Afghanistan
Taliban suicide bomber kills 29 in northern Afghanistan
[DAWN] A jacket wallah in Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province has killed 29 people, mainly members of illegal gangs that have clashed with security forces and the snuffies in the past, an Afghan official said Sunday.

Heyatullah Amiri, district administrative chief of Khan Abad district, said a suicide bomber on foot targeted a meeting of criminal groups late Saturday.

Twenty-five of those killed were members of the gangs, including four leaders, while the remaining four were civilians, he said.

Amiri said 19 others were maimed, including 15 civilians.

Taliban front man Zabihullah Mujahid grabbed credit for the attack in an email sent to media.

The Taliban have stepped up attacks across the country since US and NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and organization....
forces shifted from a combat to a support and training role at the end of last year.

In the northern Badakhshan province, Taliban snuffies hanged a 27-year-old mother of three after accusing her of having extramarital sex, said Nawid Frotan, front man for the provincial governor.

Frotan said she was hanged from a tree before a public gathering early Saturday.

In a separate incident, Taliban snuffies beheaded two local coppers and a civilian in Badakhshan on Saturday.

The snuffies accused the three of spying, Frotan said.

In the eastern Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province, a drone strike carried out by Afghan forces killed 15 snuffies and maimed nine others on Saturday, said Hazrat Hussain Mashreqiwal, front man for the provincial police chief.

Mashreqiwal said a separate Arclight airstrike carried out by international forces killed at least 10 holy warriors. He said a major operation is underway in Nangarhar aimed at driving the Taliban out of three districts.
An Nahar adds:
The Afghan interior ministry said all those killed Saturday evening in the Khanabad district of Kunduz province were civilians, although local officials called them anti-Taliban militiamen.

Sayed Sarwar Hussaini, a police front man in Kunduz, also identified the victims of Saturday's bombing as armed militiamen.

With Afghan forces suffering record casualties as foreign troops pull back, Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
is increasingly relying on informal militias as a bulwark against the turbans -- a gambit observers say is akin to fighting fire with fire.

The mobilisation of militias represents a complete departure from previous government efforts to disarm these groups, blamed for devastating Afghanistan during the civil war in the 1990s and setting the stage for a Taliban takeover.

Three Egyptian policeman killed in Sunday shoot-out in Suez and bomb in North Sinai
[AlAhram] The deputy head of a Suez cop shoppe was killed on Sunday in an exchange of fire with two assailants, the third Egyptian policeman to be killed on the same day.

Walid El-Sadek, second in command of Feisal Police Station in Suez, was bumped off near Badr market in Salam City, located in the canal city.

The incident was instigated when two assailants opened fire on elements from the Third Field Army deployed in the market, military front man Mohammed Samir wrote on his Facebook page.

The military cadets who were attacked responded instantly, killing one assailant while the other ran off and is still on the lam with army forces searching the area to capture him, Samir added.

Ibrahim El-Deeb, head of Suez investigative police, says police forces, including El-Sadek, were involved in the exchange, according to Al-Ahram's Arabic website.

Samir confirmed that El-Sadek was killed and that an army cadet, Mohammed Mahmoud, was injured in the exchange. The latter was transferred to the Military Hospital.

Al-Ahram quoted an eyewitness as saying a man snatched a firearm from one of the cadets deployed near the market. The assailant shot the cadet inside his booth, the witness added.

Earlier on Sunday, a roadside kaboom killed two Egyptian coppers as they were travelling in an armoured vehicle in the restive city of Al-Arish in North Sinai, according to the interior ministry.

A police officer and a police conscript were killed. Three other police conscripts were also injured in the incident.

Helicopter arrives in Kufra to transport injured
[Libya Herald] The Libyan government has sent a helicopter to the southern town of Kufra to transport those injured in the recent festivities there.

Communal festivities in the southeastern oasis town has been taking place on-off for months. In July the Tebu-Zwai tribal tit-for-tat killings went kaboom! into bloody armed festivities with some 15 reportedly killed.

The government and its Libyan National Army (LNA) has failed despite numerous efforts to put an end to the long ongoing festivities.

