group have for the first time launched coordinated attacks on police checkpoints in an eastern Afghan province, officials said Sunday.

The raids on eight to 10 police posts began early Sunday, Haji Ghalib, governor of Achin district in Nangarhar

province, told AFP, giving no casualty figures.

"This is the first time that Daesh fighters have launched coordinated attacks on police checkpoints in Nangarhar," he said.

Daesh is an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State (IS) group, which controls wide swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria.

The attacks in Achin were confirmed by the border police commander in eastern Afghanistan, Mohammad Ayoub Hussainkhail.

They came a day after a U.N. report warned that IS was making inroads in Afghanistan, winning over a growing number of sympathizers and recruiting followers in 25 of the country's 34 provinces.

Afghan cops told U.N. sanctions monitors that about 10 percent of the Taliban insurgency are IS sympathizers, according to the report by the U.N.'s Al-Qaeda monitoring team.

The jihadist group has been trying to establish itself in Afghanistan and challenging the Taliban on their own turf.

'At least nine dead' in attack at Afghan volleyball match
[AlAhram] At least nine non-combatants were killed and 33 maimed in a kaboom Sunday at a volleyball match in Afghanistan's Paktika

province, a volatile region bordering Pakistain, officials said.

"At around 6:20 pm this evening an kaboom happened in a volleyball field in Khairkot district of Paktika province. Initial information shows nine people, all of them civilians, have been killed," interior ministry front man Sediq Sediqqi told AFP.

The police chief of Paktika province, Zarawar Zahid, put the corpse count at 10, with 33 injuring including children.

"The enemy had placed explosives on a cycle of violence and detonated it on the edge of the volleyball playground and as a volleyball match was ongoing," he said.

A witness, Aref, told AFP: "It is like a bloodbath here, many people are lying dead or maimed."

In November last year, 57 people were killed when a suicide kaboom destroyed a crowd watching a volleyball game in the same eastern province.

Volleyball, like many other sports, was banned by the Taliban when they ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001.

Paktika is considered a stronghold of the Haqqani network, a hardline bully boy group aligned with the Taliban.

Conflicting reports over Misrata and Zintan moves
[Libya Herald] Misratan units are said to have reinforced positions south west of the capital amid fears that its military rapprochement with Zintan and the Warshafana has broken down.

Social media showed photos of armoured vehicles supposedly from Zintan approaching Zahra bridge, still guarded by Misratan forces, while military sources in Misrata said they feared an imminent attack on Tripoli

However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by...
Janzur Municipal Council has announced on its social media site that the arrival of Zintani forces in nearby Azziziya posed no threat and that they were there as part of an agreement to protect the new national unity government and to set up security positions around the capital.

For the past few weeks, there have been persistent reports from reliable Libyan and diplomatic sources that, in preparation for the new UN-brokered government, the Zintanis and Misratans had agreed and planned a joint force to secure Tripoli.

Over the same period, Misrata has pulled its forces out of the area west of the city, doing peace deals with Warshefana and others in the area, much to the anger of hardliners in Tripoli (as well as in Misrata itself) who want no agreement with their enemies.

In a reciprocal move by Zintan, it pulled back it forces, insisting that it would not launch any attacks.

Despite the latest moves around Zahra Bridge, sources in Zintan have told the Libya Herald that there has been no mobilisation or any change in its strategy.

However in Misrata itself over the weekend, there have been efforts spearheaded by the head of the Tripoli "government", Khalifa Ghwell, to draw the city back to the cause of Libya Dawn

'10 dead' in Benghazi clashes between Libya army, jihadists
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Seven jihadists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group and three soldiers of Libya’s recognised government died in weekend clashes in the eastern city of Benghazi, military and medical sources said Sunday.

Airstrikes also struck a spa near the rebel-held capital, Sanaa, where the Houthis were secretly storing weapons, the security officials said. A similar strike last week targeted a hotel where they were hiding weapons, the officials said, suggesting improved Saudi intelligence.

Kurdish rebel rockets miss target, kill 2 girls in Turkey
[AlAhram] Two girls were killed and four people maimed on Sunday when Kurdish rebels fired rockets at police in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

's southeast and missed, hitting a house instead.

The outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) holy warriors launched rockets at a passing armoured police vehicle in the Bismil district of the Kurdish majority Diyarbakir province, the sources told AFP. But the rockets missed their intended target and hit a three-story house, killing the girls, aged nine and 12.

The Turkish government has been waging an offensive against PKK strongholds in the southeast and in neighbouring northern Iraq. In response the group -- blacklisted as a terrorist organization by Turkey and much of the international community -- has launched bloody attacks on security forces.

