Insane killer escapes on field trip to county fair
Police are searching for killer committed to a mental institution after he escaped during a field trip to the Spokane County Interstate Fair.
I'll seen this movie...no, I haven't. Not even the most lame horror writer would dream this up.
Spokane County sheriff's Sgt. Dave Reagan says 57-year-old Phillip Arnold Paul was last seen Thursday morning in the northeast part of the fairgrounds.

The sheriff's office told KXLY in Spokane that they were "dismayed" that the Eastern State's Hospital didn't notify authorities for more than an hour and a half after they knew he was missing. "It appears now there was a two hour lapse from the point he disappeared from his attendant to the sheriff's office was notified of his escape and obviously that's a concern to us," Sgt. Reagan told KXLY. "We're concerned that we were not aware that people of his criminal history were being brought to the fair for day trips. As a courtesy we would have liked to have been notified ahead of time."
I think the fair goers would share your concern
In 1987, Paul slashed an elderly woman's throat in Sunnyside in 1987, soaked her body in gasoline to throw off search dogs and buried the remains in her flower garden. He was later diagnosed as being criminally insane and suffering from schizophrenia, KXLY reported. Paul claimed the voices in this head told him the woman was a witch, according to the station.
My cats told me to not to listen to the voices in my head.
He was acquitted by reason of insanity but committed to Eastern State Hospital indefinitely.

Had the institution told the police about the incident earlier, the "odds of catching him would have been much greater," Reagan said. Eastern State Hospital declined comment.
I'll bet
A store clerk told authorities she saw someone matching Paul's description later in the morning, and Reagan says investigators believe he has gotten outside the fairgrounds. "His sister tells us he calls his parents in Sunnyside virtually every day and that if he's escaped he's headed home," Reagan told the station.
Krazed killers always come home
The fair's director told KXLY that they were unaware a group from the hospital was at the fair.

In 1996, a judge allowed Paul to attend Spokane Community College during the day as long as the went back to Eastern State Hospital at night, according to the station. Two years later another judge ruled he could have overnight visits in Spokane as long as an adult member of his fmaily was present.

It's not the first time Paul has escaped. In 1990 he walked away from custody and attacked a sheriff's deputy who apprehended him.

Former high ranking anti-drug official arrested - secret ally of drug lords
As a high-ranking U.S. anti-drug official, Richard Padilla Cramer held front-line posts in the war on Mexico's murderous cartels. He led an office of two dozen agents in Arizona and was the attache for Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Guadalajara.

While in Mexico, however, Cramer also served as a secret ally of drug lords, according to federal investigators.

Cramer allegedly advised traffickers on law enforcement tactics and pulled secret files to help them identify turncoats.

Bangladesh
Criminals shoot woman failing to get toll
[Bangla Daily Star] The daughter of a real estate company owner was injured in a gun attack by some criminals at the city's Mirpur last night allegedly due to her father's refusal to pay toll money.
"Toll" in Bangla = "grease."
Injured Suriya Jalal Sumi, 26, an expatriate in Italy and daughter of Saptasindhu owner Jalal Ahmed, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with a bullet injury in her back. Family sources said three unknown persons pressed the doorbell of Jalal's residence in Mirpur-2 around 10:00pm. As his daughter Sumi opened the door, the criminals fired a gunshot at her. The criminals soon fled the house leaving a piece of paper containing a mobile phone number, family members said.

A week ago, some extortionists had demanded Tk 10 lakh but Jalal refused to pay it, they added.

Venezuela, China sign 16 bln dlr oil deal
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Wednesday announced a 16-billion-dollar deal with China to drill for oil in the resource-rich Orinoco basin.

"Yesterday (Tuesday), a deal was signed in Beijing for the Orinoco basin. It sets out a Chinese investment of 16 billion dollars over the next three years," Chavez said at a public event. He gave few details of the pact and did not name the Chinese companies nvolved, but said they would form a joint venture with state-owned Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) to produce 450,000 barrels a day of extra heavy crude.

