7 die in Santa Barbara drive-by shooting

The shooter is the son of a Hollywood assistant director, who, he said, was still a virgin. His last video, entitled "Retribution" can be seen here.

Waydaminit! Not even a rock whore?

In what authorities are calling "the work of a madman," a gunman went on a drive-by shooting rampage in a Santa Barbara student enclave that left at least seven people dead, including the attacker, and seven others wounded.

Investigators say they believe that a gunman driving a black BMW acted alone in the shootings late Friday night near the University of California-Santa Barbara.

Jealous husband castrates and kills French mayor
[The Peninsula] A jealous husband castrated and murdered the mayor of a hamlet in northern La Belle France yesterday before killing himself, sparking shock and disbelief among residents.

Mayor Dominique Leboucher, 55, was brutally attacked by a man "who suspected him of having an affair with his wife," a police source said, adding that the unnamed attacker then did away with himself.

The crime sparked horror in the tiny village of Bretteville-le-Rabet in Calvados in northern La Belle France. "I do not believe this thing about infidelity at all," said Yannick Guesnon, one of the mayor's deputies, adding that the attack appeared to be "an act of madness."

Albert Gibot, a pensioner in the village of 250 souls, said the attacker had "blown a fuse as his partner used to attend meetings of the local council in the evenings."

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Rooshun mafia at the center of prescription drug scam
Nondescript minivans pulled up like clockwork outside Newark's homeless shelters, and the drivers offered a deal few desperate people would turn down: a free health checkup and a guaranteed prescription for painkillers, which can fetch as much as $100 per pill on the street.

They were bused 10 miles away, authorities said, to a rundown strip mall in Passaic where the deal went down. A doctor offered a quick, often bogus exam before writing scripts for OxyContin or oxycodone. As a special thank you, he threw in a $10 gift card.

His patients could take the drugs or sell them on the black market. The doctor didn't care; he got paid by Medicaid either way.

And so did his business partners in the Russian mafia.

Illegal Flood Shifts from AZ to TX
(Ay Pee) Heat maps illustrating concentrations of arrests glowed bright red along miles of the Rio Grande south of McAllen.

Of the 7,640 arrests made in the Rio Grande Valley last week, Mexicans ranked fourth, behind people from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala. Widespread gang violence and lack of economic opportunity are cited as factors in the growing numbers of people from those countries.

Immigrant smuggling is a huge business dominated by Mexico's drug cartels, which either cross the groups themselves or collect a tax per head from smugglers.
I bet they get papers as part of the cost, so they can get legally hired and pay taxes. And vote Democratic. Three times.

This Week in Guns, May 24th, 2014

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

New Yorkers realized that their laws have consequences as Remington Firearms has announced they will move some of their firearm production to more gun friendly Alabama. The problem is the leftists do not care about jobs, only control, so the move is seen as a natural and positive consequence.

The US Department of Justice is pressuring banks and financial institutions about supporting firearms sellers, apparently wanting them to end their relationship.
As I have said before, part of the problem with the government's relationship with firearms sales and purchases is the willingness of private businesses to be an agent of government firearms policy. It may work when times are fat, but now firearms dealers are becoming part of the problem as the federal government attempts to restrict gun sales.

Apparently, as a result of this pressure the government is warning gun sellers about accepting cash for multiple gun purchases, which would be the only way I would buy just one gun, if I bought a gun from a business. As it is, it is bad to give your name and the registration number of the firearm you are trying to acquire if that information gets passed and kept -- illegally -- by the government. Firearms dealers are active agents in that.

Last week's item from the Eternal O-5 Lt. Col. Robert Bateman repeating the claim that an antigun woman was spat upon in an Indianapolis airport last April turns out to be a lie.

Best start training for close quarters combat with your local police. That style of combat is coming.

Loads.

Hey Army, how. in. the. hell. did this guy get put in charge of anything? His politics and flounder's grasp of history and intent aside, he is foundationally incompetent. His prose is that of a 14 year old girl, smited, and you had him in charge of teaching history. At West Point.

Here is a guy who has made it his reason to be as a gun grabber with creds, and he builds his house on a here say story at a notoriously unreliable site then brags up his bonifides by bragging about all he needs is his, as I understand, illegal knives and his pub to be open.

Russia Military Says Troops to Quit Ukraine Border in 20 Days
[An Nahar] Russian troops near the Ukraine border will return to base in at least the next 20 days following an order from President Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
, the military's chief of general staff said Friday.

"The troops are being moved onto trains and military transport aircraft. This will take around 20 days," General Valery Gerasimov, Russia's chief of general staff, was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti news agency.