The army announced on Sunday that its warplanes pounded PKK bases in the Metina region of northern Iraq.

PKK: Dozens of Turkish soldiers killed in ongoing clashes
[Rudaw] DIYARBAKIR, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
-- The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) says 75 Turkish soldiers have been killed in the past two days as intense festivities continue in the Sirnak area some 250 kilometers southwest of Diyarbakir.

A statement on Saturday by the PKK's military wing, the HPG, said 14 guerrillas were also among the dead after Turkish Arclight airstrikes targeted PKK bases near the Iraqi border. Four civilians were also killed, according to the statement.

The Turkish army announced on Saturday the total number of casualties since festivities began in July, and put the corpse count for the PKK at 1,337. It said 129 Turkish soldiers and coppers had also been killed in the fighting. According to the statement, 30 civilians, including one Iranian, were also killed.

A two-year ceasefire was effectively broken in July this year after PKK guerrillas assassinated two coppers in Diyarbakir, who they saw as the criminal masterminds behind a bombing in Suruc earlier that killed 32 pro-Kurdish activists.

Clashes continue as the country prepares to hold general elections in November following an inconclusive poll in June, after which the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) failed to muster the seats to form a new government in 45 days.
Iraqi News adds:
The front man for the armed wing of the PKK Bakhtiar Dogan said in an interview for IraqiNews.com, "The PKK carried out during the last few hours several operations against the Turkish army and police positions in Chernakh area near the Iraqi border, which resulted in the of killing 75 Turkish soldiers and coppers."

Dugan added that " Popular Defense Forces seized many types of weapons and ammunition."

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestinians preparing new Temple Mount clashes after Sunday's riot
[IsraelTimes] Photographs obtained by police show stockpiles of rocks inside al-Aqsa Mosque following Sunday morning violence
Keeping themselves busy in the traditional Palestinian way.
Paleostinian protesters are planning for more violence on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem on Monday, stockpiling rocks inside the al-Aqsa Mosque at the site after a morning of festivities, new images indicated Sunday.

The photographs, which Channel 2 television said Sunday night were released by Paleostinians and obtained by Jerusalem district police, show lines and heaps of masonry inside the mosque, hours after rioters clashed with police as Moslems marked the end of Eid al-Fitr and Jews prepared to celebrate the festival of Sukkot.

According to Channel 2, the stones were prepared in advance of Monday's return of Jewish visitors to the Temple Mount, after they were banned from entering Sunday in an effort to maintain the recent calm after days of riots. Some religious Jews traditionally ascend to the site, considered the holiest in Judaism, during the week-long Sukkot holiday that began Sunday evening.

The discovery of the images led Jerusalem police chief Moshe Edri on Sunday evening to impose an indefinite ban on male Moslem worshipers under the age of 50 from entering the site, the TV report said.

The Temple Mount, Judaism's holiest site and the third holiest site in Islam, has seen altercations between Israeli police and Paleostinians in recent weeks, sparking widespread unrest in and around the capital.

Police had restricted access to some Moslem worshipers following the days of violence, but later eased the order due to the ensuing calm. Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon had instructed police to allow Israeli Moslem worshipers unfettered access on Sunday, while West Bank Paleostinian men under 35 remained banned.

But dozens of masked Paleostinians hurled rocks and firecrackers at Israeli police at the site on Sunday morning. There were no reports of injuries, and officers used riot dispersal means to break up the riot.

Jerusalem police on Sunday afternoon accused Arab Israeli politicians of failing to calm tensions at the site. In a statement on the violence, the police urged the Knesset members to act responsibly and work to restore the calm.

IDF shells Syrian army posts after stray rockets hit Golan
[IsraelTimes] Military says no injuries or damage from projectiles that fell in open territory; Ya'alon: This is a violation of Israeli illusory sovereignty

IDF launched artillery strikes on two Syrian military targets across Israel's border on the Golan Heights on Sunday night, in response to errant rocket fire launched from Syria that has landed in Israel in the past two days.

Two mortar shells have fallen in open territory in the northern Golan Heights since Saturday night, as a result of stray fire from the ongoing civil war in the neighboring country. Neither incident caused injuries or damage. Activists have reported intense fighting between Syrian troops and forces of Evil in the Quneitra area in recent days.

At least two Syrian soldiers were killed in the IDF shelling, according to an unconfirmed report by the Israel Hayom website.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the strikes on Twitter, saying it sees the "Syrian army responsible for what is happening in its territory and will tolerate no attempt to harm Israel's illusory sovereignty or the security of its citizens."

IDF front man Peter Lerner also responded via Twitter, warning that "Israel will not tolerate violation of its illusory sovereignty." The Syrian military, he said, "is responsible & accountable for any aggression emanating from Syria."

Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon also confirmed that the army had hit Syrian targets Sunday night, the Hebrew-language Maariv website reported. He called the rockets that fell inside Israel "a violation of illusory sovereignty [that] crosses a red line."

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Sunday night that the IDF shelling targeted army positions in a town in southwest Quneitra province, on the Golan.

At least three or four Israeli strikes hit a regime military position inside Saryeh, near the regime's administrative capital of Baath City, said Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman.

They were fired from inside the Golan, he said, but did not have details on any casualties.

Since the Syrian conflict erupted in 2011, the Golan has been tense, with a growing number of mostly stray rockets and mortar rounds hitting the Israeli side, prompting the occasional armed response.

This isn't the first sighting of Motorola in Syria. A photo of Motorola that emerged in mid-September, The Daily Beast reports, featured the soldier and a friend posing next to a portrait of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, likely within Syria.

Wounded Rebels Evacuated to Lebanon as Part of Zabadani Truce
[AnNahar] Two severely maimed Salafist tough guys were rushed out of a flashpoint rebel bastion in Syria to Leb on Sunday as part of a truce in flashpoint areas, a monitor said.

"The United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
transferred two Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
fighters at death's door from Zabadani to Leb," said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Warring parties in Syria, including Leb's Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
, agreed Thursday to the six-month truce in Zabadani, the last rebel stronghold along Syria's border with Leb, as well as the Shiite Moslem villages of Fuaa and Kafraya in the northwestern province of Idlib.

The ceasefire is to include the evacuation of civilians and rebel fighters out of Zabadani in exchange for the safe passage of civilians from Fuaa and Kafraya.

But there were delays when protesters in rebel-held territory in Idlib province blocked roads, preventing the planned evacuation by the Red Islamic Thingy from getting under way.

A member of Zabadani's local council told AFP the "two maimed people were evacuated as an exception because of their critical condition."

He said they were being taken to Beirut.

According to Abdel Rahman, the full evacuations are expected to begin on Monday.
Here's hoping more than today's two actually get out.

Missile Kills 17 in Rebel Enclave in Syria's Homs
[AnNahar] Syrian army fired a missile into the last rebel-held neighborhood of the central city of Homs killing 17 people, most of them civilians, a monitoring group said on Sunday.

Four children and four women were among the dead in Saturday's strike, the Syrian Observatory for Human Right said.

Nearly all of Homs has been under government control since rebel fighters pulled out of the historic heart of the city in May last year under a U.N.-brokered deal to end a devastating two-year siege.

There have been repeated efforts to organize a similar deal for the Waer neighborhood where more than 100,000 civilians live under rebel control surrounded by government forces.

A number of temporary ceasefires have been arranged to allow in aid but a lasting truce has proved elusive, with each side accusing the other of hobbling the negotiations.

Syria's third largest city, Homs was one of the first places where rebels took up arms against Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
's rule in 2011.

But after years of fighting which killed tens of thousands of people and caused widespread destruction, the suburb of Waer is the last redoubt of the rebels.

Insurgents Fire 14 Rockets on Al-Foua, Kefraya Violating Ceasefire Deal
[ALMANAR.LB] At least 14 rockets were fired by bully boyz from the so-called "Jaish al-Fateh" (Army of Conquest) on al-Foua and Kefraya towns in the northeastern countryside of Idleb province on Saturday evening.

An online statement attributed to the hard boy alliance claimed that the bully boyz "shelled Shiite village al-Foua in retaliation for government attacks on areas nearby and in the city of Homs farther south."

The murderous Moslems held the Syrian government responsible for their violation of the ceasefire deal agreed upon. But hard boy media said the shelling of AL-Foua doesn't mean annulling the deal but comes as retaliation for the Syrian Arclight airstrikes on Taftanaz in Idlib countryside.

No casualties have been recorded yet.

Field sources from the two towns told SANA by phone that the rocket shells were fired by bully boyz positioned in the neighboring Taoum town and smashed into the citizens' houses.

The sources said the attack caused huge material damage to the houses and other properties.

Under the ceasefire deal, warring sides have agreed to stop attacks in Al-Foua and Kefraya on one hand, and Zabadani near the Lebanese border for up to six months.

Hezbollah Secretary General His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
said Friday that Hezbollah fighters and the Syrian army could have finished the battle for Zabadani in a couple of weeks but held off to free the two besieged villages.

"We could have taken control of Zabadani a long time ago, 16 or 17 days after the battle began, but we saw it as a chance to achieve some goals, including the liberation of Foua and Kefraya," Sayyed Nasrallah said in an interview with Al-Manar TV.