The leader of Kufra city council, Muftah Bukhalil confirmed that in agreement with the Libyan government in Beida, two aircraft would be sent to his town bringing medicine and fuel and taking the injured back.

Africa Subsaharan
Suspected Boko Haram gunmen kill four in road ambush in Nigeria's Borno state
[AlAhram] Suspected Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
gunnies killed four people on Sunday in a road ambush in Nigeria's restive northeastern state of Borno, a military source and a civilian joint task force said.

A car carrying six people came under attack on the Damboa-Biu road near the remote village of Nwajurko at about 9:30 a.m. (0830 GMT), the military source said.

The myrmidon group, which has killed thousands of people during its six-year armed campaign to set up an Islamic state in northeastern Nigeria, has carried out several attacks on the Damboa-Biu road in the last two years.

"Four of the passengers were rubbed out by Boko Haram while two others who fled the ambush sustained injuries partly from gunshots," said the military source, who did not want to be named.

Adamu Mamman of the civilian JTF, a grassroots community security group, confirmed the four deaths.

"When we heard of the ambush ... we mobilised our men to go to the scene but unfortunately we saw four people already dead," he said.

Mamman said one of the survivors from the ambush had described how the attackers opened fire on the car when the driver tried to speed off.

Borno is the birthplace of the jihadi Boko Haram sect, which has killed more than 600 people in a series of raids and bombings since President Muhammadu Buhari took office on May 29, vowing to crush the myrmidon group.

At the start of the year Boko Haram controlled territory about the size of Belgium in the northeast, but the army said it had pushed the group from most of that area in the last few months with the help of troops from Chad, Niger and Cameroon

Arabia
Yemen Loyalists Retake Southern Provincial Capital
[AnNahar] Forces loyal to Yemen's exiled government recaptured a southern historic provincial capital from Iranian catspaws and their allies on Sunday as they pressed an advance from second city Aden.

Zinjibar, capital of Abyan
...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...

who is allied with the rebels.

Troops entered the coastal town, some 50 kilometers (30 miles) east of Aden, after overrunning the brigade's barracks outside with support from Saudi-led air strikes, military sources said.

Residents of Zinjibar forced out by fighting that devastated their city also returned Sunday to take stock of the damage, a relief official said.

But many, including loyalist fighters, bit the dust as they stepped on mines planted by the rebels before they withdrew from the city.

At least 19 people were killed and 163 maimed on Saturday and Sunday in Zinjibar and the surrounding area, Aden health chief Al-Khader Laswar told AFP.

Mines and unwent kaboom! ordnance have caused similarly high corpse counts in Aden itself since the rebels' pullout last month, with dozens of civilians reported killed and hundreds maimed.

Zinjibar is the third southern historic provincial capital from which the rebels have been driven out.

The loyalists secured Aden in mid-July and restive Lahj

Aden was the last refuge of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi before he fled into exile in neighboring Soddy Arabia

in March.

Riyadh has since led a bombing campaign and air and sea blockade against the Iran-backed rebels and their allies in a bid to restore his authority.

It has also provided training and equipment to loyalist forces and earlier this month reportedly deployed hundreds of ground troops to Aden.

The capture of Zinjibar came three days after tribal and military sources said Saudi Arabia sent tanks, armored vehicles and personnel carriers to back the loyalist forces.

Hundreds of Yemeni soldiers trained in the oil-rich kingdom were also sent to bolster Hadi's forces, the sources said on Thursday.

The recapture of Zinjibar is expected to strengthen the position of loyalist forces as they expand their zone of control in southern Yemen

Officials: Saudi-led friendly fire in Yemen kills 20
[Ynet] Yemeni security officials and pro-government fighters said Sunday a Saudi-led coalition Arclight airstrike hit allied fighters in a friendly fire incident, killing at least 20.

The officials said the incident happened late Saturday as the fighters were on a coastal road heading toward the embattled city of Zinjibar in southern Yemen.

The Saudi-led, American-supported coalition began launching Arclight airstrikes in March against the Shiite Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Russia paratroop chief says force willing to fight in Syria
[NOW.] Colonel General Vladimir Shamanov's comments come after Washington announced air cover for US-trained rebels in Syria.

