The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said Thursday that the Arclight airstrike was carried out in Pacher Agam district.

The Defense Ministry further added that 6 loyalists of the terror group were also maimed in the Arclight airstrike without giving further information if the strike was carried out by the Afghan Air Force or the US forces based in Afghanistan.

30 Civilians Die In Kunduz Operation
Guess they're gonna let Gawd sort 'em out.
Kunduz Governor Assadullah Omarkhail confirmed late Thursday night that close to 30 civilians were killed and dozens wounded in the joint Afghan and U.S military operation in the Boz Kandahari area in Kunduz overnight Wednesday.

Omarkhail said that among the dead were children and a three-month-old baby.

He also said 28 Taliban fighters had been killed - an increase in the earlier toll of 14.

Earlier Thursday night, the presidential palace issued a statement that said during the military operation insurgents infiltrated residential areas and used people as human shields.

"President (Ashraf) Ghani was shocked after hearing the news of the civilian death toll and directed the security and defense officials and Kunduz governor to take all necessary steps during operations to prevent civilian casualties," the statement read.

The statement noted that Ghani has assigned a task team to probe the incident.

"The president also ordered Kunduz governor and other relevant security and civilian officials to ensure the delivery of necessary aid to the families of victims and make sure the best treatment is made available to those injured in the incident," the statement added.

At least 14 insurgents were killed in joint operations overnight Wednesday. The operations included airstrikes by foreign forces.

Ministry of Defense spokesman Dawlat Waziri confirmed earlier that three Afghan commandos and two U.S Special Forces were also killed in the military operation.

He said that a further seven commandos and two special forces members were wounded during the operation.

Resolute Support also confirmed the death of two of their service members.

Ghani shocked at death toll in Kunduz
Taking a page from Obammer's playbook: "He just read about it in the press, like everyone else. As soon as he finds out which government did this, heads will roll!"
Amid growing concerns over civilian casualties in the latest Kunduz military operation, the presidential palace on Thursday night said in a statement that during a military operation on Wednesday night insurgents infiltrated residential areas and used people as human shields in the Boz Kandahari area of Kunduz leaving a number of women and children dead and wounded.

Kunduz police have so far confirmed three dead.

"President Ghani was shocked after hearing the news of the civilian death toll and directed the security and defense officials and Kunduz governor to take all necessary steps during operations to prevent civilian casualties," the statement read.

The statement noted that Ghani has assigned a task team to probe the incident in order to implement the law against those who committed this inhumane act.

"The president also ordered Kunduz governor and other relevant security and civilian officials to ensure the delivery of necessary aid to the families of victims and make sure the best treatment is made available to those injured in the incident," the statement added.

Meanwhile, former president Hamid Karzai has also condemned foreign troops for conducting air strikes on Afghan villages and towns.

"Former president has once again raised his deep concerns over the fatalities among the civilians in the result of air strikes carried out by the foreign forces where a number of women and children were killed," the statement read.

"The former president reiterated that any attack under any pretext on villages and homes of Afghans is not acceptable," the statement said.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the number of civilian casualties in the area is much higher than the figure being announced by the security and government officials.

Security officials in the northern province of Kunduz said Thursday that the Afghan special forces and their foreign counterparts inflicted massive casualties to the Taliban insurgents after killing fourteen of them including a top commander.

At least 14 insurgents were killed in joint operations between Afghan special commandos and foreign troops' airstrikes in northern Kunduz province on Wednesday night, police 808 Spinzar zone said in a statement earlier Thursday.

The operations and airstrikes were launched in Kandahari, Alchin, Mullah Sardar, Kalta Tay, Hazrat Sultan villages in Kunduz.

Ministry of Defense spokesman Dawlat Waziri confirmed Thursday that three Afghan commandos and two U.S Special Forces were killed in the military operation in Kunduz.

He said that a further seven commandos and two special forces members were wounded during the operation.

Resolute Support also confirmed the death of two of their service members.

In a press release issued Thursday afternoon RS commander in Afghanistan, Gen. John W. Nicholson, said: "Despite today's tragic event, we are steadfast in our commitment to help our Afghan partners defend their nation."

He said the service members came under fire during a train, advise and assist mission with Afghan partners to clear a Taliban position and disrupt the group's operations in Kunduz district in Kunduz province.

Meanwhile a number of residents in Kunduz have said that more than twenty civilians were killed during the operation. But local officials have rejected the claims.

"All of the victims were women and children and there was no Taliban," said a resident of Kunduz.

"They come to the village and took some pictures, but casualties are much higher," said another resident.

Speaking on the civilian casualty toll in Kunduz, Brigadier General Charles Cleveland, Deputy Chief of Staff for Communication, Resolute Support said: "As part of an Afghan operation, friendly forces received direct fire and airstrikes were conducted to defend themselves. We take all allegations of civilian casualties very seriously."

Over 100 dead in new migrant tragedy, second wreck feared
[DAWN] At least 110 people are feared to have drowned off Libya when a migrant boat capsized, and more may have died in another stricken vessel, the UN's refugee agency said Thursday, citing survivor testimony.

"A vessel with around 140 people on board overturned Wednesday just a few hours after setting off from Libya, throwing everyone into the water. Only 29 people survived," UNHCR spokesperson Carlotta Sami told AFP.