He dismissed a journalist's suggestion that the pull-out would be completed by June 1.

Putin on May 19 called an end to military exercises in regions bordering Ukraine, where troops had been deployed since March.

The troops based in Russia's western and southern regions began returning to their bases immediately on May 19, Gerasimov told journalists at a security conference in Moscow.

NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen said Thursday that limited Russian troop movements near the border with Ukraine "may suggest" preparations for a withdrawal.

Gerasimov insisted that the troops did not present a threat to Ukraine.

China-Japan-Koreas
Adm. Sam Locklear Warns about the China-Vietnam standoff
MANILA -- The U.S. military commander in the Pacific warned Friday that the risk of a miscalculation that could trigger a wider conflict in a tense territorial standoff between China and Vietnam is high and urged both nations to exercise restraint. Adm. Samuel Locklear also urged Southeast Asian nations and China to hasten the drafting of a legally binding "code of conduct" to prevent territorial rifts from turning into armed conflicts that could threaten the region's bustling economies.
Right. Former communist thugocracies will work with impoverished, military weak countries to draft a legally binding code of conduct. Unicorns exist too, Admiral...
Locklear said he was concerned about a three-week standoff between China and Vietnam near the disputed Paracel Islands and urged them to resolve the territorial conflicts on the basis of international law.

"I have serious concerns," Locklear told reporters. "The risk of miscalculation, I think, is high and we encourage them both to exercise restraint."

China raised the stakes earlier this month when it deployed an oil rig off in waters also claimed by Vietnam, which sent ships to try to disrupt the drilling operation. Street protests morphed into bloody anti-Chinese riots that damaged hundreds of factories.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, who also attended an economic forum in Manila, [wrote] that "like all countries, Vietnam is considering various defense options, including legal actions in accordance with the international law." But he said Vietnam would defend itself if it comes under attack.

Analysts have said that countries confronted by China in disputed waters, like Vietnam, may seek a deeper security alliance with Washington.
They actually don't seem to be moving too sprightly on that one. Wonder why?
When asked by reporters about that possibility, Locklear said Washington has been forging such relationships and would welcome strategic ties with Hanoi. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum on East Asia, he said that the Asia-Pacific has become the most militarized region in the world, with some of the largest army and naval forces.

"How these forces are managed to create a fabric of security that allows economic success here has not yet been determined," Locklear said.

China claims nearly all of the South China Sea, bringing it into conflict with the far smaller nations of Vietnam, the Philippines and three others that have rival claims. Beijing also has a territorial dispute with Japan over a cluster of islands in the East China Sea.

Last year, the Philippines filed a complaint against Beijing before an international tribunal in The Hague challenging the legality of its claims. Beijing wants one-on-one talks with each of its rival claimants, something that gives it an advantage due to its sheer size and power.

U.S. efforts to pivot back to Asia after years of heavy military engagement in the Middle East were not meant to curb China's influence, Locklear said, suggesting Asian governments would treat China by its actions in the region.

"In my opinion, the only person that can contain China, is China," Locklear said.
And they're not interested...

Obama blames Founding Fathers' 'structural' design of Congress for gridlock
The president also blamed "demographics" for the inability of the Democratic Party to gain more power in Congress, saying Democrats "tend to congregate a little more densely" in cities such as New York and Chicago.

Twitter blocks 'blasphemous' tweets in Pakistan upon requests
[DAWN] The micro-blogging website, Twitter, has honoured five requests put forth by an official from the Pakistain Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to block tweets that he regarded as blasphemous, a report published in the New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
said.

All five requests were made in the month of May by the PTA's Abdul Batin who had asked Twitter to censor accounts, tweets or searches on the social network that he described as "blasphemous" or "unethical."

Twitter honoured all requests which called for the blocking of content from drawings of the Prophet Muhammad (PTUI!), photographs of burning copies of the Holy Koran and messages from a handful of anti-Islam bloggers as well as an American porn star who now attends Duke University, the NYT report said.

The blocking of these tweets in Pakistain is in line with Twitter's country-specific censorship policy that it made public in 2012.

The NYT report moreover said that it was the first time that the social network had agreed to block content in Pakistain.

Twitter's compliance with the PTA's requests comes at a time when Pakistain is already confronted with multiple censorship challenges. At the same time, discussion on the country's blasphemy laws has also become increasingly precarious with the targeting of secularists.

It is pertinent to mention that In May 2012, Twitter was briefly blocked in Pakistain over 'blasphemous' posts about a Facebook competition involving caricatures of Prophet Muhammad.

