Tripoli's Mitiga Airbase attacked by IS, assailants killed
[Libya Herald] A four-man suicide group from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) managed to penetrate Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
's Mitiga airbase early this morning and attack one of the prisons there. All four, however, were killed when they tried to storm the building used by the Rada (Deterrence) forces of Abdul-Raouf Kara. However,
the man who has no enemies isn't anybody and has never done anything...
it is claimed that they managed to blow a hole in the prison wall.

There are reports that at least three Rada fighters were also killed in the fighting.

IS has put out a statement claiming responsibility for the attack, with photos of the attackers, some of whom it is thought are not Libyan. They were armed with explosives belts.

There are conflicting reports as to the motive for the attack. One is that the squad wanted to rescue fellow IS members held at the prison. Another is that the aim was simply to show that they could hit those controlling the capital, Kara being a principle figure. There are also suggestions that the attack aimed to undermine Abdul Hakim Belhaj, the former LIFG commander now widely regarded as the most powerful person in the city. His Libyan Wings airline has announced that it will start flying from the airport tomorrow.

New Benghazi operation announced by Hafter
[Libya Herald] There were heavy air strikes this afternoon in Benghazi's Leithi, Gwarsha and Sabri districts following the announcement of a new military operation against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
and other krazed killer groups in the city.

The launch of Operation Doom (Hatif) was unveiled earlier in the day by the head of Libyan armed forces, General Khalifa Hafter, at a military gathering at Benina Airbase. Almost all the army and air force top brass in Benghazi were present, includeing the head of Saiqa Special Forces
...Libya's elite army unit, insofar as they have one, formed from a mixture of paratroopers and commandos. The group emerged from a militia with the same name in 2010. It now numbers a few thousand and reports to the Ministry of Defence. It deployed in Benghazi in an attempt to control the carnage. As a result, it has been attacked and several of its officers murdered. The force is popular in Benghazi for its stance against Ansar al-Sharia group...
, Colonel Wanis Bukhamada, and the head of the Benghazi Operations Room, Colonel Ali Elthemen.

According to Hafter, the operation will be intensive, will see greater coordination between air and ground forces, and will target the krazed killers' weapon and supply stores as well as their bases.

Hafter has been attacking them in the three areas for the past year. Although there has been some success, the krazed killers, still well supplied with weapons, ammunition and men, have not been defeated and continue, largely through sniper fire, to prevent the Libya National Army (LNA) taking possession of the areas. The LNA, together with local militias directly under Hafter's control, have resorted to heavy artillery to shell terrorist positions but while it has destroyed many buildings, it has not stopped the snipers.

Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, a little lightbulb figuratively appeared over Bossy's head...
random missile firing, which both sides have been accused of carrying out, continues to claim innocent lives in the city.

Yesterday an eight-year old girl, named as Isra Ferjani, was killed and her 10-year old sister Nur Al-Huda maimed along with three other adults, in random missile strikes in the city's Salami district.

15 Killed as Arab Coalition Planes Pound Yemen Capital
[AnNahar] Air raids by Saudi-led coalition warplanes killed 15 people in Yemen's capital in one of the heaviest nights of bombardment in months, aid workers and witnesses said Saturday.

One rescuer told AFP at least 10 civilians were among the dead.

"Ten members of the same family were killed in the Al-Falihi neighborhood, in Sanaa's old town," he said.

Residents said four houses were destroyed by a bomb and that 15 other buildings were damaged.

Witnesses said five Houthis were killed in a raid on their position in the capital, which the Iran-backed Shiite fighters seized last year.

Residents of Sanaa's Al-Hassaba neighbourhood said coalition jets conducted several sorties overnight, targeting an interior ministry building and a cop shoppe.

A residence of ousted president President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
, whose forces have allied with the Huthis, was also bombed, as well as an office of his political party, according to residents.

In central Zubeiri Street, an army communications office was hit for the first time by the coalition. The building has been used by the pro-Huthi Saba news agency, as well as other media outlets, according to a rebel front man.