BEIRUT -- The head of Russia's elite Airborne Troops has indicated his willingness to deploy his force to Syria for counter terror missions, days after Moscow blasted Washington's decision to provide air cover for US-trained rebels.

When asked by a Syrian reporter if Russian Airborne Troops would assist the Assad regime, Colonel General Vladimir Shamanov responded that "we will execute the decisions set forth by the country's leadership, if there is a task at hand."
That statement is a work of art.
He also highlighted the close military ties between Moscow and Damascus, according to a report published late Tuesday by Russia's ITAR-TASS news agency. Hours after Shamanov's comments, Russian President Vladimir Putin's press secretary denied that Damascus has asked Russia to send troops to fight ISIS.

"No, this isn't being discussed in any way. This issue isn't on the agenda," Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

The comments by the Russian Airborne Troops commander come as Moscow has been working to broker a quadripartite anti-ISIS alliance that would bring together Syria, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Jordan.

Regional diplomatic efforts to resolve the Syrian conflict have picked up in recent days, with Russia, Saudi Arabia and the US holding a trilateral talk on the issue Monday in Qatar. Just as talks have gathered pace, both Turkey and the US dramatically expanded their military roles in Syria.

Turkey two weeks ago directly entered the conflict in Syria with bombing raids on ISIS as it seeks, with US assistance, to create a "safe zone" that would clear ISIS away from Syria's border with Turkey.

Washington, in turn, on July 31 officially authorized its military to conduct airstrikes against any force threatening US-trained rebels entering the conflict in northern Syria.

In a press conference Monday, US White House press secretary Josh Earnest further warned Damascus not to "interfere" with US-trained rebels, and threatened "additional steps" if the Syrian regime took any action against them.

Russia's foreign minister shot back at the Washington statement, calling it "counterproductive."

"It's counterproductive to announce publicly that some US-trained armed groups... will be under the protection of the coalition's air forces," Sergei Lavrov said Monday.

One dead, 10 injured in Istanbul attacks
[CNN] One person was reported killed and 10 others were injured after an Istanbul police station was attacked early Monday, first with a bomb and then guns. Two attackers were also killed after police returned fire, according to Turkey's semi-official Anadolu news agency.
Reports on Twitter say a higher number of Turkish policemen are dead.
The violence started around 1 a.m. in the Sultanbeyli district when a vehicle-bomb exploded near the police station, injuring at least 10 people. Then, around 6:45 a.m., attackers opened fire on security forces who were guarding the damaged police station.

Two assailants were killed in the gunfight, and a police officer who was injured later died at the hospital.

Also Monday, shots were fired near the U.S. consulate in Istanbul. Turkish authorities have detained one person suspected of involvement in the shooting and are searching for another.

Report: 390 PKK killed in Turkish air raids, 400 wounded
[RUDAW.NET] Recent Turkish Arclight airstrikes against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party in northern Iraq have killed 390 PKK members and injured 400, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's official Anadolu Agency on Sunday quoted unidentified security sources as saying.

"Turkish security sources are claiming to have killed a total of 390 murderous Moslems from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in a series of recent air strikes against rebel targets in northern Iraq," the agency said.

"An anonymous security force source also told Anadolu Agency that 400 PKK turbans were maimed in the attacks," the agency added.

Giving a partial list of targets, it said they included an air raid on the Bokriskan region of Iraq, in which a PKK battalion commander, identified as Sehit Dilan, was killed along with four other leaders, and 30 other murderous Moslems were maimed.

More than 20 PKK members, including the head of its women's branch -- identified by her code name Gulten -- were killed in an attack on the group's Zergele camp in Iraqi Kurdistan's Qandil mountains.

In Enze in northern Iraq, buildings used as PKK headquarters were destroyed and almost 30 female murderous Moslems were killed, according to the sources quoted by AA.

It added that, "More than 20 security force personnel have been killed in attacks mostly attributed to the PKK and at least 1,300 people tossed in the calaboose
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
in operations targeting various holy warrior groups."

