[Dhaka Tribune] Members of Bangladeshi Death Eater outfit Ansar al-Islam are now secretly training with the separatist Kuki rebels in India, Bangladeshi counterterrorism officials have learnt.
The Death Eater operatives are also trying to collect weapons from the separatist group based in the north-east states of Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur in India, reported Bangla Tribune.
Officials of the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crimes (CTTC) unit of police gleaned this information from Ansar al-Islam operative Sheikh Abdullah alias Zubayer alias Zayed alias Babed alias Abu Omair, during interrogation.
The Kuki separatist group is mainly active in the north-eastern parts of India, but Kuki people are also present in the Chin state of Myanmar and the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh.
Ansar al-Islam law enforcement agencies say is made up of the old members of Death Eater outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team banned in 2015, that targeted secular activists, writers and bloggers, as well as LGBT activists. The group was also banned in 2017.
Zubayer was tossed in the calaboose ... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not... by the CTTC in Chittagong on July 17 as the prime suspect in the 2016 murder of LGBT activists Xulhaz Mannan and Mahbub Rabbi Tonoy, who confessed to being involved in the double murder.
CTTC Sherlocks say Zubayer liaised between the Kuki rebels in India and the Ansar al-Islam in Bangladesh on behalf of the Death Eater group’s top leader, sacked armed forces Major Zia ul Haque.
Zubayer, who joined Ansar al-Islam in 2013 and was gradually promoted to run the intelligence wing of the Death Eater group, sent its operatives to India to the Kuki rebels for training, the officials said.
Being a trusted accomplice of Zia, he was also in charge of collecting funds and the Death Eater group’s management, the Sherlocks said.
"Zubayer is an important member of Ansar al-Islam. He has confessed to being involved in the Xulhaz-Tonoy murder before court. We have collected some vital information about the organization from him during interrogation; we are now verifying the information," said CTTC Deputy Commissioner Mohibul Islam Khan.
Officials working on the case said Zia was currently hiding in the greater Chittagong area, but his exact location has yet to be identified.
During the interrogation, Zubayer told the CTTC that he travelled to Dhaka once a month to collect funds ‐ amounting from Tk2 lakh to Tk6 lakh ‐ from designated individuals on Zia’s instruction.
A portion of that fund would be sent to Zia, and the rest would be sent to the heads of different units of Ansar al-Islam.
CTTC Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Saiful Islam said Zubayer gave names of Ansar al-Islam sympathizers.
"These sympathizers provide the funds to the Death Eater organization. We are looking for these people to find out more details," he told Bangla Tribune.

[Dhaka Tribune] Militancy threats in Bangladesh have almost been brought under control following combined efforts by law enforcement agencies, civilians, and different organizations.
Currently, the country is not facing any major krazed killer threat as the krazed killer groups, who once operated here, have lost their capacity to carry out fresh attacks.
Law enforcement officials said the turbans no longer have viable channels to procure financial and logistical support, as the law enforcement agencies have been maintaining vigilance.

Most of which takes place at oh-dark hundred in some low-rent upazila.
[AnNahar] Britannia has suspended cooperation with the United States over two Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... terror suspects, the government announced Friday, following concerns that they could face the death penalty . Britannia said Monday it was sharing intelligence to help the United States bring to trial two fighters captured in Syria, who were part of a group of British jihadists nicknamed the "Beatles".
But Home Secretary Sajid Javid, the interior minister, faced intense criticism after agreeing to share intelligence without seeking assurances the men would not face execution if they were extradited.
The Home Office said it had agreed to a "short-term pause" of the mutual legal assistance process with the US over Alexanda Amon Kotey and El Shafee el-Sheikh after a request from lawyers acting for one of the men.
"We received a request from the legal representative of the family of one of the suspects to pause the MLA response," a front man said.
"We have agreed to a short-term pause. The government remains committed to bringing these people to justice and we are confident we have acted in full accordance of the law and within the government's longstanding MLA policy."
On Monday, Security Minister Ben Wallace told MPs that a British trial was unlikely for the pair, who were seized earlier this year by US-backed Syrian forces.
He also said the pair were not British citizens, without giving further details. News reports had said that the government had unusually stripped them of their nationality.
Kotey and Sheikh were part of a four-member kidnapping gang within the Islamic State group dubbed "The Beatles" by their captives due to their heavy British accents.
The cell is also believed to have included Mohammed Emwazi -- known as "Jihadi John" -- who was killed in an air strike in 2015, and Aine Davis, who has been incarcerated Into the paddy wagon wit' yez! in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund.... They were notorious for videotaping beheadings and are believed to have killed US journalist James Foley and many Western aid workers.
The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces caught Kotey in January as he tried to flee Syria for Turkey, while a US defence official said in February that Sheikh had also been captured by Syrian rebel forces.

