Ansar launches rocket attacks in Benghazi
[Libya Herald] Fighters, believed to be members of Ansar Al-Sharia, launched a heavy barrage of mortars and rockets in parts of Benghazi this evening. It is very violent, head of the Special Forces investigation Department Fadel Al-Hassi told the Libya Herald. The areas affected are Leithi, Buatni and Shibna, he said. Ansar, he claimed, were firing rockets at random. One, he added, had hit a family home in Shibna. He did not know if there had been casualties.

The rest of the city, however, is calm.

The violence is thought to be a response by Ansar to the Libya National Armys announcement of ceasefire. The LNA has said, however, that the truce will not happen in Benghzi or Derna because there it is fighting terrorism.

A fortnight ago, the LNA claimed to have almost full control of Leithi, hitherto regarded as an Ansar stronghold.

Continuing low level clashes in Benghazi have killed at least eight people and wounded 24 in the past six days according to the citys hospitals. The figure is probably higher as some of those wounded are taken outside Benghazi.

A police officer at the scene of the latest bombing said four bodies and 48 injured people had been taken away.

The bomber "blew up his car at a bus station," said the officer, asking not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

A nurse at the Potiskum General Hospital gave a similar death and injury toll, and said local residents had rushed to the hospital in search of their loved ones.

Anti-balaka militia chief arrested in CAR
[FRANCE24] UN peacekeepers in Central African Republic have tossed in the slammer
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
a big shot of the anti-balaka militia, wanted for crimes including murder, rebellion, rape and looting, the countrys senior prosecutor said on Sunday.

Rodrigue Ngaibona, known as Andilo, was detained in Bouca, around 300 km (195 miles) north of the capital Bangui on Saturday.

Central African Republic was plunged into chaos when the mostly Moslem Seleka
...a 'mainly' Moslem rebel force in the Central African Republic that overthrew the govt, imposed a regime of rapine and looting on the country's non-Moslem population, and was then tossed by France. They still exist, getting funding and weapons from somewhere or other, licking their wounds, complaining about the oppression of Moslems, and occasionally raping and looting someone...
rebels seized power in the majority Christian country in 2013. Abuses under their brief rule spawned a backlash from the Christian and animist anti-balaka.

A U.N. commission of inquiry, in a report published this month, found that the anti-balaka had committed ethnic cleansing in their attacks on the Moslem minority. Nearly the entire Moslem population living in the south fled the violence. Andilo is currently the most enigmatic, feared and powerful military commander of the anti-balaka, U.N. experts wrote in a report released in October.

Prosecutor Maurice Dibert Dollet said he could potentially be tried at the International Criminal Court
... where Milosevich died of old age before being convicted ...
in The Hague, which is investigating the violence in Central African Republic.

He was transferred to Bangui overnight and taken into custody by the judicial police, Dollet said in a statement read on state-owned radio. A warrant for his arrest had been issued in May.

Anti-balaka leaders said Ngaibonas arrest threatened reconcilation efforts, as they say they have transformed their movement into a political party.

We denounce the disorder in which international community wants to keep us in order to perpetuate the chaos in this country, said Igor Lamaka, a front man for the movement.

Central African Republic remains divided along religious lines, with a government-controlled, Christian-dominated south and a Moslem, rebel-controlled north.

Boko Haram fighters kidnap about 80 in raids on northern Cameroon
[ABC.NET.AU] Suspected bully boyz from Nigerian Islamist group Boko Haram

have kidnapped about 80 people and killed several others in a cross-border attack on villages in neighbouring Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...

Police say the vast majority of those kidnapped are women and kiddies.

During the attacks several people were killed and some houses were burnt to the ground.

They said soldiers intervened and exchanged fire with the raiders for around two hours.

The kidnapping was the biggest in Cameroon by the Islamists who have staged a series of attacks in the country in recent months and escalated their bloody insurgency in their stronghold in north-eastern Nigeria.
This attack is likely Dire Revenge for recent comments by Cameroon, criticising Nigeria for not doing enough to combat the insurgency.

