[ToloNews] The Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... attacked an ANA base in the Shargha area of Khakrez district Sunday morning with a motor bomb, the governor’s office said.
According to the governor’s office, the boom-mobile was identified by security forces and the driver was killed and the bomb was destroyed before it reached its presumed target.
The Taliban also conducted attacks on a security checkpoint around 10:00 am local time.
The office said that air and ground reinforcements deployed to the area and push backed the Taliban.
The office said there are no details about casualties but will be available later.
[ToloNews] The Counter Narcotics Justice Center (CNJC) at a gathering on Sunday released its annual report about their achievements and said that more than a thousand people have been arrested on charges of drug smuggling.
The CNJC reported that 1,081 cases of narcotics smuggling have been registered in the past 12 months, and 1,287 people have been arrested, including 37 women and three foreigners.
The CNJC said that they have arrested 205 persons at Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai ...A product, and probably the sole product, of the Southern Alliance... International Airport, including 13 women attempting to smuggle contraband into India and the UAE.
"1,771 persons including foreigners and Afghans have been convicted by the primary court and 905 persons have been accused by the appeals court," said, Khalid Mauhid, a front man for the CNJC.
Meanwhile, ...back at the wine tasting, Vince was about to start on his third quart... some members of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) of Afghanistan said that the big reasons that Afghan youth want to smuggle narcotics are poverty and joblessness.
"The administration, which is responsible to fight narcotics, is involved in corruption and is a shareholder with the people who distribute the narcotics in
Kabul and also in Nangarhar The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country.. , and in every province of the country," said, Abrarullah Murad, a member of the Wolesi Jirga.
"The lack of security causes youth to be addicted, and the poverty is another reason for addiction," said Mohammad Asim, a civil society activist.
This comes as citizens' concerns are growing about the selling of narcotics in the bazaars of the country, especially in Kabul city, without any limitation.
"The government itself distributes materials; the selling and buying of narcotics are available here very much in every square of the park," said Akhtar Mohammad, Kabul resident.
"There are some people who distribute the narcotics and the government does not care about it, and the government should identify the narcotics dealers," said Abdul Khaliq, another resident of Kabul.
In the NCJC annual report from the past 12 months, Kabul with 327 cases was first in narcotic crimes, and Nangarhar--with 155 cases--was second.
[Guardian] Al-Shabaab extremists have overrun a key military base in Kenya, killing three American Department of Defense personnel and destroying several US aircraft and vehicles before they were repelled.
The attack on the Manda Bay airfield early on Sunday was the al-Qaida-linked group’s first attack against US forces in the East African country, and the military called the security situation "fluid" several hours after the assault.
Five attackers were killed, Kenyan military spokesman Paul Njuguna said.
Al-Shabaab, based in neighboring Somalia, claimed responsibility for the assault.
One US serviceman and two contractors with the US Department of Defense were killed in the fighting, according to a statement from the US Africa Command, or Africom.
Al-Shabaab claimed that there were 17 US casualties, nine Kenyan soldiers killed and seven aircraft destroyed.
Kenya is a key base for fighting al-Shabaab, one of the world’s most resilient extremist organizations. A large plume of black smoke rose above the airfield Sunday and residents said a car bomb had exploded. Lamu county commissioner Irungu Macharia told the Associated Press that five suspects were arrested and were being interrogated.
An internal Kenyan police report seen by the AP said two fixed-wing aircraft, a US Cessna and a Kenyan one, were destroyed along with two US helicopters and multiple US vehicles at the Manda Bay military airstrip. The report said explosions were heard at around 5.30am from the direction of the airstrip. The scene, now secured, indicated that al-Shabaab likely entered "to conduct targeted attacks", the report said.
The military’s Camp Simba has under 100 US personnel, according to Pentagon figures. US forces at the adjoining Manda Bay airfield train and give counterterror support to East African partners.
One U.S. service member and two Department of Defense contractors died in the attack, according to U.S. Africa Command, while another two U.S. military members were injured and are, at the time of writing, in stable condition and being evacuated.
There is no word yet on any Kenyan casualties, but the country's authorities have said that at least eight Al Shabaab terrorists died in the ensuing skirmish.

