Death toll hits 58 after Djbouti migrant boat tragedy
[PULSE.NG] The number of people who died when two migrant boats foundered after setting sail from Djibouti to Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
has risen to 58, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Friday.

The overloaded boats went down on Tuesday about half an hour after setting sail from Djibouti's northeastern coastline.

Speaking to AFP, Lalini Veerassamy, IOM's chief of mission in the tiny Horn of Africa nation, said the number of people known to have died in the tragedy had risen to 58, up from 52 a day earlier.

It was the latest incident to occur on the risky sea crossing, often taken by African migrants colonists seeking to work in the Middle East.

Only around 15 people were pulled to safety, most of them Æthiopians.

It was not immediately clear how many people were affected but the IOM said it believed one of the two boats was carrying up to 130 people. Most of those on board were believed to be Æthiopians.

On Wednesday, an AFP journalist saw bodies in the water and others strewn across the beach at Obock, a port town down the coast from Godaria from where the two boats had set sail.

The Bab el-Mandeb strait which separates Djibouti from Yemen is unusual in that it sees migrants colonists and refugees passing in both directions -- boatloads of Yemenis fleeing to Africa to escape war, while others head in the opposite direction carrying African migrants colonists to the Arabian Peninsula in search of better opportunities.

Militia local financing sources revealed
[Libya Herald] One group of Libyan militias has spilled the beans on how another group of militias was able to finance itself.

The coalition of Tripoli’s main militias, the Tripoli Protection Force (TPF), has revealed that it has discovered how its recent adversary, the Tarhuna-based 7th Infantry Kani Brigade, has been financing itself.

Whilst the TPF has billed this as a revelation, in all truth there is nothing new in this news to most Libyans. However, coming from another group of militias, the confirmation of facts on the ground seems even more validatory.

Responding to its own questions posed in its 17 January statement as to how the Tarhuna-based brigade was funding its military campaigns, the TPF yesterday listed the number of operations and their revenues that the Tarhuna-based brigade had allegedly taken control of.

These were the:
  1. Al-Nabaa drinking water factory

  2. Sidi Sayah – Iron & Steel factory

  3. Sug il Ahad vegetable market

  4. The Rubbish dump

  5. General Rubbish Collecting companies operating in all of the Nawahi Arba areas

  6. 12 sand pitts/quarries

  7. 41 pebble/aggregate quarries

  8. Man-made River Investment Projects

  9. A total of seven private medical clinics

  10. Revenues from traffic violation fines paid instantly in cash charging LD 100 to trucks and LD 40 to small cars

  11. All the banks located in the Nawahi al-Arba areas

  12. All the catering and cleaning companies serving all public entities such as hospitals etc

  13. Taking over many public and foreign companies in the Nawahi Arba area which were completely robbed and looted of all their contents.

  14. The Twesha and Heera state poultry and egg-production projects
The TPF said that this is a preliminary list of the domestic sources of funding for the Tarhuna-based militias.

It said that it had lodged all this documented evidence with local police stations so that it could be used as official evidence and proof.

However, with regards to what the TPF said was “external finance “, it said that this file of evidence was lodged with the General Intelligence Service.

The TPF claimed that in view of it discovering the involvement of politicians, government officials and military personnel with major military ranks in this domestic financing of the Tarhuna-based militias, they called on the Serraj-led Presidency Council and Government of National Accord to assume their responsibilities in protecting the public and their properties from the Tarhuna-based “gangs”.

However, while the TPF coalition of Tripoli militias were only too keen to wash the dirty linen of the Tarhuna-based militias in public, many Libyans would have cried out something on the lines of pot calling the kettle black.

Whilst the Tarhuna-based militias may be accused of leaching off the various local businesses in the region they control, the Tripoli militias are accused of operating on a totally different scale.

Indeed, one of the grievances cited by the Tarhuna-based militias as a motivation for attacking Tripoli was the perception that the TPF had access to hard currency letters of credit from the Tripoli Central Bank of Libya (CBL).