The assault was launched after neighbouring Chad deployed troops to combat Boko Haram both in Cameroon and Nigeria.

Chadian troops are seeking to recapture the Nigerian city of Baga, on the shores of Lake Chad, which straddles the borders of Chad, Nigeria, Niger and Cameroon and which fell to the Islamists early this month.

Heavy clashes in Sanaa, president reportedly flees
Clashes between Yemeni security forces and Houthi rebels are raging across downtown Sanaa, amid reports that the prime minister's convoy had been attacked and the president flown out of the capital. Gun battles began early on Monday near the presidential palace and have spread to other strategic areas in the city. The militants have closed off all the streets leading to the palace, witnesses said.

Hakim al-Masmari, the Yemen Post's editor-in-chief, said there was shooting going on near the presidential residence. Calling the fighting much more dramatic than when the Houthis took control of the capital, he said, "This chaos is the first of its kind."

Yemen's information minister, Nadia Sakkaf, said the prime minister's convoy was attacked after he left a meeting with President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi. She said a Houthi convoy had also been attacked, suggesting that a "third party" was involved.

Earlier on Monday, Sakkaf had said that a ceasefire had been negotiated with the militants. There was a brief lull in fighting, but clashes resumed after just an hour.

In the inital stages of fighting, a military source in the presidential guard accused the Houthis of deploying fighters and setting up a checkpoint near the palace. He said the Houthis refused to withdraw and opened fire on the soldiers, after which the army responded. But a Houthi official said that the presidential security forces attacked the Houthi checkpoint, leading to the clashes.

Belgium terrorist plotter still on the loose, authorities say
[Washington Post] Belgian authorities are still pursuing the criminal mastermind of a foiled plot to kill coppers, Belgian Justice Minister Koen Geens said Sunday, as hundreds of Belgian soldiers fanned out across the country to protect high-profile targets.

Belgian police released several of the 13 people who were detained last week as part of an effort to stop an attack that security officials said was hours or days away from happening. But the ringleader was still on the run, Geens said, underlining the challenge European nations face in policing their large, borderless territory.

European Union

killed 17 people in and around Gay Paree over three days of violence early this month. Belgian authorities said they halted a separate plot last week connected to returnees from the fighting in Syria, which has turned into a worldwide magnet for Death Eaters seeking to establish an Islamic caliphate.

In Brussels, further raids took place Sunday connected to the Belgian attack attempt, although no arrests were made, a front man for the Belgian federal prosecutor said. The raids came as 300 soldiers were posted around the country to protect potential targets of attack, according to a statement from the office of Prime Minister Charles Michel.

Bomb explodes in İstanbul
A large number of police officers went to the scene along with bomb disposal units after the blast, which took place near an electrical transformer on Millet Street in İstanbul's Fatih district, Today's Zaman reported.

Preliminary examinations revealed that the explosion stemmed from a hand-made cluster bomb. No one was injured in the incident, according to news agencies.

Meanwhile, in Maltepe, a suspicious package was discovered in front of an Ataturk statue in the courtyard of a municipal police station. The package -- which bore a note reading "Cizre will be avenged" -- turned out to be a cluster bomb and was detonated by bomb disposal experts.

The pieces of the bomb were taken to a police station for examination. The note likely referred to the killing of a 12-year-old by police during demonstrations in Cizre, a town in southeast Turkey.

In Sultangazi, another İstanbul neighborhood, a group of people wearing masks left a suspicious package at a bus stop on Adem Yavuz Street. Upon calls from passersby, police in armored vehicles arrived at the scene and blocked two lanes of traffic.

A bomb disposal team arrived and detonated the bomb. The initials of the Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement (YDG-H), the youth branch of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), were written on the package.

Engineer accused of stealing F-35 fighter secrets for Iran
[SydneyMorningHerald]. The freight cost was barely $1700. But nestled inside an otherwise bland shipping container sat a cargo of secret blueprints sensitive enough to put to waste billions of Australian taxpayer dollars.

