Reinforcements Sent To Badghis As Clashes Enter Day 2
[ToloNews] The Ministry of Defense confirmed in a statement that reinforcements headed to the volatile Bala Murghab district in Badghis from the neighboring Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
province in the west of Afghanistan early on Friday morning.

The ministry said that the security forces have advanced in some parts of the district.

Talibs captured key parts of the Bala Murghab district late on Thursday night, including the municipality building and the main market of the district, sources acknowledged, adding that the Army base and the police headquarters remained under siege throughout the night.

Almost 500 troops are fighting an unknown number of Talibs in the district, said Abdul Aziz Beg, Head of Badghis Provincial Council.

Latest figures by local officials show that at least 36 members of the Afghan forces were killed in the festivities.

Other sources confirmed on Friday that Arclight airstrikes have started targeting Talibs in the district.

Jamshed Shahabi, a front man for Badghis governor, said the casualties of the Afghan forces are not as much high as reported.

He said that more than 30 Talibs have been killed in the festivities.

Last time, the district came under Taliban

attack early in March and was under siege for more than two weeks, leaving more than two dozens of security forces dead and almost 28 of them gone missing.

This comes as the conflicts have intensified in different parts of the country with the arrival of the spring season ‐ which is deemed as a usual fighting season for gunnies fighting the Afghan government forces.

Egypt kills hundreds of suspected militants in disputed gun battles
Who to believe? I haven’t a clue — I just share here what I find.
[Ynet] Mohammed Abu Amer, a landscape gardener, was working in downtown Cairo when national security agents took him away on Feb. 6, 2018, his family said.

For almost six months Amer's family waited for news of the 37-year-old father of two. Their messages to the Public Prosecutor and the Interior Ministry, which oversees the police and the national security agency, went unanswered.

Then on July 31, the ministry announced on its Facebook page that Amer was among five forces of Evil killed in a shootout earlier that day when police approached their hideout 40 km north of Cairo. Amer was wanted for the murder of a national security agent, the statement said.

It's a version of events his family doesn't buy. Amer was no terrorist and he died in the custody of the state, not in a shootout, his relatives insist. "I know that what they are saying is untrue," said a relative. "He was with them for six months."

Serraj announces state of alert in response to Hafter’s LNA provocation
[Libya Herald] Faiez Serraj, head of the Presidency Council and Government of National Accord, in his role as Supreme Commander of the Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
-based Libyan National Army, announced a state of alert yesterday in response to the encroaching Libyan National Army (LNA) forces and threats to enter Tripoli militarily.

Serraj, never mentions Hafter nor the LNA by name in his statement, but the message is clearly directed at them. He condemned the ’’provocative’’ and ’’escalating’’ language and statements made by Hafter and his LNA ’’to purge the western region’’ and to ’’liberate’’ Tripoli which he said did not help accord or reconciliation.

He said such language destroys Libyans’ hope for stability and, in a veiled threat, ’’underestimates’’ all other parties.

Serraj said that this escalation comes a few days before the UN-brokered National Conference (@multaqa.libya) set to be held in Ghadames from 14 to 16 April. He added that Libyans view the conference with a glimmer of hope and as an exit out of Libya’s current crisis, an opportunity to unify the country’s split institutions and as the means to elections. However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
the LNA’s inflammatory and escalating statements will undermine all of this, Serraj added.

Serraj warned that he had in the past chosen to exercise restraint to such intended crisis-precipitating actions, but that in the face of such persistence to follow this aggressive policy that he thought had been long bypassed, he has ordered and announced a state of alert to all military and security forces to prepare to respond and deter any threats aimed at destabilizing security in any area of the country. This destabilizing threat could be terror or criminal organizations, rogue groups outside the law, mercenaries, or anyone who threatens any Libyan city.

In conclusion, Serraj repeated the oft quoted mantra that there is ’’no military solution’’ to the Libyan crisis. He added that ’’war only brings destruction to the country and suffering to the people’’, urging Hafter and the LNA to ’’stop the language of threats and menace and to take on the language of reason and wisdom’’.

It will be recalled that the Serraj state of alert announcement comes after a clear and deliberate ratcheting up by the Hafter LNA and their regional allies spanning from Sabrata to Gharian. In fact, critics and analysts would say that Hafter has been on a military campaign for months if not years. His manoeuvres in the south of Libya in February and March are seen as preparations for a military ’’liberation’’ of Tripoli ‐ an aim Hafter has never made a secret of.

