[Breitbart] Ahmed Alshami, owner of a Buffalo, New York deli, is being held on $2 million bail after being arraigned last week on food stamp fraud and burglary charges.
Alshami, who owns the IGA Community Express Mart along with his wife, Nadia Alhaj, was arrested on August 19 and arraigned on August 23 on charges of misuse of food stamps, third-degree burglary, and second-degree criminal possession of public benefit cards.
After his court hearing, Alshami’s daughter flipped off local reporters while his while was caught on camera yelling, "Are you happy now? F*ck you. F*ck America."
[Daily Caller] A string of violent stabbings connected to the MS-13 gang across Washington, D.C., is causing panic among residents.
Members of the Latino community in neighborhoods affected by the recent violence are speaking out on the dangers the vicious MS-13 gang, based in El Salvador, pose to the region. Residents are generally fearful to speak out about the gang, fearing retribution, which makes policing the gang difficult. Several recent stabbings connected to MS-13 are causing renewed concern among residents, reports WUSA9.
While two of the stabbings cannot be directly linked to the gang, residents are unnerved by the recent rash of violence in the city.
"I don’t know about the gang violence," Ernesteine McNeill, a resident near Columbia Heights, told WUSA9. "It’s just that there’s a lot of violence."
[NYPOST] Two people were killed and three others maimed early Monday at the J’Ouvert carnival in Brooklyn ‐ sparking pandemonium hours before the city’s annual West Indian Day Parade.
At least four people were shot and one person was stabbed despite a beefed up police presence a year after an aide to Gov. Andrew Sonny Cuomo was killed by a stray bullet at the raucous annual event.
The first shootings happened about 4 a.m. at Flatbush Avenue and Empire Boulevard in Crown Heights, where a male in his late teens or early 20s was shot in the chest and died at Kings County Hospital, sources said.
A 72-year-old woman was shot nearby as she sat on a bench, sources said. She is expected to live.
About 25 minutes later, a 22-year-old woman was shot in the eye just a block away, police sources said. She also died at a hospital.
A woman was also stabbed at Empire Boulevard and Ocean Avenue, but police said she refused medical attention.
The shootings erupted while as many as 40 cops ‐ aided by powerful lights -- were stationed only feet away, sources said.
Dozens of panicked people stampeded over each other during the chaos ‐ with dozens hurtling themselves over barricades and taking cover behind anything solid, including garbage cans and cars.

[STLOUIS.CBSLOCAL] Multiple sources are confirming to KMOX news that Phyllis Schlafly has died.
Schlafly founded the Eagle Forum in 1972, a pro-family conservative group focusing heavily on social issues -- it has about 80,000 members and, as of this week, Schlafly was still president.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in 1944 -- her masters from Radcliffe College in 1945 -- and a J.D. from Washington University in 1978.
Schlafly’s organization has been split this presidential election -- Schlafly supported Donald Trump, though many board members disagreed. She maintained her leadership of the organization.
She also fought nephew, Tom Schlafly, over the naming rights to his brewery in St. Louis. Schlafly contended her name juxtaposed with beer and libations would damage the conservative brand’s reputation. A judge disagreed.

How prophetic:
In college in 1945, Schlafly applauded the establishment of the United Nations. Over the years, however, she disdained the UN. On the 50th anniversary of the United Nations in 1995, Schlafly referred to it as "a cause for mourning, not celebration. It is a monument to foolish hopes, embarrassing compromises, betrayal of our servicemen, and a steady stream of insults to our nation. It is a Trojan Horse that carries the enemy into our midst and lures Americans to ride under alien insignia to fight and die in faraway lands." She opposed President Bill Clinton's decision in 1996 to send 20,000 American troops to Bosnia. Schlafly noted that Balkan nations have fought one another for 500 years and that the U.S. military should not be "policemen" of world trouble spots.

[SILIVE] Federal officials in New York are investigating an emergency alert system after a mistakenly truncated message about storm system Hermine wrongly advised TV watchers on Long Island of an ordered evacuation, authorities said Sunday.
The Saturday night confusion started after Suffolk County emergency officials used an aspect of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's alert system for the first time since gaining access to it after Superstorm Sandy. They had hoped to advise viewers that a voluntary evacuation had been ordered for Fire Island, a thin strip of land off of Long Island's southern shore and a popular summertime destination.
Instead, somehow only the first part of the message -- that an evacuation order had been issued -- was broadcast to viewers. That the order was voluntary and only applied to those on Fire Island didn't make it onto TV screens.
"It caused obvious and expected questioning," said Gregory Miniutto, chief of communication for Suffolk County's Department of Fire Rescue.
Lauren Lefebvre, a spokeswoman for the FEMA region that covers New York, said officials are investigating what caused the message to be shortened.