Surprised the famous basilica there in Saint-Denis is still standing.
The real pleasure is using it as a mosque, as the Hagia Sophia was until Ataturk turned it, temporarily, into a secular museum. But it is lookingmore and more like Sultan Erdogan the First,”the much beloved”, will end up returning it to Muslim religious use.
[Ynet] Washington Post report cites official 'familiar' with a failed deal in which US president personally asked Netanyahu to free suspected Hamas-collaborator Ebru Ozkan to secure release of US Pastor Andrew Brunson who has been detained in Turkey for 2 years.
Brunson served as pastor of Izmir Resurrection Church, a small Protestant congregation, and has lived in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... for 23 years. He was detained by Ottoman Turkish forces in the aftermath of the failed July 2016 coup, The indictment against him contends he worked to convert Kurds to Christianity in order to sow discord in Turkey.
On July 18 a Ottoman Turkish court rejected appeals to free Brunson, setting the next hearing for October.
Brunson rejected evidence against him during a recent hearing, according to Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency.
"I believe in and support Turkey’s territorial integrity," he told the court. "I forgive those who lie and bear false witness against me."

Is Erdogan the ONE leader on Earth who thinks it is a good idea to double-cross President Donald Trump?
I doubt that Erdogan (or even Trump) has ever read Candide, but Erdogan may wish to review the Cliff Notes version, with respect to the phase "pour encourager des autres" (http://volokh.com/2010/05/02/pour-encourager-les-autres/

Trump is used to making deals in private business where contracts are enforced through the court system.
De facto no such thing exists in international relations, thus direct and blatant cheating can be a viable tactic.
A deal per se is worthless unless it is executed in such a way that renders impossible violations by either side.
If the Trump administration doesn't follow through with its threat of sanctions (maybe even if it does) Erdogan, having successfully humiliated the US, might be tempted to increase his leverage and take additional US hostages.

Trump is used to making deals in private business where contracts are enforced through the court system.
Trump is also used to dealing with Mafia-tinged unions, where contracts are enforced in other ways, I believe. But President Erdogan has been acting less like a normal head of a Western state and more like an Ottoman sultan, so I suspect any snatchable Westerner is at risk, just like in Iran.

But President Erdogan has been acting less like a normal head of a Western state and more like an Ottoman sultan
Western leaders have routinely refused to take Erdogan's and the OIC's official declarations seriously and to acknowledge the logical consequences of these openly declared doctrines.
If they had done so, they would have had to come to terms with the fact that these nations' official political position wrt the West is more hostile and aggressive than that of the Soviet Union after Chrushchev's adoption of "peaceful coexistence."
This is an article by Daniel Pipes that describes the aggressive and intimidating behavior by Turkish diplomats confronting critics which is unfavorably compared to Soviet diplomats' conduct.

Trump is also used to dealing with Mafia-tinged unions, where contracts are enforced in other ways
An important part of that culture is when someone *bleep*s you, you have to *bleep* them back in order to maintain your position AND as a deterrent to others. Trump doesn't seem like to sort of guy to let a slight slide by. (note that this is different than trading insults during a negotiation. see NKor for an example)
I understand "The Art of the Deal" touches on the importance of vengeance, but I have not read it myself.

If the reports are true this was more than a slight, it was fraud. Both sides agreed to an exchange. One side delivered. The other side didn't, even though the release wouldn't have been a burden on them.
The Erdogan regime has defrauded and humiliated the US and Israel by continuing to inflict at least psychological torture on an innocent man, because he's a US citizen and a Christian minister.
[Dhaka Tribune] Pakistain's former ruling party conceded defeat to cricket star-turned-politician Imran Khan ... aka Taliban Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality problems... ahead of final results from the country's disputed election, which European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... monitors on Friday said the election had not been fought on a level playing field.
Imran, during a speech declaring victory on Thursday, offered to investigate opposition allegations of vote-rigging and said he wanted to "unite" the country under his leadership.
The party of tossed in the calaboose Book 'im, Mahmoud! ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif ... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf, then by the courts... initially rejected the so far incomplete results, but by Friday its leaders appeared to accept that Khan would be the next prime minister.
"(PML-N) would play the role of a strong opposition," said Shehbaz Sharif, the PML-N president and brother of Nawaz Sharif, according to the English-language Dawn newspaper.
Shehbaz Sharif has said the vote count was rigged and vowed to offer evidence to the ECP. Both the PML-N and PPP say their party monitors at many voting centres were either kicked out during counting or had not received the official notifications of the precinct's results, instead being given handwritten tallies they could not verify.
"We are going to sit on opposition benches, despite all the reservations," said Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, a parliamentarian and the nephew of Nawaz Sharif, who is in prison after being convicted on corruption charges he disputes.
The allegations of rigging in Wednesday's election followed a bitter campaign in which Pakistain's powerful military was accused of tilting the race in favour of Khan, and trying to erase democratic gains made since the most recent spell of military rule ended in 2008.

