(KUNA) -- Reacting to the news on Friday that the U.S. unemployment rate remained stuck at 9.6 percent last month even though the private sector added 159,000 jobs in October, President Barack B.O. Obama said he was "open to any idea" to get the U.S. economy growing faster.
"Based on today's jobs report, we have now seen private-sector job growth for 10 straight months," Obama said in remarks from the White House. "That means that since January, the private sector has added 1.1 million jobs." However, The infamous However... "that is not good enough," he added.
"We are in the middle of a tough fight to get our economy growing faster so that businesses across our country can open and expand, so that people can find good jobs, and so that we can repair the terrible damage that was done by the worst recession in our lifetimes," he said.
U.S. businesses added more than a hundred thousand jobs in August and September, "so we have now seen four months of private-sector job growth above a hundred thousand, which is the first time we have seen this kind of increase in over four years," the President noted. But the United States needs to accelerate economic growth "so that we are producing jobs at a faster pace, because the fact is an encouraging jobs report does not make a difference if you are still one of the millions of people who are looking for work, and I will not be satisfied until everybody who is looking for a job can find one," he said.
Obama said actions to take could include tax breaks for small businesses, such as "deferring taxes on new equipment so that they have got an incentive to expand and hire, as well as tax cuts to make it cheaper for entrepreneurs to start companies." This includes building new infrastructure, from high-speed trains to high-speed Internet, so that the U.S. economy can run faster and smarter, he said.
"It includes promoting research and innovation, and creating incentives in growth sectors like the clean-energy economy, and it certainly includes keeping tax rates low for middle-class families, and extending unemployment benefits to help those hardest hit by the downturn, while generating more demand in the economy," he added.
Another key to creating jobs is to open markets to American goods made by American workers, the President said.
"Our prosperity depends not just on consuming things, but also on being the maker of things," he said. "In fact, for every 1 billion dollars we increase in exports, thousands of jobs are supported here at home, and that is why I have set a goal of doubling America's exports over the next five years." Obama, who will depart on Friday for India, said he plans while there to discuss opening up additional markets in places such as India so that American businesses can sell more products abroad in order to create more jobs at home. The most important competition Americans face is the competition with countries around the world to lead the global economy, "and our success or failure in this race will depend on whether we can come together as a nation," he said. "Our future depends on putting politics aside to solve problems, to worry about the next generation instead of the next election." "We cannot spend the next two years mired in gridlock," he added. "Other countries, like China, are not standing still, so we cannot stand still either. We have got to move forward." The President said he was "looking very much forward to helping to pry some markets open, help American businesses and put people back to work here at home during the course of this trip."

Repeal all health care laws, account for TARP money, and make a statement that the gov will not bailout failed businesses again.
No I'm not being hacky...businesses do not want to spend because they do not know their future expenses and do not want to chance hiring a bunch of people and be responsible for their health care expenses.
Where did the money go? Are we now indentured servants living on Chinese property? Pay off that debt.
By propping up the banks and autos, failure was rewarded. The autos were not able to declare bankruptcy and renegotiate with their unions. There are many fine banks out there who were going to flourish but were struck down with the saving of the failed banks and then doubled up upon with new FDIC regulations. Disintegrate Freddy/Fannie.
So yes, hit the reset button or your parlance call a mulligan.

I agree that she's unqualified. I doubt anyone is truly qualified. She's less unqualified than Zero & Slow Joe were/are, about as unqualified as McCain, and a bit more unqualified than W.

I saw an interview with W where he refused to get sucked into the "endorsement" or "qualification" discussion. Any opinions from W are probably third hand and should be questioned re validity.

ok, she's a former state governer who stayed in office for just 2 years. She also went to The University of Idaho. OK GW was Gov for a long time and didnt quit, oh yeah we graduated from Yale as well. there's a BIG difference between the qualified former Prez. and the unqualified half educated hack.
During which she was hounded by a Donk operative who repeatedly filed ethics charges causing the family to drain their resources to cover the legal costs. It's the old lawyer ploy of raising the cost of litigation to the point to force a subject to choose between bankruptcy or an out. Just look up to see the Righthaven gambit at work.

I'm afraid that the Bush family, and many of their colleagues, are firmly entrenched in what used to be called the "Country Club Republicans."
They are Republican elitist liberals, but not RINOs. They despise Democrats as untermensch, but who can at least throw a respectable cocktail party, and wear designer clothes at the Kennedy Center.
Conservative Republicans, however, they sneer at as being "nekulturny", probably in agreement with Obama about their "clinging to their religion and guns." This disgust shines out from people like W. Bush and Karl Rove, and his opinions of O'Donnell, Angle, and Palin.
Conservatives don't even attend Ivy League schools, so have no place in the top leadership of CIA, or any of the other schoolboy institutions reserved for the elites. They would probably wear overalls in the office, put their muddy boots up on the desk, drink beer and eat BBQ pork ribs on their lunch break.
Totally unacceptable behavior, in the minds of CC Republicans.

