A suicide attack on a joint NATO-Afghan foot patrol on Monday killed at least 13 people, including three NATO troops and four Afghan police, ISAF and Afghan officials said.
Six civilians were also killed and 37 were wounded in the attack near a market in the eastern city of Khost, the provincial governor's office said.
"Today at around 8:30 am (0400 GMT) a suicide bomber on a motorcycle targeted a joint patrol in Khost city in a crowded area.
"In this inhuman attack three police and 37 civilians were wounded, and six civilians and four police, including the commander of the quick reaction forces, were killed," the governor's office said in a statement.
Hospital sources put the number of Afghan dead at 10 with more than 60 wounded.
A spokesman for NATO's US-led International Security Assistance Force said he could confirm that three NATO service members had been killed, but that details of the incident were still unclear.
The deaths take coalition casualties to at least 347 this year, according to an AFP tally.

The assault on Saturday night also resulted in Afghan army casualties, NATO's International Security Assistance Force said Sunday, without providing further details.
But police front man Abdul Wali told AFP that two Americans had been killed and three were maimed, while three Afghan army soldiers died and two others were hurt.
The deaths followed "a verbal dispute" during a joint operation in Sayedabad district of Wardak province west of Kabul, the provincial governor's front man Shahidullah Shahid told AFP.
A joint assessment of the incident by ISAF and the Afghanistan National Army is under way.

[An Nahar] Two Kenyan coppers patrolling a city near the border with Somalia were rubbed out Sunday by gunnies suspected of sympathizing with Al-Qaeda linked Shebab cut-thoats, police said.
"The two officers were bumped off while on patrol," a police officer told AFP on condition of anonymity. "Their rifles have been taken away. We highly suspect these are Al-Shabaab ... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda... sympathizers."
The police have urged Kenyans to watch out for possible Dire Revenge™ attacks carried out on Kenyan soil by the Shebab, who have fled the port of Kismayo, their last stronghold, after Kenyan and Somali troops mounted an offensive.

Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) forces have today arrived in the port city of Kismayo, the last rebel bastion in south of Somalia.
Sheikh Ahmed Islam better known as (Ahmed Madobe) chief of Raskamboni militia, told Shabelle Media Network that they have successfully took control of the city, without encountering a fight from Al shabab snuffies who have been in control over the last three years.
"Our plan was to avoid civilian casualties during the take over of Kismayo and the allied forced moved in shortly after Al shabab withdrew this morning," he added.
For the time being, the local residents say Kismayo goes without any control and the Somali and Kenyan troops have not yet arrived into the city, fearing Al shabab might strike back.
Al shabab's front man Sheikh Ali Mohamud Rageh, told the AFP News agency that his fighter retreated for "military tactics". Let them enter Kismayo, which will soon turn into a battlefield."

(Sh.M.Network)--Unknown gangs have on Sunday assassinated a senior Somali government official in Somalia's third largest city of Baidoa, located just 250 Km (159 miles) northwest of Mogadishu, reports said.
Three masked assailants armed with pistols have shot to death Muqtar Qasim, a worker for the government tax office in Baidoa town after leaving mosque and on his way to home, according to witnesses.
"May Allah mercy on him. He was killed by three gunnies belonging to Al Qaeda-linked Al shabab this morning, who escaped the scene after the shooting and security forces arrived,"Governor for Bay region told Shabelle Media Network station in Mogadishu by phone.
No group has yet grabbed credit for the liquidation.
Baidoa, former seat of Somalia's interim government, was captured by Somali and Æthiopian forces On February 22, 2012 from Al shabab, with encountering a fight.

Kenyan warships shelled the southern Somali port of Kismayu overnight after al Qaeda-linked rebels said they had abandoned the city, residents said on Sunday.
Stunned by an assault by sea, air and ground forces late on Friday night, al-Shabaab ... the personification of Somali state failure... rebels fled the city that had been their key source of revenue, retreating to surrounding forests and towns.
However, alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. The Kenya Defence Force (KDF), part of AMISOM, said it had seized the sea port, the police headquarters and the radio station, but a source in the Somalia National Army told Rooters AMISOM was close to taking control of those installations but had not yet done so.
The shells being fired by Kenyan warships may have been targeting remaining pockets of resistance or military installations in the city that was the rebels' last stronghold.
"The ships were firing deafening shells at the outskirts last night but several shells landed on houses," said Samira Ismail, a local mother of four.
Al-Shabaab said two children had been killed and other people maimed in the shelling, a statement rejected as propaganda by Col. Cyrus Oguna, a Kenyan military front man.
Kenyan and Somali troops sent to retake Kismayu from the rebels were on the town's outskirts, Oguna said earlier on Sunday, and were proceeding carefully in case al-Shabaab's claim to have abandoned the city was a ploy to lure them into a trap.
"The troops are consolidating and making plans to expand into the southern part of the city," Oguna told Rooters.