An analyst estimates the coalition has more than 5,000 troops in Yemen, supporting local forces.

In Marib province, east of Sanaa, where pro-Hadi forces have launched a mass ground offensive, several Huthi positions were also bombed overnight, military sources said.

MSF: 750 migrants rescued from boats off Libyan coast
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] At least 750 people were rescued Saturday from three small boats in international waters near the Libyan coast by a ship operated by Doctors Without Borders, a front man told AFP.

"Over 750 people have been rescued since 5:00 am (0300 GMT)," Yazan al-Saadi, MSF's regional communications officer said in Beirut. He said a fourth rescue operation by MSF's Bourbon Argos search-and-rescue vessel was currently underway.

In videos sent to AFP by MSF, hundreds of people in brightly-colored clothes are sprawled out on the ship, some hugging and clapping. Children can be heard crying in the background on command.

"There are multiple nationalities... Thankfully, everyone is in good health," said MSF front man Sami al-Subaihi, who is seen aboard the ship in the video.

"We are heading now towards the fourth boat, and we will see what the situation is like there," Subaihi said.

Turkish airstrikes kill 55 Kurdish rebels
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Turkish fighter jets carried out a new barrage of cross-border Arclight airstrikes this week against Kurdish bully boyz in northern Iraq, killing at least 55 rebels, state-run Anatolia news agency reported Saturday.

The strikes by F-16 and F-4 jets targeted caves, houses and camps used by the bully boy Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), Anatolia said, citing unnamed security sources.

"At least 55 to 60 terrorists" were killed in the operation, which destroyed munitions depots, the report added.

Turkish security forces and the outlawed PKK have shot it out on a near daily basis since a two-year-old ceasefire fell apart in late July with Ankara's launch of a two-pronged "anti-terror" offensive against Islamic State

Militant killed by own bomb
[DAWN] BANNU: One suspected myrmidon was killed and another injured when an bomb they were carrying on their cycle of violence went off prematurely at Mazangah area in the limits of Miryan cop shoppe here on Friday.
For whatever reason, Allah willed it. Perhaps he doesn't actually like this jihad thingy.
According to Miryan police, two suspected murderous Moslems were carrying an IED on their cycle of violence when a fault occurred in the bike.

They said that the bomb went off when they stopped. As a result, one suspected myrmidon was killed and the other suffered injuries.

Later, the security forces and police in a joint search operation jugged
Please don't kill me!
the injured myrmidon and shifted him to some holy man's guesthouse an undisclosed location for interrogation.

The bomb disposal unit personnel reached the site to collect evidence. They said that six kilogrammes of explosives were used in the IED. A hand-grenade, detonator and gas cylinder were also recovered from the site, they said.

Police said the both the myrmidons, aged between 19 and 20 years, were local residents. They identified on the injured as Waheed.

PAF base attackers wanted to engage troops in long gun battle
[DAWN] Unlike the past, the myrmidons, who attacked Pakistain Air Force's base camp in Badhaber, Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
, on Friday morning, seemed to have come with a different strategy to engage the security forces in a long shootout, experts say.

"For the first time, the faceless myrmidons used an altogether different strategy as none of the attackers had worn boom jacket," said Shafqat Malik, head of the Bomb Disposal Squad, who examined bodies of attackers and ammunition inside the camp.

Shafqat Malik said previously, faceless myrmidons used to wear suicide jackets.

"The quantity of ammunition, which Lions of Islam had carried, showed they had come for a long shootout," he said.

The BDS head said two cellphones were also recovered from the attackers, who were aged between 20 and 30 years.

In the past, the faceless myrmidons used boom jackets in attacks, especially on security installations.

The attackers, who killed around 150 students and teachers at Army Public School Peshawar on December 16, 2014, had also used suicide jackets.

In a statement, Mohammad Khurassani, front man for the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain, grabbed credit for the attack and insisted 14 faceless myrmidons took part in Badhaber camp attack and reached there in two vehicles.

The faceless myrmidons launched attack at around 5am. People in the vicinity heard loud kabooms inside the camp.

