Children killed in Nato attack: Afghan officials
[Dawn] Afghan officials said Monday that a NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
air strike killed three children while it was targeting Taliban cut-throats planting mines on a road in southern Afghanistan.

NATO's International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) confirmed an air strike in Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province's Nawa district on Sunday, saying that three cut-throats died and it was investigating reports that children were also killed.

"Two Taliban mine-planters were identified and targeted by Isaf from the air and killed," district police chief Ahmad Shah Khan told AFP.

"Three children, two boys and a girl, who were nearby collecting firewood were also killed," Khan added.

Farid Ahmad Farhang, a front man for Helmand police, confirmed the incident and said the raid killed two cut-throats and three children.

Allied forces in Somalia move closer to another rebel-held town
(Sh.M.Network) --Somalia's National Army (SNA) together with the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
forces, primarily the Kenyan army on Sunday marched closer towards to Jilib district in Middle jubba region controlled by Al shabab krazed killers, reports said.

Military officials say the allied forces on Sunday flocked to the main rebel-held Jilib, securing several villages located on the corridor from Kismayo to Mogadishu and it is the most populous town in the Middle Juba Region.

Some reports said the Resident in Jilib began to flee their houses in a bid to void possible casualties.

Somali and Kenyan military have retaken control of the key southern port city of Kismayo, 500 Kms south of Mogadishu this month following two months of military offensives against Al shabab fighters.

Al shabab officials described their withdrawal of Kismayo as 'a tactical retreat', vowing to strike back the coalition forces controlling the city.

Al-Shabaab attacks Somali govt troops in Mogadishu
(Sh.M.Network) -- Al-Qaeda-inspired beturbanned goons on Sunday night attacked, with rocked propelled grenade launchers on the barracks of Somali government forces in southern Mogadishu on Sunday night, leaving scores injured.

The festivities broke out at dawn when heavily armed fighters from the Islamist movement Al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
launched an attack on soldiers stationed on one of the war-battered city's frontlines in the Hosh neighbourhood.

Similarly, an attack took place at a government compound in Yaqshid district, north of Mogadishu, sparking a battle between Somali forces and their opposing Al shabab thugs.

Rebels in Sudan's Blue Nile Say Tanks Seized
[An Nahar] Rebels in Sudan's Blue Nile state said on Monday they had destroyed a Sudanese tank and captured two others but the army dismissed the report as propaganda while acknowledging fighting in another border region.

Both sides said they had fought in South Kordofan state despite a Khartoum-Juba deal aimed at cutting South Sudanese support for the insurgency.

The ethnic and religious-minority Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) said it captured the tanks and other weapons during a three-day battle that ended Sunday with their seizure of Surkum, 50 kilometers (30 miles) northwest of Kurmuk town in Blue Nile.

The village was a military outpost from which government forces planned to launch attacks, SPLM-N front man Arnu Ngutulu Lodi told Agence La Belle France Presse.

But Sudanese army front man Sawarmi Khaled Saad denied the incident. "They didn't attack any of our positions in Blue Nile. They only want fabrication and media propaganda," he told AFP.

The army and rebels both said there had been fighting around Kologi town in the eastern part of oil-producing South Kordofan, where the SPLM-N has been fighting since June last year. Fighting spread to Blue Nile in September 2011.

Unknown gunmen kill refugee leader in northern Kenya
(Sh.M.Network)-- Unknown gunnies killed a renowned refugee security committee leader at the Dadaab complex in northernKenya, officials said on Monday.

Garissa County Commissioner Mohamed Maalim who confirmed the 14: 00 hours incident however said that the man was neither a government nor governmental designated security officer but was one of the refugee local community peace representative.

The 40 year-old Mahad Muhumed Said was shot in day light by unknown assailants who escaped on foot at IFO refugee camp in the sprawling Dadaab refugee complex.

An eye witness, Mohamed Hussein, told Xinhua that the lone gun man who was armed with a pistol shot the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) IFO refugee camp security chair.

"We had gun shots and people run for their lives fearing that there might be an kaboom that will follow the gun shots. Business came to a stand still, shops were closed and even hotels were hurriedly shut as everybody scampered for safety," Hussein said.

"We rushed to the scene and found the man bleeding profusely. He was later rushed to IFO where he was later pronounced dead," Hussein said.

There has been a string of attacks in Dadaab refugee camp by Al- Shabaab snuffies and their sympathizers since Kenya sent troops into Somalia in October last year to subdue the bully boyz who were blamed for a series of murders and kidnappings on the Kenya soil with Daadab district which hosts the refugee camps being one of the worst hit by the attacks.

More than 20 security officers have been killed in 11 attacks that have occurred in the north-eastern region, while more than 20 people have also bit the dust in a series of landmine or grenade attacks in the region.

In the latest attacks on Monday, the suspect is believed to be a sympathizer of the Al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
group who were recently flushed out of the port city Kismayo which served as the myrmidons' lifeline.

You can bet that by doing this ... there's a back room deal. She is not in the next administration - but probably has a lead role at some place like the U.N.