The website had been blocked by the PTA on the orders of the Ministry for Information Technology amid accusations it refused to remove messages about the Facebook contest.

The ban had sparked anger, and many in Pakistain appeared to have found a way to circumvent the restrictions and post on the microblog regardless.

Several hours after it was cut off, the PTA had restored access to the website.

In Pakistain, Twitter is used by prominent public figures such as celebrities, cricketers, cabinet ministers and members of parliament.

Iraq
Turkey begins exporting Iraqi Kurdistan oil
[The Peninsula] Turkey said Friday that oil from Iraqi Kurdistan was being exported to international markets, a move that could exacerbate already-strained tensions between Iraq's central government and its autonomous Kurdish region.

Energy Minister Taner Yildiz told news hounds that shipments of Iraqi oil from Turkey's Mediterranean port of Ceyhan began Thursday night.

"It's Iraq that makes sales and possesses the oil and it's again Iraq that will govern the future sales," said Yildiz.

The exports via Turkey came in defiance of Storied Baghdad which asserts its oil ministry must approve all sales.

The oil ministry in Storied Baghdad and the prime minister's office did not immediately respond to AFP requests for comment.

Iraq has some of the world's largest deposits of oil and gas, and the central government in Storied Baghdad insists it has the sole right to develop and export the country's natural resources.

Since the US-led invasion in 2003, Storied Baghdad has been at loggerheads with the energy-rich autonomous northern Kurdish region, which has sought to sign deals with foreign firms and export without the consent of the central government.

Southeast Asia
Thai military 'detains' ex-premier
[The Peninsula] Thailand's military rulers detained former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra yesterday, a senior officer said, after summoning her for talks a day after the army overthrew her caretaker government in a coup.

As the army moved to consolidate its grip on the country, its chief, General Prayuth Chan-ocha, set out his plans for the country, saying reforms were needed before an election. But some Thais defied martial law to protest against the takeover.

Prayuth launched his coup after rival factions refused to give ground in a struggle for power between the royalist establishment and Yingluck's populist government that had raised fears of serious violence and damaged the economy.

#1  It is reported they've also detained academics and leaders of the disruptive mobs. It appears they're dealing with both sides. Maybe they visit some judges as well.

Tennessee Brings Back Old Sparky
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee has decided how it will respond to a nationwide scarcity of lethal injection drugs for death-row inmates: with the electric chair.

Republican Gov. Bill Haslam signed a bill into law Thursday allowing the state to electrocute death row inmates in the event prisons are unable to obtain the drugs, which have become more and more scarce following a European-led boycott of drug sales for executions.

#4  Given that at any one time two thirds to three quarters of Americans want the death penalty, it's an obvious indication that we have long passed the stages of self rule and have accepted rule by the few to obstruct and stop justice. Meanwhile executions go on daily in our streets, our neighborhoods, our businesses and even schools. True innocents slaughtered.

When a state is unwilling to provide justice, the people will seek it out themselves. That is consider at threat to those who run the state even though they are the ones who by act or inaction create the consequence.

Sparky is not subject to obstructions of the FDA, just another brick in the wall of bureaucracy that has taken its powers well beyond anything it was intended to achieve political goals rather than its original function.

Rev. Graham: 'Christians Are Under Attack by Islam'
"The U.S. State Department has called upon Iran to release Abedini. In Meriam Ibrahim's case, the State Department has not affirmed that her husband is a U.S. citizen when questioned by CNSNews.com. However, Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) and Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) have sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry flatly asserting that Ibrahim is 'the wife of U.S. Citizen Daniel Wani.'"
Looks like the "Green Card" thingie has a check valve.

Ed Schultz Ends Radio Show, Moves to Web-Based Broadcast
[MEDIAITE] MSNBC host Ed Schultz
...currently hosting some kind of show on MSNBC that nobody watches, formerly touted as a Limbaugh killer for Air America...
announced Wednesday that he will no longer be hosting his long-running syndicated radio show and will instead host an online-only broadcast hosted on his website, wegoted.com.

The move from radio to online means that instead of hosting a three-hour radio show each day, in addition to his daily TV show on MSNBC, Schultz will only produce one additional audio hour on a daily basis. The host said the change would go into effect next Tuesday after Memorial Day and that the new one-hour show will stream for free on his website, Monday through Friday from noon -- 1 p.m. ET.

"Really this change will give me more flexibility to be on the road to do the kind of shows I want to do here for The Ed Show on MSNBC," Schultz told his audience, putting a positive spin on the change. "This is on me, you know. I just don't want to do a three-hour talk show anymore."