The Norwegian vessel Siem Pilot was first on the scene, some 20 nautical miles off Libya, and rescued the survivors - all of whom were in poor condition after spending hours in the water - and recovered 12 bodies.

Those pulled to safety were transferred to the island of Lampedusa by the Italian coasties.

In what could be a second incident, which could not be immediately confirmed by the coasties, two women told the UN agency they believed they were the only survivors in an disaster in which some 125 people drowned.

"They told us they were on a faulty dinghy which began to sank as soon as they set sail. They were the only survivors," Sami said.

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) quoted the same survivors but put the total corpse count at around 240 people.

"Not enough has been done so far to avoid these tragedies," intoned Flavio di Giacomo, IOM front man in Italia.

LNA prepares to defend oil crescent from attack
[Libya Herald] The Libyan National Army is strengthening its forces at the Ras Lanuf, Sidra and Zueitina oil terminals and a number of oilfields in Jufra district according to sources close to the LNA.

The move follows claims, largely from pro-LNA media, that the acting defence minister in Government of National Accord, Al-Mahdi Al-Barghathi, is busy mobilising his own forces to retake the oilfields and terminals. These forces are said to comprise fighters from Misrata, from the pro-Islamist Benghazi Defence Brigades (BDB) (specifically those under Mustafa Al-Sharksi, Ziyad Belam, Ismail Salabi and Muftah Hamza) and those still loyal to Ibrahim Jadhran.

“The LNA are making preparations for this,” the source told the Libya Herald, “but the details are not being announced yet”.

The LNA’s belief that Barghathi is about to make a move follows his arrival three days ago at Jufra airbase between Waddan and Hun, supposedly to make preparations for a counter-offensive.

He is also reported to have said that he intended to move a number of defence ministry operations out of Tripoli to the airbase.

Yesterday, stating that the LNA was closely monitoring the situation, its spokesman Colonel Ahmed Mismari claimed that in any event it already controlled the entire south of the country “from Waw An-Namus down to the Murzuk region and even the Sudanese-Egyptian border”. It would, he insisted, be ready to deal with any emergency in Jufra.

Such claims, however, have been contested by the Misratans who have denied having any plans to mobilise and move against the Jufra fields.

The spokesman of the Third Force, Mohammed Egliwan has said that the road from Jufra to Sebha is secure and in their hands.

Without the Misratans, still heavily preoccupied in Sirte, any chance of military success on the part of Barghathi against the LNA would be highly unlikely. The BDB was forced to retreat in the summer when it attempted an offensive against Benghazi.

Saudi soldiers killed in Yemen retaliatory attack on Najran
[Iran Press TV] Yemen’s Saleh army and Houthi Popular Committees have killed several Saudi troops in the kingdom’s southern province of Najran, in retaliation for Riyadh's aggression against its impoverished neighboring country.

According to a Yemen's Arabic-language al-Masirah news channel, the Yemeni forces launched a rocket attack on the Saudi al-Sadis military camp, inflicting fatal injuries on a number of Saudi soldiers and heavily damaging the base on Thursday.

In another rocket attack, the Yemeni troops also managed to destroy at least three Hummer military vehicles used by the Saudis in the province's Nahouqa and Hamr districts, killing their crew.

The Yemeni forces also managed to destroy two other Saudi military vehicles in the Sirwah district of Yemen’s central province of Ma'rib, kill all of their occupants.

2 more Hindu temples vandalised in Jessore, Barisal
[Dhaka Tribune] In the wave of attacks on Hindu temples and their houses across the country, unknown people vandalised two temples and desecrated idols in two districts in the last 24 hours.
File under "Living with Moslems"
In Barisal, five idols were damaged by miscreants at the Central Hori Sobha Temple in Banaripara Bazar area early Thursday, reports our Barisal correspondent.

Eyewitness Renuka Debnath said: "Some masked men entered the temple around 6:15am and vandalised the idols with crowbars before the leaving the place in around five minutes."

Vivekananda Kundu, president of the temple management committee, said that they had never witnessed such communal attack since the temple was established 60 years ago.

He urged the law enforcers to tighten security in the area to avoid further attacks.

A case was filed over the incident. OC Ziaul Ahsan of Banaripara police said that they were trying to arrest the attackers.

Superintend of Police SM Akhtaruzzaman visited the area around 11am.

In Jessore town, two youths were caught red handed after they vandalised four to five idols of Dashpara Kali Temple around 10pm Wednesday.

Police later tossed in the calaboose
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
the duo ‐ Shamim, son of Abdul Barek from Dharmotola of the town, and Jasim Hawlader, son of Tipu Hawlader of Sujolpur area in the town ‐ and filed a case against them, reports our Jessore correspondent.

OC of sadar police Ilias Hossain claimed that the youths were drug addicts. They first attacked the priest of the temple, Sadhon Kumar Paul, and then vandalised the idols as Sadhon tried to resist them.

Locals rushed to the spot after hearing screams, nabbed the duo, and handed them over to the police. SI Aurun Kumar filed the case.

The OC said that additional police were deployed in the area.