At least two children have been killed and two others maimed when a hand grenade was allegedly thrown into a church in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, police officials say.
Moses Nyakwama, the city's police chief, confirmed the injuries in the attack on Sunday. He said that police suspected the cause of the kaboom was a grenade.
Charles Owino, a deputy police front man, said that the attack at St Polycarp's church occurred on Juja Road, in the eastern part of the city.
The grenade went kaboom!, spraying the children with shrapnel. Blood-stained children's jackets and shoes lay scattered on the floor, surrounded by remnants of metal walls that were broken and twisted by the force of the kaboom.
"The children who attend this service are aged between six and 10... we usually divide them according to their ages," said Livingstone Muiruri. "They had just started the morning session when the kaboom occurred."
"We were in the main church so we all ran there to assist the kids," he said.
Janet Wanja was just entering the church when the blast shook the building.
"I heard a loud kaboom and then heard kids screaming," she said. "I am traumatised by what I saw, kids with injuries and blood all over. "Why are they attacking the church?"
Al-Shabaab suspected
"We suspect this blast might have been carried out by sympathisers of al-Shabaab," said Owino. "These are the kicks of a dying horse since, of late, Kenyan police have incarcerated Book 'im, Mahmoud! several suspects in connection with grenades."
Police were also investigating the possibility that the blast was a result of a bomb that had been placed in the building earlier, Wilfred Mbithi, another senior police official, told AFP.
Following the attack, dozens of angry young men targeted people of Somali appearance and their homes in the area. Police units were deployed to keep the angry mob from causing damage.
The attack on the church came days after Kenyan troops launched an offensive on the southern Somali port of Kismayo, the last stronghold of the al-Shabaab, forcing the fighters to flee.
Masked assailants launched simultaneous gun and grenade raids on two churches in the northern town of Garissa in July, killing at least 17 people.
Kenya has suffered a series of grenade attacks since it sent troops across the border last October in pursuit of al-Shaboobs who it blamed for kidnapping its security personnel and Western tourists.

(Sh.M.Network)--Heavy fighting ... as opposed to the more usual name-calling or slapsy... flared up Sunday in Somalia's port city of Kismayo, 500 Km south of Mogadishu, killing at least 16 combatants on both Somali soldiers and Al shabab cut-thoats, witnesses said.
Military sources who asked anonymity confirmed to Shabelle Media Network the casualties and corpse count, confessing that senior army official whose identity released only as Ga'modhere, was among the dead.
Residents said the fighting erupted on the outskirts of Kismayo when heavily armed Al shabab fighters ambushed on government forces stationed near the town.
Al-Shabaab ... the personification of Somali state failure... rebels pulled out of a key port city in southern Somalia, the group said Saturday, Kenyan troops marched toward the city centre and seaside port that long served as the Orcs and similar vermin key source of funding. The town is not under anyone's control now.

Gunmen detonated a bomb Sunday near an Islamic boarding school in northern Nigeria and later exchanged gunfire with security forces, causing unknown casualties in the region's latest round of violence, officials said.
Sunday's attack hit Zaria, a city in the northern reaches of Kaduna state that is the nerve center of Shiite Mohammedans in a country where Mohammedans are predominantly Sunni. The blast struck the Gaskiya neighborhood in the city, causing some injuries, said Yushau Shuaib, a front man for Nigeria's National Emergency Management Agency.
Ah. Not quid pro quo from the Christians, but quo pro future-quid for the Shiites. How clever of Boko Haram, to be sure.
Following the blast, soldiers and police flooded the area and opened fire on gunnies they suspected of planting the bomb, killing two people, Shuaib said. Local authorities took the injured to a nearby hospital. Police and military officials could not be immediately reached for comment.
The kaboom could have potentially killed more people, but the gunnies ordered the children out of the school before triggering the bomb, according to some witnesses who spoke to officials. The blast destroyed several homes nearby as well.
The Nigerian military had surrounded the blast site hours before as part of an operation to track down members of the radical Islamist sect known as Boko Haram ... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality... , a witness told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named. Soldiers forced those living around the area to flee during the operation, the witness said. The witness spoke on condition of anonymity out of fear of facing reprisals from the government for speaking to a foreign journalist.
It is not clear what led up to the bomb detonation as soldiers had been around the area for hours.

