Multiple suicide attack kills one NATO soldier
Taliban terrorists militants killed a NATO soldier in a multiple suicide attack involving a car bomb, explosive vests and gunfire against a base in southern Afghanistan on Monday.

Afghan officials said the attack targeted a US facility in Zhary district of Kandahar province. A spokesman for NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said, "One ISAF member has been killed in this attack. There were multiple individuals. All the enemy have been killed. It was a complex attack against an ISAF base involving a suicide car bombing, suicide vests and small arms fire."

Javid Faisal, a spokesman for the provincial government of Kandahar, said on Twitter that nine suicide bombers and attackers were killed in the attack on the US base in Zhary.

Two soldiers killed by landmine near Mogadishu
MOGADISHU -- At least two Somali Federal Government soldiers were killed in a landmine explosion in the outskirts of Mogadishu on Sunday as gunmen killed a businessman in Mogadishu's Huriwaa district, Garowe Online reports. Witnesses say that a fighting vehicle carrying soldiers waded into a minefield on the road connecting Afgoye town to Mogadishu, leaving two soldiers dead and wounding three others.

Afgoye major Mahdi Ahmed Hassan told the media that the explosion could have been caused by a roadside bomb.

"The blast was thunderous and I saw plume of black smoke rising over the scene of the explosion, some soldiers were lying on the ground while others were sustaining injuries," said a nearby shopkeeper.

Meanwhile in Mogadishu, unknown assailants shot a well known businessman in Mogadishu's Huriwaa district while he was locking his shop according to witnesses.

"The attackers escaped, he was a well know businessman in SOS neighborhood of Huriwaa district," an eyewitness told the media.

Sudan Rebels Say Dozens Killed, Tank Destroyed in Blue Nile
[An Nahar] Rebels in Sudan's Blue Nile state on Sunday claimed to have killed dozens of soldiers and disabled a tank during battle, but the military said it was the victor.

The Sudan People's Liberation Army-North said it "managed to destroy" a government convoy at Malkan on Friday.

Insurgents seized two other tanks in good condition along with long-range artillery pieces and various weapons, a rebel statement said, disputing government claims to have occupied the Malkan area.

Sudan Armed Forces front man Sawarmi Khaled Saad told Agence La Belle France Presse the battle in the southern Ingessana Hills had occurred 10 days ago, when Khartoum's forces defeated the rebels.

22 cops among 55 hurt in 5-hour mayhem in Gaibandha
[Bangla Daily Star] Jamaat-Shibir men early yesterday ambushed a police team in Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha and clashed with the joint forces sent to relieve the police team, leaving 55 people, including 22 cops, injured.

.

Mofazzal Hossain, superintendent of police of Gaibandha, told The Daily Star that the police were conducting a raid in Kadamtala and Khanabari villages of Sarbananda union in the upazila around 1:00am yesterday.

The villages are known to be Jamaat-Shibir strongholds.

Mofazzal said the law enforcers had cordoned off the villages to capture people wanted in cases filed in connection with the violence that rocked the district in February 2013.

As coppers were conducting their raid inside the villages, Jamaat-Shibir activists put up barricades on all the exit points of the villages and torched the vehicle the law enforcers went there in. They then swooped on the coppers with sticks and sharp weapons, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate with a few gunshots, he said.

Locals said members of the joint forces rushed to the area to help the police team and fired a large number of teargas shells and rubber bullets. The Jamaat-Shibir men hurled brick chunks at the law enforcers during the clash and vandalised 12 homes, police said.

The joint forces managed to get the police team free around 6:00am and arrest Mafizal Islam, 56, Shajahan Bhutto, 45, Al-Amin, 20, Ashiqur Rahman, 22, and Dulu Mia, 25.

Twenty-two coppers, including sub-inspectors Mahiuddin and Abdul Matin, were maimed during the clash, SP Mofazzal said, adding that six cops were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.

General secretary of Sundarganj upazila unit of Jamaat Shahidul Islam Manju claimed that 25 of its leaders and activists were maimed in the clash and he blamed police for vandalising the 12 homes.