On October 30, at least 19 Hindu temples and Puja pavilions in Brahmanbaria, Habiganj and Gopalganj districts were vandalised over allegations of disrespect shown to Islam on Facebook by a youth. More than 100 people were also injured in the attacks.

Europe
Austria Sends Troops to Hungary-Serbia Border
[AnNahar] Austria on Thursday sent 60 troops to Hungary's border with non-EU Serbia as Vienna's defense minister warned that the EU's migrants colonists deal with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
was "showing cracks."

Austria's defense ministry said that the soldiers will not be armed or be involved in intercepting people making it past Hungary's border fence with Serbia.

Hungary has been criticized by rights groups and others for its alleged mistreatment of refugees and its refusal to take in some of the huge numbers of refugees who arrived in Europe in 2015.

Based at Hodmezovasarhely near Szeged in south-east Hungary initially for six months, the Austrian soldiers are sappers who will help build roads and erect containers.

Defense Minister Hans Peter Doskozil said that EU countries needed to do more to protect their borders because the bloc's accord with Turkey risked unraveling.

"In my opinion the cracks in this accord are starting to show," Doskozil told Oe1 public radio. "We have a time window in Europe in which to organize ourselves" before the deal collapses, he said. "Therefore it is right, and high time, that... EU member states recognize this and confront this challenge, deal with the problem themselves and be ready to act themselves."

Under the EU-Turkey deal in force since March, Ankara agreed to take back migrants colonists who made it to Greece in return for being allowed to send Syrians to the bloc in an orderly redistribution program.

However Greece has been slow to send migrants colonists back to Turkey. Athens says this is because many have applied for asylum which means that they cannot be moved until the claims are processed.

In addition Greece complains that the EU has failed to provide additional assistance as promised and to share enough of the thousands of migrants colonists around the bloc.

Athens wants to transfer some of the nearly 16,000 migrants colonists on its islands to the mainland but faces opposition from EU partners who fear a mass resurgence of migrants colonists heading north, Greek migration minister Yannis Mouzalas said Monday.

Syrian held in Germany got Islamic State instructions for attack

[Ynet] A Syrian man arrested in Berlin is suspected of belonging to ISIS and having received ISIS instructions from Syria to carry out an attack in Germany, the Federal Prosecutor's Office said on Thursday.

Police said on Wednesday that the man, identified by the prosecutor's office only as 27-year-old Ashraf Al-T, had been living in Germany since last year. He was arrested in an apartment in Berlin's Schoeneberg district.

Syrian convicted in Germany after throwing kids out window

[Ynet] A Syrian asylum-seeker has been convicted of three counts of attempted murder for throwing his children out of the window of a refugee home in Germany. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Prosecutors say he threw the three children out of a second-floor window of the facility in February as a way to punish his wife because she refused to obey him after the family moved to Germany.

The dpa news agency says the 35-year-old Syrian, identified only as Hassan Z. in line with German privacy laws, was convicted Thursday at the Bonn state court.

The children -- aged 1, 5 and 7 at the time -- survived but the mother says the two oldest are still experiencing health problems from the fall.

Three Germans jailed for joining Islamist militants in Syria

[AlAhram] A German court on Thursday jailed three young German men for up to four and half years for travelling to Syria where they teamed up with Islamist militants.

Fadil Rudolf S., 26, who received the longest prison term, had first travelled to Syria to join the Sunni militia group Junud al-Sham and in 2013 joined fighters of the Islamic State (IS) militants.

"After his first return to Germany, he once again made himself available as a fighter for the IS over several weeks in July 2014," the court in the western city of Duesseldorf said in a statement. "Later in January and in the summer of 2015, he also sought twice to travel to Syria to join the IS."

The other men, 24-year-old Mohamed A. and 26-year-old Mustafa P., were sentenced to two years and nine months for involvement in Junud al-Sham for several months in 2013.

"The confessions of the accused had a mitigating effect on their sentences," the court statement said.

According to figures released in May by German intelligence services, 820 Islamist militants have left Germany for Syria and Iraq. Almost a third have returned and 140 were killed while abroad, while around 420 are still in Syria or Iraq.

Last buses leave Calais ‘Jungle’ with women, children

[IsraelTimes] 291 refugees hoping to reach Britain agree to be rehoused in France rather than be deported. The transfers end a 10-day operation to clear the camp on France’s north coast, where more than 6,000 migrants — mostly Afghans, Sudanese and Eritreans — had been living in miserable conditions.

Yet less than 300 kilometers (180 miles) from Calais, around 2,000 migrants are living in similar conditions on the streets of Paris. Authorities are expected to soon clear the camp under a railway bridge in the French capital’s northeastern Stalingrad district.

India-Pakistan
Nine Al Qaeda suspects killed in encounter
[DAWN] LAHORE: Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of police claimed on Wednesday to have killed nine Al Qaeda turbans in an encounter in Sheikhupura in wee hours of Wednesday after raiding their hideout.

A CTD front man said they received a tip-off that some turbans were hiding in Kheroki Malian, Sheikhupura, to launch attacks on police personnel and offices of sensitive agencies in and around Lahore.

He said a police team raided the place around 1am to arrest the suspects, making announcements asking them to surrender.