The four-minute video posted on jihadist forums shows the men it says are being held in northern Syria.

The men -- named as Ali al-Salama, Mohammed Abdo al-Mlaiki, Hani Nizar, Hassan al-Wahib and Ahmed Radman -- say they were serving in the northern city of Aleppo ...For centuries, Aleppo was Greater Syria's largest city and the Ottoman Empire's third, after Constantinople and Cairo. "I came after coordination between the Yemeni and Syrian governments to crush the Syrian revolt," says Mlaiki, who like the four other officers is seen sitting below a black flag on which "Al-Nusra Front" is written in Arabic.

[Bangla Daily Star] At least 23 people including eight copperswere maimed in a clash between cops and BNP-Jamaat activists over bringing out a procession in protest against an anti-Islami film at Sunderganj upazila in Gaibandha yesterday.
Police fired a hundred blank shots and two rounds of tear gas to disperse the procession, said Jalal Uddin Ahmed, a sub-inspector of Sunderganj Police Station.
The law enforcers also picked up eight Jamaat activists from the spot, he added.
Police and witnesses said BNP-Jamaat activists brought out the procession in the evening chanting slogans and demanding punishment of the US filmmaker.
When the demonstrators reached the Amtoli point around 6:00pm, a police contingent intercepted the procession and charged truncheons to disperse them.
A running battle between law enforcers and activists started. At one stage, demonstrators threw brick bats at cops, leaving eight coppers, including two assistant sub-inspectors (ASI), injured.
ASI Nitai Chandra was rushed to Rangpur Medial College Hospital in a critical condition. The other injured coppers including ASI Shyamol Chandra, constables Abdur Razzak, Shyamol Kumar were admitted to Sunderganj Health Complex.
The 15 injured activists of BNP-Jamaat were admitted to different local clinics in the district.
Assistant Police Superintendent Mahfuzar Rahman said additional police force had been deployed to avoid further violence.

