LEROY, AL. -- An Alabama homeowner is being questioned, after an accused burglar is found dead and tied to a tree. When Nate sez 'shut up' you shut up damn it !
Deputies say 68-year-old Nathaniel Johnson caught the suspect breaking in, so he tackled him and tied him to the tree. Johnson told the Washington County Sheriff's Office he used electrical wires to tie up 31-year-old Cleveland Gulley.
According to WKRG-TV, Gulley would not stop talking, so Johnson put duct tape over his mouth and went to his neighbor to get help.
When investigators arrived about 15 minutes later, Gulley was dead. That's when he said he went to go to a neighbor's and call for help.
When deputies arrived, the accused thief was dead.

If charges are brought against Mr. Johnson, I strongly recommend a jury trial, lots of sweet tea, fried chicken, and greens on the courthouse lawn. Should be a splendid turn out, and speedy acquittal.

Hey, its the south. He didn't abuse any of those umpteen publicly displayed crosses to 'nail'im down'. I defer to Mr. Comey's description of intent.

A spectator seated in the first row at Dodger Stadium should be forever grateful of the ballgirl who worked Sunday's game between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks.
During the eighth inning, Arizona's Brandon Drury scorched a line drive foul towards the left-field stands. The ballgirl saw the baseball the entire way and made an outstanding backhanded catch. She calmly caught the ball and handed it to the fan in the blue shirt.
In the slow-motion replay, that same fan in the blue can be seen with his head down, likely looking at the phone he was holding in his left hand. It wasn't until after the ballgirl's sensational catch that the fan flinched or reacted to a baseball traveling towards his head.
Statcast registered the liner at 108.7 mph.
That trip to the ballpark could have ended terribly if not for the ballgirl's quick reaction.
Vin Scully certainly appreciated the catch. I'm sure that fan's face did as well.

Great catch, backhand catches are never routine.
I like the one where Bruce Wayne catches that bat before it hit a boy playing phone.
Too many fans are worse than tee-ballers and butterflys/clouds.
Was watching KC@TEX when a fan tried to catch a foul ball with his forehead. Announcers, a bit concerned and a bit frustrated, (badly quoted) "Folks - if you are going to a baseball game and not sitting behind a net - pay attention, and bring your glove."

Maybe these Gen X, Millenial ninnies should leave their precious cellphones in the car and enjoy a baseball game without having to text friends or something.

Took my daughter to TOR@KC last year after her season ended.
The fans, it was like watching a prairie dog town.
I watched all those games on TV, wishing I was there....get there, and all those fans watching the game on TV (phone, whatever).
I can get some of it - playoffs are in the air, likely playoff matchup, watch a replay, text-5 your friends, photo with the mascot, photo of the packed stadium, so forth.
I just do not think an attendee gets the full experience when poking their head in the cloud every 15 seconds.
Put the phone down, grab a beer and nachos, some BBQ if lucky enough to be in KC, and stay off my lawn.
No, the thing that got me was the chucklehead who acted like I was ruining his phone time by talking to my daughter about defensive positioning.
[StarsandStripes] The condition that may have caused the death this week of a U.S. Army Ranger candidate has dogged the military branch for decades as it has grappled with heat-related illnesses and proper hydration for trainees.
No cause of death has been determined for 21-year-old 2nd Lt. Michael Parros, 21, of Walnut Creek, California. He was hospitalized for hyponatremia Monday, his first day of the elite training in the sweltering heat at Fort Benning, Georgia, and died Wednesday. The condition can be caused by drinking too much water, which causes the body's level of sodium to become abnormally low.
Volume depletion + excessive salt loss + replenishing with water without salt = hyponatremia.
I guess they don't hand out salt pills anymore, since salt's bad for you.
The number of such cases in the military spiked after guidelines calling for increased fluid intake were issued more than two decades ago to combat heat illnesses during grueling training. Studies on the causes of the condition led to changes in policies to reduce heat-related illnesses and limit fluid intake; just a week before Parros fell ill, the Army issued a major update of its policy to prevent heat-related deaths that addresses the diagnosis and treatment of hyponatremia and more clearly defines guidelines for fluid consumption based on activity level, temperature and other factors.

Newc - do you really mean Infamil? That is baby formula. We used Pedialyte to prevent dehydration - good for adults with severe stomach issues or vomiting also.

