BLUF:
[Breitbart] But the widespread reliance on Chinese labor is federal policy, says Eric Weinstein, the managing director of Thiel Capital, an investment firm owned by Peter Thiel. In March 2017, Weinstein wrote that the policy was adopted in the 1980s by U.S. research leaders who wanted:
to keep American scientific employers from having to pay the full US market price of high skilled labor. They hoped to keep the US research system staffed with employees classified as "trainees," "students," and "post-docs" for the benefit of employers. The result would be to render the US scientific workforce more docile and pliable to authority and senior researchers by attempting to ensure this labor market sector is always flooded largely by employer-friendly visa holders who lack full rights to respond to wage signals in the US labor market.
The growing security problem posed by the establishment’s reliance on Chinese researchers was garishly demonstrated by an October 4 report in Bloomberg News which described how China’s spy agency inserted spy chips into the Chinese-built "motherboard" components bought and resold throughout the United States by Super Micro Computer Inc.:
#1
Old problem, same rationale. If you were in charge of Chinese espionage targeted against the United States, what would you do to achieve maximum results ?

Universities embrace globalism and reject American nationalism have no problem embracing Chinese nationalism. It's as though they're just anti-American. (do I need to put a /sarc on that?)
[Space.com] Rick Searfoss, a former NASA astronaut who launched on three space shuttle missions before serving as a test pilot for a commercial rocket plane, has died. He was 62.
Searfoss died on Sunday, Sept. 29, at his home in Bear Valley Springs, California, according to the Tehachapi News on Friday (Oct. 5). The cause of death was not reported.
The Association of Space Explorers, which counted Searfoss among its members, posted a memorial to its Facebook page on Monday evening.
An aspiring astronaut since his youth, Searfoss was serving as a flight instructor at the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base in California when he was chosen with NASA's 13th group of candidates, nicknamed "The Hairballs."
"I received a life-changing phone call in January 1990 when Don Puddy, Johnson Space Center Flight Crew Operations Director, came on the line and asked, in his smooth bass voice and Texas accent, 'Rick, how'd you like to come on down to JSC and work for me in the Astronaut Office?'" wrote Searfoss in "Liftoff: An Astronaut Commander's Countdown For Purpose Powered Leadership," his 2016 motivational book. "My immediate response: 'I'll be there tomorrow if you want!'"
[NYP] Assorted Western sagas got lassoed together in "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs."
You’re told the film’s by "brilliant Ethan and Joel Coen." How brilliant, who knows? They speak to nobody.
Liam Neeson: "I play a traveling impresario. We filmed in New Mexico. The odd thing is the horse who pulls my wagon knew me."
Like what’s that mean? He’s seen your movies?
"You won’t believe it. I’m saying this horse knew me. He actually remembered me from another Western we made a while back. I love animals. When we worked together before I took special care of him. I fed him treats. Gave him apples."
So this horse, he said, "Hi" when you walked over?
"He whinnied when he saw me. And pawed the ground."
Wow. Beats even a Miley Cyrus reaction.
Co-starring is James Franco, Tyne Daly and Zoe Kazan, who hit the screening in floor-length fluffy Valentino. It’s not worn in the film. Wild West wagontrains weren’t big on Valentinos.
At the NY Film Festival, a Tim Blake Nelson said: "I play singing cowboy Buster Scruggs. You’d think, who am I to play a lead being short, small of frame, not handsome, not well-known? Only with the Coen brothers could this happen.
"They’re friends. I’m an actor who’s done 80 films. My character’s a killer but doesn’t kill unless he’s provoked. He lives by a code. In a sense, he feels justified. It’s self-defense." OK.
A diminutive actor is the lead. Another actor is pals with a horse. Go see the thing yourself.
Dogs and horses I trust. Mr. Neeson, not so much; he has a history of saying goofy shit when he has a movie coming out, and neither myself or IMDB seem to remember a western of his in the last 10 years.
I mean, is he talking Seraphim Falls? 2006? How old is this horse?
Million ways to die in the West, I'd call that a comedy not a western. Western was the setting, not genre.
If I seem a bit tight on the strike zone, it is because I have no idea how he got the reputation of someone who can pull Jedi night, master worldwide shinobi, Hannibal Smith, or any of these other philosopher fighter roles he lands.

