MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Two men have been charged with making threats against presidential candidate Barack Obama.
Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tennessee and Paul Schlesselman, 18, of West Helena were charged in a federal complaint last Friday of illegal possession of a sawed-off shotgun, conspiracy to rob a federal firearms licensee, and making threats against a major candidate for the Office of President.
According to the complaint, Cowart and Schlesselman met via the Internet through a mutual friend last month, with both men claiming to have very strong beliefs regarding "White Power" and "Skinhead" philosophies.
The complaint said the pair discussed robbing a gun shop in order to gather weapons and ammunition to use in a 'killing spree.'
On October 20, 2008, Cowart allegedly traveled from Tennessee to Arkansas to pick up Schlesselman in order to carry out their plan.
According to the complaint, the defendants further discussed their killing spree to include targeting a predominately African American school, and to continue their spree until their final act of violence, which would be to attempt to assassinate Obama.
Officials said Cowart and Schlesselman stated that they would be willing to die during their attempt.
The pair was arrested on October 22, 2008 by the Crockett County, Tennessee Sheriff's Department.
Cowart and Schlesselman appeared in court Monday, and are scheduled to appear again at a detention hearing on October 30th.
Note: This is NOT the same mess of inbreds who were arrested in Denver in August.
The right-wing bloggosphere is alive right now with rumors that this is just a repeat of the August story, recycled by the usual suspects to help Obama. This foolishness originates from Free Republic, where some fool posted pics of the August perps, with no link or explanation, and others quickly assumed they were the same as today's perps. This was helped along by the notorious inability of Freepers to post links. Again, THIS IS NOT THE SAME ALLEGED PLOT OR THE SAME PERPS.

...Thank GOD these idiots were caught, I shudder to think what this country would have been like had Obama been killed.

That is the last thing we need is to make this communist a martyr. He needs to be defeated because his ideas are so repulsive to the average American that he is rejected by who he is, not by what his melanin count is.

Angry and high(?) and sawed off shotguns are a bad mix; These morons definably need a 10-year+ stay in Federal Prison. I do wonder how these masterminds actually planned to get to a Presidential Candidate after killing all those kids in the school though.

General prison population - should take care of this problem pretty quick.

Got locked out of Rantburg for a while today. This is incredibly frustrating.
LGF has been screwed up all day, as it is for part of EVERY day. The little spinning arrow starts up when I try to refresh or post, and when it stops nobody knows. I have to close the browser window when it does this, btw.
The site takes forever to load, vital features sometimes fail to load at all, and it has disappeared entirely for the last half-hour or so.
I love LGF but I am going to stop going there until I have some assurance the site is fixed. Enough is enough.

Jim Cavanaugh, special agent in charge of ATF's Nashville field office, said the two men planned to kill 88 people, including 14 African-Americans by beheading. The numbers 88 and 14 are symbolic in the white supremacist community.
Probably because that's as high as they can count...
#8
I'll agree with you, tu - if you mean they can't count past 14.
"88" must mean 8, and 8 again. ;-p

And 14 would be right too: 10 fingers, 2 ears, 1 nose, and 1 doinker (that they put their hands on every two minutes, undoubtedly to make sure it's still there).
Their feet must stink too much for them to take off their boots....

These idiots are unbelievable. All it takes is one of these fools to get to him and this place will go up in flames. As much as I despise the guy, killing him will not help in any way, shape, or form.

I agree that this is a thing that is completely off the charts re: reason and i am also glad these nutcases were caught, but where is the similiar outrage about the Palin effigy hanging out there in California; can't that also be considered a hate crime? what would the MSM be doing if it were Obama? not sitting on their hands that's for sure.
#12
Actually, to my mind the mere fact that ATF arrested these guys says to me that the Obama factor in this is just window dressing. If it was a serious plot, the Secret Service of the FBI would be more likely to be lead agency on it.

Ugh, products of our wonderful education system. A good thing they were caught now before an innocents were hurt. I'm sure that somehow the liberal illuminati will blame McCain for this.