Tensions in Turkey escalated after the PKK grabbed credit for assassinating two coppers in Gaziantep last month, ending a shaky grinding of the peace processor with Ankara that began in 2013.

The latest hostilities have brought that grinding of the peace processor to a halt.

A fortnight ago, Turkish air force jets and artillery began a hail of attacks against the PKK, including Arclight airstrikes and artillery fire on PKK camps in the Kurdistan Region's Qandil Mountains.

U.S. sends six jets, 300 personnel to Turkey base in Islamic State fight
[REUTERS] The United States sent six F-16 jets and about 300 personnel to Incirlik Air Base in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

on Sunday, the U.S. military said, after Ankara agreed last month to allow American planes to launch air strikes against Islamic State

snuffies from there.

The Pentagon said in a statement the "small detachment" is from the 31st Fighter Wing based at Aviano Air Base, Italia. Support equipment was also sent but no details were provided.

"The United States and Turkey, as members of the 60-plus nation coalition, are committed to the fight against ISIL in the pursuit of peace and stability in the region," the statement said, using an acronym for Islamic State.

The ability to fly manned bombing raids out of Incirlik, a major base used by both U.S. and Turkish forces, against targets in nearby Syria could be a big advantage. Such flights have had to fly mainly from the Gulf.

Turkey's decision last month to allow use of the base follows longtime reluctance by Ankara to become engaged in the fight against Islamist turbans.

Soldier, Two Militants Killed in Kashmir Gun Battles
[AnNahar] An Indian soldier and two suspected snuffies were killed in Kashmire in two separate shootouts along the de facto border that divides the restive territory between India and Pakistain, police said Sunday.

The two snuffies died when a group of suspected armed rebels crossed the border into India and were intercepted by soldiers, triggering a shootout in Keran, 150 kilometers (90 miles) northwest of Kashmire's main city of Srinagar.

"According to sources in the army two snuffies were killed early Sunday morning in the shootout," Javaid Gillani, the inspector general of police for the region, told Agence La Belle France Presse.

An Indian army soldier was killed Saturday night in a similar but separate shootout in the adjacent sector of Tangdhar along the heavily-militarized border, Gillani added.

The latest shootouts follow a recent uptick in cross border exchanges of heavy fire between Indian and Pak troops.

Among them was an attack on an Indian Border Security Force convoy last week in which two border guards and a Death Eater were killed. Another Death Eater was captured.

India said the captured Death Eater confessed to be a Pak national but Islamabad has rejected the claim.

Kashmire has been divided between the South Asian rivals since they won independence from Britannia in 1947. Both claim the disputed territory in its entirety.

Since 1989, several rebel groups have been fighting hundreds of thousands of Indian forces deployed in the region, for independence or a merger of the Himalayan territory with Pakistain.

The fighting has left tens of thousands, mostly civilians, dead.

India often accuses Pakistain of pushing armed snuffies across the border, a charge Islamabad denies, saying it only provides diplomatic and moral support to the Kashmiri people's struggle for the right to self determination.

Pakistani woman critically wounded during exchange of fire along LoC
[DAWN] Pak and Indian forces shot it out along the Line of Control on Monday during which a Pak woman was critically maimed in Jandrot sector, according to a report on the Radio Pakistain website.

The woman sustained serious bullet wounds as a result of "unprovoked firing" by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Jandrot sector along the LoC, according to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations.

An Indian news website quoted an unnamed defence official as saying that the exchange of fire had initiated from the Pak side. The website added that 120mm mortal shells were also fired by the Pak forces.

ISIS bomb facility destroyed on Makhmour front

(ISIS) group on the Makhmour front, a Peshmerga official said.

"An ISIS bomb-manufacturing factory for light bombs and heavy weapons was destroyed by coalition Arclight airstrikes on Sunday in the village of Kharbaniya on the Makhmour front," said Colonel Mahdi, the Peshmerga spokesperson at the front.

"The warplanes also bombed ISIS hard boyz in the village of Kodila Shian in western Makhmour," he said, adding that possible ISIS casualties from that attack were still unknown.