He said the suspects, who were in two to three small groups, started firing at CTD personnel. He said the CTD personnel returned the fire in self-defence. When the firing stopped, the personnel found nine bad boys, yet to be identified, lying dead.

The CTD claimed the suspects were killed in firing by their own accomplices.

The front man said some four to five suspects expeditiously departed at a goodly pace taking benefit of darkness.

He said the CTD team searched the bad boys’ hideout and recovered six kilograms of kaboom, prima cord, four Kalashnikovs, five pistols, as many cycle of violences and bullets.

The team later also launched a search operation in and around Sheikhupura to arrest the fleeing suspects.

The Beatings Will Continue: Iraqi Edtion

76 families return to Ninevah

(IraqiNews.com) Mosul – Camps for internally-displaced Iraqis have received 750 internally-displaced people from the city of Mosul, the stage of decisive battles between Iraqi joint forces and the Islamic State extremist militant group, the commander of the security operation said Wednesday.

Lt. Gen. Abdel Amir Yarallah said 76 displaced families from the city have now returned home from Jadaa camp. “Anti-terrorism forces will continue to clear houses and roads off IEDs in Kokajli, preparing for the next battle,” he said in a statement obtained by Alsumaria News.

Since October 17th, Iraqi army and police forces, US-led coalition forces, Shia militias and Kurdish troops have been on a decisive battle, code named “We Are Coming, Nineveh”, to liberate the city of Mosul, IS’s last stronghold in Iraq. UN estimates had put the number of civilians who would be displaced in process at more than one million.

On field, Badr Organization, one of the major Shia paramilitary forces fighting within the grand operation, said Wednesday that four more villages had been liberated at Nineveh province, reporting the killing of two IS fighters, who were boarding booby-trapped vehicles, and defusing 18 IEDs.

The organization’s media wing said in a statement that Badr had freed the villages of Abu Shwaiha, Kokh, Abu Fashka and Khweitla and gave out aid to their families.

“There is slow and cautious progress so as to protect civilians’ lives. Forces are 4 kilometers away from the Mahlabiya road which links Mosul with Tal Afar,” the statement said.

Abdul-Ghani al-Assadi, commander of Iraq’s anti-terrorism forces, said Wednesday that his forces were facing a “guerrilla war” in Mosul. While Assadi urged locals to stay home, he ruled out that Islamic State fighters would use them as human shields.

“Media have circulated the term ‘human shields, but Daesh cannot use that technique, but if they do, we have the methods that could force them to release our people,” he told Alsumaria TV.

Baghdadi calls for attacks on Turkey

(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – Islamic State’s supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s call upon supporters to launch attacks in Turkey is a cover-up for potential Turkish incursions in the city of Mosul, said Hakim al-Zamili, chairman of the Iraqi parliament’s security and defense committee.

Baghdadi’s call to attack Turkey in an audio message released late Wednesday is “a regional intelligence cover-up for Turks’ entrance to Mosul,” Zamili said in a press interview. “That incursion will be under the pretext of fighting terrorism before it extends to Turkish soil,” he argued.

Iraq and Turkey have been in tensions recently due to the deployment of Turkish troops at Bashiqa Camp, Nineveh. While Turkey says it trains locals to fight against the Islamic State, the government in Baghdad contends that the deployment occurred without its permission, labeling it a violation of international law.

In the voice message, Baghdadi urged his fighters to be resilient in face of Iraqi troops seeking to strip the militant group of its last Iraqi bastion in Mosul, and called upon his supporters to unleash their anger” on Turkish forces fighting them in Syria.

Meanwhile, Atheel al-Nujaifi, a former governor of Nineveh, and the commander of “Nineveh Guards” forces, said that while Baghdadi urges his fighters to stand still and fight back, buses have been carrying ISIS fighters families from Mosul to Syria.

“Baghdadi’s speech yesterday was that of a desperate mad man,” Nujaifi wrote on twitter.

(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – Islamic State supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has urged his fighters to be resilient in face of Iraqi troops seeking to strip the militant group of its last Iraqi bastion in Mosul.

In an audio clip released by his supporters on the internet, the first since the security offensive began mid October, Baghdadi stressed that the group’s “Caliphate” project has not stumbled.

“Do not retreat … Holding your ground with honor is a thousand times easier than retreating in shame,” he said in the audio message, the authenticity of which could not be verified.

“The raging battle, the all-out war and the grand Jihad the state of Islam is going through today only strengthens our faith and confidence that it is all a prelude to a clear victory.”

Baghdadi urged his supporters to launch attacks against Turkey and Saudi Arabia. He told his militants to “Unleash their anger” on Turkish forces fighting them in Syria. He also called upon them to target Saudi royal family members, government officials and security forces, accusing them of “partaking with infidel nations in their war against Islam and Sunnis in Iraq and Syria.”

Baghdadi’s last voice message was made in December, when he assured his troops that Russian and US-led coalition airstrikes in Syria had failed to weaken the group

Hundred flee ISIS shelling in Kokajli

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – Hundreds of families started to flee Kokajli, east of Mosul, towards the borders with Iraqi Kurdistan fearing artillery shelling by Islamic State fighters, Al Sumaria News reported on Thursday.

