Egypt's military kills 8 'extremely dangerous' terrorists in the Western Desert
Lots of bad guy coordination and weapons smuggling from Libya along that border, while the Egyptian army has hunted on both sides of the border with self-proclaimed Field Marshall Khalifa Haftar‘s permission. Lots of possibilities for the identity of this particular lot of dangerous terrorists including, but not limited to groups associated with ISIS, al-Qaeda and Moslem Brüderbund.
[AlAhram] Egypt's military killed eight "extremely dangerous" bandidos bandidos bully boys in the country's Western Desert, according to a Saturday statement by military front man Tamer El-Refai.

"In continuation of the efforts of the armed forces and the civilian police in combating terrorist and criminal elements in all strategic directions...after locating their exact location, the air force targeted the terrorists’ spot," the statement read.

The military spokesperson said that the information was based on reliable intelligence in cooperation with the national security sector.

The terrorist cell was planning to carry hostile acts aimed at destabilising the country, according to the statement.

The operation resulted in the destruction of a 3-wheel-drive truck with quantities of weapons and ammunition.

The armed forces and civilian police continue their efforts in pursuing terrorist and criminal elements to safeguard the security and stability of the country.

The military has been carrying out Operation Sinai 2018, a counter-terrorism campaign since February 2018. It involves land, naval and air forces, as well as the police and border guards.

It targets "terrorist and criminal elements and organizations" and is focused on northern and central Sinai, as well as parts of the Nile Delta and the Western Desert.

Boko Haram kill 6 in southeast Niger
[AlAhram] Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
islamists have rubbed out six people in a village in south Niger, near the border with Nigeria, a local official said Saturday.

"Six people were killed Friday night by Boko Haram at Bague Djaradi," a village in Toumour commune, the official told AFP, adding the assailants were on foot.

The attack was the latest in a series ascribed to the jihadist group which began a bloody insurgency in 2009 that has spread to neighbouring countries, prompting a regional military response.

Some 27,000 people have been killed and two million displaced, sparking a dire humanitarian crisis in the region.

Militants have targeted soldiers and civilians alike, and are blamed for abductions of children and employees of foreign companies.

Last Tuesday the group was blamed for the deaths of four people in Bosso, a town not far from Toumour, and for the torching of several vehicles.

The Bosso and Toumour attacks follow on a recent military offensive against the group in the area which saw more than 200 militia killed, according to army sources.

Although Lake Chad forms a natural barrier limiting the group's easy access across the border from Nigeria the presidents of Chad, Nigeria, Niger and Cameroon

The Grand Turk
Turkey jails Kurdish politicians over alleged terror links
[DW] A court in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
has sentenced two Kurdish politicians to lengthy prison terms on charges of belonging to a terrorist organization. The opposition HDP party says the judgment is part of an effort to wipe out democracy.

A Ottoman Turkish court has handed prison sentences to ex-parliamentarians Gultan Kisanak and Sebahat Tuncel (pictured above) for belonging to a terrorist organization and disseminating terrorist propaganda.

Both women have been in jug since late 2016.

Tuncel, a former co-chair of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), was locked away
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
for 15 years, according to the Demiroren News Agency (DHA). She has been on hunger strike for three weeks and did not attend the hearing in court.

Kisanak, who was serving as the joint mayor of Diyarbakir in Turkey's Kurdish southeast at the time of her arrest, was given a sentence of 14 years and three months.

The politicians are accused of making speeches in favor of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and spreading propaganda during rallies and speeches. The PKK is blacklisted as a terror group by Turkey, the United States and the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...

'Eliminating democratic politics'
Kisanak rejected the charges in court, protesting that she had already been in jug for over two years.

"I do what I do because it is true, legal, legitimate, humanitarian," DHA quoted her as saying. "Everything I do is in the frame of democratic politics."

The HDP wrote on Twitter that it considers the trial a political rather than legal process that is aimed at "eliminating democratic politics."

The PKK has waged a decadeslong insurgency against the Ottoman Turkish state, seeking political autonomy and cultural rights for Turkey's Kurdish minority.

The Ottoman Turkish government accuses the HDP of being a political front for the PKK, and President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
has said that ousting elected officials and civil servants with suspected PKK links is crucial to crushing the group's uprising.

Several opposition politicians are currently behind bars, including former HDP co-chairs Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag.

Hunger strikes
In late January, a Ottoman Turkish court released Kurdish politician Leyla Guven from prison. She was locked away
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
last year for criticizing Ankara's military operation in Syria and labeling it "an invasion."

The 55-year-old HDP politician has been on hunger strike for almost three months to protest against the treatment of Kurdish bad boy leader and PKK head Abdullah Ocalan in prison.

More than 200 prisoners across Turkey have since launched their own hunger strikes to show support for her campaign.

(IS) suspects in a Ottoman Turkish town on the Syrian border while they were attempting to cross the frontier illegally, state-run Anadolu news agency reported Saturday.

Border units from the Ottoman Turkish armed forces captured the suspects on Friday in the Akcakale district of Sanliurfa in southeast The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, Anadolu said.

