Afghanistan
Explosion rocks Taluqan city in northeastern Takhar province
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A relatively heavy kaboom rocked Taluqan city in northeastern Badakhshan province this afternoon leaving at least 10 people maimed.

The incident took place near the provincial criminal investigation department with eyewitnesses in the area saying at least 10 people including coppers, women and kiddies were maimed.

Officials in provincial hospital confirmed that two coppers, a child and a woman were taken to the hospital for treatment following the incident.

The type of the kaboom is not clear so far as the local security officials have not commented regarding the incident yet.

Taliban take control of a joint military base in Badakhshan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Talibs have taken control of a joint military base in northeastern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan, it has been reported.

Security sources in Badakhshan have said a number of the Afghan cops have surrendered to Talibs following three days of heavy festivities.

The sources speaking on the condition of anonymity said the forces have also surrendered their weapons along with equipment to the Talibs.

In the meantime, the provincial council chief confirmed that a number of the Afghan Local Police and Afghan Border Protection Police forces have joined the Talibs after they partly took control of a joint base in Teergaran area of Wardoj district.

This comes as the acting provincial governor Shahwaliullah Adeeb said the gunnies have surrounded a military base in Teergaran area and warned that scores of Afghan soldiers would lose their lives if immediate actions are not taken by the government to repulse the attack.

The Afghan national security forces repelled two attacks by the Talibs on Thursday and Friday in Wardoj district, leaving a number of Talibs dead.

Deputy provincial governor Gul Mohammad Bidar said the Talibs launched their first attack early on Thursday morning which was repelled by the Afghan forces, leaving four gunnies dead and three others maimed.

Badakhshan is among the relatively volatile provinces in northeastern Afghanistan where the anti-government armed hard boy groups are actively operating and frequently carry out insurgency activities.

This comes s hundreds of gunnies armed with heavy and light weapons launched a coordinated attack on security check posts in Yamgan district last month, forcing the Afghan troops to tactically step back in a bid to prevent the civilian casualties.

Two rockets land in Kabul airport, no casualties reported
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Two back to back kabooms rocked capital Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
earlier tonight after two rockets landed in Kabul International Airport .

The rockets were fired from an unknown location which landed inside the airport without causing any casualties or damage to the airport.

A security official confirmed that one of the rockets landed close to the runway but did not cause any damage or loss of life.

The twin blasts caused panic among the local residents as the security is rapidly deteriorating across the country.

No group including the Talibs has so far grabbed credit behind the attack.

This comes as the Afghan cops thwarted a deadly attack in capital Kabul by arresting a jacket wallah and seizing a Vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive device (VBIED).

The Afghan Intelligence -- National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS) also thwarted a plot by the murderous Moslem groups to carry out rocket attack on Kabul city over a week ago.

According to NDS officials, the forces of Evil had set up two BM-1 rockets in the 8th police district to target the city during the Eid al-Fitr days.

[Iran Press TV] At least five people have been killed in a US terror drone strike in the eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
, officials say.

The aerial offensive occurred on Saturday afternoon and killed both civilians and anti-government holy warriors, officials in Nangarhar said on Saturday.

US military officials maintain their drone attacks in Afghanistan aim to target gangs active there but field reports say civilians make up the majority of the victims.

Afghan officials said that 13 Death Eaters of the Taliban terrorist group were killed in festivities with government forces in the northeastern province of Badakhshan.

"At least 13 Talibs including three foreign nationals have been killed in Tirgaran area over the past two days," China's official Xinhua news agency quoted Colonel Sakhi Dad Haidari, a deputy provincial police chief, as saying on Saturday, adding that the government forces have been fighting tooth and nail to evict Talibs from the area.

The incident happened when the Afghan forces repelled an attack launched by Death Eaters to take control of the strategically important Tirgaran valley in the rugged Warduj district of the province.

... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
have killed six people, including an MP and a senior government official, in two separate attacks in the capital Mogadishu, police says.

In the first incident on Saturday, Somali politician Abdullahi Huseen Mohammed was killed along with his bodyguards during a drive-by shooting, DPA quoted police officer Ali Hassan Kulmiye as as saying without any reference to the number of the bodyguards.

The armed assailants then managed to flee the scene.

added the police officer.

Earlier in the day, a senior government official, identified as Said Ali Salah, was killed in a separate drive-by shooting, the report added, citing Mohammed Hassan, a security bigshot.