In the morning, the villages of Kadamtala, Khanabari, and Ramvadra, where the festivities had spread to, had no men. The men had fled fearing arrest, said Shajahan Mandol, chairman of Sarbananda union parishad.

Turkey Searches Trucks for Weapons near Syria Border
[An Nahar] Turkish security forces on Sunday stopped and searched seven trucks near the Syrian border suspected to be loaded with weapons -- but let them go when they discovered Turkish intelligence personnel on board, according to media and officials.

Local media reported that a big contingent of security officers stopped the trucks and briefly detained three of the drivers.

However the local governor's office later issued a statement saying all personnel on the vehicles belonged to Turkey's National Intelligence Organization (MIT) and were on duty. They and the vehicles were released.

"The material in the truck is nobody's business," a front man for Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party, Huseyin Celik, said on CNN-Turk television.

"No one can do random searches. If a prosecutor does something wrong, he will be accountable," he said.

The operation came just days after Turkish police carried out multi-city raids against al-Qaeda suspects accused of helping radical fighters in Syria.

The Turkish government itself has been accused by Western powers of shipping arms to rebels and turning a blind eye to gunnies crossing the border to fight in Syria, claims it has repeatedly denied.

Three weeks ago, security forces stopped a truck on the Syrian border suspected to have been carrying weapons and ammunition on behalf of the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), a charity linked to the government.

The IHH dismissed the claims as an attempt to discredit the organization, while media reports said that convoy, too, had been accompanied by MIT agents.

The prosecutor and the security forces carrying out the search had been subsequently removed from their posts.

Police last Tuesday detained 25 suspects including two reported top al-Qaeda operatives and an IHH staff member suspected of a variety of offenses including sending fighters to Syria and raising money for Syrian rebels.

Seven Detained as Turkish Forces Raid Kurdish Town
[An Nahar] Turkish security forces on Sunday raided a Kurdish town where the army launched a botched air strike in 2011 that killed dozens of people including children, local media reported.

Seven people were detained in the dawn raid on houses in Uludere near the Iraqi border in southeastern Turkey, Hurriyet newspaper reported on its website.

It said the action was believed to be related to a protest last week over the clearing of military officers accused of perpetrating the 2011 attack and against the building of a military road in the area.

One person was maimed during the protest, which saw villagers damage military vehicles and weapons, Hurriyet said.

In December 2011, Turkish fighter jets bombed Uludere, killing 34 people including 19 children in an attack Kurdish politicians described as a "massacre" of civilians.

Trespasser Freed From Pipe At NJ Water Plant, Faces Criminal Charges
Sudden Jihad Syndrome? Practice run? We may never be informed.
[CBSNewYork/AP] Rescuers have freed a man who had been stuck for hours in a pipe at a water treatment plant in New Jersey.

Officials told CBS 2 around 11:30 a.m. on Friday that 26-year-old Asef Mohammed, of Manalapan, had been freed and airlifted to an area hospital. He was 10 to 12 feet down the pipe, which was not in use, WCBS 880′s Levon Putney reported.

United Water front man Rich Henning said Mohammed broke into the plant that treats and pumps water for the township of Manalapan. Workers heard cries for help coming from the pipe around 7 a.m. Friday.

"This was a person that purposely climbed a six-foot fence with three or four layers of barbed wire on top," Henning said.

Manalapan police announced Friday afternoon that Mohammed is being charged with fourth-degree criminal trespassing and may face additional charges as the investigation continues, CBS 2′s Steve Langford reported.

Henning said the outflow pipe is used for cleaning a storage facility and is no more than 24 inches wide. He said the water quality was not affected by the incident.

Manalapan's mayor told CBS 2 the town is considering the possibility of having Mohammed pay for the cost of the rescue operation.
A very good idea. Let there be a cost to the miscreants when they decide to get clever.

His defense attorney will claim that the lack of prominent multi-linguistic warning signs means that the operators really really didn't mean to inhibit casual trespassers. Therefore his client should be found not guilty and fault assessed upon the plant operators.

Woman gunned down in Liaquatabad
[DAWN] A young woman was rubbed out outside her home in Liaquatabad on Saturday, police said.