[Bangla Daily Star] In what turned out to be long hours of arson and vandalism, a mob destroyed 12 Buddhist temples and monasteries and more than 50 houses in Ramu upazila of Cox's Bazar early yesterday. The violence was apparently triggered by a Facebook posting of a photo defaming the holy Koran.
Some myrmidons also vandalised two monasteries and a Hindu temple in Chittagong's Patiya upazila and torched two monasteries at Ukhia and five houses at Teknaf upazila in Cox's Bazar.
Selim Md Jahangir, Cox's Bazar superintendent of police, said three Buddhist temples were burnt to ashes during the frenzy that started around midnight Saturday and continued till 3:00am yesterday. The temples include some century-old pagodas, most revered by the country's minority Buddhists.
Locals, politicians and law enforcers suspected faceless myrmidons and Rohingyas of instigating the violence.
Ramu Upazila Chairman Sohel Sarwar said Death Eaters from the Rakhine state of Myanmar, Rohingyas -- the Myanmarese ethnic group who often intrude into Bangladesh -- and anti-liberation forces might have had a hand in the attacks.
Locals said the rioters blamed the spread of the photo on a local Buddhist, identified as Uttam Kumar Barua, son of Supto Barua of Baruapara at Ramu.
Ashutosh Barua, a government official of the upazila, told The Daily Star that 25-year-old Uttam worked as an assistant deed writer in Ramu upazila. Some media reports have quoted a minister as saying the youth was an employee of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC). The Daily Star was yet to verify it.
Uttam claimed someone had tagged him in the photo on the social network site. Soon after the violence broke out, his Facebook account was closed and police escorted him and his mother Madhu Barua to safety, said SP Selim.
Abdur Rahim, manager of Diamond Restaurant at Kolatoli in Cox's Bazar, told a correspondent of The Daily Star yesterday afternoon that many in his neighbourhood had received the anti-Islam picture over their mobile phones through Bluetooth. He too got it from a Rohingya man, whose name he couldn't say.
Issuing a blurb yesterday, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission said on its request, the Facebook authority had removed the derogatory photo of the holy Koran.
The BTRC also said it would continue efforts to get anti-Islam elements removed from social network sites and it urged all to refrain from posting and circulating anti-religious posts, messages and pictures.
Yesterday morning, the Cox's Bazar district administration imposed Section 144 in Ramu.
Members of the armed forces and strong contingents of law enforcers were deployed to contain the situation, with government ministers rushing to the spot.
In the capital, addressing a press briefing, Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu alleged that communal forces had been involved in the Ramu violence.
"We have information that identified communal forces of Ramu and Cox's Bazar were present during the violence. The government will find them and ensure stern punishment."
HOW VIOLENCE FLARED UP
Police and witnesses said after the spread of the news about the Facebook photo, hundreds of people thronged Choumuhani area of Ramu and staged angry demonstration around 10:00pm Saturday.
Police from Ramu upazila tried to cordon off the area but were soon outnumbered and pushed back.
Nojibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Ramu Police Station, said several thousand people on trucks from Gorjonia, Rashidnagar, Jhilongja, Eidgaon, Kochhopia and Rajarkul areas of the upazila swarmed into Choumuhani.
Around midnight, chanting slogans Naraye Takbir Allahu Akbar, they started ravaging and setting Buddhist temples and houses afire, he added.
Riot police and Rab arrived around 11:00pm, but by then hundreds of people had set fire to Buddhist households in Baruapara.
Around 12:30am, a mob burned down a 250-year-old Buddhist temple on Cheranghata road, Borokang Buddha Bihar and Kendriyo Shima Bihar. An angry mob also vandalised Baruapara Buddhist temple at Srikul of Ramu.
Buddhist people started to flee their homes as the fire services failed to reach the spot amid increasing violence around 1:00am.
With the help of police, the fire services managed to douse the blaze around 2:30am but the temples and the houses had already been gutted by then.
Pragganando Bhikkhu, resident director of the 250-year-old Shima Bihar, said some 80 to 90 people wearing red bandanas on the forehead spread gun powder and petrol and torched the temple late last night. The monks tried to douse the blaze but the myrmidons obstructed them.
Around 3:30am, the BGB, Rab and police managed to quell the violence and bring the situation under control with the help of local influential people, including politician Lutfur Rahman and Ramu Upazila Gay Pareehad Chairman Sohel Sarwar.
Since yesterday morning army, BGB, Rab and police have been guarding all the 27 Buddhist monasteries and temples in Ramu.
However, a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package... police were unable to confirm the number of injured persons as most Buddhist people have been in hiding since Saturday night.
The damaged temples include Progga Mitra Bihar, Uttar Mithachari Bimurta Bhabona Kendra, Ukhia Ghona Jojoba Bihar, Srikul Maitree Bihar, Srikul Natun Bihar, Lal Ching Bihar, Sada Ching Bihar, Mahajan Bihar and Ramu Kendrya Shima Rajbon Bihar at Merongloa area.
Biplob Barua, a victim of the incident, said the demonstrators had burnt his house with gunpowder.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jahirul Islam told the Daily Star that some 500 demonstrators had burnt a temple named Pashchim Ratna Sudarshan Buddha Bihar in Kotbari area around 7:30pm yesterday.
He said he had heard a gunshot but could not confirm its source.
The mob left the scene after police rushed there and opened blank fire to disperse them.
Meanwhile, ...back at the alley, Slats Chumbaloni was staring into a hole that was just .45 inch in diameter and was less than three feet from his face ... some people attacked Balukia Kalachand Bijoyanta Bibekaram Bihar around 7:00am, locals said. But the UNO could not confirm it.

Some myrmidons in Patiya yesterday morning vandalised the Hindu temple Kolagaon Nabarun Sangha Durga Mandir and Buddhist monasteries Kolagaon Sarbojanin Ratnangkur Buddha Bihar and Lakhera Avoy Bihar.
Upazila Chairman Md Idris said the mob had demolished the idols.
Police cooled for a few years Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un! 26 persons in connection with the incidents, said OC Aminur Rashid of Patiya Police Station. Most of the arrestees are workers of the Western Marine Shipyard, he said. Patiya police said the workers had joined a local gang.
Reached over phone, Western Marine Chairman Saiful Islam denied the allegation. He said some 10 to 12 workers who took part in the vandalism were not employees of Western Marine; they worked for the company's sub-contractor.

