MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) ‐ Authorities in Oregon have arrested a man in the death of an original member of Disney’s "The Mickey Mouse Club."
Daniel James Burda, 36, was taken into custody Friday on suspicion of manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, abuse of a corpse, criminal mistreatment and identity theft in the death of Dennis Day, Oregon State Police said.
Burda was being held in Jackson County Jail, where records show he had been booked on June 26 for violating probation on a previous robbery charge.
It was unclear if he has an attorney.
Oregon State Police Captain Timothy R. Fox said Burda did jobs around the house for Day and his husband. Police declined to provide more details about Burda’s connection to Day, though neighbors say Burda had lived with the elderly couple at their home in southern Oregon.
Day, 76, was a founding member of the Mickey Mouse Club for two seasons in the 1950s.
In February, members of Day’s family spoke with "Dateline," a television news show, and said the investigation into Day’s disappearance had been poorly handled.
Day was first reported missing last July 15 by his husband, Ernie Caswell, who has memory loss.
Day’s car was later found at the Oregon coast and a missing person report said Day had uncharacteristically left his dog with a friend on the day he disappeared.

Sounds like an awkward gay-hippie-gigolo love triangle murdercide story. And this had absolutely nothing to do with mickey mouse. Although an intelligent parent could glean a life lesson from the data herein. Journalists are amazing.
[MAIL] All four suspects wanted in connection with the killing of a Georgia sheriff's deputy have now been captured.
An intense manhunt had been ongoing for much of Monday until mid-afternoon, when the Hall County Sheriff's Office announced all suspects were in custody.
Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch said one of the four - 19-year-old Hector Garcia Solis - is suspected of firing the shot that killed Deputy Nicolas Dixon late Sunday night in Gainesville.
Hall County Sheriff Gerald Crouch said the 28 year-old Dixon was a married father of two young children and had been with the department for three years.
He was mortally wounded at around 11pm Sunday night when a bullet pierced his body below his tactical vest as he exchanged fire with the suspects on Sunday night.
Patrol deputies spotted the suspects driving a stolen car, believed to have been used in several car break-ins and house burglaries over the weekend, and gave chase.

[NYPOST] A cringeworthy copycat inspired by a viral video showing a teen licking a tub of ice cream before putting it back on the shelf has been arrested for a similar stunt, Louisiana police said.
Lenise Lloyd Martin III, 36, was arrested by Assumption Gay Pareeh sheriff’s deputies on Saturday after being filmed opening a carton of Blue Bell ice cream from a freezer, licking it, poking his finger into the frozen treat and putting it back on a shelf, WAFB reports.
A 13-second clip shows a smiling Martin playfully looking around after taking his first unauthorized taste as a child walks behind him and appears to turn around. Martin then sneaks a second lick after jabbing his finger into the ice cream and looking into the camera before placing it back into a freezer, video shows.
"We discourage anyone from copying this atrocious act," a sheriff’s office front man told the station. "It is illegal. It’s a health risk to others. We will pursue anyone we see do this. You will be charged."
Martin was arrested after deputies found evidence that he posted video of his alleged unsanitary actions at a grocery store in Belle Rose, west of New Orleans, on Facebook, public information officer Lonny Cavalier told CNN.
Martin later showed detectives a receipt for the ice cream, suggesting that he ultimately paid for his contaminated confection ‐ but Cavalier said the purchase still did not clear him of wrongdoing.

Maybe its already been said; haven't seen it so apologies in advance, but I suspect the real reason the original ice cream kicker, she of minor age status was solely due to some testicular atrophy on the part of law enforcement who didn't want a Ferguson, V 2.0 to erupt.

[IsraelTimes] Marcelle Haroun, mother of the current president of Cairo’s Jewish community, has died at the age of 93.
Her death, announced on Saturday, leaves five Jews known to be living in Cairo, Watani International reports. The five remaining are Haroun’s daughter Magda and four granddaughters. The AFP news service reported in March 2017 that there were also 12 Jews living in the coastal city of Alexandria.
Haroun was married to lawyer and politician Shehata Haroun, known as a Jewish anti-Zionist who was a member of the Communist Party of Egypt, according to the report. Her daughter told Tablet in 2013 that Marcelle was her father’s "comrade."
Egypt was home to some 80,000 Jews when Israel was founded in 1948. Thousands began leaving in the ensuing years, and many more in two waves, in 1956 and 1967. The Harouns remained, considering themselves Egyptian first, according to Watani.
"The Jewish Community in Cairo (JCC) has regretfully lost Marcelle Haroun, one of its pillars who will be sorely missed," read the statement announcing her death.

back in the days of King Fuad I and Farouk I, Jews were in high government positions, especially in the Finance Dept (to reduce corruption)
first pogroms in Egypt were in 1945
that is, before Israel was founded
King Farouk was forced to abdicate in 1952 and by 1954 Nasser was in control.