Venezuela, a founding member of the oil cartel OPEC and Latin America's top oil exporter, announced Saturday that it had signed a similar accord with a Russian consortium. The deal will see the group of five Russian companies invest more than 20 billion dollars over three years, and gives them rights to drill for oil in the Junin-6 block of the Orinoco oil belt.

That joint venture is also expected to produce 450,000 barrels a day by 2012, Chavez said.

Obama: legalize illegals to get them health care
President Obama said this week that his health care plan won't cover illegal immigrants, but argued that's all the more reason to legalize them and ensure they eventually do get coverage.

He also staked out a position that anyone in the country legally should be covered - a major break with the 1996 welfare reform bill, which limited most federal public assistance programs only to citizens and longtime immigrants.

"Even though I do not believe we can extend coverage to those who are here illegally, I also don't simply believe we can simply ignore the fact that our immigration system is broken," Mr. Obama said Wednesday evening in a speech to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. "That's why I strongly support making sure folks who are here legally have access to affordable, quality health insurance under this plan, just like everybody else.

Mr. Obama added, "If anything, this debate underscores the necessity of passing comprehensive immigration reform and resolving the issue of 12 million undocumented people living and working in this country once and for all."

Republicans said that amounts to an amnesty, calling it a backdoor effort to make sure current illegal immigrants get health care.

"It is ironic that the president told the American people that illegal immigrants should not be covered by the health care bill, but now just days later he's talking about letting them in the back door," said Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee.

"If the American people do not want to provide government health care for illegal immigrants, why would they support giving them citizenship, the highest honor America can bestow?" Mr. Smith said.

But immigrant rights groups see the speech as a signal that Mr. Obama is committed to providing health care coverage for anyone in the United States legally, regardless of their citizenship status.

Iraq
Russia seeks to muscle in on Iraq oil
The Russian energy minister's visit to Iraq earlier this month, as Baghdad prepares to auction off oil contracts to foreign companies in December, underscores how Western oil majors may be cut out of potentially lucrative production deals.

This stems in part from Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's differences with the surge of violence that has accompanied the U.S. military withdrawal from Iraq.

This has raised anti-U.S. sentiment in many quarters at a time when Big Oil is battling to secure access to some of Iraq's biggest oil fields and the vast untapped reserves that could surpass even Saudi Arabia's riches.

Meantime, energy-hungry China and Japan have also been making moves in Baghdad to grab a piece of the action, adding to the discomfort of the big U.S. and European oil giants. They want to open up an oil industry that they once controlled until it was nationalized by the Baathist regime in 1973.

Russia is keen to reassert the influence Moscow had in Baghdad during Saddam Hussein's rule, which ended with the U.S.-led invasion of March 2003. Under Saddam, the Russians were all set to get access to Iraq's oil. But his fall from power left those highly favorable deals dangling.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Shock in Norway as Media Gives Standing Ovations to Hamas Propagandizing Doctors
These two doctors are largely responsible for the dissemination of the worst propaganda during Operation Cast Lead in Gaza. Look at how the anti-Israel Norwegian media loves them. How telling is that?
More here on Mads Gilbert and the Finnish press!

Quote: [DagenMagazinets clear impression is that virtually everyone who was present at the press conference, including the huge press corps, applauded the Gaza doctors repeatedly.]

Large press-applause for Gaza doctors

DagenMagazinets: An almost total press corps applauded when doctors Mads Gilbert and Erik Fosse launched the book "Eyes in Gaza". - Most unusual, "says Press Association Per Edgar Kokkvold.

JOHN Solsvik

Applause from an enthusiastic press corps broke out again and again when the two Gaza doctors told me about their horrible experiences that doctors at Shifa hospital during the war in January this year.

Only DagenMagazinets journalist asked a critical question about the two doctors' credibility. Fully aware of the ties the two have to Red party in Norway and the party's strong anti-Israeli involvement, we asked questions about doctors' ability to objectivity and credibility.

