Shaboobs murder 4 suspected spies
Somalia’s Shebab militants have executed four people accused of spying for the United States, Ethiopia and the country’s internationally-backed government, officials and witnesses said. The executions by firing squad took place at a square in the town of Bardhere, a Shebab stronghold in Somalia’s southwestern region of Gedo, late Tuesday, and came a week after the US said it had killed the Al-Qaeda-affiliated militants’ intelligence chief in an air strike.

“One of the spies worked with the CIA and facilitated the killing of an Al-Shebab commander,” a Shebab judge in the town said before the four were shot dead.

According to the judge, another one of those executed had been aiding US operations in Barawe, a port town and former Shebab stronghold that was captured last year by Somali and African Union forces, while the other two worked for Ethiopian intelligence and Somalia’s security agency.

“After hearing the charges against the four and their confession, the Islamic court sentenced them to the death penalty,” the judge said.

A local witness, Ali Ronow, said hundreds of local watched the execution.

“The men were blindfolded and shot from the back by a team of hooded gunmen,” he said.

“All of them had their hands tied behind their backs when brought on a pickup truck and they were also hooded. They were shot indiscriminately with machine guns,” said Muktarey, another witness.

Over 60 killed in Puntland attack
Different version of the Galgala offensive story with more bad boys dead.
Almost 60 people have been killed during a weeklong battle between Somali security forces and the al-Shabab Takfiri militants in the northeastern part of the country, authorities say.

Fifty-four militants of the al-Qaeda-linked group were killed during fighting with Somali security forces in the autonomous state of Puntland, regional leader, Abdiweli Mohamed Ali, said on Tuesday. The attack also left five soldiers dead and four others injured, the official added.

Forty-six militants were injured and several others arrested, he added. The detainees include al-Shabab commanders, Mukhtar Abdinur Ahmed, also known as Ahmed Gurey, and Ahmed Abdi Mohamed.

Ali confirmed that the country’s “security forces… have conducted a series of clean-up operations against the remnants of al-Shabab members” in Galgala mountainous area.

Last week, Security forces in the Puntland region launched an offensive against al-Shabab’s strongholds in the Galgala mountainous area, 50 kilometers (31 miles) east of the port city of Bosaso.

20 bad boys killed in Galgala offensive
GALGALA, Somalia -- The President of Somalia's Puntland Government Abdiweli Mohamed Ali has confirmed that Puntland Defence Forces (PDFs) killed 20 Al Shabaab militants in a two-day deadly raid on bases in Galgala, Garowe Online reports.

Speaking at a press conference in the state capital of Garowe on Tuesday afternoon, Ali said that Puntland army troops seized Guri-xoor, Dhagaxdher, Guri Dharkeyn, Gurihis, Karin Xagared and the largest hideout of Digjigle which lies 37km from Galgala village from Al Shabaab fighters.

"Puntland forces killed 20 [Al Shabaab militiamen] and wounded 29 others. Five Puntland soldiers were martyred in the military offensive and four sustained injuries," said Puntland President, adding that army troops also destroyed cache of weapons and seized surveillance equipment. "Puntland soldiers captured senior Al Shabaab officials including Mukhtar Abdinur Ahmed (Ahmed Gurey) and Ahmed Abdi Mohamed in direct confrontations."

Puntland leader noted that the two were militia commanders who played a pivotal role in the latest clashes.

Puntland government in northern Somalia launched first assaults on Al Shabaab hideouts in Gagala area and along Golis Mountain Ranges in mid-2010. Ever Since, Al Shabaab has been opting for guerilla warfare in the restive Gagala, some 50km southwest of the Gulf of Aden port city of Bossaso. Despite intense military campaign in south-central regions, fugitive Shaboobs Al Shabaab fighters continue to infiltrate the stable state according to intelligence briefings.