American Mozaffar Khazaee is accused of stealing design plans for the Joint Strike Fighter - the F-35A Lightning II, billed as the next generation in stealth air warfare - and seeking to ship them to Iran. Thousands of pages of engine schematics, technical manuals, diagrams and other as yet undisclosed detail had been secreted away in 44 boxes of documents.

Also inside one box of the illicit stash was a vacuum cleaner, cooking pots and mundane personal items.

An engineer and US citizen since 1991, the 59-year-old Khazaee was sacked in August from a private defence company working on the troubled Joint Strike Fighter project in a round of redundancies.

He was incarcerated
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
last week when US authorities stopped him from boarding a flight to Germany, bound for his native Iran, following a two-month clandestine investigation into his attempt to ship a container to the southern Iranian city of Hamadan.

A spokeswoman confirmed the Australian Defence Department is aware of the case but declined to comment, stating the investigation is continuing.

It is understood US officials have become especially forthcoming briefing allies about security breaches, chastened by Edward Snowden's leaks about its surveillance programs.

Lockheed Martin - the company building the fighter and promising to the deliver the first Australian aircraft later this year - also declined to comment, other than to note it was co-operating fully with the investigation. Australia has committed to buying 14 of the US-built jets at a cost of $3.2 billion - with a further 58 under consideration - although the development is being plagued by delays, cost overruns and design faults.

China has several times been accused of hacking computers containing sensitive features of the plane.

Had the blueprints fallen into Iranian hands they almost certainly would have found their way to Russia and China - a potential fatal compromise as these countries manufacture the only aircraft the F-35A is likely to face in battle.

Mr Khazaee's job on the Joint Strike Fighter project was to test the strength and durability for the turbine engine - along with that of another highly secretive fighter, the F-22 Raptor.

A sealed affidavit by US Homeland Security officials, used to obtain an arrest warrant for him, has now been released by court order and gives a fascinating insight to his apparent plans to ship the documents to Iran - and how the scheme came unstuck.

But the affidavit claims not to outline all the facts known in the case - only enough to lay charges - and does not allege Mr Khazaee was working under direction of Iran's government, but visited the country five times in the past seven years.

It is also not clear whether he or others may have scanned electronic copies of the documents before the shipment was intercepted. According to the affidavit, in November Mr Khazaee sent the boxes by truck from Connecticut on the US east coast to Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,.

His mistake appears to have been marking the shipment as destined for Iran - rather than a transit country - and it was selected for inspection by customs officials.

While the container was marked ''House Hold Goods'', inspectors discovered the trove of sensitive reports described as ''voluminous documents and other material containing technical data''.

Mr Khazaee had left his Connecticut home but was discovered by surveillance agents at a former residence in Indianapolis. The documents in his shipment had been marked with export restrictions and other classifications as the property of at least three defence contractors and it is unclear how they were smuggled out of the supposedly secure worksite.

Investigators found Mr Khazaee's name written in red ink on at least one document, and estimated the value of one technical report at more than $350,000.

He is alleged to have told the freight company he was shipping the boxes to his brother-in-law to hold for his return to Iran. If convicted, he faces at least 10 years in prison.

Federal Safety Inspector Arrested After Allegedly Flying With Gun in Bag
[ABCNEWS.GO] A Federal Aviation Administration safety inspector was nabbed
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
at New York's LaGuardia Airport after a firearm was allegedly found in his carry-on bag at the security checkpoint, the TSA announced today.

The TSA said in a statement it was investigating along with the FAA and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department.

The FAA agent's trip began at Hartsfield-Atlanta International Airport, where he had a Security Identification Display Area badge, allowing him to bypass security. He had no such badge for LaGuardia, which was where the weapon was discovered.

Hartsfield-Atlanta was also the origination point for an alleged gun smuggling ring that brought weapons to New York.

In that case as well, suspects allegedly took advantage of employee tags that allowed them to bypass normal security.

"TSA is taking these recent incidents very seriously, and has taken immediate steps to enhance site security at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and other major U.S. airports," the TSA said.