I'm also not surprised as they probably have one or two companies that provide the horses and a big guy like Liam is likely to get a big horse. The odds aren't all that incredible.

Mutimbe (34) was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa, who remanded him to October 22 on $30 bail.
Prosecutors said on June 7 this year, Mutimbe unlawfully deprived Zakeyo of her freedom after he refused to let her leave ZimAirways premises in Harare after she had been fired by Chikore.

Being a professional protester can be quite lucrative. Take, for example, Ana Maria Archila, who makes nearly three times the annual U.S. median household income doing things like confronting Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) in an elevator.
Archila (pictured above right) is one of eight officials making two and three times, or more, above the U.S. Census Bureau’s median average U.S. household income of $60,336 working for the tax-exempt nonprofit Center for Popular Democracy (CPD). Thanks to her encounter with Flake (above left), she is likely the most famous of the eight.

From Wiki:
The Center for Popular Democracy (CPD) is an American advocacy group that promotes progressive politics. CPD is a federation of groups that includes some of the old chapters of ACORN. The group's stated goal is to "envision and win an innovative pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda." The organization is allied with teachers’ unions and has published studies criticizing charter schools.
Funding
CPD has received funding from the Bauman Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Democracy Alliance, and the Open Society Foundations.
Open Society Foundations (OSF), formerly the Open Society Institute, is an international grantmaking network founded by business magnate George Soros.

Yeah but getting those jobs is very hard for people who have a soul. Personally, I would think being a hitman would be easier than having to listen and parrot their drivel, and pretend to believe that crap in public and private.
#4
CPD is endorsed by Democracy Alliance, founded by Soros. The Democracy Alliance operates by recommending liberal organizations to wealthy alliance partners, who are each obligated to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars each year on supporting the approved groups such as the ACLU, the Women's March, Priorities USA, Media Matters for America, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, and Indivisible. Tom Steyer, teachers' union president Randi Weingarten, and Wendi Wallace, Planned Parenthood's political outreach director, & Democracy Alliance partner Billy Wimsatt were present at the April agenda setting meeting.
Did not see this one coming!
[Axios, via Red Siren Drudge] - President Trump has accepted Nikki Haley's resignation as UN Ambassador, according to two sources briefed on their conversation. The timing of her departure is still unclear.
What we're hearing: Haley discussed her resignation with Trump last week when she visited him at the White House, these sources said. Her news shocked a number of senior foreign policy officials in the Trump administration.
Background: Haley, the former governor of South Carolina, was easily confirmed four days after President Trump's inauguration in 2017.
She has overseen Trump's shift in dealing with the UN, including the U.S. exit from the UN Human Rights Council, which Haley called the organization's "greatest failure."
Nah. Bolton's where he needs to be, helping to undo the policy nightmares of the last 3 admins. Move him to Sec State if/when Pompeo moves on. The "lamentations of their women" would be awesome.
If it was up to me, I'd take a page out of Caligula's playbook and send a horse. But I expect Trump will find someone who fights, as Haley did.

Grom, if she sticks to those kinds of roles, fine, but I don't want her in any position of real power.
Her mouth writing checks her ass won't have to cash is exactly what she's good at.
She was a neverTrumper, she was bad on domestic issues (people bothered by toppled statues forget that her fecklessness was instrumental in the spread of that phenomenon) and making speeches at the hot air factory on Turtle Bay doesn't make up for all that, IMO.