Local sources said some thousand people went to Hoyangton union to destroy a Buddhist temple around 7:30pm. But they failed as police and BGB members opened blank fire to disperse them. Police also baton-charged the mob, injuring at least 10.
The unruly people attacked the Buddha neighbourhood and set five houses on fire.

A total of seven unidentified immolated bodies were found in Michoacan state Sunday morning, according to Mexican news accounts.
A report posted on the website of Cambio de Michoacan news daily reported that the find was made at around 1050 Sunday morning at Kilometer 4 of the Yurecuaro, Michoacan-La Concepcion, Jalisco road in Yurecuaro municipality.
The bodies were found aboard a Chevrolet sedan, which had been reported carjacked last September 16th. Four of the victims had been decapitated.
According to data compiled at Borderlandbeat.com, including this latest find, since September 14th a total of 31 victims have been found in the Michoacan-Jalisco border region. A new conflict between Los Zetas and Los Caballeros Templarios drug gangs has intensified there, since an internal power struggle within Los Zetas has made itself apparent.

Seven unidentified men were found butchered and stuffed into two vehicles in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, according to Mexican news accounts.
A news dispatch posted on the website of Vanguardia news daily reported that the victims were stuffed into a Ford Lobo (F-150) pickup truck and a Ford Explorer. The site was discovered at around 1100 hrs Sunday morning near the local Walmart shopping center.
All but one of the victims were in their 30s, with the other in his 50s. All victims had been dismembered.
According to data compiled from news reports which appeared on BorderlandBeat.com, at least 44 individuals have been killed in Tamaulipas state in drug-related violence since September 7th, which includes executions and murders, intergang gunfights and security forces encounters with armed suspects.

[Dawn] A woman was killed and two others received injuries when two mortar shells hit a residential area in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency on Saturday.
Sources said that wife of Brekh Mohammad was killed on the spot when a mortar shell fired from an unknown direction hit his house in Yousaf Talab area of Sipah in Bara.
In a similar incident in the same vicinity, wife of Said Karim and daughter of Haji Mohammad were critically injured when a mortar shell fell on the house of Mr Karim.
The injured were shifted to a hospital in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar ...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire. as most of the health centres in Bara have been closed since the launch of military operation in the area in September 2009.
In Kohat district, unidentified forces of Evil made a failed attempt Curses! Foiled again! to target a patrolling party of police in Shadikhel area on Saturday.
The officials of Bomb Disposal Squad said that forces of Evil had planted a time device weighing five kilograms along the road near Algada area in the limits of Shadikhel checkpost. At the time of the blast, the post in-charge, Anwar Shah, and six constables were patrolling the area in a vehicle.
Police said that as soon as the vehicle approached the area the bomb went kaboom! but nobody was hurt in the blast.
However, there's more than one way to stuff a chicken... the vehicle was partially damaged in the kaboom.
Police cordoned of the whole area and launched a search operation after the incident but didn't arrest anyone. Police started the paperwork but haven't done much else against unidentified terrorists.

[Dawn] At least 5,000 people rallied inBloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It may be the largest city in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... on Sunday to denounce a US-made anti-Islam film and the publication of blasphemous cartoons in La Belle France, police and witnesses said.
Police beefed up security for the rally, which was organised by the Sunni thug group Ahle Sunnat wa Al-Jamaat, while paramilitary forces also deployed.
"Beheading is the only one punishment for blasphemy," read one banner. "We demand all French and US diplomatic missions shut in Pakistain," said another, as protesters shouted: "We are ready to sacrifice our lives for the honour of Prophet Mohammed!"
Senior police official Amir Lodhi said that "about 5,000 people were in the rally", adding that organisers made assurances they would not march towards the US consulate.
The rally dispersed peacefully, an AFP news hound said.
The crudely made "Innocence of Mohammedans" movie has sparked angry and at times violent demonstrations across the globe.
Meanwhile French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo published the controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad, further inflaming Mohammedan sentiment.
Pakistain experienced the worst of the violence over the film when nationwide rallies mobilised more than 45,000 earlier in September, many members of right-wing religious parties.
At least 21 people were killed and 229 maimed, mainly in festivities with police.