The straw that broke the camel’s back was yesterday’s announcement by the LNA’s General Command issuing orders to move to the western region which the announcement said was ’’controlled by outlaw groups and militias’’. The announcement was accompanied by footage claiming to show heavily armed forces crossing the Brega area and the central Oil Crescent area and allegedly moving towards the west of the country.

The statement said that the ’’operation aims to cleanse the country, which remains with terrorist and criminal group found in its hideouts in the western region’’ It added that the Libyan armed forces are aware of the safety of citizens and public property in the country.

On the other hand, Tripoli’s and the Western Region Forces have not sat idle. On 31 March the Tripoli Protection Force (TPF), a coalition of Tripoli’s main militias aligned to the Serraj Presidency Council, had announced on 31 March the unification of the Tripoli and Western Region Forces. Video footage of its forces allegedly heading towards the south of Tripoli have also been circulating.

The Faiez Serraj Ministry of Interior (MoI) had also announced the readiness of its forces to protect the areas under its control. Today it also announced a state of alert and warned its employees not to take orders from any forces outside the authority of the Presidency Council.

Hafter advance towards Tripoli repulsed as ‘Wadi Doum 2’ operation launched by Western Region Forces
[Libya Herald] The Khalifa Hafter Libyan National Army (LNA) and its regional allies seemed to have ben repulsed overnight in their thrust towards Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
. The newly-formed Western Region coalition of anti-Hafter forces launched the ’’Wadi (Ouadi) Doum 2’’ operation to counter Hafter’s attack on Tripoli.

Wadi Doum is a military airstrip build by Qadaffy in northern Chad where Hafter was defeated and captured by Chadian government forces fighting for the Qadaffy regime in 1986. Ironically, Hafter’s defeat and capture in 1987 was facilitated by French support for the Chad government at the time.

Libya's Misrata-based forces move to secure Tripoli and thwart Haftar's attack
[Libya Observer] The military council, armed brigades, and revolutionaries of Misrata city announced Thursday that they are heading to Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
to stop the attacks and advances of Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
's forces in the western region.

After a meeting called by the commander of the central military zone Mohammed al-Haddad, the Misrata military factions urged the Head of the Presidential Council Fayez al-Sirraj to give orders to all western region's forces to fight the advances of "rebellious Haftar" off the region.

"Misrata has opposed and fought the tyrant Muammar Qadaffy
...who single-handedly turned a moderately prosperous kingdom into a dictator's fantasyland and was then murdered by his indignant subjects 42 years later...
and has always been keen on unity and accord among Libyans, thus it will never stand idly by the movements and escalation led by Haftar in western Libya in order to impose himself a ruler on all Libyans." The statement says.

The Misrata military council, brigades and revolutionaries called on UN envoy Ghassan Salame to issue a statement clarifying the UNSMIL's stance regarding the current military escalation in western Libya.

Meanwhile,

the big shot at the Anti-Terrorism Force of the Presidential Council, Mukhtar al-Jahawi, said a massive force is on its way to Tripoli and will be securing it abasing threats, adding that it has announced high alert after Haftar's advances toward Tripoli.

Meanwhile,

social media pages circulated an order by al-Sirraj for announcing the state high alert and general mobilization in the country and ordering the Air Force to carry out Arclight airstrikes against outlaw gangs.

Tripoli-based government condemns Haftar's forces threats, mobilizes troops to face them
[Libya Observer] The Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
-based Presidential Council (PC) has issued a statement denouncing the orders of east-based self-styled army to advance on the western region and the capital, saying it is very saddened by such an escalation that deprives Libyans of their rights to security and peace.

The PC's statement said "the provocative announcements of certain parties ordering their forces to liberate the capital" is not the language needed at this time and won't help Libyans build their country.

The PC said it had ordered all forces - military, police and security personnel - to be mobilized and on high alert to thwart any attacks by terrorist, criminal, outlaw, or mercenary groups in any area across Libya.

"This is to stand tough against the insistence on adopting such a violent approach by those parties who made the provocative announcements." The PC said, referring to Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. 's forces, without naming them.

It added that this escalation comes days before the holding of the Libyan National Conference in Ghadames city, which would give Libyans hope to build their future through democratic elections.

"There can be no military solution to the crisis as war brings only destruction, so all should stop using the rhetoric of escalation and replace it with wisdom." The PC remarked.

This comes hours after the military media office of the self-styled army in eastern Libya, which is under the command of Khalifa Haftar, had announced that their forces started advancing on western Libyan cities and districts in order to "purge the remaining terrorist groups in the region."