The army confirmed that 22 PAF personnel, three soldiers, including Captain Asfandyar Bukhari, and four non-combatants were killed, while 25 others got injuries in attack.

Officials said heavy weapons and ammunition were recovered from attackers. They said faceless myrmidons wore identical jaguars and carried AK-47 rifles, rocket propelled grenades-7, anti-tank rocket launchers, hand grenades, improvised bombs and backpacks with loaded magazines.

The security officials said attackers lobbed hand grenades to engage guards manning the camp's main entrance.

They believed that attackers had planned to breach the second line of defence to reach mess and residential quarters.

"Personnel did a good job and engaged attackers at the second line of defence close to mechanised transport section in the camp," said an official.

Bodies of faceless myrmidons lied near the mechanised transport section.

"Had they (militants) reached residential quarters, it would have proved more fatal," he said.

Major casualties occurred at the main mosque, where Lions of Islam lobbed hand grenades at worshipers.

Bodies of 13 attackers were taken in jug.

Shafqat Malik said fingerprints of attackers had been taken, while DNA tests would be conducted.

"Fingerprints are perfect and experts will be able to identify them easily," he said.

Arrival of over one dozen attackers in two vehicles also exposed intelligence and state of preparedness of law-enforcement agencies, especially the police. Attackers used main road to reach the PAF camp, where the police have checkpoints.

The camp is located in a thickly populated area, where Afghan refugees have sufficient concentration.

Several Afghan jihadi commanders are understood to have rented residential compounds in the vicinity. Easy access by attackers to the camp shows that the sensitive installation housing technicians, training facilities and families was not properly protected.

The Badhaber locality is said to be notorious as for the law and order situation. The area is close to Frontier Region Peshawar and used to be infested with criminals and hardcore terrorists.

The locals had raised local lashkars to fend off attacks from faceless myrmidons in the past but the area is still considered to be unsafe.

60 suspects held, arms, ammunition seized during raids on Khokhar houses
[DAWN] Law enforcement agencies nabbed
Please don't kill me!
over 60 people, including Afghan nationals, and recovered arms, ammunition and explosives from the Deras of the Khokhar clan.

Officials in the police said it was an "information-based operation (IBO)" conducted by Rangers and the capital police in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The raid was planned a couple of weeks ago but postponed at the final stages several times. The raid led to the recovery of weapons and equipment, including those under the use of NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
, they added.

It may be mentioned that the Rawalpindi police and Rangers conducted a raid in the capital city last month while the latest raid in localities in Rawalpindi was jointly carried out by the Islamabad police and the Rangers.

According to the officials, the capital police were asked to get ready for an operation on Thursday night. In response, a contingent of the police, including deputy superintendents of police, gathered at a cop shoppe. Later, they were joined by more personnel who riding over 30 vehicles moved towards Khokhar House, commonly known as Khan Jee's Dera located near Koral Chowk on Islamabad Highway in the jurisdiction of the Rawalpindi police.

During the raid, over 19 people were taken into custody and weapons recovered from their possession. Later, the law enforcement agencies moved to Ghori Town Phase V and raided another dera owned by the Khokhar clan and known as Zafar Khokhar's dera. The officials said weapons were also recovered from the dera which led to the arrest of a few people, including Hanif Khokhar.

The team also raided Malik Yaqoob's dera at Moza Jawa in Sihala. The officials said Yaqoob was a rival of Taji Khokhar. A fair amount of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the dera along with drone surveillance cameras, armed forces' shoes and laptops, the officials said. Some other deras adjacent to the Expressway were also raided.

The raids continued till Friday morning and later the 60 arrested people were shifted to different areas along with the weapons. On Friday evening, the 19 people picked from Taji Khokhar's dera were handed over to the Airport police. A contingent of the Rawalpindi police, comprising commandoes, reached the Kural cop shoppe in nine vehicles and took the custody of the suspects.

Father and toddler killed in Indian-held Kashmir
[DAWN] Gunmen have shot and killed a 3-year-old boy and his father in Indian-held Kashmire, police said on Saturday.