One of the suspects, identified as Feride Samur, was being sought with a red notice arrest warrant, it added.

IS jihadists are blamed in Turkey for a spate of terror attacks including a 2015 bombing on a peace rally in the capital Ankara's train station that claimed 100 lives.

Turkey has boosted security at its border crossings to prevent any infiltrations and allowed a US-led international coalition to launch air raids on the group's bases in Syria from its soil.

[DAWN] Bloody Karachi

police on Saturday started the paperwork but haven't done much else against 39 held workers of Tehrik-e-Labbaik Pakistain (TLP) under terror and other charges for allegedly clashing with law enforcement agencies while holding protest demonstrations a day earlier.

The demonstrations were held against the Supreme Court's recent decision to dismiss a review petition and uphold the acquittal of Aasia Bibi ‐ a Christian woman who spent eight years wrongfully accused on death row in a blasphemy case.

"New Town police have registered a first information report (FIR) against 39 leaders and workers of TLP under Section 7 of the Anti Terrorism Act, 1997," DIG East Amir Farooqi told Dawn.

Southeast Asia
Eight dead as Philippine soldiers clash with Abu Sayyaf militants
[AlAhram] Philippine troops killed three suspected Abu Sayyaf
...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...
bully boyz and suffered five fatalities during a firefight on a remote southern island, the military said on Saturday.

The clash with more than 100 members of the Abu Sayyaf group broke out in the town of Patikul in the Sulu province at 11:30 a.m. as troops pursued those behind a church attack on Sunday, Colonel Gerry Besana, front man for the military's Western Mindanao Command said.

The church bombing in Sulu, which killed 22 people and maimed more than 100 including civilians and soldiers, was a suicide kaboom carried out by an Indonesian couple, with help of the Abu Sayyaf group, Interior Minister Eduardo Año said on Friday.

Abu Sayyaf is a bully boy organization notorious for kidnappings and Lion of Islam factions and has pledged allegiance to Islamic State

. Sulu province, in the country's Mindanao region, is a known stronghold of the group.

The encounter in Patikul lasted nearly two hours, Besana said, with five soldiers and 15 bully boyz also maimed.

#8  I don’t know about an actual space center, Charles, but Iran has had its eye on space for a decade. Background from a Times of Israel article on the fire published subsequent to g(r)omgoru’s (thank you for getting there first with the important bit, g(r)omgoru!):

Iran plans to launch a satellite into orbit despite US and Israeli criticism that such launches benefit its ballistic missile program, since the rockets used in the two programs depend on very similar technology.

In January, the country launched a satellite, but authorities said it failed to reach the “necessary speed” in the third stage of its launch due to a technical malfunction.

Iran had said that it planned to send two non-military satellites, Payam and Doosti, into orbit. The Payam, which means “message” in Farsi, was an imagery satellite that Iranian officials said would help with farming and other activities.

Iran, which has long said it does not seek nuclear weapons, maintains its satellite launches and rocket tests do not have a military component. Tehran also says it is not violating a United Nations resolution that only “called upon” it not to conduct such tests.

Over the past decade, Iran has sent several short-lived satellites into orbit and in 2013 claimed to have launched a monkey into space.

province, long a flashpoint, where separatists carry out cross-border raids.

The assailants struck a base of the Basij militia in the town of Nikshahr, some way from the border, IRNA said.

"Morteza Ali-Mohammadi was martyred in the incident and the five critically injured have been transferred to the hospital," Nikshahr's prosecutor Mohsen Golmohammadi told the semi-official YJC news agency.

The krazed killer Jaish al-Adl (Army of Justice), which is blacklisted as a terrorist group by Iran, grabbed credit for the raid on social media.

State media said only that it was a "terrorist" attack, and held no particular group responsible.

Jaish al-Adl was formed in 2012 as a successor to the Sunni bad boy group Jundallah

Attack on Iranian paramilitary base kills 1, wounds 5
[IsraelTimes] Two attackers scaled the wall of a Basij paramilitary base and opened fire Saturday, killing one member of Iran’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and wounding five others in the southeastern town of Nikshahr, Iranian media reported.

Nikshahr prosecutor Mohsen Golmohammadi told the semi-official Mehr news agency the victim was a "member of the Guard" and identified him as Morteza Aliahmadi. He did not elaborate on Aliahmadi’s rank. The Basij is affiliated with the IRGC.

Golmohammadi said both attackers escaped.

The attack happened during the morning flag raising at the base, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

province. Last week, a double-bombing attack injured three coppers in Zahedan, the historic provincial capital. Baluch separatists and narcos have grabbed credit for past attacks.

The province has a large, mainly Sunni Moslem ethnic Baluchi community which straddles the border.

The jihadist Jaish al-Adl (Army of Justice), which is blacklisted as a terrorist group by Iran, grabbed credit for the raid on social media.

State media said only that it was a "terrorist" attack, and held no particular group responsible.

It also grabbed credit for two bombings on Wednesday which maimed several coppers in the historic provincial capital Zahedan.

In December, a suicide boom-mobileer struck a police headquarters in the port city of Chabahar, killing at least two police and wounding 42 others.