The destruction of the bomb-making facility followed an ISIS missile attack on the town of Makhmour on Wednesday, in which a 20-year-old woman was reportedly killed and two other women were badly maimed.

ISIS positions are less than 20 kilometers from Makhmour. Due to the proximity, Peshmerga forces have strengthened security measures there.

Peshmerga officials claim that ISIS can no longer advance into the Kurdistan region's borders.

Swede suspected of passing intelligence to Hezbollah
[Ynet] Hassan Hizran was tasked with collecting useful information on Israel and recruiting Israeli Arab assets to Hezbollah ranks.

A Swedish national of Paleostinian-Lebanese descent suspected of passing intelligence to Hezbollah was indicted on three criminal counts on Sunday, including passing of information and contacting a foreign agent.

Hassan Khalil Hizran, 55, was tossed in the calaboose
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
at Ben Gurion International Airport on July 21 on his way to Israel. Swedish authorities were updated about the arrest.

According to the indictment, Hizran joined Hezbollah in the summer of 2009 as an intelligence source. He was tasked with recruiting Israeli Arab assets with social ties to Jewish Israelis, army officials and government officials, which he refrained from doing despite pressure from his handlers.

He was also tasked with collecting any useful and relevant information about Israel, including places in which there are large concentrations of IDF troops, arms, tanks and military bases.

To that end he visited Israel several times, and then met with his Hezbollah handlers in Beirut to provide them with the information he collected, according to the indictment.

Hizran's Hezbollah handlers pressured him to continue broadening the information he provided them with using visual documentation, but he refrained from doing so.

Hizran told Shin Bet Sherlocks that in 2009, during a family trip to Leb with his wife and children, he was offered to meet with Hezbollah agents and agreed.

In his secret meetings with Hezbollah, he was told the organization was interested in recruiting Paleostinians with European passports so they could use their passports to enter and move freely through Israel and gather intelligence for Hezbollah.

He visited Leb again in 2011 and 2013, when he also met with Hezbollah agents.

For his meetings with the Hezbollah agents and agreeing to cooperate with them, Hizran received $2,300 in 2009 and an addition $800 in 2011.

Hezbollah, Hizran told Sherlocks, was also interested in information about the operations of Ben Gurion International airport, including the entry process and security checks.

Hizran also provided Shin Bet Sherlocks with information about a group called "The Lebanese House" that operates in Malmö, Sweden. The members of the group are Shiites who are involved in social and cultural Shiite activity, mark Hezbollah anniversaries, watch speech of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, and more.

The Shin Bet said in a statement that the tasks Hizran received from his Hezbollah handlers are "proof that Hezbollah is preparing for the next war with Israel and is marking out a 'target bank.'"

Hizran's Israeli lawyer, Leah Tsemel, denied the charges, telling Rooters that he "refused any request to harm Israel's security."

Israeli troops kill Palestinian who stabbed civilian in West Bank
"Mostly peaceful Palestinian yout." MSM/SJW
Israeli troops shot dead a Palestinian hard boy who stabbed and lightly injured an Israeli civilian on Sunday at a petrol station in the occupied West Bank, authorities said.

"In a stabbing attack at a gas station... between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, one civilian was wounded and a suspect shot and wounded by soldiers," an army statement said.

Police said that the alleged assailant, a Palestinian from the nearby village of Khirbet Al Misbah, died of a leg wound shortly after the attack.

They said in a statement that the stabbing victim, a Jewish Israeli, was wounded in the shoulder. The petrol station where the incident took place is on the busy highway 443, southwest of Ramallah, a major artery between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, which cuts through the West Bank for several kilometres.

Public radio said the Israeli was stabbed while filling his car.

In a later statement the army said it believed another three assailants may have been involved in the attack and troops were scouring the area.

IS battles Syria rebels for key supply lifeline: Monitor

group advanced Sunday against rival rebel forces, including Islamists, in a bid to capture a series of key villages in northern Syria, a monitor said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said IS jihadists seized full control of Umm Housh, one of four villages in the northern province of Aleppo that lie along a rebel supply line from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, which is a major backer of Syria's opposition.