Mads Gilbert, thanks for the question and said it was totally appropriate to ask such.

- Not activists

- I am very pleased that just Magazinet are present here today. We went to Gaza as doctors and not as journalists, and we do not intend to engage in any kind of propaganda, but convey the strengths of our experiences further. We do not need to lie or reinforce perceptions. We are not party political activists, but we were in Gaza, with solid support from the Norwegian Foreign Ministry, which granted five million Euros for the work, and from Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg in person. He called us and said we had all the Norwegian people in the back, "said Gilbert.

In addition, he stated that they had used three "heavy" Middle East experts as consultants for the book, one is Kåre Willoch.

- But when no journalists were allowed to enter and report from the war, and it was Israel which effectively put a stop to this, so we had to stand up and tell the world what happened. We missed the Norwegian journalists and we wanted Magazinet in Gaza, said Gilbert.

Erik Fosse and Mads Gilbert gave a stirring picture of what they experienced in Gaza, and accused Israel of crimes against humanity, which they claimed the fresh Goldstone Commission had confirmed.

Gilbert had little time for the Norwegian election campaign that he had followed in part from Gaza.

- Not a single foreign policy issue has dominated the election campaign. The biggest problem in the Norwegian election campaign has been the fear of drowning in a smørøye of Norwegian self-satisfaction, "said Mads Gilbert.

- Most unusual

Secretary General Per Edgar Kokkvold in the Norwegian Press Association thinks it is highly unusual that it will be praised at a news conference.

- Journalists usually ask critical questions to their interviewees, and we are often accused of only being concerned with the negative - and even the public says it. Applauding journalists at a press conference is rare, there you are right, "said Kokkvold.

He added that he was not present, but that he believes appaluse probably came from representatives of organizations working actively for Palestinian cause.

DagenMagazinets clear impression is that virtually everyone who was present at the press conference, including the huge press corps, applauded the Gaza doctors repeatedly.
H/T: Norway, Israel and the Jews

UPDATE: Kåre Willoch, one of the "expert" scholars noted by Mads Gilbert as contributing to his book, "Eyes of Gaza", is a noted severe critic of Israel.

NOTE: About Dr. Mads Gilbert: It turns out he's no neutral medical man, but active in "solidarity work with Palestinians" for 30 years. Responding to 9/11, Gilbert didn't rush to New York's Bellevue Hospital to offer his services. Instead, he defended the moral right of the "oppressed" to have launched that attack.

Govt fatwa bans kissing to stop swine flu
Jordanian authorities issued a religious edict on Thursday urging Muslims to avoid kissing each other, as the number of reported cases of swine flu in the kingdom reached 274. "People should not kiss at social events and gatherings. Instead, they should just shake hands," the government's fatwa department said in a statement. "If kissing spreads diseases, then it is forbidden."
"And no tongues! Never!"
The edict comes a few days ahead of the Eid al-Fitr festivities marking the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, when Muslims traditionally pay each other visits and hug and kiss.

In the conservative Arab world, rejecting a kiss on the cheek can be seen as offensive.

But the fatwa department insisted that Eid "should mark the beginning of the end" of cheek kissing.

Replace with handshaking
"We advise people to replace kissing with handshaking, particularly during Eid -- which is the case in many civilized Muslim countries," it said.

#3  I know this is an incendiary issue, but it makes sense to me that a little thermite could have been hidden by maintenance and cleaning crews as easily as they were photographed and scouted out beforehand. AQ had some engineering experience and 8 years to plan around their previous failure. I DO NOT believe the evil Bush/Cheney team brought them down to give us an excuse to go to war. Building 7 has always perplexed me as it was a distance away and they had more time to extinguish the fire. Totally dismissing their claims without technical proof only adds fuel to the fire, playing the '60's liberal Alinsky game of civil chaos.
Posted by: Lumpy Elmoluck5091 || 09/18/2009 11:01 Comments || Top||

#4  Good night Lumpy, whadda line of bullshit. And for a number of reasons.