Al Sumaria quoted the migrating citizens as saying they would return to their homes once Iraqi forces advance to the city and relieve the danger from their area.

Iraqi government forces, assisted by al-Hashd al-Shaabi troops and US-led coalition forces, continue to advance towards Mosul, Islamic State’s last bastion in Iraq. The operations have dealt ISIS fighters severe losses, according to campaign commanders, with the group reportedly carrying its wounded militants and families outside the city while facing food shortages.

ISIS supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi urged his fighters in a voice message on Wednesday to remain resilient in face of the assaulting forces.

The United Nations and the United States had predicted more than one million civilians to be internally displaced due to the war in Mosul.

Commanders of operation “We Are Coming, Nineveh”, had said that 76 families had returned to their homes in Nineveh.

More on Order 227, ISIS Edition from al-Arabiya
ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has called on his fighters to resist as Iraqi forces were poised to enter the city of Mosul. “Do not retreat,” said a voice presented as belonging to the leader of ISIS in an audio message released early Thursday by the ISIS-affiliated Al-Furqan media.

“Holding your ground with honor is a thousand times easier than retreating in shame,” he said in the message, his first in more than a year. “To all the people of Nineveh, especially the fighters, beware of any weakness in facing your enemy,” Baghdadi said, referring to the northern Iraqi province of which Mosul is the capital.

Rumors have abounded about the leader’s health and movements but his whereabouts are unclear. ISIS control has been shrinking steadily since last year and Iraqi forces earlier this week reached Mosul, the militants’ last major stronghold in Iraq.

The US-led coalition estimates there are 3,000 to 5,000 IS fighters inside the city but the final outcome of the battle appears to be in little doubt. Tens of thousands of Iraqi forces, backed by the US-led coalition and its warplanes, launched a massive offensive on Mosul on October 17.

Iraqi militia cut Raqqa-Mosul highway
No switchlines for you, Baghdadi
(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – Al-Hashed al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units) have managed to cut the route between Mosul and the Syrian city of Raqqa, both the main strongholds for the self-proclaimed Islamic State, according to a parliament member.

The Shia militia, fighting IS by the side of Iraqi government forces, managed on Wednesday to cut the road between the two cities as battles intensify to liberate Mosul from IS fighters, said Abdulaziz Hassan, a member of the parliament’s Defense and Security Committee. “That is a significant step,” he said.

The security and defense committee has not detected any violations by al-Hashed al-Shaabi in Mosul operations so far, according to Hassan. The United Nations and observers had warned against violations against the citizens of Mosul after the anticipated liberation of the city.

Commenting on Turkish fears of al-Hashed al-Shaabi’s participation in Mosul’s invasion, Hassan said:” al-Hashed al-Shaabi and Peshmerga forces are not going into Mosul, and the general command of the armed forces had assigned tasks for all forces.” He added that Turkish forces “had entered Iraq without our permission, which is a violation of international law.”

Tensions have soared recently between Turkey and Iraq, with the latter accusing Ankara of deploying its forces in Bashiqa, Nineveh, without permission. Ankara has been training locals in Nineveh to engage in fights against the Islamic State, insisting that it would not leave the battle against IS in Iraq.

Mishan al-Jabbouri, an MP from Salahuddin province, voiced Wednesday to Alsumaria TV his concerns of a possible “encounter” between al-Hashed al-Shaabi and Turkish troops in Bashiqa. He urged al-Hashed forces to settle their disagreements with Turks in Tal Afar.

Sandstorm hits Mosul operations

Baghdad- A sandstorm lashed two days ago in Mosul and ISIS militants considered it a divine message to boost their morals and blur the vision of Iraqi forces.

However, the storm faded soon and rain washed away the dust and sand.

Governor of Mosul Ahmed al-Jabouri said, “A sandstorm hit Mosul on Tuesday and caused a blurred vision—ISIS fighters announced through speakers that this storm is sent by God… Then it rained, the dust was washed away, the sky was clear and ISIS became a joke.”

As the Iraqi Army started to advance towards the neighborhoods of Mosul, the Iraqi Ministry of Displacement and Migration revealed that a new migration wave occurred, which raised concerns over unlimited number of besieged civilians fleeing from the city.

In the same context of collective migration, Minister of Displacement and Migration Jassim Mohammed al-Jaf said in a statement on Wednesday that the “ministry has transported more than 3,000 migrants from Nineveh regions to camps.”

“The total of displaced reached 19,528 since the launching of battles to liberate Nineveh… The ministry teams are distributing humanitarian aid and providing basic needs to the camps,” said Jaf.

“The post ISIS phase is the real test for political leaders in Iraq on which choice they want to support, the construction of the state or the reinforcement of the non-state… Liberating Mosul from ISIS should be a turning point to restructure the state and its powers or else the grudge over deterioration of conditions will increase,” MP Noura al-Salemi told Asharq al-Awsat.

Salemi added that liberating Mosul is a golden chance for Iraqi parties to rebuild the state and community on new political and constitutional bases. “Previous faults can’t be overcome via adopting the same policy,” she stated.

for a 2015 Molotov cocktail attack that injured a three-year old girl north of Jerusalem.