Besoeker, even though you forgot your sarcasm tag, you may have a good idea here. Jeff has been asleep long enough that he probably isn't aware we pulled out of the UNHRC, so have him go run that. By the time he figures it out in 2024, it will be too late.
[DAWN] Police have alerted the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)’s immigration staff at the Islamabad International Airport (IIA) to arrest a Pak expatriate wanted in connection with the killing of his wife and a daughter and injuring two other daughters over a domestic dispute in Kallar Syedan on Saturday.
A source close to the investigation told Dawn that soon after the incident the police alerted the immigration authorities at the IIA to stop the murder suspect identified as Tariq Mehmood from flying out of the country.
The suspect got settled in Spain 15 years ago and came to Pakistain on Sept 3. After landing at the Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore, he came to his native town Kallar Syedan on Saturday afternoon.
Mr Mehmood married Rukhsana alias Lubna about 27 years ago and the couple had four daughters and a son.
After reaching home, he had a brawl with his wife over the marriage of his elder daughter.
Mohammad Naeem Butt, a brother of Rukhsana, 45, in a report registered with the police stated that he along with his brother Saqib Nadeem was at his sister’s house on Saturday.
He said his brother-in-law started quarrelling with his wife and then pulled out a pistol and shot up her.
He also shot and injured his daughters Durre Shahwar, 23, Umme Kulsoom, 20, and Najma Tariq, 17.
Ms Rukhsana and Kulsoom, who were seriously injured, died while being taken to hospital. Ms Kulsoom was a commerce graduate, he added.
Durre Shahwar and her younger sister Najma Tariq, who suffered bullet injuries to their arms, were shifted to the Holy Family Hospital (HFH) where they were stated to be out of danger.
Later, Mr Butt told Dawn that Durre Shahwar was discharged on Sunday while Najma was still under treatment at the hospital.
The police said Mr Mehmood wanted to marry off his elder daughter according to his wish but she refused and got her Nikah solmenised on her own.
The police said a team along with the copy of the murder case had been sent to the IIAP to prevent the alleged murderer from flying out of the country.

[Al Jazeera] Campaigners are calling on India to protect girls in state-run institutions who are at risk of sexual assault and violence after 34 girls were violently attacked by a mob for fighting off sexual harassers in Bihar state.
Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, a residential school for girls in Supaul district, witnessed chaotic scenes on Saturday after some girls objected to sexual advances and lewd messages from a group of boys.
A mob comprising the boys and their parents later entered the school where they beat and injured dozens of girls aged between 12 and 14.
"The girls were playing inside the school compound when some boys came in and tried to sexually harass them. The girls fought them off and there was an altercation. A mob then gathered with the boys' parents who beat up the girls," Jagatpati Chaudhury, the District Education Officer in Supaul, told Al Jazeera.
"The girls were maimed, shocked, in trauma and were rushed to hospital. These were scenes of havoc as most of the girls are in sixth and seventh grades."
A video uploaded on social media by a local news website, The Bihar Post, showed a girl from the school after the attack.

swksvolFF:I feel like just jumped down the rabbit hole after reading those headlines. However, it seems like I've recently read all those headlines.
There's always Venezuela!
[Indie Wire, via Drudge] - Robert Redford may be done acting, but he’s not riding off into the sunset anytime soon. The actor, filmmaker, and Sundance Film Festival founder published "A Brief Statement About Big Things" on the Sundance Institute’s website yesterday, writing that he feels "out of place in the country I was born into" for the first time he can remember and that he has "watched with sadness as our civil servants have failed us."
The overtly political speech was published the same day that Brett Kavanaugh’s ascension to the Supreme Court following a nasty confirmation process that once again emphasized how bitterly divided the country has become. Neither Kavanaugh nor anyone else is mentioned by name, but Redford citing "bigotry, mean-spiritedness, and mockery as the now-normal tools of the trade" suggests his anger probably isn’t directed at Amy Klobuchar.
#1
Only Democrats lying about their true positions and media covering for them and that grift collapsing have made the county seem different. The actual center-right country hasn't changed.
Perhaps Mr Redford should move to Venezuela where the state still controls the media and can rebuild the illusions he so desperately craves.
#4
Well then the country which made you oh so wealthy and wise has gifted you the ability to choose anywhere in the world to live. I am only curious of the choice.
#5
If you feel bad about this place imagine how those of us who aren't worth millions of dollars feel about the way you fucking assholes have remade it.
#9
So Robert, where are you considering moving to ?
Iraq, Syria ? maybe some other "highly democratic" regime ?
I am not sure if I like Brett's ascension myself, assuming he is a serial rapist, but the problem with leftists is that they tend to ignore similar problems with Democratic nominees or politicians. For example the Clinton foundation Saudi Arabian financing sources ( where was R.R. when this was made public ?

The comment about the FBI aside, I understand a very serious visit from the US Marshalls followed in short order.
The Marshall Service protects federal judges and courthouses. They work directly for the judges.