This story was written by a British reporter, published in a British newspaper, and as far as I can tell is based on nothing but an anonymous source or two and some former White House staffer who thinks he saw a twinkle in Bush's eye when Bush first heard of Palin, and may have joked "Is she the governor of Guam ?". It's not a story at all - it's just more Labor/Liberal/Democrat fabri-prop.
Palin was more qualified than Zero (who had no executive experience - has never held a real job - voting "Present" isn't a job). Smarter than Biden (how hard is that?).

Indeed, Governor Palin has more experience and insight than the current president. But the bottom line is she does not yet have the length and depth of experience she needs to handle the job as well as is needed. Neither does the current occupant of the White House, and we see the result, separate from whether or not one approves of the gentleman's goals.
I say this as someone who voted for Sarah Palin and whatsisname in the last election.

I doubt that G.W. said this. Not his style. He has remained silent for two years about the current administration although he more than likely has opinions about it.
Story sounds more like a MSM hit piece. Both donks and rinos are after Palin to try to make sure she does not run in 2012.
I'm beginning to think she sounds like a genius compared to the current administration leadership.

Firstly, I too seriously doubt President Bush said such a thing. Secondly, no one enters parenthood with "proper prior qualifications" but the vast majority rise to the occasion and do reasonably well in the end.

(KUNA) -- With news overnight that U.S. Democratic Senator Patty Murray of Washington state had defeated her Republican challenger and will win a fourth term, only one Senate race -- in Alaska -- remained undecided three days after the midterm elections.
Alaska Senator Lisa Daddy, can I be a senator? Murkowski waged a write-in campaign against the Republican who beat her in the primary, Joe Miller, and Democratic nominee Scott McAdams.
Democrats will still control the Senate with 53 seats. Murkowski has said that if she wins re-election as in independent, she will caucus with the Republicans. The victory by Murray in Washington state was secured Thursday night as tallies pushed her lead to about 46,000 votes out of more than 1.8 million counted, or about 51 percent to 49 percent. About three-quarters of the expected ballots had been counted in unofficial returns.

[Washington Examiner] The vote counting was completed Friday in Northern Virginia's 11th Congressional District race and Democratic incumbent Rep. Gerry Connolly has declared victory.
After all ballots were counted in the three communities that make up the district -- Fairfax County, Fairfax City and Prince William County -- Connolly held an unofficial 968-vote lead over Republican challenger Keith Fimian, according to the state Board of Elections. Connolly's lead has grown as officials continued to count ballots beyond Tuesday's election.
"With the vote count complete, I want to reiterate my deep gratitude to the voters of the 11th Congressional District of Virginia for electing me to a second term in the U.S. House of Representatives," Connolly said in a statement
Fimian has not yet conceded defeat and his campaign manager, Tim Edson, late Friday derided Connolly for claiming victory before the vote was officially certified by state election officials.
"Once again we see Congressman Connolly holding himself to one standard and everyone else to another," Edson said. "Connolly wants to accelerate the legal process for his own political motives instead of letting it play out according to the law. There is no reason to rush the process and take the chance of getting the results wrong. Keith Fimian is abiding by the legal process as it continues to unfold."
Edson stopped short of saying Fimian would request a recount. Fimian will have that option because the margin between the candidates is less than 1 percent of the total vote. He has to wait until the state Board of Elections certifies the vote Nov. 22 before requesting a recount.

[Bangla Daily Star] Democratic Senator Patty Murray narrowly held her seat from Washington state, cushioning her party's majority in elections where Republicans made huge gains, results showed Thursday. Drat, blast and damn.
Murray's Republican opponent Dino Rossi conceded after the latest official tally showed Murray with a lead of some 46,000 votes, or 51.26 percent, from Tuesday's ballot.
"This evening, I called Senator Murray to offer my congratulations on her re-election to the US Senate," Rossi said in a statement.
"I ran for the Senate because I believe we need a basic course correction... That was a message that found a very receptive audience all across this state, though not quite receptive enough."
The win from the northwest state left the Democratic side with 53 seats, including two who are independents but normally vote with the Democratic caucus -- and the Republicans with 46.
One more race remained undecided, in Alaska, where Republican Senator Lisa Daddy, can I be a senator? Murkowski -- who ran as a write-in candidate after losing in the primary -- was leading a three-way race with 41 percent.
But Murkowski said the results would not be clear until absentee ballots are counted, starting next week. She expressed confidence in winning.
"Our goal on election night was to end up with 40 percent of the vote and a lead of 10,000 votes in order to feel confident with our position heading into the count of absentee and question ballots that will occur over the next couple weeks," she said.
"We exceeded our goals with 41 percent of the vote and a lead of about 13,500 votes."

Woulda been nice. However, it sucked up a lot of reelection money that had to stay home rather than be transferred to other races. Now is the time to id the races in 2012 to start the process to force her brethren to consume their reelection coffers as the other Donks are not in a position to transfer funds after this experience. Attrit their funding base. He who defends everything, defends nothing.

I hope the Democrats enjoy their Senate majority for the next two years. Of its 53 members, I believe 23 are up for reelection in 2012. Many are in purple states.
Obama, Reid, and Pelosi are still talking hard left/big spending. Let's see if rank and file Democrats worried about (their) jobs follow them.