Fatal overhydration (EAHE) is the end result of a fraud propagated by Pepsi/Gatorade and the American College of Sports Medicine to move more product. Heat injury is independent of hydration levels and nobody dies of transient dehydration during exertion--you will slow your pace to a crawl, and then a halt, long before any serious harm occurs. Electrolyte drinks are actually DILUTVE of serum sodium concentration. (They'd have to be at unpalatably high levels to not be--think sea water.)
Sports drinks improve neither safety nor performance. Their marketing story is made up bullshit that has lead to scores of deaths and many thousands of hospitalizations. This young man died needlessly.
Ghor police have arrested a Herat man after he allegedly married off his six-year-old daughter in exchange for a goat and other supplies.
The child was swapped as a bride for the items.
The father admitted to police that he had swapped his daughter, who was then married off to a 60-year-old Ghor man.
Acting head of the Ghor police investigation department, Mohammad Azim, said their investigations reveal that the girl was indeed 'sold' by her father to the 60-year-old man.
"We have prepared the dossier and it is ready to be sent to the attorney general's office," he said.
Earlier this week, the 60-year-old Ghor man who married the 6-year-old was arrested by police.
The girl's father, who is from Herat, then reportedly travelled to Ghor to secure the release of the Ghor man. However, on arrival at the police station he came under attack by local women.
In an admission, on camera, at the police station, the father said: "I gave my daughter to him. (In return) he gave me a goat, a baby goat (kid), a bag of flour and a bottle of ghee."
The 60-year-old also admitted on camera to having married the child. He said: "I married her. I gave her father a goat, a baby goat (kid), a bag of flour, a bottle of ghee, tea and sugar."
Meanwhile, Ghor civil society activists said they are fed up with the number of cases against women and children and said that if the perpetrators are not found and punished, they will stand up against the relevant government organizations in the province.
"Women are burnt, they commit suicide, they are stoned to death and shot dead. We will not tolerate these acts anymore. We will stand up against the negligence of local government if perpetrators are not punished," said Latifa Madadi, a woman activist in Ghor.
The prosecutor who deals with cases involving violence against women, Negina Ghori, said the case will be investigated thoroughly.
"..., father of the girl and ..., the man that married her, are under investigation and will be sent to jail in the near future," she added.
The six-year-old girl was married off to the man earlier this month. It is believed that civil society activists alerted the authorities to the case.

Right, BP, most recently - last night in a restaurant. I would've traded my six year old granddaughter for a goat. But her grandmothers wouldn't have allowed it.

I have threatened some little shit kids with being sold to the gypsies...
The organizers just tossed the security firm that was supposed to do this because that firm hadn't hired hardly anybody. So now security will be done by cops who haven't been paid in months and ex-military who haven't been screened. Oh, and there are definite terrorist threat warnings out there.

Russia's intelligence agency the FSB, successor to the KGB, has posted a notice on its website claiming that it now has the ability to collect crypto keys for Internet services that use encryption. This meets a two-week deadline given by Vladimir Putin to the FSB to develop such a capability. However, no details have been provided of how the FSB is able to do this.
The FSB's announcement follows the passage of Russia's wide-ranging surveillance law, which calls for metadata and content to be stored for six months, plus access to encrypted services, as Ars reported back in June.
The new capability seems to go even further, since the FSB notice (in Russian) speaks of obtaining the "information necessary for decoding the electronic messaging received, sent, delivered, and (or) processed by users of the 'Internet' network."
Being able to decode Internet communications would seem to imply getting hold of any crypto keys that are used. However, as an article on The Daily Dot points out, it is still not clear what the new laws will require: "No one seems to know what this new law means in the slightest. Or, more accurately, the people who do know are keeping mum."
Three of the services that are likely to be most affected by the new requirements are Facebook's WhatsApp, Telegram, and Viber. Ars has asked all three for clarification on what the Russian authorities have asked for, and what information the companies are or will be providing, but has not yet received any reply. This post will be updated with responses when they are received. That oughta give terrorists reason to $hit their jammies.
The Daily Dot quotes Russian technologist Anton Nesterov as saying that it's not even clear whether the new legislation applies to VPNs or basic SSL keys, nor whether mainstream electronic payment systems must hand over their keys as a matter of routine.
Nesterov also points out the dangers involved in providing this information, not least because leaks of such valuable data are always a risk.
China’s state-run Global Times has published an editorial attacking Australia for supporting the recent international ruling on China’s activities in the South China Sea and called for strikes on any Australian ships which might undertake “freedom-of-navigation” activities in the region.
The editorial said Australia “is not even a ‘paper tiger’, it’s only a ‘paper cat’ at best”. It says that even though “Australia calls itself a principled country… when it needs to please Washington, it demonstrates willingness of doing anything in a show of allegiance”.
Global Times says:
China must take revenge and let it know it’s wrong. Australia’s power means nothing compared to the security of China. If Australia steps into the South China Sea waters, it will be an ideal target for China to warn and strike.
Earlier this year, the Commander of the US Seventh Fleet, Vice Admiral Joseph P Aucoin, said it would be in the “best interests” of the region if Australia was to send ships to within 12 miles of the disputed area. Australia has so far not sent any of its ships there.
The editorial notes Australia’s strong economic ties with China as “its biggest trading partner” makes the reaction to the recent ruling of “disturbing the South China Sea waters surprising to many”.
It said Australia’s reaction to the ruling was “delirious” has called Australia a nation with an “inglorious history” which was “an offshore prison for the UK… established through uncivilised means, in a process filled with the tears of the aboriginals”.
In an effort to undermine any moral authority the Australian government might claim, both as a result of the recent ruling on the South China Sea on any reliance on democratic principles, the Global Times also referenced Australia’s claims over Antarctic territory as an example of this claimed hypocrisy. It said Australia’s claims in Antarctica “showed blunt double standards as if no one had a memory of what it did and said over the Antarctic”.
“Australia has unexpectedly made itself a pioneer of hurting China’s interest with a fiercer attitude than countries directly involved in the South China Sea dispute. But this paper cat won’t last,” the Global Times said.