University Lecturer wounded in Mogadishu bomb blast
MOGADISHU -- Lecturer at SIMAD University in Mogadishu is in critical condition after a bomb attached to his car went off on Wednesday, Garowe Online reports. The bomb blast seriously wounded Ibrahim in Mogadisu’s Taleh neighborhood, with medics saying his legs have been severed.

Suicide bomber kills at least 33 at Yemen police enrollment
[Ynet] A jacket wallah driving a minibus killed at least 33 people on Wednesday as cadets gathered to enroll at a police academy in the heart of Yemen's capital Sanaa, authorities said.

No one immediately grabbed credit for the attack. Yemen's local al-Qaeda branch, targeted in frequent US drone strikes in the country, has carried out similar attacks in the past.
Whoever it is will probably announce it tomorrow. The monsters love to be known by their monstrous deeds.

Car bomb explodes outside police college in Yemen
[JPOST] SANAA - A boom-mobile went kaboom! outside a police college in Yemen's capital Sanaa early on Wednesday, killing and wounding dozens of people, police sources and residents said.

Ambulances were transporting casualties away from the scene of the blast, which appeared to target a group of students outside the college, some of whose bodies were later seen lying in the street, witnesses said.

The kaboom was heard across the city and a large plume of smoke was visible in the area of the college.

Photographs purporting to show the aftermath of the kaboom, distributed on Twitter, showed the mangled wreckage of a vehicle and bloodied people lying prone on a pavement, but the pictures could not be immediately verified.

Youngest of three suspects in Paris attack surrenders to police
[IsraelTimes] Hamyd Mourad, 18, in jug; manhunt continues for Said and Cherif Kouachi; 12 victims of deadly shooting at Charlie Hebdo offices identified

The youngest of the three suspects in the deadly Gay Paree attack Wednesday on the offices of the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo has surrendered to police in Charleville-Meziere, a city some 230 km northeast of Gay Paree, sources said.

“Hamyd Mourad handed himself in to police… on Wednesday at 11:00 pm (2200 GMT) after seeing his name circulating on social media,” the source told AFP. “He has been jugged
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
and taken into custody,” another source confirmed.

Late Wednesday night, authorities said an anti-terror raid was under way in the northeastern city of Reims. According to ITele, a family member of Mourad was arrested in the operation.

Mourad along with two others were suspected of methodically killing 12 people Wednesday, including the editor of Charlie Hebdo, before escaping in a car, in La Belle France’s deadliest postwar terrorist attack.

Mourad is said to have been the getaway driver.

Said Kouachi, 34, Cherif Kouachi, 32 — brothers and Gay Paree-born Frenchies of Algerian descent — were still on the lam. Mourad is said to be the brother-in-law of Cherif, according to Le Point.

French police issued an appeal for witnesses of the attack early Thursday morning and released photos of the brothers. They were described as “armed and dangerous.”

The younger Kouachi had been active between the years 2003 and 2005 in rallies urging French Moslems to join jihadists in Iraq in battle against the US army, Metronews reported. In 2008, he was convicted of terrorism charges and sentenced to three years and 18 months suspended sentence.

The suspects’ ID cards were found in an abandoned vehicle near the scene of the attack, according to Ynet.

Eight journalists, a guest and two coppers were killed, said Gay Paree prosecutor Francois Molins.

The two coppers were named as Ahmed Merabet, 42, and Franck Brinsolaro, 49. Brinsolaro was reportedly the police bodyguard of the paper’s editor Stephane Charbonnier, widely known by his pen name Charb, who was killed along with four other cartoonists in the attack; Jean Cabut, the lead cartoonist at Charlie Hebdo with the pen name Cabu, Bernard Velhac, pen name Tignous and Jewish cartoonist Georges Wolinski, pen name Wolinski, Philippe Honoré, pen name Honoré.

Among the dead were also Bernard Maris, an economist who is a contributor to the newspaper and was heard regularly on French radio, Mustapha Ourrad, a copy editor at the paper, Frédéric Boisseau, a maintenance worker, Elsa Cayat, an analyst and columnist and Michel Renaud, a guest and friend of Cabut.