An ensuing exchange of gunfire between the assailants and the bodyguards left two civilians dead, according to local police accounts.

Al-Shabaab, meanwhile, grabbed credit for both the attacks on the pro-insurgent radio station Andalus.

"We are still counting the dead and maimed," Bakari said by phone Saturday night.

Boko Haram strikes in Borno again, kills 21
[Guardian Ng] At least 21 people were killed in a new attack by suspected Islamists in a village in northeastern Borno state, causing many to flee, residents said Saturday.

"The bandidos bully boyz stormed Maikadiri around 9:00 am (0800 GMT Friday) and opened fire on hapless citizens," said resident Simon Templer.

"They laid siege in daylight because there are no soldiers or police nearby," said another resident, Markus Ali, adding: "We counted 21 corpses."

The attackers "killed, destroyed and then fled," Ali said.

A police officer in the Borno state capital Maiduguri confirmed the attack while requesting anonymity.

Templer added: "My aged mother is currently in the bush. Most of our people have fled and many houses and shops have been burnt."

Maikadari is in southern Borno near the vast Sambisa forest, a longstanding hideout of the Islamist group Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
The Nigerian army has led a series of raids against them in recent months, succeeding in freeing several dozen women and kiddies from the hands of Boko Haram.

But several state governors in the region have said this week that the group continues to occupy the forest.

The Boko Haram insurgency and efforts to quell it have claimed more than 15,000 lives and displaced 1.5 million people since 2009.
An Nahar adds:
Two other villages close to Maikadiri in southern Borno state were also attacked, said Maina Ularamu, chief of the Madagali district.

"The gunnies arrived on 10 cycle of violences, two or three on each bike and attacked Kopa, Maikadiri and Yaffa" villages, he told AFP. He said four people were killed in Yaffa.

He claimed that the gunnies used to live in the villages before joining Boko Haram.

"Now they have no limits and they are preying on their own community because of the pressure the army offensive has put on them," Ularamu said.

Ularamu said the gunnies may have been taking their Dire Revenge on their former neighbours.

"The attacked their community because they would not let them back when the army attacked their camps. Those who tried to come back were denounced and tossed in the calaboose
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
by the authorities," he said.

Fatima Saleh, who lives in the neighbouring village of Maigana, told AFP she saw the attackers pass and recognised many of them as locals.

since March 26, aiming to push them back from southern and central areas and restore the country's exiled government.

News of the ceasefire came after 80 people were killed in an air strike on the central Yemeni city of Taiz earlier Saturday in which at least 150 were maimed.

A week-long U.N.-brokered truce in fighting failed earlier this month after Soddy Arabia

said it had not been asked by Hadi, in whose name it is acting, to stop its raids.

A letter by Hadi, who fled to Riyadh, to the King of Saudi Arabia on Friday asked for the ceasefire to allow for humanitarian supplies to be delivered to the war-torn country, the state news agency SPA said.

The latest ceasefire announcement states coalition forces will stop all military activities but reserve the right to respond to violations by the Iran-allied Shi'ite Houthis and pro-Saleh forces.

Australian Daesh medic arrested on return home
[ARABNEWS] An Australian nurse who says he was forced by Daesh to work as a medic in Syria was tossed in the slammer
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
after returning home and faces terrorism-related charges of supporting the movement.

Adam Brookman, 39, was arrested at Sydney International Airport on Friday night on a Victoria state warrant relating to his alleged involvement in the conflict in Syria, Australian Federal Police said in a statement on Saturday.

He is the first Australian involved with Daesh known to have returned home since the fighters swept into western Iraq in June last year and declared the establishment of a caliphate, Monash University terrorism expert Greg Barton said.

"He's certainly the first Australian to come back from Daesh-controlled territory having lived and worked among holy warriors," Barton said. "Culpability is the nub of the issue here."

Dozens of Australians who are suspected of fighting with militias in the Middle East have previously returned home. But none has been charged because of a lack of proof.

Brookman appeared from a police cell by video link in the Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday, where a magistrate granted an application by the Melbourne Joint Counter Terrorism Team to extradite him to his hometown of Melbourne in Victoria. He is to appear in a Melbourne court no later than Monday morning on two charges that each carries a maximum of 25 years in prison.

Court documents show both charges allege that Brookman knowingly provided support to the Daesh movement by undertaking guard duty and reconnaissance for the holy warriors. That support would allegedly help the group "prepare or foster" a terrorist act.

