[CHICAGO.CBSLOCAL] An officer with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was shot and critically maimed overnight in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Eddie Johnson had a direct message to the offenders on Friday: "Believe me you will not get away with this." "We are coming for you," said Johnson, who said four officers have been shot in that neighborhood in the past year.
Authorities said Friday that there is now a $61,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
Chicago Police say they were working on a joint operation with ATF when the officer was ambushed and shot in the face and the bullet exited through his cheekbone. The agent was taken to Stroger Hospital where is condition was stabilized. An ATF official said the officer is expected to fully recover.
A Chicago police officer returned fire but did not strike the offenders, police spokseman Anthony Gugleilmi said. Hundreds of officers are not assigned to the case. The gang who ambushed the officer may be the same gang that fired at a Chicago police van last year, he said.

[RADIOSHABELLE] Three miners were killed and one injured by al-Shabaab ... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda... murderous Moslems at a quarry in Mandera county in northeast Kenya on Thursday, an official confirmed on Friday.
Northeastern regional coordinator Mohamud Saleh said the murderous Moslems stormed the Shimbir Fatuma Quarry, about 65 kilometers from the Kenya-Somalia border, where the miners were living, on Thursday evening.
"Reports from the scene of an incident is that three were confirmed dead and one injured person is currently at Shimpir Fatuma health center while some are yet to be established where they are," Saleh said.
He said two of the workers escaped with gunshot wounds. The quarry workers seemed to have defied government orders to vacate the area following increased cases of al-Shabaab attacks in the restive region that borders Somalia
Two miners were killed by the militia in a similar incident a year go after they apparently sneaked back to the quarry in Mandera sub-county following a security operation.
The authorities in 2015 ordered all quarries in Mandera County near the Somali border be closed and all workers to vacate the places due to terror threats. The directive came after the murder of 14 quarry workers.

[Libya Observer] Seven fighters have been killed and six others maimed from the eastern forces of the self-styled army led by Khalifa Haftar ...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all... in renewed festivities southern Derna with fighters from Derna Shura Council, local media reported a medical source from the field hospital in Qubba district.

In the meantime, the front man for the Derna Shura Council, Mohammed al-Mansouri said they were able to foil the attack and to shell locations for Haftar's forces by heavy artillery fire.
"Derna attack has not been given the go-ahead yet. Our forces are well-prepared for it." The front man for the self-styled army in east Libya, Ahmed al-Mismari, said in a presser Wednesday.
He explained that "liberation of Derna" is looming.

The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ... Ansarullah movement.
Hadi loyalists have accused the UAE of abandoning an initial cause of fighting the Houthis, saying Emirati forces are instead providing support to those seeking a separation of southern Yemen territories from the north of the country.

[PRESSTV] Israeli forces have fired live rounds at Paleostinians during anti-occupation protests and festivities along the border between the besieged Gazoo Strip and occupied territories.
Medical sources said at least 82 people were shot and maimed, three of them critically, and over 800 more were treated for gas inhalation and other injuries along the Gazoo side of the 40-kilometer border fence.
Paleostinian youths reportedly rolled burning tires to within 500 meters of the fence, using the smoke as a screen to counter Israeli sharpshooters on the other side.

The Arabic service of Russia’s Sputnik news agency reported that Syrian army troopers launched a clean-up operation in the southern part of Homs, located 162 kilometers (101 miles) north of the capital Damascus, and uncovered a huge cache of ammunition and explosives, where were meant to be distributed among anti-government holy warriors groups.
Elsewhere in al-Hajar al-Aswad city, located just four kilometers south of Damascus, Syrian soldiers found Israeli-made weapons stashed inside a network of secret underground tunnels.
This is not the first time that Syrian government forces have made such findings from terrorists' hideouts across the war-ravaged Arab country.
On April 3, Syrian troops carried out operations in the villages of al-Salihiyah, al-Dweir, al-Kishma and Sabikhan in the country’s eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr near the border with Iraq, and discovered Israeli-built chemical substances, kabooms and weapons there.