3 jailed for attack on German mosque
[AA.TR] A German court on Friday jugged

The mosque of Ottoman Turkish-Moslem association IGMG in Ulm was attacked in March 2018 by followers of the PYD/PKK terrorist group to protest The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

’s counter-terrorism operation in northwestern Syria.

The district court in Ulm handed down jail terms -- ranging from three to five-and-half years -- to attackers for the assault that caused no casualties but minor damage to the mosque.

Two other suspects received suspended prison sentences between six months and one-and-half years.

The PYD/PKK group and far-left organizations grabbed credit for dozens of attacks last year which targeted Ottoman Turkish mosques, associations and shops in various cities, including Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Aachen.

The PKK has been banned in Germany since 1993, but it remains active, with nearly 14,000 followers in the country.

Ankara has long criticized German authorities for not taking serious measures against the PKK and its Syrian affiliates -- PYD and YPG -- which continue to use Germany as a platform for their fund-raising, recruitment and propaganda activities.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Over 10,000 Palestinians protest at Gaza border, 70 injured
[IsraelTimes] One person at death's door; ahead of the rallies organizers and armed factions had reportedly called to avoid violence, amid ceasefire talks.

Over 10,000 Paleostinians participated in weekly protests and riots along the Gazoo Strip’s border with Israel Friday afternoon.

Despite reported calls by organizers and armed factions to avoid violence, as Israel and Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, work to achieve a long-term truce, festivities were reported. Some protesters hurled rocks and bombs at Israeli troops, who responded with less-lethal measures. The Hamas-run health ministry in Gazoo said 70 people had been injured, one of them critically.

By nightfall the protesters had disbanded. A Paleostinian who crossed the border was detained by Israeli troops.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh
...became Prime Minister after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank...
earlier Friday said talks were "advancing in a positive direction."

On Thursday a top March of Return organizer told the Kan public broadcaster that protesters have been instructed not to launch incendiary balloons toward Israel during the rallies, and that the nighttime "confusion units" have been called off.

According to the organizer, who was not identified, Gazoo factions had committed to a nonviolent protest, and Israel had agreed not to use live fire to disperse the border demonstrations.

There was no confirmation from Israeli officials.
The Jerusalem Post adds:
Local reports put the number of demonstrators as 10,000 Paleostinians in five main spots along the fence with Israel.

Last week Israel expanded the allowed fishing zone for Gazooks to a range of between 22 km. to 28 km.

"The implementation of the move is conditional on the fishermen in Gazoo honoring the agreements. It will not be possible to deviate from the ranges that were agreed upon, and any deviation will be handled accordingly," COGAT said.

Philippines: 1 hostage escapes, another drowns and 3rd shot by Abu Sayyaf
MANILA, Philippines (AP) ‐ An Indonesian hostage held by Muslim militants in the southern Philippines swam his way to freedom but another drowned while a Malaysian was shot in the back while escaping, officials said Saturday.

The two Indonesians and the Malaysian separately escaped while Philippine marines were attempting to rescue them on Simusa island in southern Sulu province in the last two days, regional military spokesman Lt. Col. Gerry Besana said.

The dramatic escapes leave at least three more hostages in the custody of the Abu Sayyaf, which is blacklisted by the United States and the Philippines as a terrorist organization due to its brutal history of bombings, ransom kidnappings, extortion and beheadings. The remaining captives include a Dutch bird watcher, Elwold Horn, who was kidnapped by the militants in 2012, and two Filipinos.

One of the Indonesians, Heri Ardiansyah, was plucked from the waters by marines on board a gunboat while they recovered the body of his companion, Hariadin, who drowned. The marines gunned down three Abu Sayyaf captors who were trying to chase the two Indonesians at sea, military officials said.

Myanmar targets civilians with helicopters, 7 dead: UN
[AA.TR] Myanmar military has targeted civilians in Rakhine state, killing seven of them and injuring 18 others, a UN official said on Friday.

In a media briefing, Ravina Shamdasani, spokeswoman for the UN Human Rights Office, said: "On the evening of 3 April, two military helicopters flew over Hpon Nyo Leik village tract in south Buthidaung township and fired on civilians tending cows and paddy fields, killing at least seven civilians and injuring 18 others".

Shamdasani said that there are report that the fighting has intensified in Buthidaung, Rathedaung, Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, and Sittwe townships in Rakhine State in recent weeks, leading to the displacement of over 20,000 civilians.