Eleven people were maimed in the attack, four of them critically.

Late Wednesday, vigils for the victims were held in cities across the world.

La Belle France raised its security alert to the highest level and reinforced protective measures at houses of worship, stores, media offices and transportation. Schools closed across Gay Paree, although thousands of people jammed Republique Square near the site of the shooting to honor the victims, holding aloft pens and papers reading “Je suis Charlie” — “I am Charlie."

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, which also left four people critically maimed, and was condemned by world leaders as an attack on freedom of expression, but praised by supporters of the Islamic State

terrorist group.

The staff was in an editorial meeting and the gunnies headed straight for Charbonnier, killing him and his police bodyguard first, said Christophe Crepin, a police union front man. Minutes later, two men strolled out to a black car waiting below, calmly firing on a police officer, with one gunman shooting him in the head as he writhed on the ground, according to video and a man who watched in fear from his home across the street.

The witness, who refused to allow his name to be used because he feared for his safety, said the attackers were so methodical he first mistook them for La Belle France’s elite anti-terrorism forces. Then they fired on the officer.

“They knew exactly what they had to do and exactly where to shoot. While one kept watch and checked that the traffic was good for them, the other one delivered the final coup de grace,” he said. “They ran back to the car. The moment they got in, the car drove off almost casually.”

The witness added: “I think they were extremely well-trained, and they knew exactly down to the centimeter and even to the second what they had to do."

The security analyst group Stratfor said the gunnies appeared to be well-trained “from the way they handled their weapons, moved and shot. These attackers conducted a successful attack, using what they knew, instead of attempting to conduct an attack beyond their capability, failing as a result.”

An al-Qaeda tweeter who communicated Wednesday with AP said the group is not claiming responsibility, but called the attack “inspiring.”

#7  Besoeker: The police is saying it identified the djihadists through an ID card forgotten in the car. Thts is not necessarily true. Could be, could be, they want to protect a source or tracking method

Also in the Madrid bombings there were many funny things. Like using SIM cards (unneeded) who allowed the police to track them. Also the SIM cards came from the store of one of the main suspects. Why in the hell didn't he buy one anonymously in another store instead of letting behind this blatant piece of evidence. Did I mention the phone with the SIM card wasn't wired to the bomb? And this undestroyed card led the police to catching the suspects just before the elections. So... couldn't it be that the jihadists (admitting the gys jailed were not a scape goat since many leads point to a Spanish authorship) wanted to be caught and caught early in order to influence elections?

So with the Charly Hebdo shootings couldn't it be that those guys purposefully let the ID in order to draw police atention towards them and let the culprits escape?

So here you have twp possible explanations:
-Police trying to hide how it identified the jihadists
-Jihadists wanting to be caught.

#8  The police officer murdered in front of the cameras was a biker cop. Not really a tough guy trained for such situations. AFAIK such cops fire less rounds at the firing range in one year than a Marine in one day. In addition he was surprised, unarmored and with a mere side arm against two oppenents who probably wearing body armor and were armed with Kalashnikovs.

One suspect dead, two others in custody
Just the parts about the perps.
One of the suspects in the Paris attack on Charlie Hebdo magazine has been killed and the two others are in custody, two senior U.S. counterterrorism officials told NBC News on Wednesday.

Authorities earlier had identified the three men as Said Kouachi and Cherif Kouachi, both French and in their early 30s, and Hamyd Mourad, 18. It couldn't immediately be determined which of the suspects was killed or whether the two others were wounded.

An official told The Associated Press that the men were linked to a Yemeni terrorist network. Cherif Kouachi was convicted in 2008 of terrorism charges for helping funnel fighters to Iraq's insurgency and sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Little information was immediately available about Mourad and Said Kouachi, but Cherif Kouachi has been suspected of involvement in terrorist groups for at least a decade. In January 2005, he and another French national were arrested in Paris as they were planning to fly to Iraq via Syria. Kouachi was described at the time as one of two deputies to the leader of an operation to send young volunteers to Iraq to fight U.S.-led forces.