First - First the bong circle conspiracy theory of demo charges. These are 2 very large buildings. And unless a bad guy knew exactly where the planes would hit, each tower, they would have to plant charges in at least the upper half of both buildings at every structural strongpoint. Second, why wait an hour to set them off. It would be stronger propaganda to blow the charges quite soon after the impact(s) to show the weakness of the financial system.

A 1 acre grassfire gets hot enough to cause its own localized weather pattern. Interior fires get much, much hotter. In fact, the hottest parts of those fires would not be on the floor of the impact but the next story or two. That is trapped heat, which builds pressure and allows for hotter fire. Time to extinguish the fire are you farking nuts? come out here sometime, I'll take you into a dragon's mouth.

Do me a favor. Unwrap a paperclip, find a lighter, and hold that wire in one hand and see how long you can clasp it while the lighter warms the other end. And that is not totally dismissing, its called addressing and pissing on it.
Posted by: swksvolFF || 09/18/2009 11:21 Comments || Top||

#5  Even if jet fuel can't melt steel, the rest of the building was in flames, and that would be enough to create all kinds of problems. Fire-resistant safes are rated to protect its contents for an hour or so at something like 1700 degrees or more, which suggests that fire can get about that hot, especially if it starts creating convection currents and draws in a lot of new air like a bellows is designed to do. If steel melts at around 2500 degrees, I wouldn't be too surprised if it were weakened considerably at 1700 degrees.

Heck, even blacksmiths take steel out of the furnace long before it reaches that temperature and bend it or pound it into shape with a fraction of the effort required to accomplish the same task at room temperature.

When some of the supposts buckle, the remaining weakened posts are suddenly tasked with supporting something that is way out of their league, so they will collapse a tiny fraction of a second later, and the enormous mass above all these remaining supposts doesn't have enough of a push to get it rotating much before it heads straight down to the floor below. By the way, all the remaining supports were not just on one side of the building, they were probably fairly evenly distributed. And even if conditions were such that it was rotating slightly, it will be corrected somewhat by the more uniform resistance below, even though the structure that is resisting the collapse is doomed to collapse itself a few milliseconds later due to the enormous forces of the impact load.

The guys doing explosive demolition like to make their work look harder than it is otherwise it wouldn't make good TV. There is a reason they don't have a lot of bad accidents here. All they have to do is blow most of the posts and the rest will take care of itself.

Seems to me that one of these days there will be a large building that needs to come down. Just take out a few supports and distribute a bunch of jet fuel across an area of the building like it had been put there by an impact with a jetliner, set the area on fire and see how things go.

#8  So in the face of the ACORN exposes, the withdrawl of Van Jones, the mess in Afghanistan, the fragile state of the economy and this administation's obsequiousness to corrupt tyranical states, the left offers ....

empty charges of racism and yet ANOTHER take on a conspiracy for 9/11.

Man, y'all this stuff is getting stale.

#9  Fire can't melt steel, that's why the free-range steel beam farms have to have so many crops (for the different sizes and shapes). Last year was a bumper crop of W14x132's

#10  Unwrap a paperclip, find a lighter, and hold that wire in one hand and see how long you can clasp it while the lighter warms the other end.

Ouch!

#11  Thanks for the link, Thing. I had never seen that video of the collapse before. It was amazing.

#12  Steel or collards? Steel or collards? Perhaps both, since steel is a tuber we can mix them.

#13  Lumpy's already got a paperclip and a lighter, he just needs to get that toke off before the clip gets too hot.

Lump, the firemen were pulled out of WTC7 due to extreme danger, and the fire inside burned unchecked for hours. There was a large quantity of diesel fuel for generators stored several stories up. If you view the collapse video, you can see the hvac systems on the roof dropping into the core before the curtain walls start to give. I read the detailed reports at the time, they are entirely credible.

#14  The big question on my mind is this - will the new WTC towers be 747-proof? Will we ever get to find out for sure?
