Who made the decision that telling the head of the hyper-power was a higher priority than telling the head of the murdered man's government? And why, when it appears to me, in my ignorance, that China's policies and practices won't change immediately as a result, and therefore no immediate planning or response on the part of America will be needed.

If I am following the article:
(1) Man dies; (2) Chinese tell US diplomats; (3) US President gets briefing really, really quickly; (4) someone finally picks up a phone to pass the information to the British; and therefore:
"It's a Conspiracy! Deep, dark and most-foul conspiracy sez' I!"
Weak tea... Agreeing with TW, the interesting bit is why the Chinese felt a need to drop the dime in the first place, hmmm? To assure the US that there was no Stalin-style Purge in the offing? Or that there would be no interruption in Sino-American *cough* campaign cash bundling?

over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