Authorities linked the operation to the 19th Arrondissement Network, named for the Paris district where it was based, which is home to many Muslim families with roots in France's former North African colonies. Kouachi was convicted in 2008 and sentenced to three years in prison, 18 months of which were suspended.

The Associated Press quoted Cherif Kouachi in 2008 as saying he'd been motivated by outrage at images of torture of Iraqi inmates at the U.S. prison at Abu Ghraib. "I really believed in the idea," it quoted him as saying.
He wanted to believe so he did, even after it was demonstrated to be way overblown. Thanks, US media.

Ergo, the American press, which published the images, is responsible for the Hebdo massacre. /s/

French Police Identify 3 Suspects In Attack That Killed 12
[HOSTED.AP.ORG] French police officials identified three men as suspects in a deadly attack against newspaper offices that killed 12 people and shook the nation on Wednesday.
Tear down the mosque they attended. Arrest their friends and relatives. Oh, wait. That would be "backlash." Just send in the grief counselors as usual.
Two officials named the suspects as "Frenchies" Said Kouachi and Cherif Kouachi, who are brothers and in their early 30s, as well as 18-year-old Hamyd Mourad, whose nationality wasn't immediately clear.
Probably also a theoretical Frenchie.
One of the officials said they were linked to a Yemeni terrorist network.
Perhaps the one they said they were linked to?
A witness of Wednesday's shootings at the offices of weekly satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo said one of the attackers told onlookers, "You can tell the media that it's al-Qaeda in Yemen."
They probably really worked for the Mossad.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to publicly discuss the sensitive and ongoing investigation.
They didn't want to be murdered by guys in turbans speaking perfect French, like John Kerry did earlier today.
No arrests have been confirmed in the hunt for the attackers.
I'll bet they know where ol' John-Pierre is, though.
Masked gunnies stormed the offices of Charlie Hebdo, which caricatured the Prophet Muhammad, methodically killing 12 people, including the editor, before escaping in a car. It was La Belle France's deadliest terrorist attack in half a century.
I'd have to look that one up. JFM probably knows which one they're talking about, though.
Cherif Kouachi was convicted in 2008 of terrorism charges for helping funnel fighters to Iraq's insurgency and sentenced to 18 months in prison.
I'm sure Human Rights Watch was apalled at the severity of the sentence.
During Cherif Kouachi's 2008 trial, he told the court, "I really believed in the idea" of fighting the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq. He said he was motivated by his outrage at television images of torture of Iraqi inmates at the U.S. prison at Abu Ghraib.
I'm sure all sorts of Moslems world-wide would be outraged at the sight of Dr. Guillotine's gift to the Republic lopping the bastard's head off.
Shouting "holy shit! Allahu akbar!" as they fired, the men also spoke fluent, unaccented French in the military-style noon-time attack on Charlie Hebdo,
When I was in the Army we used to drill attacking editorial offices all the time. That's what real soldiers do, y'know.
located near Gay Paree' Bastille monument. The publication's depictions of Islam have drawn condemnation and threats before - it was Molotov cocktailed in 2011 - although it also satirized other religions and political figures.
The B.O. regime tut-tutted about it at the time. Not the other religions, though.
President Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
said it was a terrorist act "of exceptional barbarism," adding that other attacks have been thwarted in La Belle France in recent weeks.
Perhaps M. le President should give some serious thought to hunting tese guys down and killing them?
Fears have been running high in La Belle France and elsewhere in Europe that jihadis returning from conflicts in Syria and Iraq will stage attacks at home.