[MSN] The 14 sailors who died during a fire last week on a nuclear-powered Russian military submarine prevented a "planetary catastrophe," a top naval officer said at their funeral, according to media reports.
Captain Sergei Pavlov, an aide to the commander of Russia’s navy, praised the heroism of the men, who died as they battled to stop the fire from spreading in the submersible.
"With their lives, they saved the lives of their colleagues, saved the vessel and prevented a planetary catastrophe," he said at the funeral Sunday attended by the navy chief according to the Fontanka news service.
Kremlin front man Dmitry Peskov said he wasn’t aware of the official’s comments but said there was no indication the incident posed a broader threat. "As for the reactor, there are no problems with that," he said on a conference call.
Russia broke three days of secrecy July 4 and confirmed that the stricken underwater research vessel was nuclear-powered. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told President Vladimir Putin ...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances... in a meeting shown on state TV that the nuclear reactor on board the vessel had been completely sealed off.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. State Department has approved the possible sale to Taiwan of M1A2T Abrams tanks, Stinger missiles and related equipment at an estimated value of $2.2 billion, the Pentagon said on Monday, despite Chinese criticism of the deal.
China’s Foreign Ministry said last month when the possible sale was first reported that it was seriously concerned about U.S. arms sales to self-ruled Taiwan, and it urged the United States to halt the sales to avoid harming bilateral ties.
The sale of the weapons requested by Taiwan, including 108 General Dynamics Corp (GD.N) M1A2T Abrams tanks and 250 Stinger missiles, would not alter the basic military balance in the region, the Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a statement.
DSCA notified Congress on Monday of the possible arms sale, which it said could also include mounted machine guns, ammunition, Hercules armored vehicles for recovering inoperative tanks, heavy equipment transporters and related support.

PAMPLONA, Spain (AP) ‐ The desire to have a selfie as a souvenir from running with the bulls in Spain turned into a near-death experience an American lawyer says he’ll never forget.
A charging bull ran over and gored San Francisco resident Jaime Alvarez in the neck during the first run of this year’s San Fermin festival in Pamplona, an event immortalized by writer Ernest Hemingway nearly a century ago.
"The joy and the excitement of being in the bullring quickly turned into a scare, into real fear for my life," Alvarez, 46, said Monday at a regional hospital where he was recovering from surgery.
Doctors told Alvarez the bull’s horn went deep into his neck and fractured part of a cheekbone. That it didn’t hit the jugular vein or major arteries was described to the injured patient as "beyond miraculous."
Alvarez, who works as a public defender in Santa Clara County, California, said he realized how severely he’d been hurt during his encounter with the bull Sunday morning when he touched his neck and his hand came away covered with blood.
[NakedSecurity] The UK Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) has provocatively shortlisted Mozilla for the sort of award that, on the face of it at least, no tech company should be keen to win ‐ '2019's Internet Villain'.
Mozilla's claim to infamy? From ISPA's point of view, it's Firefox's imminent inclusion of DNS over HTTPS (DoH) ‐ a technology many experts endorse as the biggest jump for internet privacy since the expansion of HTTPS itself.
The problem, according to the ISPA press release, is that the arrival of this technology in the Firefox browser used by millions will make it possible to:
Bypass UK filtering obligations and parental controls, undermining internet safety standards in the UK.
The point of DoH (and the related DNS over TLS, or DoT) is to encrypt DNS requests, which makes it impossible, or at least very difficult, for entities such as ISPs or governments to monitor which websites people are visiting. And because the DNS requests are sent inside encrypted HTTPS requests they're also indistinguishable from other web traffic, so they can't be blocked without blocking all web traffic.
To privacy enthusiasts, this is good because neither ISPs nor governments have any business knowing which domains users happen to frequent.
For ISPs, by contrast, DoH hands them several headaches, including how to fulfil their legal obligation in the UK to store a year's worth of each subscriber's internet visits in case the government wants to study them later for evidence of criminal activity.
Years in the making, this is a collision foretold. One side (Mozilla and Cloudflare, the latter providing the DoH resolution that supports the whole endeavor) thinks that internet privacy is an immutable principle that demands a technical solution, the other (governments, police and at least one anti-child abuse campaign group) think that privacy carries risks that must always be qualified through intervention. Technical details follow at link.
While I can understand them wanting to filer out illegal sites, with the EU it is always always always about control.
They want to know if you are visiting sites that they may not agree with. Can't have that. Might get some Brexit ideas or something.
I fall on the make it difficult for the government to see what I am doing. Not because I am doing illegal stuff, but because it is none of their goddamn business.
[Market Watch] Helping to make America great again has become this retired Home Depot co-founder’s own DIY project.
Billionaire Bernie Marcus recently made headlines by sharing that he plans to give 80% to 90% of his wealth (estimated at $4.53 billion by Bloomberg, or $5.8 billion by Forbes) to charity when he dies. But the former Home Depot HD, +0.69% chairman also revealed in the same Atlanta Journal-Constitution interview that he will be donating to Donald Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign, as well. Indeed, he donated $7 million to help elect Trump in 2016, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.
Related: Home Depot co-founder will give 90% of his reported $4.5 billion fortune to charity
And now some enraged customers on social media say they are boycotting the home-improvement chain’s stores, which does about $108 billion in annual sales. They claim to be cutting up their Home Depot cards, and say they plan to shop at competitors like Lowe’s LOW, +0.42% and Menards, under the hashtag #BoycottHomeDepot. They have also responded to unrelated posts on Home Depot’s official Twitter TWTR, +0.55% account with comments like "just say no to Home Depot" and "I will rot in the bowels of hell before I give one penny to @HomeDepot again."