[AnNahar] Syrian rebels on Friday were surrendering their heavy weapons after reaching a new deal with the government for a central swathe of territory, a war monitor said.
Opposition fighters agreed with regime forces and their allies to a ceasefire deal earlier this week for parts of Syria's central provinces of Hama and Homs, including the rebel towns of Talbisseh, Rastan, and al-Houla.
"The fighters are handing over their heavy and intermediate weapons to Russian and regime forces for the second consecutive day," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group said.
It included artillery and machine guns, said Rami Abdel Rahman, the head of the Britannia-based Observatory.
"Once the handovers are finished, the rebels who want to leave will be evacuated out with civilians," Abdel Rahman told AFP.
Rebels and civilians will be granted safe passage to the rebel-held town of Jarabulus, in Aleppo province, and the neighbouring province of Idlib which largely escapes government control, according to state news agency SANA.
It said the deal also provided for the return of government institutions to the three towns and the reopening of a key highway.
That highway runs from the capital Damascus, through Homs, and onto second city Aleppo, in the north. Securing it has been a major target for the regime's military operations.
The area in Homs was part of a "de-escalation zone" agreed one year ago by opposition supporter The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund.... and regime allies Iran and Russia.
The four zones initially saw a reduction in shelling but violence has since escalated.
One of them, Eastern Ghouta, was recaptured last month by the Syrian government after a blistering two-month offensive that ended in forced evacuations of rebels and civilians there.
Jaish al-Izza, one rebel faction present in the Homs zone, has said it rejects the agreement and pledged to remain deployed on its front lines.
The agreement comes after several days of intermittent festivities and regime reinforcements to the area.
It is the third such transfer deal for Homs province, after thousands were bussed out in a pair of agreements for the city itself.
Such negotiated withdrawals have brought swathes of territory back under government control during the country's seven-year war, most recently near Damascus.

Another evacuation deal was underway on Friday in rebel-held areas south of the capital.
SANA reported buses were entering the towns of Yalda, Babila, and Beit Saham to take opposition fighters and civilians north to rebel territory.
It was the second day of transfers for the towns. Around 1,650 people, including rebels and civilians, were bussed out on Thursday and reached northern Syria the following morning, according to the Observatory.

[Rudaw] The YPG announced they have killed a man in Afrin who was working with Ottoman Turkish forces to settle Syrians from elsewhere in the country in homes abandoned by the local Kurdish population.
According to the YPG, the Kurdish armed force in Rojava, Jamal al-Zakhlool "was forcing Afrin residents to flee their homes and was placing [Free Syrian Army ... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund... ] Death Eaters and their families in the abandoned homes."
The YPG said that Zakhlool was coordinating with Ottoman Turkish intelligence (MIT) officials and was responsible for "establishing internal security forces, civilian administration and courts in occupied Afrin."
They allege he had been enforcing Sharia law in the canton.
According to Hediye Yusuf, a founding member of the self-declared Democratic Federal System of Northern Syria (Rojava), Zakhlool was formerly a police chief in Eastern Ghouta and his wife was killed alongside him on Thursday.
Publishing graphic photos on Friday of a deceased man they said was Zakhlool, the YPG said their forces killed him and three others in an operation on Thursday.
"Our forces will target all the elements in the Afrin Canton that are in contact or cooperation with the Ottoman Turkish invasion state," the YPG threatened.

Turkey declared it was in full control of the canton two months later. The YPG announced they would continue the fight, launching a guerrilla-style war.
At least 137,000 civilians remain displaced and unable to return to their homes. Hundreds of rebels and their families evacuated from the Eastern Ghouta area have been resettled in Afrin.
Turkey has been accused of demographic change.
Turkey, however, has blamed the YPG and PYD for forcing the people out of their homes and has claimed that Afrin civilians are now returning home.

It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey... said that 4,379 "terrorists" had been "neutralized" in Afrin. Turkey uses the term "neutralized" to refer to those killed, maimed, or otherwise removed from the battle field.