If Hillary really saw herself as responsible for Benghazi ... she would have said so immediately after the incident.

UPDATE: CNN has now released snippets of video from Clinton. In the video, she says she takes responsibility -- then promptly announces that security arrangements were made by "security professionals." In other words, she took responsibility, then blamed subordinates. Watch for the media to ignore that walkback on responsibility so that they can attempt to quash this scandal.

#22  There’s a dual purpose... The first is: Obama wants to end all speculation about his role in the Libyan disaster, and Hillary believes that she can take the hit and keep on trucking due to her personal popularity. The second is more subtle: Obama is losing the female vote now

Are they stupid enough to believe this dribble? Hilary is not all that popular--neither is Bill. I don't think Hilary or Bill are that altruistic as to sacrifice Hilary. Her chances of running in 2016 will be dead as Osama bin Laden. Bengahzi is a monumental screw-up--it won't go away. The buck stops with Obama. The second issue of losing the womens' vote is not going to endear him more to women. He basically threw Hilary under the bus so he could hide behind her skirts? That is not very admirable.

#26  Worth reading/re-reading this Edward Klein piece from a few days ago:

http://dailycaller.com/2012/10/12/the-clinton-obama-rift/

My sources tell me that Clinton is working on a strategy that will allow Hillary to avoid having Benghazi become a stain on her political fortunes should she decide to run for president in 2016.

Bill Clinton has even gone so far as to seek legal advice about Hillary’s liability in terms of cables and memos that might be subpoenaed by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which this week launched an investigation into the deaths of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans. The committee will also examine the apparent Obama administration cover-up that followed the Benghazi attack.

#28  Read this, which I am paraphrasing:

Hillary took the hit because it puts Champ in an untenable position. Either he asks for her resignation and pisses off Hillary's 2008 voters, or he doesn't ask for her resignation which means that Benghazi was OK.

Either way it makes Champ look like a Schlappschwanz. Hillary knows this. She set him up the day before the debate.

Key Qaeda Militant Killed In Algeria
[AFP] A bad turban charged with liaising between Al-Qaeda and its North African branch Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) has been killed in an ambush by Algerian forces, security officials said on Sunday.

Boualem Bekai, who was known as Khaled El Mig, was killed on Friday at Azrou some 50 kilometres (30 miles) from the blood-stained Tizi Ouzou region east of the capital, the APS news agency cited the officials as saying.

His identity was confirmed on Sunday by his family who collected his body from the hospital at blood-stained Tizi Ouzou, the sources said.

The 45-year-old AQIM member became an Islamist bad turban at the beginning of the country's civil war in the 1990s.

His group is suspected of being behind several attacks in the region, including an April 2011 assault on an Algerian military barracks at Azazga near blood-stained Tizi Ouzou that killed 14 soldiers.

The Azazga guard post is on the edge of the dense Yakouren forest, where AQIM is active.

AQIM, headed by Abdelmalik Droukdel
... aka Abdel Wadoud, was a regional leader of the GSPC for several years before becoming the group's supremo in 2004 following the death of then-leader Nabil Sahraoui. Under Abdel Wadoud's leadership the GSPC has sought to develop itself from a largely domestic entity into a larger player on the international terror stage. In September 2006 it was announced that the GSPC had joined forces with al-Qaeda and in January 2007 the group officially changed its name to the Al-Qaeda Organization in the Islamic Maghreb....
, emerged in early 2007 from an Algerian armed Islamist movement, the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat
... now known as al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb...
. It operates in several northwestern African countries, including Mali, Mauritania and Niger.

The group has since been boosted by the turmoil in neighbouring Mali that followed a coup there in March, with hardline Islamists occupying the country's vast northern region.

[An Nahar] A Yemeni intelligence officer died of his wounds on Monday from an attack in the southeast of the country blamed on al-Qaeda, a hospital source said.

Bahrain summons Iran envoy over 'interference'
[Al Ahram] Bahrain summoned Iran's charge d'affaires on Monday in protest at "interference" by Tehran in the internal affairs of the Gulf kingdom, the foreign ministry said.
Tehran's envoy Mahdi Islami was summoned "to address his country's interference in the kingdom's internal affairs through deliberately attributing false information to Bahraini officials," the ministry said.

Undersecretary Hamad al-Amer told Iran's envoy that his country's "conduct incites sedition and sectarianism" in Shiite-majority Bahrain which is ruled by the Sunni Al-Khalifa dynasty, it said.

He also dismissed "claims" in Iranian media that Manama had requested Iranian mediation in domestic affairs as "false".

"Any interference in Bahrain's domestic affairs through mediation or other methods, as well as in dealing with its citizens, is unacceptable and would be an encroachment on its illusory sovereignty and independence," he said.

The protest followed a meeting between Iran's representative and the spiritual leader of the Shiite opposition, Ayatollah Issa Qassem.

The main Shiite opposition, Al-Wefaq, said in a statement that the meeting between Islami and Qassem took place in response to a Bahraini demand for mediation.