They said the 35-year-old Arifa Rafi was about to enter her home in Liaqutabad C-1 area when two men on a cycle of violence emerged there and one of them fired a single shot that hit her in the neck.

"The woman was unmarried and living with her brothers," said Supermarket SHO Anzar-ul-Haq. "The attacker used a TT pistol and a fired single shot that proved fatal. It appears to be a case of personal enmity from the way she was killed."

'Bandit' killed in encounter

A suspected bandit was killed in a police encounter in the Defence area on Saturday, officials said.

They said that a police patrol of the Defence cop shoppe spotted some suspicious pillion-riders in Khyaban-e-Jami, Phase-II.

The police signalled them to stop, but they opened fire, claimed Defence SHO Obaidullah Khan. "The police retaliated and after a brief exchange of gunfire they managed to arrest one suspect who sustained bullet wounds. However,
there's more than one way to skin a cat...
his aide sped away."

The maimed suspect was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where he died, he said, adding that the police had also recovered a pistol, cash and cellphones from his possession.

"He has been identified as 35-year-old Aijaz Baloch. The police record suggested that he was placed in durance vile
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
last year by the South zone police in several cases mainly related to street crime. However,
there's more than one way to skin a cat...
he was enlarged on bail later," said the area SHO.

Robbers kill watchman upon resistance

The watchman of a bungalow was killed when he resisted a robbery attempt in the Defence area on Saturday.

Police said that some six bandidos barged into a house in the Defence area, held the family at gunpoint and started collecting cash and valuables.

Defence SHO Obaidullah Khan said that the 53-year-old watchman, Abdul Hameed Kashmiri, somehow scuffled with one of the bandidos, but he was badly beaten up by them. They used pistols' butts to hit him in the head and left him unconscious and bleeding.

He said that the injured watchman was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre as soon as the bandidos left the place, but he died from excessive bleeding.

Explosion kills 20 in Bannu; TTP claims attack
[DAWN] A bombing, targeting a security forces convoy, killed 20 people and injured 30 others near Razmak gate in Cantt area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
's Bannu district on Sunday. The Pak Taliban claimed the attack.

An ISPR front man said that in the attack, 20 security personnel were killed and 30 were maimed.

Speaking to CNN, Shahidullah Shahid, front man for the proscribed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) claimed that the krazed killer organization was responsible for the attack and said that their attacks on security forces would continue.

On the other hand, intelligence sources say that a convoy, comprising military and civilian vehicles, was ready to move towards Miranshah

in the North Wazoo tribal region from a ground near Razmak Gate in Cantt area of Bannu when the kaboom occurred in one of the coaches.

The sources added that the explosives were planted in one of the vehicles hired from a private party.

Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan condemning the incident has sought a report from the Inspector General of Frontier Corps with the details related to the hiring of the private vehicles for transportation.

Emergency and security forces reached the attack site and shifted the victims to a nearby hospital. Those killed in the attack included civilians and security forces personnel.

Moreover, security forces cordoned off the area as a probe into the incident went underway.

Within hours of the attack, the TTP front man said that the Taliban were ready for meaningful dialogue, however, the government should show its sincerity.

Iraq
Toll from wave of Baghdad bombs up to 25 dead
[DAWN] The toll from a wave of bombings across Storied Baghdad
...located along the Tigris River, founded in the 8th century, home of the Abbasid Caliphate...
late Saturday has risen to at least 25 dead, security and medical officials said, the latest in a surge of unrest.

The violence, which included at least a half-dozen boom-mobiles and left more than 70 people maimed, struck all over the capital, including against an upscale shopping centre, and sparked a prison break at a juvenile detention centre.

The bombings and a deadly weeks-long standoff in the western province of Anbar, part of a nationwide rise in violence that has killed more than 600 people this month, come just months ahead of parliamentary elections.

In Storied Baghdad on Saturday evening, seven attacks -- including six boom-mobiles -- killed at least 25 people and maimed more than 70 others, security and medical officials said on Sunday, updating earlier tolls.

One of the blasts went off near the glitzy new Mansur Mall, one of the capital's most upscale shopping centres, where families and young people often meet in the evenings to go to the cinema or eat at Western-style restaurants.