Police Inspector-General Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gillani blamed alleged murderous Moslems fighting against Indian rule for the killings late Friday.

Gunmen first threw a grenade, and when that didn't explode they sprayed bullets at Bashir Ahmed, himself a former holy warrior, outside his home as he was carrying his son, said a police officer, speaking on customary condition of anonymity.

The attack took place in northern Sagipora village in Indian-held Kashmire's Sopore region. Ahmed was struck down in his prime, while his son died at a hospital on Saturday.

Sopore has seen a recent spate of similar attacks on civilians and former holy warriors, with rebel groups and government troops blaming each other.

Meanwhile,
...back at the saloon, Butch got the bill for the damage caused by the fist fight, the mirror broken in the shootout, and drinks for everyone......
villagers on Saturday discovered the perforated carcass of a holy warrior in an orchard in Indian Kashmire's Tangmarg area. Troops and anti-India separatists blamed each other for the killing.

On Monday, the bullet-riddled bodies of three local men bearing torture marks were found in the region, leading to days of protests and festivities between Kashmiris and government forces.

Top separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani has condemned the killings and called for an independent probe. He also asked people to observe a shutdown on Sunday to protest the killings.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Weekend sees violent escalation
[Ynet] Friday and Saturday marked by dangerous riots in Jerusalem and rocket fire at southern Israel; government to meet Sunday to discuss security situation and consider changing rules of engagement.

The weekend after Rosh Hashanah was marred by violence in Israel, with riots in the Shuafat refugee camp and in the At-Tur and Issawiya neighborhoods, Molotov cocktails that maimed border police fighters in Jabel Mukaber, Paleostinians maimed and nabbed
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
, another attack on the Jerusalem light rail, and rocket fire in the south. This is a still incomplete litany of the violent incidents that rocked Israel this weekend (Friday and Saturday).

Tensions continued to boil over on Saturday, following a particularly explosive day on Friday. Shortly after 10:30pm, a Code Red siren was heard in numerous communities adjacent to Gazoo, but it soon turned out that while a rocket had been fired, it did not reach Israeli territory.

That same evening at 10:08pm, rocks were thrown at vehicles on the road between Jerusalem and Gush Etzion. No one was hurt.

And at 10:45, a Molotov cocktail was thrown at a guard tower at an IDF base in Binyamin, causing a brush fire. Two firefighting teams were sent to the scene. While these attempted to put out the fire, they were pelted with stone and a Molotov cocktail that went kaboom! nearby. Troops responded with riot dispersal methods.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he would hold a meeting on Sunday to further discuss the mounting tensions. In the previous government meeting, Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein approved the the use of Ruger rifles by security forces in East Jerusalem, and it has been reported that some have already been maimed by these firearms.

A draft proposal for changing the conditions under which security forces can use live fire in events where people's lives are at risk is expected to be presented for approval at Sunday's meeting. The main scenarios discussed are those in which stones and Molotov cocktails are being thrown.

The distinction between protests and terrorism will remain, and special police units will be operating in Jerusalem for the coming period. The police will be reinforcing its presence in the city's eastern neighborhoods, and a special investigation and intelligence taskforce will be run jointly by police and Shin Bet personnel.

A memorandum about the law allowing fines for the parents of stone-throwers and Molotov cocktail hurlers, as well as the mandatory minimum sentences for these crimes (and the use of firecrackers or flare guns as weapons), has been distributed.

The Prime Minister's Office clarified that Israel is dedicated to preserving the status quo, and it was decided that entrance to the Temple Mount area will be restricted to those above 40 years old on weekends, in order to lower chances of violence.
The Times of Israel adds:
So far, police have used rubber bullets, tear gas, water cannons and other non-lethal measures to quell riots in Jerusalem or to combat incidents where Paleostinians throw rocks at Israeli forces, pedestrians or cars.

In an operation initiated by Border Police in the village of Isawiyah in northeastern Jerusalem on Saturday evening, Paleostinian youths hurled rocks at Border Police officers. The soldiers chased the perpetrators and locked away

five people, several of them minors.