[Libya Observer] The Red Islamic Thingyfront man, Asaad Jaafar, has said that rescue teams were unable to retrieve five bodies that were rubbed out, including a woman, near Sidra Road, south of Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... Jaafar said in a press statement that the Red Islamic Thingy teams have been trying since Friday to recover the bodies from the firing line after receiving a report regarding the presence of three cars carrying the victims.
However, facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable... they were forced to retreat after being subjected to mass fire, but managed to save two of them who were rushed to the nearest hospital.

[Libya Observer] The Interior Ministry condemned the aerial bombing carried out by Haftar's militias yesterday against the Special Operations Force HQ in Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... , stressing that repeated targeting of security installations is a war crime and a flagrant violation of international laws.
It called on the Security Council, the UN mission, the international community, and its organizations to assume their responsibilities towards such crimes and document them, in order to hold the perpetrators accountable and bring them to justice.

[DW] Police in Germany have rubbed out a man who was trying to assail coppers with a knife in the west German city of Gelsenkirchen.
The man hit a patrol car with an object and sought to charge at officers standing by the vehicle "with a raised object," a police front man told news agency Agence La Belle France-Presse on Sunday.
Police also said the attacker had a knife behind his back and called out, warning him to stop his assault. However, some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go... these demands fell on deaf ears and a 23-year-old policeman shot and killed the potential assailant.
Germany's top police institution revised the county's terror level over the weekend , citing possible terror attacks following the liquidation of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani .
Many states are on high alert following a series of Islamist attacks, including a truck rampage at a Berlin Christmas market in 2016 that killed 12 people.
SIMILAR ATTACK IN LA BELLE FRANCE Meanwhile, ...back at the fist fight, Jake ducked another roundhouse, then parried with his left, then with his right, finally with his chin... in La Belle France, also on Sunday, police shot and injured a man who had rushed toward coppers wielding a knife screaming "holy shit! Allahu akbar" ("God is greatest"), local officials said.
The incident occurred in the city of Metz and the local public prosecutor's office said it was communicating with the French anti-terrorism prosecutor's department. Interior Minister Christophe Castaner confirmed an investigation had already begun.
"I praise the quick thinking of the @PoliceNat57 (Moselle police force), which intervened to apprehend the individual. A probe is underway to determine the precise motivation and circumstances behind the act," Castaner tweeted.
The prosecutor's office said the suspect had suffered gunshot wounds to the upper leg. It added that he was already on a list for links to turban groups.
The Metz incident is the second to occur in La Belle France in the space of two days after a man went on a stabbing spree in Villejuif, on the outskirts of Gay Paree, killing one person and wounding two others. He was subsequently rubbed out by officers.
Metz public prosecutor Christian Mercuri said the man in Sunday's incident was known to police both "for his radicalization and for a personality disorder.”
More than 70 planned protests were organised by CODEPINK — a women-led anti-war organisation — and Act Now to Stop War and End Racism, a US-based anti-war coalition, along with other groups.https://t.co/Oz9AiUoSwd
In Miami, nearly 50 protesters gathered. Drivers heard people shouting, “No more drone murders,” “We want peace now” and “What do we want? Peace in Iran.”
A few hundred demonstrators gathered in Times Square on Saturday, chanting “No justice, no peace, US out of the Middle East!”
Golly. Nearly 50 and a few hundred? No wonder we have to look to Pakistan’s English language to hear about something that didn’t make any of the usual American news amalgamators. Update from the Cincinnati Enquirer in the middle of the night, which I mostly stopped reading once I found Rantburg:
A group of activists gathered at Fountain Square around noon on Saturday as part of a nationwide protest to rally against a new war in the Middle East.
Over 70 cities across the country are said to be a part of the protest, spearheaded by the Answer Coalition.
...that’s Code Pink, International ANSWER, and all the rest of the usual Communist and pro-Palestinian suspects...
According to their website, the day of action scheduled for Jan. 4 was in direct response to the killing of Iranian military leader general Qasem Soleimani.
"We came out today to show that the people of Cincinnati along with the people of the United States are opposed to a war with Iran," said Ben Jarvis, a teacher with Cincinnati Public Schools. "We are very afraid that there's going to be an escalation of conflict in the Middle East."
Based on the photo at the link, there may be as many as two dozen of you, all one or another variety of patheticness.
"Both democrats and republicans have coordinated efforts and combined to wreak havoc on this entire region," said Mike Jasko of the Party for Socialism and Liberation.
...Maoist splitters...
"What we're seeing with the air strikes of the assassination of an Iranian general is that we're seeing tensions escalate, and they want another war."
Jasko and Jarvis emphasized that the group will gather again at Fountain Square next Saturday at noon for another demonstration.
Oh yay. Another opportunity for mockery and, if the weather continues as it did on Saturday, pneumonia.

