This study systematically compared health indicators in the United States and England from childhood through old age (ages 080 years). Per capita spending on health care is higher in the United States than in any other country and double that in the United Kingdom. Despite the high rate of spending, adults aged 50 years or older in the United States have significantly worse health status (24) and lower life expectancy (1, 5) than those in England. &c. Be advised this will be used to defend Obamacare. Epidemiology has its uses, I don't think this qualifies. I don't consider Viagra use or the bulk of plastic surgery (as used in the US) to be 'health care', but rather spending on 'recreation' and 'cosmetics'. US Pharma companies are some of the most profitable rent-seekers in world history. Most likely this study lumps all such spending together. The authors mention they will provide sub-study data on request. One sub-study could be eliminating the effect on US health of what I call the 'death zone' in the states of the old Confederacy, whose community health status is typically much, much worse than the rest of the US, for unknown reasons.

Most Americans have better health than most Britons. However, black Americans have significantly worse health than white Americans. Black male health and infant mortality is particularly bad.
Black Americans have an average life expectancy of 73.3 years, five years shorter than white Americans.
Black American males have a life expectancy of 69.8 years, slightly longer than the averages for Iran and Syria and slightly shorter than in Nicaragua and Morocco.
A relatively high percentage of babies born in the U.S. die before their first birthday, compared with other industrialized nations.
The U.S. rate was 6.8 deaths for every 1,000 live births. It was 13.7 for Black Americans, the same as Saudi Arabia.
Health indicators in the southeastern US deviate so much from the rest of the US that, when this portion of the US is excluded from national statistics, the remainder of the country suddenly looks a great deal 'healthier.'

Obamacare will cost the US around $1 trillion a year. A Trillion. We only have a $14 Trillion economy at the best of times, and this stupid assed government already scrapes $3 Trillion off the top to employ 22 million idiots. Every dollar in that government is a dollar not on the street.

Romney would be better than Obama, but he is still a Massachusetts Republican which means he loves to spend (See country club Republican or RHINO) and we wouldn't get the reforms we desperately need.
Looking at Pawlenty and Cain myself. Although West on the ticket would make me very happy.

I really like West too. However I'm afraid that the Lamestream Media and hollywood will twist what happened with him in Iraq into the second coming of Adolf Hitler.
It'll be a total lie (since when has that stopped the MSM) and complete and total bullshit. But enough people would be stupid enough to actually believe it. Just look what they did to Sarah Palin.

What the COL did was take care of his Soldiers at the expense of the enemy. A true leader indeed.
I would be happy with Cain - really happy. A T-PAW would be great on the tix as well as West. I love them all.
I picked Cain because he is a communicator, and not part of the club.
Just awesome that they all have a chance. Never believe anyone who says not. We must pick the correct candidate this time. I believe Cain would nail the stupid a-hole to the wall in a debate.

Oh I agree newsc - what COL West did was proper and what a officer is supposed to do - take care of his men even if it's at the expense of the enemy. But that is not what will be shown by the media or hollywood (most of which simply cannot comprehend the concept of 'taking care of your men').
They will twist it around so it shows West as someone who tortured and trampled the rights of the poor, misunderstood, terrorists freedom-fighter in order to kill other freedom-fighters who were only defending their homes from EVIL American Imperialism who wanted to steal their precious bodily fluids oil....
(pardon me - I have to go clean my hands after typing that...)

CrazyFool, it is quite appearant to me that the people on this board predominately understand the difference between right and wrong. I am impressed by the Rantburg on an hourly basis - seeing all of you fine souls here didacting if for the only purpose of fulfilling our Oath, or leaving a better nation than what we have today.
I cannot impart to you the seriousness of my quest, nor may you be able to see it, yet I will tell you it will be for the good of OUR Nation and of use to good powers.
bman, my post on Cain is here. I Love that man, and all of you who are paying attention to the real news.
West was operating in "grey" area of strategy with very little, he did very much. THATS a Leader. Cain as well. YOU are the ones with whom I like to spend my time in the rant - so to speak.

Kerry proves one can actually SHOOT and KILL a wounded enemy combatant and become a US Senator. LTC(Ret) West may have a chance. He never killed anyone, he only threatened to castrate via 9mm.

Much as we need string candidates on the national level, it's more important that political newcomers like Congressman West have time to get experience and build a political resume as well as whatever they did to demonstrate ability and character in their previous careers. Sarah Palin would have been better shielded from leftwing nonsense had she at least a full term as governor under her belt before stepping up as McCain's VP candidate -- anyone, even one not so beautiful and articulate as she, would have been labelled "just a pretty face".
The skills of running a campaign and responding to effectively to scurrilous charges are best not learnt on the fly. I want my guy to win on proven ability and principle, not hope and change -- part of the current president's problems is that he simply hasn't the experience to recognize the problems he's facing, let alone the tools necessary to fix said problems.
I'm praying Governor Guiliani decides to throw his hat in the ring again. He'd tear President Obama a couple of new ones while deciding how to have his eggs for breakfast.
Its another courtroom victory for the terror victims - this one against the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Holy Land Foundation (HLF). The District Court in Dallas has just handed down a historic court decision with truly far-reaching implications. The Court in Texas has found that the terror victim's right to collect on their judgments against the terrorist groups, their front-charity organizations and the outlaw regimes overrides the government's right to confiscate the terrorists' assets.
On September 4, 1997 three Hamas suicide bombers detonated themselves on the crowded Ben Yehuda pedestrian mall in downtown Jerusalem. The terror attack left 5 dead and 181 wounded. One of the murdered and many of those who had been seriously injured were U.S.citizens unlucky enough to be on Ben Yehuda Street when Hamas targeted this popular tourist locale. Along with American attorney David Strachman, we filed a lawsuit in 2002 against both the government of Iran and against Hamas in the federal court in Washington, DC. Two years later, after Hamas refused to defend itself in the civil action, a judgment was entered on behalf of the families in the amount of $214.5 million.
This same year, the DOJ filed an indictment against a Texas based Palestinian charity, the now infamous HLF. The U.S. alleged that the HLF was the financial arm of Hamas in America. In addition to charging its leaders with material support for terrorism and money laundering, all of the HLF's bank accounts were frozen by the DOJ. We discovered that the HLF had bank accounts in New York, New Jersey, South Carolina, Illinois, and Washington and immediately filed execution proceedings in all these places to satisfy, in part, the victim's judgment against Hamas.
Next the DOJ filed a restraining order to block the victim's families from collecting the funds. They argued that once the DOJ had filed its indictment against the Palestinian charity, the HLF's assets had been forfeited to the government under the Criminal Forfeiture Statute and the families were out of luck.
Opinion piece from a foundation and Time Magazine. It's interesting in that it blames 9/11 on bin Laden -- nice to see the MSM get something right -- and posits that al-Qaeda's downfall began at that point.
In other words, don't tug on Superman's cape.
Interesting tidbits about bin Laden's faith and ideology. Worth the read.