Well, if the EU is against it, it must be good.
[DAWN] Amid allegations of rigging by various political parties, the 11th general election in the country on Wednesday produced some surprising results as a number of political heavyweights and seasoned politicians suffered defeat in their strongholds, albeit with a slim margin.
According to the unofficial results announced by the Election Commission of Pakistain (ECP) so far, Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf ...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations.... (PTI) chairman Imran Khan ... aka Taliban Khan, who isn't your heaviest-duty thinker, maybe not even among the top five... won all five seats where he had contested the elections, whereas the Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam ...a Pak religious party. It is usually part of the govt, never part of the solution... Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman Deobandi holy man, known as Mullah Diesel during the war against the Soviets, his sympathies for the Taliban have never been tempered by honesty ... and Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari lost in their traditional strongholds.
The PPP chairperson, who was contesting polls from three constituencies for the first time, lost the contest in Malakand (NA-8) to PTI candidate Junaid Akbar. In a major upset, Mr Bhutto-Zardari also lost to PTI’s Shakoor Shad in Lyari ...one of the eighteen constituent towns of the city of Karachi. It is the smallest town by area in the city but also the most densely populated. Lyari has few schools, substandard hospitals, a poor water system, limited infrastructure, and broken roads. It is a stronghold of ruling Pakistan Peoples Party. Ubiquitous gang activity and a thriving narcotics industry make Lyari one of the most disturbed places in Karachi, which is really saying a lot.... (NA-246) in Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... .
However, there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened... the PPP leader managed to win from his native constituency in Larkana (NA-200) with a significant margin against MMA candidate Rashid Soomro. Interestingly, the JUI-F chief lost in his hometown Dera Ismail Khan ... the Pearl of Pashtunistan ... (NA-39).
Asfandyar Wali Khan, who heads the Awami National Party founded by Abdul Wali Khan in 1986. Part of the PPP-led cabinet 2008-13. The ANP is considered left wing, advocating for secularism, democratic socialism, public sector government, and economic egalitarianism.... (ANP), lost the elections from his native Charsadda constituency (NA-24). The ANP president lost to Fazal Muhammad Khan of the PTI with a margin of over 23,000 votes.

[DAWN] There is no significant date on the India-Pakistain calendar until September, but with Imran Khan ... aka Taliban Khan, who ain't the brightest knife in the national drawer... speaking on Thursday about the need to resume talks between the two countries, the dates could swing dramatically closer.
September 19 will see the cricket teams playing each other in the Asia Cup contest in Dubai. The same month the military contingents of the two countries will be having their first joint participation in Russia to combat terrorism together with other members of the Shanghai club.
While Mr Khan’s Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf ...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations.... party looks set to form the next government, the good news from India’s point of view is that religious turbans have been shown the door by the watchful electorate. This could heighten the already existing chatter that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be around to bless the new government in Islamabad along with other Saarc players should such an invite go out for the inauguration.
"More significant than who won is who lost," said former minister Mani Shankar Aiyar in his blog. Urging India to resume talks with Pakistain he noted that Hafiz Saeed ...founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its false-mustache offshoot Jamaat-ud-Dawa. The United Nations declared the JuD a terrorist organization in 2008 and Hafiz Saeed a terrorist as its leader. Hafiz, JuD and LeT are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Pak intel apparatus, so that amounted to squat... ’s Allah-o-Akbar Tehrik fielded 50 candidates. All of them lost.
"The self-styled ’Islam-pasand’ parties ‐ the Jamaat-e-Islami ...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores... , the Jamaat-ul-Ulema-e-Pakistain, the Milli Awami League, et al ‐ banded together in a new political alliance called the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal... lost almost all the seats they contested, not just in Punjab 1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots.... but even on their home ground in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa."
They had "failed to fulfil Pak Senator Sherry Rehman’s nightmare, revealed on election night on one of our TV channels, of snuffies filling the ranks of the Pakistain National Assembly," Mr Aiyar noted with cheer.