There are accusations and the perception that some of the leading commanders of some of the Tripoli-based militias are in conspiracy with some bank managers, including at the CBL, to access hard currency at the preferential rate of LD 1.4 per dollar.

60 people reportedly killed from a fresh attack by Boko Haram
[PULSE.NG] At least 60 people have been killed following a recent attack by Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
in the mildly populated town of Rann located in Borno State, Nigeria.

The Nigerian army reportedly abandoned their duties on Monday, January 28, 2019, allowing the Death Eaters to freely charge at defenceless civilians who were already displaced from former raids.

Osai Ojigho is the director for Amnesia Amnesty International in Nigeria. He told The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

four days after the attack in Rann that the deaths recorded may be considered as war crimes. The humanitarian deduced that there is an issue of incompetence to deal with in the army who he confirmed to have left their base a day before the onslaught.

Following a previous invasion by Boko Haram in the town, a joint watch comprising of soldiers from the Nigerian army and counterparts in Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
were stationed there to offer protection. Nigerian troopers reportedly left their posts after their neighbouring partners went back home.

"This attack on civilians who have already been displaced by the bloody conflict may amount to possible war crimes, and those responsible must be brought to justice.

"Witnesses told us that Nigerian soldiers abandoned their posts the day before the attack, demonstrating the authorities' utter failure to protect civilians," The New York Times gathered.

500 hunters to support Nigerian troops in fighting Boko Haram

Mr. Kashim Shettima is the governor of Borno State. On Wednesday, January 30, 2019, he oversaw an oath-swearing ceremony attended by 500 hunters who have pledged to support the Nigerian army in order to defeat Boko Haram.

RAB arrests suspected militants planning to kill newspaper editor
[Dhaka Tribune] Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has enjugged
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
four suspected members of the banned Lion of Islam outfit Ansar al-Islam also known as Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), accused of planning to kill a daily newspaper editor.

RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan disclosed the information at a press briefing at RAB’s Media Centre, in Karwan Bazar, around 11:30am on Friday.

The RAB official also said: "The suspects were planning to kill an editor of a national daily newspaper, which published a criticism of a hadith - record of the traditions or sayings of Prophet Muhammad (PTUI!) on marriage."

They were arrested in Uttara area around 2am on Friday.

The RAB official also mentioned arresting another ABT member ‐ Abdus Sobhan alias Habib, 28 ‐ in Ashulia area on January 28.

Based on information provided by Sobhan, RAB 1 conducted a drive in Uttara and arrested the four.

The arrestees are Shahriar Nafis Ammar Hossain, 20, Md Rasel alias Sajedul Islam Gifary, 24, Rabiul Islam alias Nurul Islam, 24, and Abdul Malek, 31.

The RAB media director said the suspects were accused of monitoring secular activists on social media platforms, where they were posing as an online activist ‐ all of themusing a single profile.

They also had planned to kill those who criticized Islam on social media.

Mufti Mahmud said they have foiled the ABT’s mission of killing those who posted negative statements about Islam.

’THEY ARE TRYING TO REVIVE THE ORGANIZATION’
Mufti Mahmud said after initial interrogation, RAB learnt that the suspects were trying, secretly, to revive the organization.

Their main objective was to free the organization’s chief, Jasimuddin Rahmani, from jail. They even had plans to break Jasim out of jail if the failed to get him released through legal means.

"The RAB officials recovered some krazed killer books, mobile phones and sharp weapons from the suspects’ possession at the time of the arrest. During the initial questioning, they confessed to being active members of ABT," said this RAB official.

He said the groups were mainly monitoring online activists.

"One of the Lion of Islams, Shahriar, joined a group with atheist members, using a fake name. The holy warriors were planning to kill one of the members [of the atheists’ group], as decided by the Lion of Islam outfit,"headded.

During interrogation, one of the suspectssaid he went to Bogra from Dhaka with a sharp weapon last week, while another went to Bogra from Barguna, the RAB official said at the press briefing.