"IS is trying to seize control of these villages from rebels to cut their supply route between Aleppo city and its outskirts, and the town of Azaz," a rebel bastion near the border, said Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman.

He said two IS jacket wallahs, one using a suicide belt and one in a bomb-laden car, began the assault on the villages on Saturday night.

The ensuing festivities, which continued throughout Sunday, left at least 37 rebel fighters and 10 IS jihadists dead, Abdel Rahman added.

Another twenty rebels were reported missing in action.

IS has swept through territory in Iraq and Syria in an effort to build a cross-border "caliphate," and sees both the regime of Bashir al-Assad and rival rebel factions as its enemies.

And in recent months, the Assad regime has suffered major losses in Syria's north and east, as well as near its coastal heartland of Latakia province.

On Sunday, a powerful rebel coalition swept through additional villages in the Sahl al-Ghab plain, which borders the provinces of Latakia and Idlib, the Observatory said.

The Army of Conquest, which includes Al-Qaeda affiliate Al-Nusra Front, has edged closer to the regime's regional military headquarters in Jureen.

If the rebels manage to capture Jureen, they will be able to advance into the mountains of Latakia and bomb several communities from Assad's Alawite sect, an offshoot of Shiite Islam.

The Alawite bastion of Latakia city has seen tensions in recent days after a Syrian air force official was killed by Sleiman al-Assad, a cousin of the president.

On Saturday, more than 1,000 people erupted into the streets in the city to protest the killing of Colonel Hassan al-Sheikh and to demand the execution of Sleiman al-Assad.

And on Sunday, Syria's official news agency SANA said the corpse count from a rebel rocket attacks on the capital Damascus had risen to 11, including three children.

SANA said 46 people were also maimed, some critically, and that 10 of the dead were killed in the central Ath-Thawra neighbourhood while the 11th person was killed in a nearby district.

The Britannia-based Observatory, which uses a broad network of sources in Syria to gather information, confirmed the new toll.

Insurgents recapture villages on Syrian plain vital to Assad
[AnAhram] Insurgents have regained control of several villages in northwest Syria from government forces and have advanced beyond them, edging closer to a coastal stronghold of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Lord of the Baath...
, a monitoring group and other sources said on Sunday.

The hard boyz launched a counter-offensive after government forces, backed by allied bad boy groups, last week recaptured the villages on the Sahl al-Ghab plain, which lies close to the city of Hama and is crucial to the defence of coastal mountains that are the heartland of Assad's minority Alawite sect.

group and other factions.

On Sunday, the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Islamist fighters' counter-offensive had forced the Syrian army to withdraw from such villages as Mansoura, Zeyara and Tal Waset towards bases northwest of Hama city.

Seven government warplanes and helicopters carried out 80 strikes on the villages located on the plain, the Observatory added.

A source close to the Syrian government confirmed the rebel advances in the area.

The hard boyz have made gains in several parts of Syria in recent months, including capturing most of Idlib province to the northeast of the Sahl al-Ghab plain.

Last month Assad alluded to military setbacks when he said the army had been forced to give up some areas in order to hold onto more important ones

ISIS air served, especially
h/t Instapundit
SAS sniper gunned down a knife-wielding Islamic State (ISIS) maniac just as he was trying to brutally behead a father and his young son.

...British marksman saved the terrified eight-year-old and his father after taking out the crazed jihadi with a head shot from 1,000 metres away.

The special forces crack shot then killed two other members of the hated terror group, who were also taking part in the sick planned execution.

ISIS militants had decreed that the little boy and his father must die after branding them "infidels" because they refused to denounce their faith.

They were just seconds from death when the hero sniper intervened to stop the barbaric killing in the Syrian desert. The pair were part of the minority Shia sect of Islam which ISIS considers to be heretical.

targets, the U.S. military said.

In Iraq, five air strikes near djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...

Falluja, Tal Afar, Makhmur and Kabbaniyah, it said.

The air strikes in Syria were concentrated around Hasaka, Aleppo and Kobani, where they struck a bunker, a tank, anti-aircraft artillery pieces and tactical units, it said.