I first read that as "Mirage planes" and thought, good luck with that. 'Miraa' is another word for 'khat'.
Somalia has stopped the entry of Kenya’s miraa planes into its airspace effective Tuesday, spelling doom for the sector. Aviation minister Ali Ahmed said this on Monday without giving reasons for the decision that will stand until further notice.
“Any violation on Somali airspace and disregard of this notice will have equal consequences,” he said in a letter copied to Internal Security and the Civil Aviation Authority.
Somalia is the largest market for Kenya’s miraa; more than 16 planes carrying the plant enter Somalia every day.
Farmers had been struggling to sustain markets following miraa export bans by several European states two years ago.
President Uhuru Kenyatta announced in April that a budgetary allocation of Sh1 billion would cushion miraa growers from the challenges of the ban. The historical assent, which was witnessed by Deputy President William Ruto and Meru leaders, gave legal backing for farmers and traders to grow, harvest and sell miraa produce without any hindrances.

There must be some way to genetically engineer a plant that's just a bit more psychotropic than khat and also grows even faster than kudzu. Introducing it into the middle east and Africa would solve two problems at once...

[All Africa] The main opposition political party in Botswana has rejected King Mswati III's appointment as Chair of SADC because of the restriction on democracy in Swaziland.
The King was appointed Chair at the Southern African Development Community Summit of Heads of State at the end of August 2016.
The Botswana National Front (BNF), which is seen as the senior partner in the opposition Umbrella for Democratic Change, said in a statement, 'Currently, there is no constitutional democracy in Swaziland. Political parties remain banned in that country. King Mswati and his Queen mother Ntombi have absolute authority over the judiciary, legislature and cabinet.'
The Weekend Post newspaper in Botswana reported BNF saying, 'several trade unionists, journalists and others have been harassed, tortured, beaten, arbitrarily incarcerated You have the right to remain silent... , imprisoned and some without trial and worse some killed under mysterious circumstances with no action being taken against the known security agents.'

Hmm.. Had to look at that statement for a bit. Didn't think Botswana had a king. Nope a Prez. so the king in question is Swaziland's. That would be the king that demands thousands of nude virgins to dance topless before him so he can choose an additional wife.
In Swaziland, girls begin the rite by gathering at the Queen Mother's royal village, which currently is Ludzidzini Royal Village.[1] After arriving at the Queen Mother's royal residence, the women disperse the following night to surrounding areas and cut tall reeds. The following night, they bundle the reeds together and bring them back to the Queen Mother to be used in repairing holes in the reed windscreen surrounding the royal village.
After a day of rest and washing, the women prepare their traditional costumes consisting of a bead necklace, rattling anklets made from cocoons, a sash, and skirt. Many of them carry the bush knives, which they had earlier used to cut the reeds, as symbols of their virginity.
The women sing and dance as they parade in front of the royal family as well as a crowd of dignitaries, spectators, and tourists. After the parade, groups from select villages take to the centre of the field and put on a special performance for the crowd. The King's many daughters and royal princesses also participate in the reed dance ceremony and are distinguished by the crown of red feathers they wear in their hair.
The present form of the Reed Dance developed in the 1940s from the Umcwasho custom, where young girls were placed in age regiments to ensure their virginity.[12] Once they had reached marriageable age, they would perform labour for the Queen Mother followed by dancing and a feast. The official purpose of the annual ceremony is to preserve the women's chastity, provide tribute labour for the Queen Mother, and produce solidarity among the women through working together.[1]
[ALLAFRICA] The internet has been restored in Gabon after being cut off for five days, but social media still remains blocked, following the announcement last week of President Ali Bongo as the winner of the presidential elections, BBC reports.
The internet and social media platforms were blocked after the re-election of Bongo in a close fought presidential election that saw Bongo defeat his main opposition candidate, Jean Ping by a mere 5 000 votes.
There has been no official explanation by the government why the internet was cut off, with many TV stations choosing to broadcast anything but news on the protests happening across the country.
BBC Africa reported that there was an increasing tendency by African governments to block social media during elections, with research by the Portland Communications saying that African tweeters were more political than in other continents.

[Gateway] An Indianapolis man, identified only as Phillip, posted a Donald Trump campaign sign in his front yard recently.
He also put up a video camera and jerry-rigged the sign with fish string.
His camera caught the second attempted theft on video. A woman is seen in the footage grabbing the sign and attempting to run off with it. Unfortunately for her, she hit a snag.
Unaware the sign was attached to fishing wire, the would-be sign thief face-planted in the yard. She was then forced to flee without the Trump sign.
Phillip said people are free to disagree with his sign, but it’s his property.
[DAWN] RAW ... India's Research and Analysis Wing, Pakistain's equivalent of the Boogie Man... ALPINDI: A woman was shot, allegedly by her cousin, on her wedding day on Sunday just a few metres from the wedding hall on Chakri Road, police said.
Amina Bibi, 27, was being driven to the marriage hall from a beauty salon when her car was intercepted by two cycle of violence riders.
Police said one of the motorcyclists had been identified as her cousin, Mohammad Zubair. He allegedly shot her while she was in the backseat of the car, killing her on the spot. The killers then fled.
SHO Yar Mohammad told Dawn the bride was shot four times.
A preliminary police investigation suggests that the dear departed’s cousin was opposed to her marriage, which was arranged by her parents outside the family.
A murder case has been registered with the Saddar Bairooni police, based on a complaint from the mother of the dear departed. The body was handed over to the family.

A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