The Shin Bet announced Thursday that three individuals have been arrested in connection with an October 2015 Molotov cocktail attack that maimed a three-year-old girl north of Jerusalem.

43-year-old Khaled Badhe, a resident of the Kadura refugee camp in Ramallah, 34-year-old Lu’ie Namer of the el-Amri refugee camp, also in Ramallah, and 27-year-old Abed al-Majid Badra of Bitunia were detained in recent weeks by a joint operation of Shin Bet, Israel Police and IDF forces.

A spokesperson for the Shin Bet said in a statement that the Molotov cocktail incident was one of a series of terror attacks committed by the suspects in the area.

Also Thursday, the Jerusalem district prosecutor indicted 20-year-old Murad Hajbi on two counts of attempted murder and possession of a weapon. The indictment, which was filed in the Jerusalem District Court, says Hajbi left his home in the Silwan neighborhood on October 19 and tried to run over two Orthodox Jews on Hebron Road. One man was maimed in the attack, and Hajbi then stabbed the second man in the face before being neutralized.

Prosecutors have asked the court to extend Hajbi’s remand until the completion of all legal proceedings against him.

In addition, a Paleostinian man was arrested at the entrance to the Shuafat refugee camp when security forces found a cache of weapons in his car, including a weapons belt, combat goggles and tear gas.

The man was detained for questioning.

[IsraelTimes] An IDF soldier was lightly maimed in his knee Thursday night in a shooting attack at a checkpoint near the West Bank city of Tulkarem. Medics treated him at the site. According to initial reports, he was struck in the knee by ricocheting bullets.

Security forces located the source of the fire, the IDF said. Several shell casings were found at the scene. Troops have launched a manhunt for the suspected shooter.

Earlier Thursday, authorities reported a suspected drive-by shooting at the guard post outside the settlement of Ofra, which lies northeast of Ramallah. Nobody was injured in the incident.

Also Thursday, IDF troops foiled an attempted stabbing attack by a Paleostinian assailant near Ofra, the army said. The assailant was rubbed out at the scene. The Paleostinian, carrying a knife, approached the servicemen near a bus stop outside the settlement, where the soldiers had been standing guard. Southeast Asia
Three killed in 19 attacks across southern Thailand
[Khaosod] Jittraporn Banjong was near the checkout counter when two men with covered faces entered the 7-Eleven where she was working. They fired a gunshot and told everyone to get down before pouring gasoline all over. The four employees escaped through the back door just as the fire spread through the convenience store at a gas station in Pattani province. They later learned the attackers placed an improvised explosive device in front of the gas station to attack responding authorities.

The arson and bombing was among 19 similar attacks to strike three southern provinces Wednesday night, killing three people and wounding five others. In addition to military and police targets, many of the attacks targeted infrastructure such as utility poles.

Not far from the convenience store were 13 representatives of the junta's interim cabinet, who had arrived earlier for unprecedented, high-level talks with local religious leaders about the ongoing peace talks and economic development in the region.

A spokesman for the Internal Security Operations Command, a special military unit that answers only to the prime minister, dismissed a link between the attacks and the Bangkok delegation’s visit. Col. Peerawat Sangthong said, "There was nothing to indicate it was because of the visit."

Among the three killed Wednesday night were two security guards at an automobile showroom in Songkhla province. They were gunned down by militants who then bombed the building. Another blast reportedly hit the showroom again Thursday morning. No one was hurt.

The third to die was a soldier who was shot when four gunmen on two motorcycles opened fire on a military facility in Pattani province.

In Pattani, 12 attacks hit targets including a military facility, utility poles and police box. Six blasts hit Songkhla’s Thepha and Chana districts, and one explosion was reported on a road in Narathiwat's Bacho district.

Swiss prosecutors find evidence of spying at Iran nuclear talks
[IsraelTimes] Cybersecurity firms had intimated Israel was behind hacking attack on 2015 Geneva negotiations

Swiss authorities suspended an 18-month investigation into suspected cyber-spying during international talks on Iran’s nuclear program last year, saying they have turned up criminal wrongdoing but haven’t found out who was behind it.

The office of Attorney General Michael Lauber said the investigation prompted by a report from Swiss intelligence authorities turned up malware "developed for the purposes of espionage" to scoop up data on many computers at a Geneva hotel. The talks in question took place at the President Wilson hotel.

Kaspersky, a Russian-based cybersecurity firm, announced at the time that it had uncovered the campaign, saying the malware was so sophisticated that a government must have created it.

Suspicion turned toward Israel at one point, after Kaspersky said that malware code dubbed Duqu, which, according to the Wall Street Journal, is believed to be used by Israeli spies, also appeared to have been used to spy on the nuclear talks.

The malware allows the hacker to eavesdrop on conversations and steal electronic files, and could also enable the hacker to operate two-way microphones in hotel elevators, computers and alarm systems.

The Journal quoted "current and former US officials and many cybersecurity experts (as believing that) Duqu was designed to carry out Israel’s most sensitive intelligence-collection operations."

Kaspersky never implicated Israel by name in its report on the Geneva talks. But it did conclude the threat in that case came from the same source as the original Duqu virus, and said it was likely carried out by a nation-state.