In response to the arrest, FAA Administrator Michael P. Huerta today suspended a program that allowed safety inspectors to bypass the TSA's screening checkpoints to access secure areas of an airport during the course of their normal duties.

"The FAA will stand down the program while it conducts improved training for all of its inspectors," the FAA said. "The agency also will require inspectors to sign a new agreement that details each inspector's responsibility under the program and clearly states that any infraction related to a weapon will result in an immediate and permanent suspension of privileges and possible further disciplinary action."

When contacted, a police officer on the condition of anonymity said the authorities concerned had been informed about the two cases registered against the holy man and directives sought for his arrest.

The police action on the FIR against the Lal Masjid khateeb will depend on the directives, he added.

Last year, the capital police registered 178 cases over the violation of the ban and booked 216 khateebs between October and December. On the direction of the government, the police arrested 96 persons during the last about three weeks. Besides, 10 khateebs obtained pre-arrest bail while the others went into hiding.

Another police officer said the cases were registered against those khateebs who delivered sermons before Friday prayers.

Ikram Lahori hanged
[DAWN] LAHORE: Death row prisoner Ikramul Haq alias Lahori, whose execution was deferred by anti-terrorism court a few days back, was hanged at Kot Lakhpat Central Jail on Saturday.

Haq was executed at 6:30am after the court rejected the compromise between his family and the relatives of the man he murdered in 2001.

Ikramul Haq Lahori was convicted by Faisalabad

They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
, but the police denied his association with the organization. It said the accused was booked under murder and terrorism charges.

Lahori was awarded death sentence in 2004 and the court issued his black warrants on Jan 6, 2014 when President Mamnoon Husain turned down his mercy petition.

Earlier, Haqs execution was scheduled for Jan 8 but his family members approached a first-class magistrate in jail few minutes before his hanging and produced an amnesty affidavit of the complainant pardoning the convict. The magistrate, after viewing the affidavit, ordered the jail authorities to stop the execution and referred the matter to the trial court.

Later, the court rejected the compromise and upheld the decision of death sentence by reissuing the death warrants and fixed the execution on Jan 17.

The convicts family also moved the Lahore High Court (LHC) for the verification of amnesty affidavit. LHC dismissed the petition on the ground that only trail court could verify the affidavit.

The security was beefed up in and around the Kot Lakhpat jail area ahead of the execution. A heavy contingent comprising police, army and rangers personnel were deployed around the jail premises to avert any untoward incident.

Family members of Haq held last meeting with him on Wednesday. The body of the convict was handed over to his brother by jail authorities after the execution.

AFP photographer shot at anti-Charlie rally in Pakistain
An AFP photographer is recovering in hospital after being shot while covering an anti-Charlie Hebdo protest outside a French consulate in Pakistan.

The protest in Karachi by the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami religious party was one of several staged across Pakistan on Friday by Islamist groups against the French magazine's depiction of the Prophet Mohammed.

Asif Hassan was stable and conscious after the bullet entered his back and exited through his chest via a lung, medics at the Aga Khan University Hospital and relatives said.

Police and witnesses at the scene blamed the protesters for the violence, saying they opened fire on the police when they were blocked from reaching the consulate.

Two others, a policeman and a local TV cameraman, received minor wounds and were discharged from hospital after first aid treatment.

The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) demanded the culprits behind Friday's incident be brought to justice.

"We call on authorities to quickly and thoroughly investigate the shooting of Agence France-Presse photographer Asif Hassan and to hold the perpetrators to account," said CPJ's Asia program coordinator Bob Dietz.

"Journalists in Pakistan must be able to safely cover newsworthy events," Mr Dietz added.

Fourteen journalists died in Pakistan in 2014, according to the International Federation of Journalism, making it the deadliest country in the world for the profession.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
1 killed, dozens wounded in clashes with police at Rahat funeral
[Ynet]. Clashes with police break out at funeral of man killed in police raid last week; police car pelted with stones at funeral; 22 civilians, 2 coppers maimed.