"The ABT man, who went to Bogra, called one of the online activists over phone to meet him, but the online activist did not show up at the meeting place," he added.

Among the arrestees, Shahriar, from Dhunot upazila in Bogra, studied till Class 7 in a madrasa. He joined the ABT under the influence of an ABT member named Aman whom he met on Facebook.

The RAB official added: "Rasel, from Fulgachia in Bhola, passed SSC exams in 2013 and took a job in an RMG factory. Later, he worked as a construction worker. He, too, was influenced by Aman into joining ABT.

"Rasel was the point person for communication with different people, collecting money from them and recruiting members, as per the ABT high command’s directive."

The RAB media wing director further added: "Nurul, who is from Bogra, passed his Dakhil examination in 2010, later took admission in Bogra Polytechnic Institute in 2015. He was radicalized by Shahriar."

Malek, a driver by profession, was influenced by Rasel through social media and joined ABT in 2018, he added.

RAB is currently preparing to take legal action against the detainees, the RAB official said.

Passerby severely injured trying to stop assault on Jewish man in Germany
[IsraelTimes] Attacker shoved an elderly man in Orthodox Jewish garb to the ground, then badly beat man who intervened.
Long and long ago, when I had only known Mr, Wife long enough for us both to realize that I did not handle the idea of physical violence well, he made me promise that if we were ever in a bad situation I was to run off and fetch the police, leaving him to handle the fighting. Kudos to the man who intervened here — he is truly a Mensch.
A man who tried to prevent a suspected anti-Semitic assault at a German train station was severely beaten by the alleged culprit.

The incident unfolded on Jan. 23 at the train station of Langen, a southern suburb of Frankfurt. An inebriated 27-year-old German citizen of Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
ian descent accosted verbally and then shoved to the ground a much older man who was dressed like an Orthodox Jew, the Hessenschau newspaper reported Tuesday.

The older man got up and boarded a train unscathed, but a passerby who intervened ended up being injured much more seriously by the alleged aggressor, the paper reported. The 48-year-old victim was pummeled repeatedly and severely injured on his face and hands, the report said.

Police are trying to trace the man whom they say the suspect shoved to the ground.

They are not certain whether the incident is anti-Semitic, the report also said. The suspect has a history of violent offenses, but not against Jews or other minorities.
Cameroon is 21% Muslim, so the odds are reasonable that this man is just a vicious ass who is completely unsuitable to have the privilege of German citizenship.

Dozens detained as police use batons, tear gas to disperse violent TLP protest in Karachi
[DAWN] Police on Friday resorted to tear gas shelling and baton charge to disperse protesting activists of the Tehrik-e-Labbaik Pakistain (TLP) in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, officials and witnesses said.

At least 50 TLP workers were detained as the protesters demonstrated against the Supreme Court's recent decision to uphold the acquittal of Aasia Bibi, a Christian woman who spent eight years wrongfully accused on death row in a blasphemy case.

Following a protest call issued by the party, several TLP workers first started gathering at Sharfabad signal near Bahadurabad soon after Friday prayers.

DIG East Amir Farooqi told Dawn that police had already asked the party to desist from holding any protests.

The officer claimed that the religious party's workers pelted stones on moving vehicles, damaging the windows of many of them. They also allegedly damaged a police mobile.

"The police used baton charge and tear gas to disperse them," he said.

DIG Farooqi confirmed that a total of 50 TLP workers were jugged
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
after the violent protest was brought to an end.

"The police will register a case against them under Section 7 of the Anti Terrorism Act (ATA) over charges of terror and rioting as they resorted to pelting stones, and damaged private and public vehicles," the bigwig revealed.

Palestinians, Israeli army clash at West Bank site of deadly incident
[IsraelTimes] Protesters at village of al-Mughayyir, where Hamdi Na’asan was killed in a disputed clash last week, hurl stones at soldiers who respond with tear gas and rubber bullets.