Yemen court jails six 'Qaeda' militants
[Al Ahram] A Sanaa court specialising in terrorism sentenced six Yemenis to between one and five years in prison on Monday for "belonging to Al-Qaeda" and plotting attacks in Yemen. The court acquitted six others accused in connection with the same case for the lack of evidence against them, according to the verdict read by judge Hilal Mhaffal.

The 12 were accused of "participating in an armed organised group plotting to carry out criminal acts targetting armed and security forces ... government buildings ... and attacking foreign tourists and missions between 2009 and 2011," according to the chargesheet.

The court also set November 19 as the date for verdict in a separate case involving six other people -- among them an Emirati of Yemeni origin -- also accused of belonging to "an Al-Qaeda cell plotting attacks."

Iran Strikes Back: used U.of Michigan network in recent bank attacks
Iranian hackers took over a University of Michigan computer network during a massive cyber attack on U.S. financial systems last week that continued following comments on the strike by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta
...current SecDef, previously Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Panetta served as President Bill Clinton's White House Chief of Staff from 1994 to 1997 and was a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1977 to 1993....
According to reports by a leading Internet security-monitoring firm, the cyber attacks against Bank of America, JPMorgan
...where we keep our plutocrats, contributed $808,799 to the 2008 Obama campaign...
Chase, Citibank, and several other U.S. financial institutions began Oct. 8 when hackers gained control of the university's College of Engineering network in Ann Arbor.

The attack then used automated malicious software to simulate hundreds of thousands of attempts by customers to log in to the banks' remote access portals, resulting in overloading the networks.

Some of the bank's operations were slowed or otherwise disrupted, and others were halted during the attacks, which a well-placed security analyst said are continuing.
More details at the link, for you technical types. One hopes this will provide a useful exercise for those planning to be on the defence side of such things in the near future.

India-Pakistan
Pak President Admits Creating Terrorist Groups
[Telegraph] Pakistain's president has admitted his country created terrorist groups to help achieve its foreign policy goals.
Yes, of course everyone knew, but why openly admit it now?
Asif Ali Zardari
Maybe he got 10% of the created terror?
told a meeting of former senior civil servants in Islamabad, it was time to be honest about their deployment.

"Let us be truthful to ourselves and make a candid admission of the realities," he said. "The hard boyz of today were the heroes of yesteryears until 9/11 occurred and they began to haunt us as well."

These groups were not thrown up because of government weakness, but as a matter of policy. He said they were deliberately "created and nurtured" as a policy to achieve some short-term tactical objectives.

His comments amount to an admission that Pakistain trained Islamic hard boyz to launch attacks on India as part of its long war over its claim on Kashmire.

It came as at least 40 people were killed in a suspected US missile strike in north-west Pakistain.

Three US drones are believed to have fired missiles at Death Eaters near Ladha in South Wazoo. It is the third strike in two days and follows strikes in which 19 reportedly died.

Mr Zardari first confirmed that many of the Islamic Death Eaters now waging war against his government were once "strategic assets" in an interview with the Daily Telegraph earlier this week.

"I don't think anybody in the establishment supports them any more. I think everybody has become more wise than this," he said and confirmed the military was now targeting those it had previously used as proxies in attacks on India.

Islamic bad turban groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. and Jaish-e-Mohammed, have long been regarded as Pakistain proxy forces by diplomats and intelligence services but Islamabad has, until now, always denied any links.

The LeT is believed to have been created to fight with the Afghan Mujahideen against the former Soviet-backed Najibullah regime in Kabul and to attack Indian forces in Jammu and Kashmire.

It is believed to have been responsible for the commando attack on Delhi's Red Fort in December in which two soldiers and a civilian were killed. It was involved with another Pakistain-backed terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed in the 2001 attack on the Indian parliament before it was banned by Islamabad in 2002.

Pakistain hard boyz were also behind the 1999 hijacking of an Indian Airlines jet which forced the Indian government to release three jugged

for the murder of Daniel Pearl.

The Indian government believes links between Islamabad and these terrorist groups remain intact and prime minister Manmohan Singh has accused elements within Pakistain's security apparatus of aiding the Lashkar-e-Taiba's commando attack on Mumbai last November.

Landmark mosque in Aleppo burned in fighting
Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Scourge of Qusayr...
ordered on Monday immediate repairs to a historic mosque in the city of Aleppo
...For centuries, Aleppo was Greater Syria's largest city and the Ottoman Empire's third, after Constantinople and Cairo. Although relatively close to Damascus in distance, Aleppans regard Damascenes as country cousins...
, a move likely aimed at containing Moslem outrage after fierce fighting between rebels and regime forces set parts of the mosque on fire over the weekend.

Government troops had been holed up inside the 12th century Umayyad mosque, a UNESCO World Heritage site, in downtown Aleppo for several months before rebels fighting to topple Assad launched a push to liberate it this week.

Activist Mohammad al-Hassan said the army had been using the mosque as a base because of its strategic location in the center of the old city of Aleppo.

"It's all blackened now," he said of the mosque, speaking by phone from Aleppo