Coordinated bombings shattered Shia neighbourhoods and struck at Iraqi security forces on Sunday, killing at least 26 in attacks that one official described as a rallying call by al-Qaeda just days after dozens of gunnies beat feet from prison.
The blasts brought September's corpse count from sectarian violence to nearly 200 people -- a grim, above-average monthly total for the period since US troops left last year. The steady pace of attacks has worked to undermine confidence in the government.
"The people are fed up with the killings in Iraqi cities," said Ammar Abbas, 45, a Shia and government employee who lives in a Storied Baghdad ...located along the Tigris River, founded in the 8th century, home of the Abbasid Caliphate... neighbourhood near one of the bombings. "The government officials should feel shame for letting their people die at the hands of terrorists."
Police said the wave of kabooms stretched from the restive but oil-rich city of Kirkuk in the north to the southern Shia town of Kut, wounding at least 94 people. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks, but bombings are a hallmark of al-Qaeda in Iraq, the Sunni insurgency that has been struggling for years to goad Shia militias back towards civil war.
A key Shia politician said the bombings likely sought to galvanise al-Qaeda in the wake of a prison break last Friday in Saddam Hussein's northern hometown of Tikrit. Scores of inmates escaped -- including as many as 47 convicted al-Qaeda gunnies -- in a massive security lapse that the government acknowledged had help from inside.
"Al-Qaeda leaders have no intention of leaving this country or letting Iraqis live in peace," said Hakim al-Zamili, a Shia member of parliament's security committee. "The jailbreak in Tikrit has boosted al-Qaeda's morale in Iraq and thus we should expect more attacks in the near future."
"The situation in Iraq is still unstable," Zamili added. "And repetition of such attacks shows that our security forces are still unqualified to deal with the terrorists."
Spokesmen for the government and Storied Baghdad's military command could not immediately be reached for comment.
Sunday's deadliest attack struck the town of Taji, a former al-Qaeda stronghold just north of Storied Baghdad. Police said three explosive-rigged cars in a Shia neighbourhood went off within minutes of each other, killing eight and wounding 28 in back-to-back blasts that began around 7:15am.
At almost the same time, in Storied Baghdad, police said a jacket wallah set off his explosives-packed car in the north-west Shia neighbourhood of Shula. One person was killed and seven maimed. Police could not immediately identify the target.
"So many people were hurt. A leg of a person was amputated," said Shula resident Naeem Frieh. "What have those innocent people done to deserve this?"
The chain reaction of blasts continued throughout the morning, petering off around noon.
Another suicide bomber drove a minibus into a security checkpoint in Kut, 1100 miles south-east of Storied Baghdad. Three coppers were killed and five maimed.
A military patrol hit a roadside kaboom in Tarmiyah, about an hour north of Storied Baghdad, killing two soldiers and wounding six passers-by, officials said.
And car booms went kaboom! outside the northern city of Kirkuk, ... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time... the north-eastern towns of Balad Ruz and Khan Bani Saad in Diyala province, and in the town of Madain outside Storied Baghdad. In all, seven people were killed.
Also in Storied Baghdad, a double car boom struck the mostly Shia neighbourhood of Karradah in the most recent episode of an all-too-familiar turban tactic. The first kaboom came as a security patrol passed, killing a police officer and a bystander, and wounding eight other people. As emergency responders rushed to the scene, the second car blew up, killing three passers-by and injuring 12, according to officials.

