[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A senior Taliban group member who was previously serving as the group’s webmaster has been killed as tensions intensify among the rival Taliban groups.

According to the local government officials in Kandahar, the ex-webmaster of the Taliban, Bashir Ahmad Rayan was killed almost two months after he was kidnapped.

Provincial police chief Gen. Abdul Razaq has said Rayan was originally a resident of Qarabagh district of southeastern Ghazni province and was actively working for the media wing of the group when he was kidnapped from Kandahar province two months ago.

He said Rayan has been murdered as a result of the intensifying tensions among Mullah Akhtar Mansoor and Mullah Mohammad Rasool supporters.

Gitmo aumnus Mullah Zakir ends rifts with Mullah Akhtar Mansoor
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A prominent Taliban capo and member of the group’s leadership council ‘Rahbari Shura’ Mullah Abdul Qayoum Zakir has ended rifts with Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansoor.

An online statement published by Taliban on Wednesday states that Mullah Zakir pledges allegiance to the new leader.

The statement dated today carries Mullah Abdul Qayoum Zakir’s name at the bottom.

When the death of Mullah Mohammad Omar was confirmed in late July last year, a group of Taliban capos announced Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour as their next leader but some others including Mullah Zakir opposed the appointment.

Mullah Abdul Qayoum Zakir once headed Taliban’s military commission but stepped down due to differences with Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansoor.

He was a US prisoner at the detention cap of Guantanamo Bay.

Six killed in attack on Turkish vehicle in Mogadishu
MOGADISHU – At least six people including two Turkish teachers have been shot and killed and six others wounded in drive-by shooting in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, witnesses said. Four Somali nationals were also among those killed in the attack, officials said.

In Wednesday’s attack has wounded at least five Turkish students and a Kenyan teacher whose vehicle has been sprayed bullets by gunmen in Mogadishu’s Hodan district, witnesses said. The wounded have been rushed to the hospitals in the capital for medical treatment.
Somalia has.... hospitals ?
It's a polite euphemism for 'morgue'.
The killers escaped from the shooting scene.
As if they were never there...
Hundreds of government soldiers arrived at the spot
"Which spot?"

and launched manhunt but no arrests have been reported over the attack.

Turkish workers rarely targeted by gunmen, thought to be Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants based in Somalia. The Mogadishu’s defense hospital, seaport and Aden Adde International airport runs by Turkish agencies.

No group has claimed responsibility for the shooting but Al Shabaab carried out similar attacks in the past months.

Blasts and heavy gunfire heard in Libyan capital
Several loud explosions followed by heavy gunfire were heard over Tripoli in the early hours of Wednesday, a Reuters reporter said.

The cause of the firing was not immediately clear, but the Libyan capital has been on edge amid speculation that a U.N.-backed unity government was about to travel to Tripoli from Tunisia.

The self-declared government in Tripoli and some armed factions in the city oppose the unity government and have warned it not to move.

The Tripoli government was brought to power after armed brigades backing it won a battle for the capital in 2014. A rival government moved to eastern Libya.

The unity government is the result of a December deal to heal Libya's divisions and end its armed conflict, but the new government has faced opposition from hardliners in both the east and west of the country.

On Sunday and Monday Tripoli's airspace was closed for periods of several hours, a move that the unity government's Presidential Council said was designed to prevent it traveling into Libya.

Tripoli Prime Minister Khalifa Ghwell said in a statement late on Tuesday that the airspace had been closed to "protect the souls of the people following the Presidential Council's inappropriate behavior".

Yemen says dozens of al-Qaeda fighters detained in Aden
[AlAhram] Yemeni pro-government forces have carried out a series of raids against al-Qaeda in the southern port city of Aden, arresting dozens of suspects and causing the faceless myrmidons to flee from key areas, a top security official said Wednesday.

Maj. Gen. Shalal Shayaa, Aden's security chief, said that southern fighters backing the government have set up checkpoints across the al-Mansoura neighborhood, a former Lion of Islam stronghold. Shayaa later toured al-Mansoura on foot, reassuring residents and checking security patrols, according to witnesses.

Shayaa said the raids are part of a campaign aimed at consolidating the internationally-recognized government's control over Aden, its de facto capital. Shia militias known as Houthis seized the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, in 2014. Aden was plunged into lawlessness after government forces backed by a Saudi-led coalition drove the Houthis out last year.