#2  Reuters: U.S. news media avoid Islam cartoons linked to deadly attack

(Reuters) - Leading U.S. news outlets mostly declined to show controversial cartoons of the Muslim Prophet Mohammad on Wednesday after suspected Islamist gunmen in Paris killed 12 people at the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

Online news sources the Daily Beast and Slate published the cartoons, but major U.S. publications, including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Reuters and the Associated Press, did not. Some said their guidelines call for avoiding publishing images or other material intended at offending religious sensibilities...The Associated Press said it cropped a 2012 photo of Charlie Hebdo editor Stephane Charbonnier, killed in the attack, to exclude a cartoon of Mohammad on a magazine he held in his hands.

#4  For the cops ambushed this morning these were not "real cops" but city cops. I al nit even sure they were armed since they are more supposed to deal with traffic infractions than with serious crime. The two of them where fired upon without warning apparently with a Kalashnikov. One of the cops, a female, is dead.

#5  When I was in the Army we used to drill attacking editorial offices all the time. That's what real soldiers do, y'know.

Bill Maher's rejoinder would be that they don't exactly have the full resources of a 66m strong nation-state behind them, and you gotta start somewhere. Marauding nomads on horseback were once derided for cowardice as they loosed showers of arrows on infantry from their compound bows, beating a tactical retreat and repeating the same maneuver over and over. It's the nature of the beast. Insurgents will use every unfair edge they have in order to overcome their outsized inferiority in resources.

Back in the day, when the imbalance wasn't this large, rulers responded with collective punishment - either expulsion, or in extremis, the root and branch extermination of the family, district or sect of the rebels. Given the isolated nature of the attack, the odds are that the French state will shrug it off and go on with business as usual. The political impact should be interesting to see. Will Le Pen benefit, and how much?

#6  My guess is that Hollande will respond by increasing French participation in the bombing attacks on ISIS, which will cause the organization to put pressure on hotheads in France to lie low.

#7  For the two cops shot this morrining in fact it was a female cop and a street cleaning employee. The famel cop didn't have a gun since she was just a city cop.

Home Front: WoT
GOP Blames Obama for ISIS Infiltration Threat From Mexico
Republicans expressed outrage Thursday at news reports that U.S. intelligence has intercepted social media discussions among Islamic State (ISIS) militants about infiltrating the country through the Mexico border.

"They do pose a direct threat to the homeland," Arizona Rep. Matt Salmon charged to Newsmax. "We don't know how many have come across the southern border. The border is as porous as a sieve.

"We have no idea how many of them have come across the border and pose a real threat," he said. "We got caught flat-footed once in 2001. Let's not let that happen again."

Pennsylvania Rep. Tom Marino asked, "How do we know that we don't have extremists or ISIS lone wolves in this country already? It doesn't take much to talk some nut into strapping a bomb to himself and walking into a mall."

Salmon's Grand Canyon State colleague, Rep. Paul Gosar, said that "these savages who want to cause Americans harm have been paying close attention to the lax enforcement policies of this administration and have developed strategies to cross the border undetected.

"This administration must do more to secure the border before we have another attack on American soil," Gosar said. "We simply cannot afford to let President Obama play political games in the name of appeasing liberal amnesty advocates.
More than 63,000 illegal immigrant minors have been arrested after crossing the Rio Grande River into South Texas between Oct. 1 and July. Most of them have been traveling alone.

The Obama administration estimates that as many as 90,000 young illegals could be taken into custody by the end of the month.

The deluge has created what President Barack Obama has described as "a humanitarian crisis," but Republicans have fingered the administration's lax enforcement of immigration laws as the culprit.

They also have cited news reports in Central American media that tout administration deportation policies that benefit some illegals.

But so far this fiscal year, the Obama administration has actually deported nearly 20 percent fewer illegals than the prior year, according to an analysis of Department of Homeland Security figures released on Thursday.

Between last Oct. 1 and July 28, 258,608 illegals have been sent home, compared with 320,167 people in the prior-year period. In addition, 344,624 people were deported in the period that ended in July 2012.
That represented 25 percent more illegals who were deported than this year, according to the analysis.