One man was killed and 22 were maimed, one seriously, in rioting on Sunday night at the funeral of Sami al-Ajar, who was killed last week in festivities with police in Rahat. Two coppers were also maimed in festivities near the cemetery - one moderately and the other lightly.

During the funeral, which was attended by thousands of people, a police car entered the cemetery's area and was pelted with stones and rocks. The coppers in the car were extracted by additional forces called to the scene, and used tear gas to control the rioters.

The maimed were evacuated to the Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva, where one who arrived at death's door died after suffering from a heart attack.

Another man was seriously maimed after being shot in his upper body. A man in moderate condition suffered wounds to his limbs, and 20 others are in light condition after being hit with stones and other objects, as well as from smoke inhalation. Several of the maimed claimed police used rubber bullets.

Following the festivities at the funeral, police said: "In a democratic country, in which law and order are at its core, there can't be a situation in which residents attack lawmen who came to do their job. This is challenging the rule of law. We expect the leaders in the (Arab) sector to prevent a further deterioration of the situation and work to restrain the rioters. We won't allow anyone to hurt coppers and will act determinedly against outlaws."

Al-Ajar was killed during a police raid of a suspected drug house in a Rahat neighborhood. The Police Internal Investigations Department is investigating the incident.

The police action created a chaotic scene. Two suspects were tossed in the calaboose
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
, after which officers were attacked by a crowd and pelted with stones. The officers said they had gun sex to escape. A police source said the officers were brutally attacked and were protecting the arrested individuals with their bodies.

Khaled al-Ajar, Sami's father, told of the incident: "I was sitting in my home, heard shooting and saw two people on the floor being handcuffed. They were being beaten. My son stood next to me, complaining about having tear gas in his eyes. And then he told me 'they killed me, father,' and lifted his shirt. They shot my son with no justification. No one posed a risk to them. They handcuffed me and beat me. They broke my hand. They're trying to cover up this story instead of catching the coppers who murdered him. I demand justice. We don't want violence."
"We just want to sell our drugs in peace... and we'll stone the police as needed to accomplish that. But stoning isn't violence, as everyone knows."

Self-proclaimed 'Islamic State chief of staff in Palestine' arrested
[Ynet]. Seven Israeli Arabs have been charged with membership of an illegal organization for attempting to join Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. , it was cleared for publication Sunday. Among the seven is Adnan Jamil Ala a-Din, a 39-year-old former public defender from Nazareth, who has branded himself the "Islamic State chief of staff in Paleostine."

The group intially comprised brothers Karim and Charif Abu Salah from Sakhnin, aged 21 and 30, respectively; their cousin Aala Mohammed Abu Salah, 28; relative Mohammed Ibrahim Abu Salah, also 28; Fadi Bashir, the 28-year-old son of a former Sakhnin mayor; and 30-year-old Hosam Marisat, a friend of the Abu Salah brothers.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria: 18 Dead as Kurds Battle Regime Forces in Hasakeh
[AnNahar]. At least 18 people have been killed in unprecedented fighting between Kurdish forces and Syrian government troops in the northeastern city of Hasakeh, a monitoring group said Sunday.

The festivities, which erupted in the early hours of Saturday, were continuing for a second day, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

"So far, eight Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) fighters and security police have been killed, along with nine regime soldiers and militiamen," said Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman.

A woman civilian was also killed in the fighting on Saturday.

The festivities broke out after Kurdish fighters detained around 10 regime loyalists they accused of seizing part of a demilitarized zone.

Under a deal agreed last year, Kurdish forces control around 30 percent of the city's Kurdish and mixed Kurdish-Arab districts, with regime forces controlling most of the city's majority-Arab neighborhoods.

Certain districts are off-limits to both sides under the deal.

The two sides have fought together to keep Islamic State

group jihadists out of Hasakeh, a historic provincial capital of some 200,000 people, but Kurdish relations with government forces are complicated.

The regime withdrew from most Kurdish-majority areas of Syria in 2012, focusing its forces on fighting the burgeoning Sunni Arab-led rebellion.