Turkey detains 16 suspected Nusra militants: Report
[AlAhram] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
on Wednesday detained 16 members of Al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate Al-Nusra Front in a major police operation in the east of the country, reports said.

The suspects were detained in raids on 20 addresses in the eastern region of Adiyaman north of the Syrian border, the state-run Anatolia news agency reported.

It said the raids targeted people believed to be connected to fighting in Syria, without giving further details. Their nationalities were not disclosed.

The police failed to find four more suspects at their homes. At least two of those detained at previously been to Syria, it said.

The Al-Nusra Front shares some of the aims of the Islamic State

(IS) krazed killer group but has also on occasion fought against it.

This was one of the first times there has been a report of a major operation against suspected members of the group in Turkey.

Turkey has been accused in the past by its Western allies of not doing enough in the fight against IS group and Al-Nusra, although it has noticeably tightened border security in recent months and detained dozens of IS suspects.

Ankara has also been charged by some commentors on occasion of even collaborating with Al-Nusra Front as a useful ally in its drive to oust Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

Turkey bitterly rejects the claims, saying it categorises the Al-Nusra Front -- like IS group -- as a terror outfit.

Cleric on watch list leads protesters in Islamabad
[DAWN] GUJRAT: One of the main leaders of protesters at Islamabad’s D-Chowk has been on the Fourth Schedule of Anti-Terrorism Act for over a year, yet he made his way to the capital unhindered.

The government’s alleged leniency towards Pir Muhammad Afzal Qadri, the chief of Aalmi Tanzeem Ahle Sunnat, over the years has often put the authorities in a tough situation. Even when he was en route to participate in the chehlum of assassin Mumtaz Qadri local law enforcement authorities did not stop him from marching on Islamabad along with his outfit’s activists.

Sources in the district government and police said there were no particular directions issued by the provincial government regarding Qadri and his group’s plans to participate in the chehlum in Rawalpindi. This was why local authorities did not stop him, they added.

They further said around two months ago authorities had besieged Qadri’s residence and seminary in Mararrian village and stopped him from marching on Lahore to allegedly press the government against executing Mumtaz Qadri.

Talking to Dawn, a senior police official claimed at the time of besieging the seminary and house, police were about to arrest Qadri but provincial authorities ordered them against it at the eleventh hour citing the holy man’s poor health.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Council of Boskone, Helmuth ordered the space pirate fleet to attack Zemblonia...
some Afzal Qadri’s followers and supporters blocked GT Road at Lalamusa on Tuesday evening to press the government to enter into a dialogue with protest leaders in Islamabad’s D Chowk.

Gujrat DCO and DPO reached the site to persuade the protesters to lift the blockade.

Jakarta offers to help Manila in hostage rescue effort
[Gulf Today] Top Indonesian officials on Wednesday offered to send elite teams of soldiers and policemen to help their Philippine counterparts in the rescue operation of ten Indonesian crewmen of a vessel held hostage by the Abu Sayyaf in Mindanao.

However, Defense Minister Ryamizard pointed out their offer for help depends solely on its acceptance by the Philippine government. He said, "It is a foreign country. If we are not allowed to enter, then we cannot force it. If Manila is ready to settle it themselves, then we’ll wait but if they need our help then we should enter."

Ryamizard also emphasized that Indonesia would not give in to the rebels' demand for the payment of a $1 million ransom for the release of the hostages, the crewmen of an Indonesian-flagged boat taking coal from North Borneo to Manila.

Inspector General Anton Charliyan, the chief of the Indonesian National Police said they are ready to deploy the elite Densus 88 counter-terror squad and mobile brigade to participate in the rescue operation. He pointed out these elite units have been successful in several past hostage situations in Indonesia.

Indonesia's offer comes amid reports that authorities in Manila and Jakarta have been holding "high level consultations" that could include the participation of the Indonesian military and police forces in the rescue operation.

A reliable military source said the Indonesians were crew members of a tugboat which was sailing off the island province of Tawi-Tawi when several armed militants hijacked the vessel on Monday night. With a smaller vessel, the insurgents towed the tugboat which was later recovered along a coastal village.

The source said the hostages were now either in Sulu or neighboring Basilan.
