Local residents confirmed that hundreds of gun-toting militants in pick-ups moved into Dag-Allamo village located near Dhoobley town following the pullout of the regional army.
There has been no single bullet fired during the take-over. The fighters from Al-Shabaab lectured villagers to announce their come-back and launched an operation subsequently.

The level of impunity in #Iraq today, the open slaughter by pro-Iranian death squads while government looks away, excuses or allows, seems to have reached a new low. Just when it seems it can't get worse... https://t.co/XhoT7CdP1c
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] At least two rockets landed near Baghdad International Airport in an attack targeting US forces, Al Arabiya’s correspondent reported.
The attack late on Sunday came just days after two Iraqi military sources said two mortar bombs landed inside the Balad air force base in Iraq.
Late on Friday, unidentified gunmen attacked a parking complex near Tahrir where demonstrators had been squatting for weeks, leaving 20 protesters and four police officers dead, medics told AFP.
At least 452 people – the vast majority of them protesters – have died since mass protests gripped the country while 20,000 have been wounded.
Security forces found launchers with rockets that had not been fired properly, indicating a larger attack was planned, a military statement said.
It is the latest in an uptick in rocket attacks targeting either Iraqi bases where American troops are located or the U.S. embassy in Baghdad.
U.S. defense officials have blamed several on Iran-backed factions in Iraq.
Security sources told AFP that the wounded in Monday's attack belong to Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Service, an elite unit that was created and trained by U.S. forces. Two of them are in critical condition, the sources said.
The military complex also hosts a small group of U.S. soldiers and American diplomats.
There have been at least nine attacks against U.S. targets in Iraq in the span of six weeks. There have been no claims of responsibility and no U.S. forces have been wounded.
Security sources have linked at least one last week to Kataib Hezbollah, a powerful Shiite faction close to Tehran and blacklisted by Washington.
Iran holds vast sway in Iraq, especially among the more hardline elements of the Hashed al-Shaabi, a security force largely made up of Shiite militias.
A U.S. defense official told AFP the rocket attacks made the Hashed a bigger security threat to American troops in Iraq than the Islamic State group, the jihadist movement which the U.S. has vowed to help Baghdad wipe out.
On Friday the United States imposed sanctions on three senior Hashed figures.
U.S. officials say they are considering plans to deploy between 5,000 and 7,000 additional troops to the region to counter its arch-foe Iran.

"They should have given us this honor a long time ago," said Qais al-Khazali, one of the newly-sanctioned figures, in sardonic remarks to an audience of supporters on Sunday.

The US Treasury on Friday accused his group of "widespread forced disappearances, abductions, killings, and torture" under the Global Magnitsky act.
The measures block financial transactions with and travel to the US for people who commit human rights abuses or corruption.
"I’m embarrassed. Designate me a terrorist! A global terrorist. What is this Treasury list?" Khazali said.
"That means the money we have in US banks will go," he added sarcastically.
The US also sanctioned Iraqi businessman and political figure Khamees al-Khanjar, whom it accused of bribery.
In a statement, Khanjar’s party condemned the decision and said the accusations were "extremely funny and illogical."
"He was never an official, nor was his party part of the government," invalidating the corruption allegation, it said.
Khanjar is an influential Sunni powerbroker with close ties across Iraq’s leading political parties.

The 17-year-old girl approached a police checkpoint at the city’s Tomb of the Patriarchs holy site carrying a backpack.
According to police, as she was undergoing a routine security check, she pulled out a knife and cried out, "You deserve to die, I came here to become a martyr."
Officers drew back and pointed their firearms at her, at which point she dropped the knife, a police statement said.
When additional officers arrived to arrest the teen, she pulled out a screwdriver and again threatened to stab them.

[IsraelTimes] Syrian opposition media outlet says unidentified aircraft targeted three munitions storehouses near Iraqi border.
Unidentified aircraft bombed three Iranian-controlled weapons depots on Saturday night, killing several members of Tehran-supported militias, Syrian media reported.
Some news outlets in the country said that four fighters were killed in the strike, while others said five. The Syrian government did not immediately release an official tally. "Welp, here's another nose, that makes it....umm....five"
According to the Syrian Step News agency, the Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s occurred around 10 p.m. on Saturday, targeting three munitions storehouses in the Boulkamal region of Syria, near the Iraqi border, an area that has reportedly been hit by many Israeli raids in the past year.
The outlet cited "well-placed sources" as saying that the four people killed were guards at the storehouses who were members of militias backed by Iran.
The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said that at least five Lions of Islam were killed in the strike.
There were no immediate reports of who was responsible for the strikes, though defense analysts indicated that Israel was the likely actor.
The Israeli military as a rule does not comment on specific airstrikes in Syria, save for those that are in retaliation for attacks on Israel.
On Sunday, Defense Minister Naftali Bennett said Israel was taking action to force Iran’s military presence out of Syria.
"We are telling the Iranians: Syria will become your Vietnam," he said, referring to the disastrous American war.
"If you don’t leave, you will become entrenched and you will bleed because we will work without hesitation to remove aggressive forces from Syria," Bennett said.
The Saturday night strikes came days after reports of a similar raid in the same region.
Last Wednesday, unidentified aircraft bombed other Iranian-controlled weapons storehouses in Boulkamal, causing a massive explosion, according to Step News.
The outlet reported that the planes fired several missiles at warehouses belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps at the al-Hamdan airport, outside Deir Ezzor. Troops on the ground fired anti-aircraft weapons at the attacking planes, the news site said. There were no reports of casualties in that raid.

In September, Fox News reported that Iran was building a classified military base near Al-Bukamal, less than 200 miles from an American position, with the intention of housing thousands of troops.
According to the report, the classified Iranian project is called the Imam Ali compound and is being completed by the IRGC. At least five different, newly constructed buildings surrounded by large dirt mounds could house precision missiles, Fox said. The other 10 less fortified storehouses in the base will likely hold ammunition.
The attacks in the Al-Bukamal area have been blamed on both Israel and Saudi Arabia.
"Saudi fighter jets have been spotted along with other fighter jets that have attacked facilities and positions belonging to Iranian militias," said an unnamed source to the Independent in Arabic. The attacks targeted positions belonging to the Quds force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps in Albukamal and other areas near the Iraq-Syria border. Saudi sources later denied the report, according to the Independent.