Clashes erupted Friday between Paleostinian protesters and Israeli soldiers in the northern West Bank village of al-Mughayyir, the site of a deadly incident last week.

Hundreds of demonstrators waving Paleostinian flags rallied in the village. Paleostinians hurled stones and soldiers responded with tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowds.

The official Paleostinian news agency Wafa reported that seven Paleostinians were maimed. There was no immediate comment from the IDF.

Hamdi Na’asan, 38, was killed last Saturday near al-Mughayyir during festivities with settlers and soldiers.

There are conflicting claims as to how the deadly incident unfolded. Local Paleostinians say the settlers fatally shot Na’asan during an altercation, but residents of the neighboring Adei Ad outpost claim their security guards fired shots in the air to chase away Paleostinians attackers who stabbed a Jewish teen.

In a statement to the media, the Israeli 19-year-old who was allegedly attacked said he had walked 200 meters (600 feet) from the outpost for some solitude when "suddenly I saw three Arabs who ambushed me. They attacked me, hit me, and tried to drag me towards [their] village. I managed to escape to Adei Ad, and on the way I realized I had been stabbed in the hand. I saw blood."

The teen said he got in touch with the outpost’s security squad and "they gave chase to the attackers." He added that he was lightly injured, but did not require hospitalization.

While Israeli authorities have not yet asked Paleostinians to provide testimony, police summoned over 20 members of the Adei Ad security squad that responded to Saturday’s incident to offer their account of what took place. A police front man clarified to The Times of Israel that the settlers were not questioned as suspects, but that their weapons were seized as part of the investigation.

Confusion still surrounds the different versions of events and the timeline of the clash. Audio recordings obtained by Hadashot news appeared to show the army being called by a local settler, half an hour after the clash started, who said that the Adei Ad civilian security team had been sent to the village. The caller was told by the army officer that "we are not dispatching forces to that."

Twenty minutes later, a member of the security team called the army again, saying "we are talking about immediate threat to life." The caller confirmed to the army dispatcher that he was talking about al-Mughayyir and the dispatcher replied that a Border Police force was already on the scene. However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
the security team member said that the force was south of the village and apparently not at the location of the clash.

Many settlements have civilian security teams composed of residents who are usually army veterans. The teams train regularly and serve as a first response unit to security incidents until the IDF or police arrive on the scene.

10,000 Palestinians protest on Gaza border, 24 said injured
[IsraelTimes] Regular Friday demonstration comes with an Egyptian delegation said to be in the Strip in attempt to maintain relative calm.

Some 10,000 Paleostinians took part in violent protests along the Gazoo border on Friday, burning tires and hurling rocks and bombs at IDF soldiers.

Troops were responding to the demonstrators with tear gas and occasional live fire.

The Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,-run health ministry in Gazoo said 23 protesters were maimed by live fire in festivities with Israeli security forces along the border and a female paramedic was hit in the face with a tear gas canister.

The weekly protest comes with an Egyptian security delegation reportedly in the Gazoo Strip to meet Hamas leaders and discuss efforts to maintain calm in and around the coastal enclave. The delegation is being led by Ahmed Abdelkhaliq, the official in the Egyptian General Intelligence Services responsible for Paleostinian affairs, reports said.

For the past several months, Egypt, United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
special coordinator to the Middle East grinding of the peace processor Nikolay Mladenov and Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
have worked to preserve calm in Gazoo and prevent flareups between Israel and terror groups in the Strip.
Hard work for no pay-off — I think there’s a word for that...
Friday’s protests were held at various locations along the border under the banner of Hamas’s ongoing "March of Return" demonstrations.
The Pulse (Nigeria) adds:
Thirty-two Paleostinians were shot and maimed by Israeli troops in renewed festivities along the Gazoo border Friday, the health ministry in the Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,-run enclave said.
Life is tough. It's even tougher when you try to bully people with live ammunition.
inistry front man Ashraf al-Qudra said in a statement they were shot during protests along the border, but none were reported to be in a life threatening condition.