On Thursday, the White House pledged to Hispanic groups and other immigration-reform advocates that the president would take executive action on the issue by the end of the year.

In a high-profile Rose Garden speech in May, Obama vowed to issue executive orders by the end of the summer, but upset the groups when he reversed course last week, saying he would postpone action until after the November midterm elections.

The about-face stemmed from fears that any executive moves from Obama could cause the Democrats to lose the Senate.

But with intelligence reports saying the Islamic State is discussing coming into the country via Mexico — coupled with new CIA data saying that the terrorist group has as many as 31,500 fighters in Iraq and Syria alone — Republicans have stepped up their call for tougher action by the administration to secure the border.

"Defending Americans from attack starts with securing our borders and prosecuting illegal immigration," Texas Rep. Steve Stockman told Newsmax. "President Obama must immediately commit to building the full border fence, deploying additional law enforcement to the border, detaining criminals, and punishing countries that refuse to accept repatriated illegals."

"We definitely have to be on our guard," King said. "That's the type of thing that ISIS has to be considering.

"Obviously, the southern border is more porous and vulnerable," the congressman said. "We have to absolutely be on our guard on the southern border."

At Wednesday's Senate hearing, Homeland Security's Taylor said United States intelligence officials were skeptical that Mexican drug cartels would let jihadists use their turf to attack the U.S. because it would bring greater scrutiny and threaten their lucrative drug-smuggling activities.

Louisiana Rep. John Fleming dismissed that wariness out of hand to Newsmax.

"I would not trust the cartels to protect us in any way, shape or form," he said. "That's naïve and just a sense of denial of our administration to think that. The only people we can depend on in this conflict is ourselves and our close allies.

"To think that the cartels and the people who work for them are going to do the right thing, in the face of receiving probably lots of money from ISIS?" Fleming asked. "No, ISIS would grease their palms, they would get help — and they would deliver whatever they wanted to harm or kill American citizens."

Another study released earlier in the year by the Center for Immigration Studies stated: “But the total number of immigrants from predominantly Muslim countries totaled 295,743 in the period, according to the CIS study. That was up by 13.5 percent.” What’s the matter, do we have a Francophile suicide death wish? Or do we suffer from just plain terminal stupidity? Immigration Study.

ATC hands three death sentences to Dr Warren Weinstein kidnapper
A man accused of abducting US doctor Dr Warren Weinstein was handed three death sentences by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Wednesday.

The ATC also ordered the convict named Hafiz Imran alias Imran to submit a fine of Rs5 million before it.

Imran — the son of Mohammad Yousuf — is a resident of Gujranwala's Wazirabad district.

American national Dr Warren Weinstein was abducted from his residence in Lahore in 2011 by unknown attackers.

Weinstein had been in Pakistan for seven years and worked as the country director of Virginia-based development company J.E. Austin Associates. He went missing two days before he was due to end his term and return to the US. Said to be in his 60s, Mr Weinstein was dependent on a number of medicines, including some given to acute asthma patients.

During investigation, law enforcement agencies had apprehended two accused Saifur Rehman and Hafiz Imran who confessed their crime and were sent to judicial lock up.

In 2011, Al Qaeda’s chief Ayman Al Zahawari had claimed in a video statement that Weinstein was in their custody and his organisation was responsible for the kidnapping.

There were also some reports that Weinstein was being held in North Waziristan by Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.

In May 2012, Al Qaeda had also released a video of his as proof that he was alive. The initial video was followed by three more videos in September 2012 and in December.

The two arrested accused Saif and Imran also told investigators about two other accused Afzaal Hussain and Imran Ahmed’s involvement in the kidnapping.

Meanwhile, investigators received information that Afzaal Hussain was killed in an encounter with Mansehra police.

Later, local investigators had sent the challan of both arrested accused persons to an anti-terrorism court in Lahore, declaring them responsible for the crime. The challan also declared that the remaining two accused including Ayman Al Zahawari and Imran Ahmed were also proclaimed offenders.