The court was told that a warrant for Brookman's arrest was issued on Friday. Brookman did not speak during his brief appearance.

He surrendered to Turkish officials in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
on Tuesday and voluntarily flew back to Australia with a police escort.

Brookman, a Moslem convert and father of five children who live in Melbourne, told Fairfax Media in May that he went to Syria last year to do humanitarian work for civilians caught in the war. He said he was innocent of any crime and was forced to join Daesh Lions of Islam after being injured in an Arclight airstrike and taken to a hospital controlled by the group at Al-Bab in Aleppo province.

"After I recovered, they wouldn't let me leave," he told Fairfax.

He won the holy warriors' trust by working as a medic and was able to escape to Turkey in December, he said.

Brookman told Fairfax that he opposed the violent and extreme actions of the holy warriors, including the beheading of their captives.

Turkey strikes Kurdish militants in Iraq, ends truce of more than 2 years
[WASHINGTONPOST] Turkish warplanes struck Kurdish gunnies in northern Iraq early Saturday, expanding and complicating the air war launched by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. in Syria the day before.

The strikes targeted weapons-storage facilities and camps belonging to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, at its Mount Qandil headquarters in the remote mountains of Iraqi Kurdistan, according to a government statement.

There were also strikes for a second night in a row against the Islamic State in Syria, indicating that Turkey is now actively engaged in the war against the gunnies after months on the sidelines.

The strikes against Kurds in Iraq opened a second front for Turkey, effectively ending a two-year truce with the PKK that had been a signature achievement of then-Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan

's government.

The PKK issued a statement saying that the cease-fire, which had already been strained by a number of PKK attacks in Turkey, is now off. "This truce has no meaning anymore," it said.

Home Front: WoT
Daniel Greenfield: Deport the Abdulazeez family.
[Freedom Center] Before and after 9/11, the FBI took a hard look at Youssef Abdulazeez because he had apparently donated money to Hamas through a front group. He went on a watch list. He went off the watch list. The FBI forgot about him until his son, Mohammod Youssef Abdulazeez, went on a Jihadist killing spree in Chattanooga.

Just like the Tsarnaev terrorists, the media is digging into the background of this dysfunctional Muslim family. We have learned that Youssef Abdulazeez liked to beat and rape his wife. He even wanted to get a second wife to rape and beat, as permitted "under Islamic law... in the parties' native State of Palestine." He also included some of his kids in his Koran-approved domestic abuse.

The family is issuing statements claiming that their son, like every Muslim terrorist ever, was suffering from "depression" and that Islam is a peaceful religion. But the father's donations to Hamas and the rants about America, Israel and Europe on his family's social media tell a very different story.

The only obvious conclusion from all this is that the Abdulazeez family, like the Tsarnaevs, should never have been allowed into this country. And after 9/11, they should not have been allowed to stay.

Their history of domestic abuse and terrorism is abnormal by American standards, but normal by Muslim ones. The Abdulazeez family's native Jordan has unprecedentedly high levels of support for Al Qaeda and ISIS. Honor killings of women continue to have support from inside the political system.

It's a pity Norman Schwarzkopf is dead.
Comparing the struggle against the terror group to what he described as the 50-year-long anti-terrorism campaign in Colombia, Head of the US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) Army General Joseph Votel argued Friday before the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado that when the ISIL murderous Moslems face strong resistance in one theater of operations, they turn attention to another.

"I don't believe there's any one strategy that we are going to apply that is immediately going to change this," Votel said. "It's going to take a long-term approach, understanding what is happening, making smart decisions and continuing to apply pressure -- whether that is military pressure, diplomatic pressure, economic pressure, (or) informational pressure against violent hard boys."

Bomb kills monk, soldier in southern Thailand
[Bangkok Post] A Buddhist monk and a Thai soldier were killed and six others were wounded when a bomb hidden in a garbage bin went off in Pattani province early Saturday.

Police were alerted about the bombing on the road to the Sai Buri district police station in Taluban municipality. The responding policemen found eight people wounded at the scene. Three of them were members of an army team assigned to protect Buddhist monks. Two of them were monks and the remaining three were local residents. The soldiers were on duty guarding the monks while they took morning alms when a bomb hidden in a garbage bin exploded.

The army on Saturday condemned the bombing, calling the militants responsible "extremists" who wanted to derail efforts to restore peace in the region. Internal Security Operations Command spokesman Banpote Poonpien said the militants were a minority group trying to block "peace momentum" in the far South. They had targeted the monks to create a religious divide in the area, he said.