[DAWN] A Sadiqabad-based taxi driver, who recently underwent treatment for health complications caused by obesity, passed away on Monday after he was left unattended due to commotion in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital in Lahore.
Noorul Hassan, weighing 330 kg, had made national headlines last month when he was air lifted on a Pakistain Army helicopter to Lahore for treatment on special directives from Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
According to 55-year-old Noor's doctor, Dr Maazul Hassan, a top laparoscopic surgeon in Lahore, a female patient had passed away at the Shalamar Hospital today after which her relatives reached the hospital and expressed concern about her death.
In the chaos that ensued, Noor and a second patient died "due to the unavailability of staff", Dr Maaz said while speaking to DawnNewsTV. He added that the relatives of the female patient had not intended to cause the deaths but the situation worsened due to the violence.
Additional medical superintendents (AMS) Dr Rizwan and Dr Nayar said that relatives of the female patient had broken windows, switched ventilators off and hit doctors. They added that nurses had left the ICU during the commotion.
A spokesperson for the hospital said that they were investigating the incident and needed to look at CCTV footage. The spokesperson said that chaos had broken out in the hospital during which everyone was trying to save themselves.
Dr Maaz said that he was not present in the hospital during the episode but was told that "a lot of damage" had been caused.
He explained that while the chaos was taking place, Noor was feeling unwell and was left unattended for nearly an hour.
"When they (hospital staff) noted this, they attempted to resuscitate him but were unable to successfully to do so," Dr Maaz said.
"You can't directly blame anyone but staff should have been present," he said.

2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots.... Healthcare Commission confirmed the deaths while announcing that a three-member committee had been formed that had started investigations.
Dr Maaz said that just yesterday, Noor's family had shared the positive progress his health had made. He said that the patient had been kept on elective ventilation after he experienced breathing problems so that he could be discharged after six or seven days.
He said that Noor's death had occurred at 8:15am.
Noor's son said that doctors were not responsible for his father's death. He said that Noor was to be removed from the ventilator today. His wife added that doctors had said that her husband had suffered a heart attack.
Noor ‐ a resident of Mohallah Islampura in Sadiqabad ‐ had appealed to Gen Bajwa on social media to take notice of his predicament and assist him in seeking treatment.
Sadiqabad Assistant Commissioner Kashif Dogar had told Dawn that Noor could not travel in an ambulance by road due to his weight and that he was a poor taxi driver who resided in a small house.
During the process of shifting him, Rescue 1122 personnel had broken the main door and wall of Hassan's house to bring him out. Dogar said the rescue team had shifted Hassan onto a mini truck and transported him to a football ground in Sadiqabad where a helipad was fashioned for the air ambulance's landing.

[IsraelTimes] A high school in Boca Raton, Florida, removed a principal who told a parent that he needed to remain neutral on whether or not the Holocaust occurred.
The Palm Beach County School District said in a statement Monday that it was aware of remarks made by William Latson in 2018 and had instructed him to expand Holocaust curriculum at Spanish River Community High School and spend time at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
"Despite these efforts, his leadership has become a major distraction for the school community. It is, therefore, in the best interest of students and the larger school community to reassign Mr. Latson to a District position," the school district said in a statement on Monday.
In an email exchange a year ago, in response to a parent who asked how the Holocaust is being taught at the public school, Latson responded that "I can’t say the Holocaust is a factual, historical event because I am not in the position to do so as a school district employee."
Latson’s comments drew wide media coverage after The Palm Beach Post reported on them on Friday.
The school, which has about 2,500 students, is said to have one of the largest Jewish student populations in the county, according to the report.
Latson, who had his job since 2011, apologized in a statement to the Post, saying his email "did not accurately reflect my professional and personal commitment to educating all students about the atrocities of the Holocaust."
I actually think William Latson's attitude is the correct one as not deciding the authoritativeness of events and leaving it up to pupils to learn how to decide.

Alan C is spot on. I recently watched "D-Day to Berlin", a documentary from personal home movies made by George Stevens as his Army photographic unit followed the troops across Europe. He used his personal camera and color 16 mm Kodachrome, so you see it as it really was. They were present at the liberation of a concentration camp. Thinking about the images now makes me choke up. Every high schooler should have to watch it. Highly recommended.