After the launch of the investigation, Israel denied its secret services were involved. In an interview with Israel’s Army Radio, Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely insisted there was "no basis" to reports of Israel’s involvement.

Israeli Deputy Defense Minister Eli Ben-Dahan also flatly rejected the allegations at the time, calling them "nonsense" in an interview with Israel Radio and saying Israel had other ways of gathering intelligence and didn’t need to resort to hacking.

Syrian forces recapture area near Damascus
[Iran Press TV] Syrian government forces have killed dozens of foreign-backed gunnies across the country in anti-terror operations, including one that fully liberated an area on the outskirts of the capital Damascus.

Syria’s official news agency SANA, citing an unnamed military source, reported that on Thursday, army units established full control over al-Taqi Mosque and its surrounding area to the north of Khan al-Shih Farms near Damascus, and killed a number of turbans and destroyed their weapons in the process.

The Syrian forces also managed to destroy a command center and a 150-meter long tunnel used by turbans to carry out attacks in Jobar neighborhood on the outskirts of the capital.

Syrian army warplanes also carried out Arclight airstrikes against terrorists’ positions in Khan Touman southwest of Aleppo, killing dozens of them. The government forces also thwarted a myrmidon attack in the vicinity of Minian village to the west of city, destroying two bomb-laden cars and killing several other myrmidons.

The Syrian jets also pounded terrorists’ positions in al-Rastan, Deir Ful, Abu al-Tababaer and Khan al-Surah near the western city of Homs, destroying a number of their vehicles. The Syrian ground troops also foiled a ISIS strike near Unq al-Hawa village, some 73 kilometers east of Homs, killing a number of turbans and inflicting injuries on some others.

al-Qaeda operative wins the Virgin Dating Game in Syria
[AlArabiya] A US drone strike in Syria last month killed an Al-Qaeda member with ties to the organization’s senior leadership, the Pentagon said Wednesday.

The October 17 strike near Idlib northwestern Syria killed Haydar Kirkan, who “was intent on plotting and carrying out attacks against the West,” Pentagon spokesman Navy Captain Jeff Davis said.

“He was a long serving and experienced courier for Al-Qaeda in Syria. He had ties to Al-Qaeda’s senior leaders to include Osama bin Laden himself, and he was Al-Qaeda’s senior external terror attack planner in Syria,” Davis said, without describing any of the purported plots.

In recent weeks, the Pentagon has targeted other Al-Qaeda members. On October 23, US drone strikes targeted two top Qaeda leaders in Afghanistan.

While officials have not confirmed any deaths, they are privately confident the strikes killed Farouq al-Qahtani, Al-Qaeda’s emir for northeastern Afghanistan, and his deputy Bilal al-Utabi.

On October 21 in Yemen, five Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) members were killed in a US air strike, including local AQAP leader Abu Hadi al-Bayhani, Davis said.

“Al-Qaeda doesn’t recognize borders when they conspire to commit terrorist attacks against the West, and we will continue to work with our partners and allies to find and destroy their leaders, their fighters and their cells that are planning attacks externally,” Davis said.

Humantarian pause used to attack in Aleppo
Sputnik
[AlManar] Terrorists used the first humanitarian pause, introduced by Moscow and Damascus in Aleppo, to launch attacks. They have shelled the city 64 times, killing 127 and wounding 254 residents during the week, according to the chief of the Russian General Staff Main Operational Directorate.

“Over the past week, terrorists fired mortars and “hellfires” [improvised cannons] 64 times at western Aleppo. The shelling killed 127 and wounded 254 civilians,” Lt. Gen. Sergei Rudskoi said Thursday. He added that on October 30, shells with toxic agents killed two Syrian servicemen and injured 37 civilians. A group of Russian experts from the radiation, chemical and biological defense units have arrived in Aleppo to take samples in the area where the chemical weapons were used, Rudskoi added.

“Making use of Russian and Syrian Air Forces’ operation moratorium, militant groups commenced active hostilities on October 28 and tried to break through into the eastern part [of Aleppo],” he said.

At the same time, militants in eastern Aleppo attempted to launch their attack in the area of a humanitarian corridor. “All of militants’ attacks were repelled. As a result, the terrorists suffered significant losses, including 21 battle tanks, 10 infantry fighting vehicles, six rocket artillery systems, 14 mortar crews, 80 cars with mounted heavy machineguns, as well as 12 car bombs driven by suicide terrorists”, Rudskoi said.

The US-backed Nour al-Din al-Zenki group in Syria does not intent to leave Aleppo, coming as no surprise to Russia, the Russian General Staff said. “The leadership of the Nour Din al-Zenki terrorist group, which is considered moderate opposition in the West, announced yesterday that troops under its control will not take the opportunity to leave eastern Aleppo and will continue an armed struggle,” Rudskoi said.

The chief of the Russian General Staff Main Operational Directorate said the announcement by the group whose members beheaded a child last summer “was not a surprise to us.”

Fighting in Aleppo, which is part of the global war on Syria, escalated in the past days after militants in the eastern neighborhoods announced an offensive and fired missiles on the government-held western part of the city.