"We are deeply disturbed by the intensification of the conflict in Rakhine State in recent weeks, and condemn what appear to be indiscriminate attacks and attacks directed at civilians by the Myanmar military and armed fighters," she added.

According to the reports, the spokeswoman said, some 4,000 Rohingya were displaced from March 25-30 from the villages along the road connecting Buthidaung and Rathedaung towns.

The spokeswoman said the Myanmar military’s attack against its own civilians "may constitute war crimes".

"The consequences of impunity will continue to be deadly," she added.

PERSECUTED PEOPLE
The Rohingya, described by the UN as the world's most persecuted people, have faced heightened fears of attack since dozens were killed in communal violence in 2012.

According to Amnesia Amnesty International, more than 750,000 Rohingya refugees, mostly women and kiddies, have fled Myanmar and crossed into Bangladesh after Myanmar forces launched a crackdown on the minority Moslem community in August 2017.

Since Aug. 25, 2017, nearly 24,000 Rohingya Moslems have been killed by Myanmar’s state forces, according to a report by the Ontario International Development Agency (OIDA).

More than 34,000 Rohingya were also thrown into fires, while over 114,000 others were beaten, said the report, titled "Forced Migration of Rohingya: The Untold Experience".

Italian Man Held Hostage In Syria Since 2016 Freed
[Jpost] An Italian man held hostage in Syria since April 2016 has been sprung and is returning home, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said on Friday.

Sergio Zanotti, a businessman from Brescia, was seized in southern The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
near the Syrian border three years ago, his family said.

Very little news was ever released about his abduction, with the government in Rome eager to maintain radio silence as they sought to gain his release.

"At the end of a complex and delicate intelligence, investigative and diplomatic operation... we have today managed to obtain the release of Sergio Zanotti," Conte's office said in a statement.

"Our compatriot appears in a good general condition and in a few hours he will return to Italia, to Rome," it added, giving no details of who had held him or how he was freed. His abductors posted at least two videos of Zanotti during his captivity. In one he was shown kneeling between two masked button men and looking straight at the camera. Wearing a blue t-shirt and sporting a long, grey beard, he appealed to the government in Rome to intervene and prevent his execution.

Jihadist group kills several Syrian soldiers in northern Hama
[ALMASDARNEWS] A jihadist group carried out a powerful attack against a Syrian Arab Army (SAA) unit that was deployed at the northern Hama front on Thursday.

Led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
, the jihadist fighters fired an anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) on Thursday towards a Tiger Forces unit that was positioned at the small town of al-Hawa in northern Hama.

According to a military report, the jihadist rebels managed to score a direct hit on the Syrian Army troops, resulting in the death of at least four soldiers, including a field commander from the Tiger Forces.

In response to this attack, the Syrian military launched a big assault across southern Idlib and northern Hama, targeting many areas under the control of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham.

The tit-for-tat attacks would continue throughout the day, with Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham/Jaish al-Izza striking the government-held towns of Mhardeh and al-Suqaylabiyeh, and the Syrian military targeting several towns under the control of the bully boys.

Opposition activists accused the Syrian military of killing between 18-25 people during the attack, while pro-government activists claimed HTS and Jaish al-Izza killed as many as 7 people in al-Suqaylabiyeh and Mhardeh.

Since the start of April, the violence in the Hama and Idlib governorates has increased dramatically in comparison to March, as both sides blame one another for starting the hostilities around the demilitarized zone.

Syrian Army launches new ground attack to advance in west Aleppo
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a new ground assault in the western part of Aleppo this evening, a military source in the picturesque provincial capital told al-Masdar.

According to the military source, the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Division and Elite Republican Guard stormed the jihadist positions at the eastern axis of the Aleppo Research Center.

The military source said the Syrian Arab Army is attempting to advance to the Aleppo Research Center in a bit to retake the entire picturesque provincial capital from the bully boy groups.

At the same time, a Syrian Army unit has unleashed a heavy attack on the western outskirts of Aleppo, hitting several areas under the control of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
.

The source in Aleppo said the Syrian military hit several bully boy targets in the towns of Khan al-Assal, Kafr Hamra, and Ma’arat Aghrek.

Tonight’s assault by the Syrian Arab Army marks the first time in nearly a year that they have launched a ground assault to advance their positions in the Aleppo Governorate.

It is still not clear at this time if tonight’s attack is just an attempt to test the bully boy defenses or if they are willing to capture the Aleppo Research Center