A villager was killed and two others injured in two separate incidents in Yala province on Sunday.
In the first incident, the body of a man, identified as Maruseng Mading, 18, was found on Yaha-Ban Niang road early Sunday morning. Maruseng was shot once in the torso. A motorcycle was found lying by his side. He was thought to have been shot by drive-by assailants late on Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
In Muang district, two women were attacked by two men who followed them on a motorcycle with pistols while travelling on another motorcycle along Yala-Betong road. Yaowamal Sukhanoen, 50, was hit in the back and her daughter Patchaya, 26, in the right thigh.
A man and his wife were shot and seriously injured while returning home from tapping rubber in Pattani province on Sunday morning.
While Somchit Sawangmek, 42, and his wife Kongsri Namnong-o, 46, were returning to their village from a rubber plantation on a motorcycle, they were followed by two men on another motorcycle. The two men opened fire at them with handguns, injuring both of them seriously.
PATTANI, Thailand -- Thai police believe Islamist terrorists insurgents fired grenades at a fair in southern Thailand, injuring 30 people, in anger over government efforts to win over local Muslim religious leaders.
Police Lt. Col. Krajang Raknarong said Sunday the terrorists attackers fired grenades at a security checkpoint near the trade fair in Narathiwat province's Bajoh district on Saturday. Thirty people were hurt, four seriously, when two grenades exploded near fair booths.
At least five people were killed in southern Thailand on Saturday in separate shooting attacks blamed by police on the terrorists insurgents.
The local district chief and security officials met religious elders earlier Saturday as part of official efforts to win the trust of local Muslims. I'm sure that went well...

[An Nahar] Fierce fighting broke out in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo ...For centuries, Aleppo was Greater Syria's largest city and the Ottoman Empire's third, after Constantinople and Cairo. Although relatively close to Damascus in distance, Aleppans regard Damascenes as country cousins... on Sunday as rebels attacked an army checkpoint near the capital, killing nine soldiers, monitors said.
Hours after a fire tore through a historic souk in Aleppo, fighting erupted in and around the Old City as rebels tried to seize control the district, said Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Since last week, much of the fighting has focused on the area around the Old City, and this is believed to have sparked the fire in the centuries-old souk which destroyed many shops, said an AFP correspondent and the Observatory.
Meanwhile the army subjected several of the city's districts to intense shelling, and battled rebels in the northern district of Jandul, said the Observatory.
"There were many rebels and soldiers killed, but both sides are trying to conceal their casualties," Abdel Rahman told AFP.
Among the districts shelled by the army overnight were the southwestern neighborhood of Salaheddin, the main theater of combat between rebels and troops in mid-summer, the Britannia-based watchdog said.
In Damascus ...Capital of the last remaining Baathist regime in the world... province, the rebel Free Syrian Army attacked an army checkpoint on the road linking the southwestern town of Qatana to the capital, killing nine soldiers, the Observatory said.
The FSA also attacked a checkpoint in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor, killing four soldiers, the monitoring group said.
Many areas of both Damascus province and Deir Ezzor have suffered intense army assaults, as the regime of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Horror of Homs... tries to crush the insurgency.
Also in Damascus province, soldiers backed by aerial firepower stormed the rebel stronghold of Harasta as regime forces carried out arrest raids in the town of Zabadani, said the Observatory.
Violence across Syria killed at least 118 people on Saturday -- 48 civilians, 41 soldiers and 29 rebels, the Observatory said, adding to its toll of over 30,000 killed since an anti-regime uprising erupted in March 2011.

"A suicide terrorist using a car laden with explosives attacked the western district of Qamishli," said the state broadcaster, adding that at least four people were killed.
But the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights gave a higher corpse count and said the attack targeted a security headquarters.
"At least eight members of the security forces were killed, and 15 were maimed," said the Britannia-based monitoring group, adding that the blast was followed by heavy gunfire.
Amateur video uploaded on YouTube by activists showed a cloud of thick smoke rising over the city.
This was the first time since the outbreak of an anti-regime revolt that Qamishli witnessed such a violent attack, Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said.
"It is the only city with a Kurdish majority that still has a solid security presence," Abdel Rahman said, adding that the target of the blast was a regional security headquarters for Kurdish districts.
Abdel Rahman said that the military pulled out of Kurdish regions in the north, including Qamishli, several months ago and that the rebel Free Syrian Army has no presence whatsoever in the city. But a small number of autonomous fighters are still there.
Residents of Qamishli said they were terrified by the force of the blast.
"The earth shook beneath us, the force of the kaboom was immense," said an activist who identified himself as Serdar.
"I was at a nearby hospital at the time of the blast," Serdar told AFP via the Internet. "Many injured people were rushed to the hospital for treatment. There was broken glass on the streets. God protect Qamishli."
"I spoke to my family, who lives around three kilometers (two miles) from the site of the blast. They were terrified," exiled Kurdish activist Massoud Akko told AFP via the Internet.