[DAWN] With 74 seats the Pakistain Peoples Party looks set to form the government for a third term in a row even after suffering a setback in constituencies such as Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... ’s Lyari ...one of the eighteen constituent towns of the city of Karachi. Unlike the 2013 general elections, when an unregistered 10-party alliance was created ahead of the polls, the PPP this time confronted an alliance initially formed against bad governance and rampant corruption in Sindh.
Lately, it was registered as an electoral alliance by four political parties ‐ the Pakistain Moslem League-Functional, People’s Moslem League of Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Pakistain Peoples Party-Workers of Naheed Khan-Safdar Abbasi and National Peoples Party. Others who were part of the GDA included Ayaz Latif Palijo, Dr Zulfikar Mirza, his wife Dr Fehmida Mirza, and Ghous Ali Shah.

[DAWN] BADIN: Losing candidates ‐ one each from Badin, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and Shikarpur ‐ alleged on Thursday that they had been defeated through "technical rigging".
Haji Rasool Bux Chandio, aspirant for NA-230 (Badin), addressed a hurriedly called presser at Jamali House here on Thursday and alleged that the results were manipulated through massive rigging and other malpractices after 10pm on election day.
He said his agents were expelled from the polling stations by "khalaee makhlooq" and later on the results were manipulated, showing the lead of Dr Fehmida Mirza by 807 votes.
Mr Chandio said the sudden change in the direction of results in favour of his opponent Dr Fehmida Mirza, which initially showed his lead of 2,500 votes from the ballot counts of 233 polling stations, raised doubts. He said he had filed an application to the returning officer for recount of the votes.
According to Badin district PPP general secretary Haji Sain Bux Jamali, it remains unclear as to why PPP candidate Haji Taj Mohammad Mallah was shown successful by 2,400 votes against his rival candidate Dr Fehmida Mirza for PS-73, but later on the lead was reduced to only 281 votes.

[DAWN] Pakistain Awami Tehrik Quaid Tahirul Qadri ...Pak politician, and would-be dictator, founder and head of Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran and Pakistain Awami Tehrik. He usually resides in Canada, but returns to Pakistain periodically to foam at the mouth and lead demonstrations. Depending on which way the wind's blowing, Qadri claims to be the author of Pak's blasphemy law. Other times he says it wasn't him... on Thursday congratulated Imran Khan ... aka Taliban Khan, who is the lightweight's lightweight... on his overwhelming success in the general election, and said he fully endorsed the agenda that Khan announced in his victory speech.
He said: "We wish the Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf ...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations.... form government in Centre, Punjab 1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots.... and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The allegations of rigging are common in Pakistain, and the losing party always speaks of rigging; however, the Sharifs must pay respect to vote and accept verdict of the people. Now, it is responsibility of Imran Khan to provide justice to victim families of Model Town incident and hopefully Imran Khan will honour this commitment."
He said the people of Pakistain deserved a lot of appreciation for defeating the corrupt leaders. He said his decision of not participating in election under the current electoral system was based on principles, "but I still believe election should not mean change of faces, rather it should be for the welfare of country and its people."

[DAWN] Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal "Baby" Bhutto on Friday announced that his party rejects the election results and criticised the failure of the Election Commission of Pakistain (ECP) to hold fair and transparent elections.
Furthermore, the PPP chairman asked the chief election commissioner to resign immediately.
He, however, said that PPP will play its role as an opposition in the parliament setting an example for others on how "opposition [politics] is done".
"Free and fair elections are every Pak’s right and on that front we are not willing to compromise," he said, adding that PPP will take the matter forward in the parliament.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A group of Pak political parties Friday announced protests demanding new elections following allegations of rigging in this week’s nationwide polls that were won by cricket hero Imran Khan ... aka Taliban Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality problems... ’s party.
"We will run a movement for holding of elections again. There will be protests, said Maulana Fazalur Rehman from the All Parties Conference, which included the outgoing ruling party, the Pakistain Moslem League-Nawaz (PML-N).
The PML-N’s leader Shahbaz Sharif ...Pak dynastic politician, brother of PM Nawaz Sharif, chief minister of Punjab... announced his support for the "movement" but said he still needed to consult his party to see if they would boycott taking oaths that would swear them into parliament as well.
"The worst kind of irregularities have been committed which are unprecedented," said Sharif of the election.
The pivotal election has been branded "Pakistain’s dirtiest", after widespread claims in the months leading up to the vote that the powerful military was trying to fix the playing field in Khan’s favor.
European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... election observers expressed concerns that there was "a notable lack in equality of opportunity" in the vote, which was "not as good" as the country’s previous election in 2013.
Rival parties met late on Friday as part of an alliance called the All Parties Conference where they called out the military for interfering in the polls.
"We will not allow democracy to be taken hostage by the establishment," said Rehman, using a word widely understood in Pakistain to mean the military as he stood on stage along with members from more than a dozen parties.
The vote was meant to be a rare democratic transition in the Moslem country, which has been ruled by the powerful army for roughly half its history, but was marred by violence and allegations of military interference.
Election results were still trickling in late Friday; however, Khan’s Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf ...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations.... party won the largest share of seats in the National Assembly and was set to begin building a coalition to form a government.