Since then, the Kurds have worked to build autonomous local governments in the three regions where they form the majority population.

Kurdish forces have taken over most security responsibilities in those areas.

#5  The answer should be "Yes we will support the Kurds". Notice what they did: set up autonomous local governments. Not take over, not lord it up, not lay down dictatorial laws or martial laws.

These people should be our natural allies - they hold far more of the ideals we Americans hold dear(excepting the progressives and their President, Obama and his puppeteers VallJar and Soros), in a region that is generally bereft of them.

#7  To be blunt - the Kurds hold no political usefulness for the administration. They aren't "Muslim" enough. They're a thorn for the Iranians, the mullah's temporary military aid to the Kurds aside. That doesn't help with trying to get a legacy-setting nuke deal with the theocracy. They're not (Shiite) Iraqis.

The Kurds are also a pain for the Turks, which by extension, means a political liability with the Muslim Brotherhood and its US groups. Domestically, the Kurds don't appeal to the Left. They aren't the right demographic, the right 'color'; their marxist groups aren't marxist enough. There's no photogenic (and university-educated) Kurds advocating the downfall of the West.

I've probably left something out, but I'll stop before my cynicism really takes hold and I get in trouble.

Syrian forces evacuate civilians from Eastern Ghouta
[AnNahar]. Syrian forces have evacuated nearly 4,000 people from a rebel bastion close to Damascus that has been under government siege for nearly two years, state media said Sunday.

The mass evacuation from Eastern Ghouta was also reported by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britannia-based monitor.

The group said former rebels granted amnesty by the government had facilitated negotiations to evacuate civilians from the area, which has suffered food and medical shortages because of the army siege.

"Army units evacuated more than 2,100 people from Eastern Ghouta," Syria's state news agency SANA reported, running photos showing cold and underfed women, children and elderly people.

It said residents of Douma, in Eastern Ghouta, had "fled the crimes of terrorist organizations who use residents as human shields."

The evacuees were taken to shelters in the Qudsaya area, northwest of Damascus, SANA added.

The agency said 2,112 people had been evacuated on Sunday, and 1,687 people left the area on Saturday.

A military source insisted those leaving the area "fled to the army because of all kinds of blackmail and persecution they are being subjected to by terrorists."

The Syrian government refers to all those seeking to oust Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Oppressor of the Syrians and the Lebs...
as "terrorists."

Eastern Ghouta is a key rebel bastion on the outskirts of the capital Damascus, and has been under a tight government siege for nearly two years.

The army has sought to capture rebel rear bases around the capital, which is frequently the target of opposition rockets fired from the city's outskirts.

Rebel-held towns such as Douma face frequent aerial and tank bombardment and the siege means food is scarce and medical facilities are ill-equipped to handle either illness or injury.

In December, the Syrian army gave 31 families safe passage from several parts of Eastern Ghouta, but activists expressed fear that those leaving could be detained or pressed into military service.

They said a group of people who had left the area earlier in the year were still being detained by government forces.

group has suffered a damaging blow to its ambitions at the hands of Kurdish fighters and U.S.-led warplanes.

The setback in the mainly Kurdish town on the Syria-Turkey border has knocked the momentum out of the jihadists' advance and dashed their hopes of a swift expansion of their territory, analysts say.

Christian Family in Shock at Accused Jihadist Son
[AnNahar]. When Lebanese authorities announced the arrest last week of three alleged jihadists planning suicide kabooms, Elie Warraq's family was stunned to see his name among the accused.

Warraq, 22, would hardly be the only young man in Leb lured to the ranks of Sunni Moslem forces of Evil -- but he appears to be the first Christian.
Then there was the French Jewish family whose teenage daughter joined ISIS. At least the Warraq family can be grateful their son was arrested before he'd done much harm.
Choking back tears at the family home in the northern Leb village of Mejdalaya, Warraq's father Tony said his relatives were devastated.