“What do we want? Peace in Iran”
Stupid f---s.
The Iranian people of course want peace-- which is why they're protesting their chaotic, wicked, thieving, bloody, murderous government that's dragging them and the rest of the region into endless, pointless wars against all of Iran's neighbors.
How does this country produce so many morons? Where do they all come from?

MSM (aka Legacy Infotainment Enterprises - LIEs) will present very tight focus images of the demonstrations. Unlike completely ignoring the Right to Life marches that make these assemblies look like street corner barkers.
[HindustanTimes] Two overground workers of Hizbul Mujahideen ...Party of Holy Warriors, founded by Muhammad Ahsan Dar in September 1989. One of the Pak sock puppets waging jihad in Indian Kashmir. It was originally organized as the armed wing of Jamaat-e-Islami. In 1990, Dar declared Hizbul as the sword arm of Jamaat. Hizbul murdered many of the pro-independence intelligentsia in Kashmir. After the organization was taken over by Syed Salahuddin Dar and several other ex-Hizb leaders were assassinated between 2001 and 2003... were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir ...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. Bashir Ahmad Mengnoo of Khraipakhnoo and Wali Mohammad Sheikh of Swarbati were among 10 persons who had been identified by police for providing support to Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Mohammad Amin alias "Jehangir Saroori", who is active in the hilly district for the last three decades, a police officer said.
All the 10 persons were booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in cop shoppe Dachan on Saturday for their alleged involvement in providing logistic support, finance and transport to the most wanted terrorist, he said.
"While Mengnoo and Sheikh were arrested on Saturday itself, the search for others is going on," the officer said, adding they are being questioned. Saroori is one of the longest surviving terrorist who joined Hizbul Mujahideen in the 1990s.

These two are in addition to four others arrested last week. The one called Jehangir Saroori was a tactical commander and the longest hunted (for 28 years). A recently announced reward of Rs 30 lakh ($41K) on his head expedited the arrest within a few months.

They will likely be kept in conditions where their wounds can develop septicemia, their fractures heal wrong; and long enough that they contract pneumonia or tuberculosis. Then, when the administration is confident they shall never walk upright again, they'll be offered bail and treatment in exchange for information.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The US-led coalition battling ISIS in Iraq and Syria said on Sunday it has halted most of its operations against the holy warriors for now to focus on protecting coalition forces and bases, amid soaring tensions with Iran.
A front man stressed that the US-led coalition could still carry out some operations and would act in self-defense against the bully boys.
In a related development, Iraq’s parliament passed a resolution on Sunday that said the government has to work on ending all foreign troop presence in Iraq, and also asked the government to cancel a request for assistance from the US-led coalition.
The Iraqi parliamentary session was called after a US dronezap on Friday on a convoy at Baghdad airport that killed Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi militia leader Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes.

[IsraelTimes] Regime Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s kill five civilians in the embattled opposition stronghold of Idlib in northwest Syria, a Britannia-based war monitor says.
Jihadist-run Idlib has come under mounting bombardment in recent weeks, forcing tens of thousands to flee their homes in the region of some three million people.
"Regime air raids killed five civilians in the town of Ariha," says the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which relies on sources inside the war-torn country.
The Damascus government has repeatedly vowed to take back control of Idlib, which is run by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else ...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State... , a group dominated by Syria’s former al-Qaeda affiliate.
A ceasefire announced in late August was supposed to stem Russia-backed regime bombardment of the region after it killed around 1,000 civilians in four months.