They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... leader, of Egyptian origins, has been confirmed, after being killed last year in the Iraqi city of djinn-infested Mosul ... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn... , German security sources were quoted saying on Friday.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iraq’s top Shiite holy man Ayatollah Ali al-Sistan said on Friday that if the Iraqi government does not abide by its commitments, people will develop other peaceful means of protests to impose their will on the authority, adding that in this situation there will be a different scene which we will regret before it is too late.
Sistani voiced his concerns in his Friday sermon delivered by his Representative Abdel Mahdi al-Karbalai. The sermon was delivered in the Iraqi city of Kerbala.
The Iraqi top holy man also called for the formation of a new government as soon as possible, calling for the appointment of a strong and decisive prime minister who can meet the people’s demands urgently. He also called for the change of privileges given to some groups in the Iraqi parliament.
Sistani encouraged the incumbent government of Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi to respond urgently to protesters’ demands seeking better basic services and jobs.
"The current government must work hard urgently to implement citizens’ demands to reduce their suffering and misery," Sistani’s representative said.
Sistani said the next prime minister in the new government had to be strong and courageous to fight corruption in government.
"He (the new prime minister) must launch a relentless war against the corrupted and those who protect them," Sistani’s representative said.
Sistan further said "We demand that the electoral law be fair and that the Commission be independent and over the years we advised bigwigs to avoid reaching the current tragic stage."
Anger is mounting at a time when politicians are struggling to form a government after the May 12 election, which was marred by allegations of fraud that prompted a recount.
Sistani, a reclusive octogenarian, is revered by millions of Shi’ite Moslems in Iraq and abroad.
Thousands have protested this month in cities in the long-neglected south, Iraq’s Shi’ite heartland, against the lack of proper government services.

[IsraelTimes] Prime Minister Turnbull rejects claim, says 'no reason' to believe attack, which sources said would use Australian and UK intelligence, is imminent
US President Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... may have plans to bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities as early as next month, senior Australian government sources said, according to a Thursday report, though Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said he had "no reason" to believe a strike was imminent.
Sources said that Australian and British intelligence services would be involved in identifying targets for a strike, Australia’s ABC news reported.
However, if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning... the sources told the paper that Australia would not actively participate in an attack on Iran.
"Developing a picture is very different to actually participating in a strike," a source told ABC.
"Providing intelligence and understanding as to what is happening on the ground so that the Government and allied governments are fully informed to make decisions is different to active targeting," he said.
Turnbull appeared to reject the report, saying it was "speculation" and he had "no reason" to believe a strike was imminent.
"I saw a story today claiming that on the ABC, and citing senior Australian government sources," he said. "It’s speculation, it is citing anonymous sources."
He said that the ABC report information did not come from any of the relevant senior government officials.
"President Trump has made his views very clear to the whole world, but this story ... has not benefited from any consultation with me, the Foreign Minister, the Defense Minister or the Chief of the Defense Force," he said.
Australia and the UK partner with the US in the "Five Eyes" intelligence program, along with Canada and New Zealand, though the latter are unlikely to play any role in an attack on Iran, the sources told ABC.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A top Syrian Kurdish official is in Damascus this week for talks with Syrian government officials at the head of a delegation including members of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, their first declared visit to the capital.
The visit points to moves by the Kurdish-led authorities that control roughly one quarter of Syria to open channels to Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Supressor of the Damascenes... 's administration as they seek to negotiate a political deal that preserves their autonomy.
The delegation in Damascus is headed by Ilham Ahmed, executive head of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), said Riad Darar, SDC co-chair, speaking by phone from Vienna. The delegation arrived two days ago, he added.
The meetings were expected to primarily discuss matters of service provision in the areas controlled by the Kurdish-led authorities, but Darar added that there was no set agenda and the talks might widen to political and security matters.
The outcome of the meetings is not yet clear, he said, adding that he did not know which officials they would meet. It was not clear how long the delegation would stay in Damascus.

I start out being suspicious, *very* suspicious of any article that uses "ultra-powerful rocket launcher" for any weapon carried by a single person. Rank it with all those articles about wind turbine infra-sound and how WiFi causes brain cancer...