Russia has already introduced the so-called humanitarian pause in October, to ensure the safe evacuation of civilians and unarmed militants from eastern part of the embattled city via eight designated corridors. During the humanitarian pause, al-Nusra Front terrorist group, recently renamed as Jabhat Fatah al Sham, outlawed in Russia, prevented civilians from fleeing the city, attacking them. As the evacuation failed and the humanitarian pause ended, the Syrian government launched an offensive against the militants.

More from al-Manar
The death toll from the terrorist attacks on neighborhoods in Aleppo city rose to 12 people, in addition to more than 200 others injured, including a photographer from al-Alam TV channel, SANA reporter said.

According to earlier information provided by a source at Aleppo Police Command , 5 people were killed and 46 others were injured as the terrorist organizations launched attacks on the neighborhoods of Halap al-Jadideh, al-Mogambo, al-Masharqeh and al-Furqan, where shells hit the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

Rocket shells and explosive bullets were used in the attacks, which were launched by terrorists positioned in the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo city and others in the province’s western countryside.

SANA reporter quoted the source as saying that a girl child was among the dead, and that the attacks caused material damage to public and private properties.

A medical source at al-Jamiaa (University) Hospital told the reporter that the hospital received a person suffering suffocation due to an attack on Menian, to the west of Aleppo city, in which the terrorists used poisonous gases.

Meanwhile, Mohammd Joulaq, a photographer formal-Alam TV channel, sustained slight injuries while covering the military operations carried out by the army against terrorist groups on the southwestern outskirts of Aleppo city.

Rebel moving to capture towns in northern Aleppo

[Asharq al-Aswat] Beirut – Syrian opposition fighters, who are part of Euphrates Shield operations, are trying to regain control over several towns and villages in Aleppo’s northern countryside.

Reports revealed that ISIS regained their power of attack through controlling Akhtarin town.

Free Syrian Army’s Sultan Murad Division reported that during their battle with ISIS in Aleppo countryside, 14 militants were killed and two captivated.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that ISIS advanced in Aleppo and gained control back of 17 villages including Salwa, Ghor, Thalthana, Masodia, Baraan, and Baroza in Aleppo’s northern and northeastern country sides, making further inroads into the town of Akhtarin, three weeks after initially retreating from the city, where it reported that clashes were ongoing.

A militant told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that military operations now are aimed at liberating the villages that ISIS has control over, adding that Baraan, Thalthana and Tanuza were liberated.

Salih al-Zein, field commander at the armed opposition, told ARA News that rebel fighters, participating in Turkey’s Euphrates Shield Operation, have recently taken control over a number of towns and villages in Aleppo’s countryside.

In the past 24 hours, ISIS managed to recapture ten towns in Aleppo’s northern countryside in its largest attack since the beginning of Euphrates Shield in August.

Turkey announced that its forces targeted eighty ISIS locations as part of Euphrates Shield operation.

Leader at Sham Legion Abedlilah Tlas said that ISIS militants took advantage of the rainy weather and infiltrated into Akhtarin in Aleppo’s northern countryside. He added that Free Syrian Army (FSA) managed to kill a number of them while others fled the town following fierce clashes.

Informed sources at the Syrian Democratic Force (SDF), mainly formed of Kurds, reported that ISIS terrorists attacked four axes and were able to gain control over al-Rami field as well as three hills surrounding it.

Sources reported heavy clashes near the infantry academy during which ISIS militants tried to gain control over it.

ISIS claims it shot down Russian aircraft in Homs
[ARA News] Homs – The Islamic State (ISIS) militant group on Thursday announced responsibility for shooting down a Russian warplane in Syria’s central governorate of Homs.

Local sources told ARA News that the aircraft was shot down in the Hwesis District east of Homs.

ISIS leadership said in a statement, released by the jihadi Amaq Agency, that their fighters destroyed a Russian military helicopter after targeting it with a rocket.

The jihadist news outlet also released images purportedly showing the destroyed Russian aircraft.

Meanwhile, the Russia Defense Ministry said in a statement that one of its warplanes was hit by militant shells, but didn’t provide any further details about the incident or the destiny of the plane’s crew.

ISIS militants have previously downed several warplanes over Syria.

On July 9th, two Russian pilots died near the Syrian city of Palmyra when their helicopter was shot down by ISIS fighters.

On July 22, the extremist group blew up a Syrian warplane in the Homs Governorate. The jihadi Amaq Agency released images showing a destroyed Syrian warplane, claiming that it crashed after ISIS militants hit it with a rocket. Local activists told ARA News that the warplane was struck after entering the airspace of Jib al-Jarrah District in Homs.

On September 23, ISIS claimed responsibility for shooting down a US drone that had been flying over the Iraqi-Syrian border. The drone was knocked out near Shaddadi city in Hasakah Governorate. Local sources told to ARA News that the drone crashed after being strafed with machine guns.

On September 21st, the extremist group shot down a Syrian jet in a Damascus suburb. A Syrian Army commander, at the time, told ARA News: “Shortly after taking off from the Dumair Airbase in a Damascus suburb, the warplane was targeted by terrorist fire and crashed over eastern Qalamoun.”

On October 21st, the group shot down an American warplane near the town of Margada, in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah Governorate. ISIS said it destroyed an A-10 Thunderbolt jet after riddling it with heavy machine guns.