Army Arrests Four Suspects in Beirut on Terrorism Charges
[AnNahar]. The army announced on Sunday the arrest of four suspects in Beirut wanted on terrorism charges.

The communique said that Lebanese Mohammed Ali Shukr was tossed in the calaboose

on Saturday night in Beirut's Haret Hreik neighborhood for carrying out terrorist activity.

A number of counterfeit checks were seized in his possession.

Two Syrians, who were accompanying him, were also arrested.

They were identified as Ahmed Rahmo al-Satouf and Ghosoun Ibrahim al-Hussein.

On Sunday morning, continued the military statement, an army unit raided the residence of terror suspect Ahmed Mustafa Qahwaji in Beirut's Sabra neighborhood.

It arrested the suspect and seized a quantity of cannabis and other narcotic substances in the apartment.

He is wanted for shooting and terror offenses, said the communique.

The four suspects have since been referred to concerned authorities for investigation.

Militants shoot down plane filled with food, ammo in Syria
The Syrian wing of Al-Qaeda terrorist organization, the Nusra Front, said it shot down an army cargo plane filled with food and ammunition in the country, RIA Novosti reported.

The incident happened near the army-controlled Abu al-Duhur military airport in Idlib province of the country.

No official information was received from Syrian authorities about the downed plane, Reuters reported.
A subsequent report from An Nahar gives the official government position. Likely the truth will never be known.
At least 35 Syrian soldiers were killed overnight when an army cargo plane crashed in bad weather in the northwest of the country, a monitor said on Sunday. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the plane crashed after hitting electricity lines in heavy fog in Idlib province, a claim echoed by Syrian state media.

Terror Networks
UK female jihadis said recruiting for Islamic State
[IsraelTimes]. Western women in Syria may play a more active role in inciting terror attacks than previously thought, report says

A cadre of British women fighting with jihadi groups in Syria actively recruited supporters in the West to join their cause and even encouraged terror attacks abroad, Britannias Guardian reported Saturday.

Researchers at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation (ICSR) at Kings College London monitored the social media accounts of some 30 women with British citizenship who are fighting with Islamist terror groups in Syria and Iraq, such as the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, also known as IS and ISIS.

The probe found that a number of the women acted as recruiters for holy warrior organizations, urged further terror attacks abroad and openly praised the deadly shootings earlier this month at the Gay Paree offices of the Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
magazine and at a kosher supermarket outside the city.

According to Melanie Smith, research fellow at the ICSR, the inquiry shed light on the extent of the threat that female jihadists pose to the West women that hitherto were believed to be uninvolved in military matters and confined to traditional female roles such as cooking food, raising children and housekeeping.

British women tend to incite [attacks], they say to people that cant move to the Islamic State: Why not carry out something at home? Thats a common message: if you cant leave your family behind or afford to move to Syria then carry out something, Smith told the Guardian.

I dont think anyone talks about women returning as a risk. While they might not have the same military training, you can see women online being frustrated about the fact they cant fight and they suggest to each other that they could do something else. Women historically have been used in suicide kabooms and singular operations, she added.

The database contains the names of 70 women, the youngest a 15-year-old French girl, who are actively fighting with terrorist organizations in Syria and Iraq.

Multiple media reports and documents paint a picture of widespread discrimination by the Islamic State against women, who are largely excised from public life by the terror group.

Jihadists force females to wear the niqab, or a full-body robe, and curtail their freedom of movement and their right to education.

At least eight women have been stoned to death for alleged adultery in IS-controlled areas in northern Syria, while at least 10 women in djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
have been killed for speaking out against the group, activists say.

In August, IS detained and beheaded a female dentist in Deir el-Zour who had continued to treat patients of both sexes, the UN said.

The Islamic States exploitation of women and kiddies for warfare and other purposes was documented in a November report by the UN entitled Rule of Terror: Living under ISIS in Syria.

According to the dispatch, the jihadi group has instrumentalized and abused [women and] children on a systematic scale, using them in combat roles, as spies, guards, cooks, medics and even jacket wallahs.