Kurds 'Gain Ground in Syria's Hasakeh' in IS Fightback
[AnNahar] Kurdish militia have expanded their control over portions of a major Syrian city in their fightback against the Islamic State

group, to the detriment of government forces there, a monitor said Saturday.

"The Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) are advancing in Hasakeh city against IS and at the expense of the regime," said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The YPG and government forces have both been defending the city from an IS assault, which began last month.

The Britannia-based Observatory said the YPG now controls a majority of the metropolis, despite Kurds making up just under a third of its population.

"The YPG control 70 percent of Hasakeh city, IS controls 10 percent and the regime controls 20 percent," Abdel Rahman told Agence La Belle France Presse.

Before the IS began its offensive by seizing territory in southern neighborhoods from regime forces, the Kurdish militia controlled less than half of Hasakeh.

When the YPG pushed the jihadists out of some of these areas, they maintained control of them.

The YPG also directly expanded into areas held by loyalists in the city center, although it did not engage in festivities with them.

The militia now hold territory in Hasakeh north, west, center and south, said Abdel Rahman, with IS left "surrounded" in four small neighborhoods in the south.

Jihadi John flees to Syria fearing ISIS have no further use for him
[MIRROR.CO.UK] British terrorist Mohammed Emwazi -- known as Jihadi John -- has fled the IS terror network and gone on the run in Syria, according to sources.

He is said to have been terrified by the publicity when he was identified as the murderer of British and American hostages and fears being hunted down.

British and American special forces are in both Iraq and Syria.

One of their priorities is to find the 26-year-old from London and either bring him to justice or kill him.

Emwazi is also believed to fear his unmasking had diminished his value as an IS killer and also that jealous fellow jihadists might plot against him.

#2  You noticed that too. About two weeks ago the reporter slipped and allowed that some attacks were carried out by drones. Since we are trying to crawl on our bellies in the hope that Turkey, our totally undependable "ally", will let us use its Incirlik airbase, the report also gave away the fact that the attacks were initiated from a drone base in Kurdistan. Of the 31 strikes, I would estimate that 12 were carried out by drones, and thus the 19 manned aircraft attacks you noted is still SOP.

Kurds fight the ISIS group while being bombed by Turkey
[RUDAW.NET] Turkish jets struck camps belonging to Kurdish forces of Evil good in northern Iraq Friday and Saturday in what were the first strikes since a peace deal was announced in 2013.

The strikes in Iraq targeted the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, whose affiliates have been effective in battling the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group.

The Kurds of Syria and Iraq have become a major part of the war against the Islamic State group, with Kurdish populations in both countries threatened by the holy warriors' advance. Syrian, Iraqi and Turkish Kurds took part in cross-border operations to help rescue tens of thousands of displaced people from the minority Yazidi group from Iraq's Shingal Mountain in August last year and they continue to fight in cooperation with one another against the Islamic State group in areas along the Iraq-Syria border.

They have been somewhat effective in limiting the expansion of the Islamic State forces of Evil across northern Iraq but there are concerns that Turkish Arclight airstrikes on the PKK could jeopardize Kurdish positions.
The Times of Israel adds:
The jets hit PKK shelters, bunkers, caves, storages facilities and other "logistical points," the Turkish government statement said. Areas targeted included the Qandil mountains, where the PKK's command is based.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's military also shelled IS and PKK positions from across the Turkish border, the government said.

#1  Effective Kurds have been beating ISIS pretty well. This is more evidence that the Turks have helped ISIS, at least clandestinely, in the style of the Pakistani ISI re: Taliban.

We need to treat the Turks as a hostiles - and back the Kurds fully in their liberation of a homeland carved out of Kurd majority areas in southeast Turkey.

But we will not.

Those airstraikes were seen all the way by US controllers, and Obama had them sit on their hands, and do nothing.

Eventually the Turks will pay for this in blood - there is always a reckoning for this kind of crap. Whats worse, is now the Kurds are seeing the US for what we are: feckless and weak, and unreliable as an ally.

#5  The newer generation trusted us - we did do them right (under Bill Clinton, of all people) for a while, and they were the best to work with after 9/11. Then the rot set in on our side of the relationship - we suddenly became more sensitive to Iran and Turkey than the Kurds. Right about the time ValJar and JugEars showed up.