At least six people were killed and 12 more were maimed.

Another boom-mobile in the Taubchi neighbourhood detonated near a juvenile detention centre, and conflicting reports of a prison break spurred authorities to effectively shut the area down, an AFP journalist said.

The blast killed seven people and left 19 others maimed, officials said.

An interior ministry official said 23 detainees escaped in the chaotic aftermath of the attack, but Iraqiya state TV said security forces prevented the attempted jailbreak.

Bombs elsewhere in Storied Baghdad killed 12 people in all.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
1 Dead, 24 Hurt as Clashes Enter Third Day in Tripoli
[An Nahar] Clashes continued Sunday in the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, raising the casualty toll to at least one dead and 24 injured in two days of fighting.

"Abir al-Kayyal has died of wounds she incurred in the ongoing festivities between Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen," state-run National News Agency reported in the evening.

It later said that the injury toll rose to 24. Three army soldiers and a member of the General Security were among the maimed, NNA said.

The agency identified 15 of the maimed as Shadi al-Hasan, Saad Mishhawi, Mohammed Hasan, Walid al-Hamawi, Ahmed Nasser, Yahia Awad, Hamdi al-Baqqar, Yahia Saleh, Mohammed Khodr, Firas Abdul Aziz, Kamel Yamen, Hussam al-Hazzouri, Jaafar al-Hazzouri and Jihad Haydar.

It said Haydar suffered "critical wounds" and was rushed to the Islamic Hospital in the city.

The agency reported fierce festivities in the evening, saying the frontiers of Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen were witnessing fighting with all sorts of light- and medium-caliber weapons, including RPG-7 and B-10 rockets.

Meanwhile,
...back at the wrecked scow, Agent 49 felt gingerly for his head. It was still there. He had been hoping differently...
the army was shooting back at the sources of gunfire and it erected checkpoints on the outskirts of the two areas to prevent gunnies from exiting or entering the conflict zone, according to NNA.

"Army troops backed by armored vehicles raided places in al-Riva area after several people were maimed by sniper fire on Syria Street," Voice of Leb radio (93.3) said earlier on Sunday.

"Clashes are ongoing on the frontiers of al-Riva, Starco, al-Bazar, Baal al-Darawish and al-Shamal Street amid sniper activity on all frontiers in Tripoli," it said.

According to LBCI TV, the army closed the eastern lane on the Tripoli-Akkar highway and kept the western land open to traffic.

On the political front, a number of Moslem holy mans met at a Jamaa Islamiya office in the city and urged "all the leaders of the fighting frontiers to cease fire immediately."

"This meaningless battle will only serve the interests of the Syrian regime and its allies in Leb," they warned.

The fighting had renewed on Saturday evening on several frontiers after a brief lull.

The current round of fighting in Tripoli was sparked by the Friday death of Taleb Assi of Jabal Mohsen from injuries he had sustained when unknown assailants shot up him in Tripoli's al-Qobbeh area.

Dozens Evacuated from Besieged Yarmuk Camp in Damascus
[An Nahar] Dozens of critically ill residents of a besieged Paleostinian refugee camp south of the Syrian capital Damascus were evacuated on Sunday, a Paleostinian official told Agence La Belle France Presse.

The Yarmuk camp has been largely under the control of Syrian opposition forces for months and government forces have imposed a siege and choked off the entry of supplies into the camp since September.

"The evacuation has begun of a number of critical humanitarian cases from the Yarmuk camp," said Paleostine Liberation Organization official Anwar Abdul Hadi.

He added that 50 people had left the camp so far, and that "it is expected that by the end of the day around 100" people will have been evacuated.

The siege has caused acute shortages inside the camp and more than 50 residents have reportedly died from hunger and a lack of medical care.

Abdul Hadi said the evacuations would continue daily until 600 residents in a critical condition, along with those suffering chronic illnesses and children and pregnant women, had left Yarmuk.

He also said that a new aid convoy carrying some 400 food packages was expected to enter the camp on Sunday.

His announcement comes the day after a first batch of food aid entered the besieged refugee camp, after an agreement was reached between representatives of Paleostinian factions and rebels inside the camp.