Also on Saturday, a brush fire broke out near a military base located in Anatot, north of Jerusalem. An initial report indicated that the fire began when a Paleostinian hurled a Molotov cocktail at a guarding post in the base. Two firefighting teams doused the flames.

Southeast Asia
Bomb-maker nabbed in southern Thailand
[The Nation] Security forces yesterday captured an alleged key bomb-maker in Songkhla province who is linked to the bombing of a Defense Ministry motorcade in Yala on Monday that injured five rangers. It is understood his DNA was found at the scene of the attack in Muang district.

Mahadi Malee was arrested at the home of his wife, whom he married only two weeks ago. Mahadi, previously detained on suspicions of involvement in the southern insurgency, has maintained his innocence.

Meanwhile, security was beefed up in the far South following the eight bomb attacks in Narathiwat's Rangae district on Thursday night. Three people were killed and 13 injured in one of the bomb attacks.

In related news, officials yesterday presided over a ceremony at Pattani Prison in which a second former militant of the Patani United Liberation Organisation, Da-oh Maseng, or Da-oh Thanam, was paroled. Da-oh was given a life sentence in 1998 along with fellow militant Sama-ae Thanam, who was released on parole on July 17 after serving almost two decades.

Four national security convicts and three gun-related crime convicts were also released. The releases are said to be part of the government's policy of showing its sincerity in restoring peace in the region.

Al-Qaeda in Syria executes 56 regime troops
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Al-Qaeda's Syria affiliate and its Islamist allies have executed at least 56 regime troops at a military airport they recently seized in the northwest, a monitoring group said Saturday.

Al-Nusra Front and the Islamists rubbed out the regime fighters, who were being held as prisoners, "execution-style" inside the Abu Duhur airport, said Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

He said the killings in Idlib province had occurred earlier this week but his monitoring group, which gathers news from sources on the ground, confirmed them on Saturday.

Al-Nusra is a leading member of an alliance of murderous Moslems and Islamist forces called the "Army of Conquest" that overran the Abu Duhur military airport on September 9.

When it overran the airbase, the Army of Conquest killed dozens of regime loyalists and took others captive.

The powerful coalition has seized almost all of Idlib province except for Fuaa and Kafraya, two regime-controlled villages inhabited by Shiite Moslems.

The Army of Conquest ramped up its assault on the two villages on Friday, detonating at least nine boom-mobiles, seven of which were jacket wallahs, the Observatory said.

The attack left at least 21 regime loyalists and 17 Army of Conquest murderous Moslems dead.

One of the suicide bombers managed to enter Fuaa itself and killed seven civilians, including two children, Abdel Rahman said.

Fierce festivities and heavy shelling on the two villages continued on Saturday.

Fuaa, Kafraya and the rebel stronghold of Zabadani in Damascus province were at the centre of two failed attempt

Former bin Laden lieutenant killed in Syria: monitor
[AlAhram] A former lieutenant of the late Al-Qaeda chief, the late Osama bin Laden
... who is now neither a strong horse nor a weak horse, but a dead horse...
, has been killed in fighting with pro-government turbans in Syria, a monitor said Saturday.

"Abul Hassan al-Tunsi, an important leader of Al-Nusra Front, was killed in festivities Friday between Salafist tough guys and pro-government militia around the Shiite villages of Fuaa and Kafraya in Idlib province," said Syrian Observatory for Human Rights director Rami Abdel Rahman.

Tunsi, who was in his 60s, arrived in Syria in 2012, Abdel Rahman said.

He was one of bin Laden's "assistants and fought in Al-Qaeda's ranks in Afghanistan and Iraq."

Syrian jets launch 25 airstrikes against ISIS in Palmyra
[Rudaw] At least 25 Arclight airstrikes were carried out Friday by Syrian military warplanes on the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
-held city of Palmyra, killing 26 people, including 12 ISIS fighters, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The attack is considered one of the most intense government bombardments of Palmyra, the observatory said.