So China's economy is tanking real badly and the anti-corruption drive is about to come to an end. So let's distract the plebs with this insufferable bellowing and feet stamping over events that occurred 150 years ago.
How about this: whadda ya say that we don't buy your stuff anymore and make our own. That way you won't embarrass yourself when you blow up a container ship.
Former North Korean leader Kim Jong-il's fourth wife Kim Ok was purged and sent to a prison camp less than a year after her stepson Suet Face Kim Jong-un took power, Radio Free Asia reported Tuesday. A Chinese businessman who visited Pyongyang recently told the radio station he heard from a senior Workers Party official that Kim Ok (52) had been sent off to a camp for political prisoners with her parents and siblings.
The last straw was apparently the arrogant attitude of her younger brother Kim Kyun.
"Kim Kyun acted high-handedly and tyrannically as his sister was Kim Jong-il's favorite after Fat Boy Kim Jong-un's mother Ko Yong-hui died in 2004," RFA said.
Kim Kyun was appointed first vice president of Kim Il-sung University in February 2011 but abruptly resigned from his post in October 2013.
Quoting another source, RFA said Kim Ok was always bound to be purged after Pudgy Kim Jong-un took power, given that Kim Jong-il also disappeared his father Kim Il-sung's second wife when the nation founder died in 1994.
His Corpulenceness Kim Jong-un had no reason to protect Kim Ok, who he may have felt took his mother’s place, a source said.
Kim Ok studied piano at Pyongyang University of Music and Dance and became a secretary to Kim Jong-il in 1980. She was seen on several occasions with the creepy Kim Jong-un until October 2012 but then disappeared from the radar.

Step-mother and inlaws.
The guy's got a normal streak after all.
Freedom Party candidate Norbert Hofer has widened his lead in a Gallup poll ahead of October’s repeat election for the Austrian presidency. Hofer lost by a whisker in May to former Greens party leader Alexander van der Bellen in an election that Austria’s constitutional court this month ordered re-run given vote count irregularities.
The Left can't win unless it cheats...
A series of Islamist attacks in Europe and Britain’s decision to leave the EU since the original vote have shuffled the political deck in neutral Austria.
The poll published by the Österreich paper yesterday showed the midpoint of the wide range of support for Hofer at 52 percent -- one point higher than a poll in early July found -- versus 48 percent for van der Bellen.
Fifty-seven percent of the 600 respondents cited Hofer’s personality as the most important factor, followed by “protection from terror” at 56 percent and “more stringent asylum policy” at 55 percent, the paper said.
The poll also showed the anti-Islam and euroskeptic Freedom Party (FPO) with record-high 35 percent support, far ahead of the governing coalition partners: the Social Democrats at 25 percent and conservative People’s Party at 19 percent. FPO leader Heinz Christian Strache has repeatedly accused d the government of taking too soft a line on Europe’s migrant crisis, which the FPO says has exposed Austria to danger.
Hofer, 45, lost out in May by just 31,000 votes to pro-Europe candidate van der Bellen, 72. But Austria’s highest court annulled the vote, finding that sloppiness in the count, while not intended to manipulate any votes, had potentially been serious enough to change the outcome.
If successful, he would be the first far-right head of state in a European Union country.

Drinking several cups of coffee daily appears to reduce the risk of suicide in men and women by about 50 percent, according to a new study by researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH). The study was published online July 2 in The World Journal of Biological Psychiatry.

Dunno, AA. I still have an old Gary Larsen coffee cup. showing a couple of dead neighbors, a grumpy armed coffee drinker and his wife who's saying "That's it, Carl, from now on you only get decaf".
Of course, today Gary would be ostracized by the chattering classes.....