On Thursday, at least 12 Arclight airstrikes were also carried out by Syrian jets on the Islamic State-held city of Raqqa.

Recently, the Syrian military started using new types of air and ground weapons supplied by Russia, highlighting the growth of Russian support to Damascus that is alarming the United States, Syrian military sources told Rooters on Thursday.

On Thursday, the Russian government announced that the purpose of the military support is to participate in the fight against terrorism.

ISIS seized Palmyra last May and since then has destroyed several temples, historic buildings and shrines. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back 2,000 years.

Terror Networks
Terror Fears As Iran Frees Al Qaeda Members
[SkyNews] Some intelligence agencies warn the five men may travel to Syria and make use of its chaotic landscape to plot attacks elsewhere.

Qaeda operatives from detention and will soon allow them to leave the country, prompting fears they will join other gunnies in Syria planning attacks on the West.

According to intelligence sources, three of the five are members of al Qaeda's ruling committee the Shura Council.

They were released in exchange for an Iranian diplomat kidnapped in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
earlier this year.

The move comes not long after the American-led coalition in Syria bombed and killed several members of an organization known as the Khorasan Group - an al Qaeda network based in Syria but focusing on planning attacks in the West using operatives with foreign passports.

Among those killed was Mohsin al Fadhli, who had also been based in Iran and was released by Tehran.

Intelligence sources said that while the Shi'a theocracy of Iran and the Sunni murderous Moslem group al Qaeda were theoretical enemies, there has been an "understanding" that the two would avoid attacks on one another and focus on battling the "shared threat" of the West.

Among those released in exchange for the Iranian diplomat was Abu al Kheir al Masri - the former head of al Qaeda's "external relations" committee, who was once seen as a possible replacement for the late Osama bin Laden
... who is now beyond all cares and woe...
at the top of the organization.

Alongside him was Saif al Adel - considered Number Three in the al Qaeda hierarchy, according to an intelligence report seen by Sky News.

The report said: "In the past, he headed up the organization's military and security committees and served for years as its leading strategist.

"He took part in terror attacks against the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998 and the kidnapping of Wall Street Journal news hound Daniel Pearl in Pakistain in 2002, who was later killed by his captors."

It continued: "Al Adel began his career in the Egyptian military, before serving as an officer. He then turned to terror and played a role in the liquidation of former Egyptian president Anwar Sadat in 1981."

The third most senior member of al Qaeda, who was detained in Iran but recently released, is Abu Muhammad al Masri - a member of the movement's military wing.

The report says he too was "involved in the terror attacks in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998, as well as 9/11 and subsequent attacks against British and 'Zionist' targets".

"The Iranians have also released two lesser known, though no less dangerous, operatives, both of Jordanian descent: Khaled El-Arouri (also known as Abou El-Kasam) and Sari Shihab. El-Arouri served as the deputy commander of al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI), under the leadership of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi until he was killed in 2006, and El-Arouri has been personally involved in countless terror attacks."

The five, intelligence sources said, were believed to be still in Iran but there are fears that they will be allowed to leave - probably to refill positions inside al Qaeda's leadership structure that has been mauled by drone attacks in Pakistain, Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria and Somalia.

Some intelligence agencies believe they may be able to travel to Syria, where they could make use of the ungoverned and chaotic landscape to plot attacks outside the country - having agreed not to turn their guns on the regime of Bashar al Assad, which is backed by Tehran.

An intelligence report said: "As far as Western intelligence organizations are concerned, the release by Iran of senior al Qaeda commanders and operatives represents a significant threat. These are dangerous and experienced operatives with a proven track record in executing deadly terror attacks..

#1  The terrorists being set free may end up killing Iran's own surrogate troops in Syria so it may seem illogical. However, the opportunity to humiliate the USA is so great it leads them to do things that actually hurt their own interests.

#2  Of course Iran could have released them on condition of carrying out their instructions, such as attack a particular US or Israeli interest or asset. But the Zero wouldn't allow that would he?