Reminds me of a liner a couple friends of mine would send out to Missouri fans heading to a KU football game..
"How many Missourians did it take to free the slaves?"
"I don't know, they didn't try."
KUWAIT CITY (AP) - Kuwait moved Sunday to prop up the country's second-largest commercial bank and scrambled to protect depositors at other domestic banks, dashing hopes the oil-rich Arab Gulf would emerge largely unscathed from the global financial crisis. The central bank halted trading in Gulf Bank shares because of high derivatives losses, just a day after Gulf finance ministers said the region's banks were insulated against the liquidity crisis that has rippled through the global banking industry.
"The halting of Gulf Bank shares spread panic in the bourse today because the government has been saying banks are safe from (global financial crisis) losses," investor Ahmed al-Fadhli said a telephone interview.
The Saudi stock exchange - the region's largest - fell by 8.7 percent Saturday and is down more than 50 percent since January. Saudi's benchmark Tadawul index closed down about 1.6 percent Sunday, while the Dubai Financial Market sank 4.7 percent, and Qatar's exchange closed down almost 9 percent. Kuwait's exchange was down 3.5 percent at closing. The losses tracked most other major world market indices, which saw declines Friday.
Neither the government nor Gulf Bank revealed the size of the losses or their timeframe. But Ibrahim Dabdoub, the chief executive of the National Bank of Kuwait, told Al Arabiya television the losses were up to $742 million. Because most of the region's banking sector is privately held, little is known about the institutions' true risk exposure.
The Gulf Bank news also appeared to have pushed the Kuwaiti government to take a step it has so far resisted - guaranteeing deposits. The country currently makes no deposit guarantees. The central bank said it would propose an urgent bill to guarantee deposits at local Kuwaiti banks in an effort to "boost confidence in our banking sector."

Islamic banks are unaffected by the sub prime mortgage crisis we were told by the arabs, US government to study the salient features of Islamic banking to ascertain how far it could be useful in fighting the ongoing world economic crisis.Islamic banks as a safe haven because these are immune against such crisis due to inherent business ethics within Islamic banking. Looks like another fable of islam to me.

We all know that Muslims, especially Arab Muslims, can be trusted to behave in a calmly rational manner---never forgetting that their personal good is inexorably connected to the long term good of their neighbors and the Islamic Uma in general.

The ancient Israelites were also forbidden to charge interest on their own people but could do so on foreigners. Citizenship was a prized privelege with benefits that excluded those outside their framework opf law. The people were allowed to keep most of the fruits of their labors, except for the 10% tithe of crops and all goods, given to support the widow, orphans, poor, and the system of judges over them. Restitution on crimes such as theft was also double or even 10 times the loss incurred, repaying the victim. Maybe its time Americans take back America from greedy globalists and rebuild from the bottom up? Patriotism is NOT paying more taxes and should be rewarded by not allowing others to sap our strength.
JEDDAH - Nearly 50 renowned nuclear scientists and experts from across the world, including the United States, Russia, China, Canada, France, Germany and Japan, are to take part in Saudi Arabia's first international symposium on the peaceful use of nuclear technology in the Gulf countries, which will be held at King Abdul Aziz University (KAAU) here from November 3 to 5.
Oh goody, let's give the Magic Kingdom nukes, what could possibly go wrong ...
Moreover, a number of ministers from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are expected to participate in the symposium.
Mohammed Subian Al-Johani, head of the event's organising committee and dean of KAAU's department of nuclear engineering, said all preparations have been made for the event. He said that 50 studies and working papers, which are to be discussed during the sessions, have been received and translated. "This in itself is a wealth of knowledge," he added.
He explained that the scientific committee has carefully revised and approved the papers that will be presented by the participants who also include members of many nuclear agencies.
According to Al Johani, the tentative programme of the opening ceremony includes a speech by Mohamed El Baradei, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), to be read out on his behalf by Peter Saleema, a senior IAEA official.
He said that the programme also includes speeches by Minister of Higher Education Khaled Al Anqari, KAAU President Osama Tayeb, Dean of the university's Faculty of Engineering Faisal Iskanderani, and representative of the European Union Luis Martin-Oar. Al Johani said participants would listen to the experiences of countries such as Egypt, the Czech Republic, Chile and others in the domain of nuclear technology.

Must be an election in the offing. Labour only tries to even tangentially approach reality when it's time to go to the polls. The rest of the time they're wandered off in LLL, white-hating, guilt-ridden dementia.
Worthless bastards, the lot of them. Clement Attlee wouldn't spit on this shower.

Let's bring back that go old Scandinavian custom of outlawry. Being declared an outlaw didn't mean you were labeled as "operating outside the law" as it means today, it meant you were outside the protection of the law. In other words "Bring me my AR-15, Inga, honey."
Just another step down the road. The puppets will soon demand that the EU force be removed. The EU will comply of course -- they're the EU, after all. Georgia then will get hammered again by the Rooskies just after Bambi is inaugurated. That'll be crisis #1 in Biden's reckoning ...
MOSCOW: The breakaway region of Abkhazia accused European Union monitors of ignoring "armed provocations" by Georgia along its boundaries and said Sunday that its retaliation would be emphatic.
The accusation was made one day after a Georgian district governor and a villager were killed by what the Georgian police said were mortars fired from the Abkhaz side in the boundary zone.
On Sunday, Abkhazia accused Georgia of firing at a border checkpoint, saying one of its border guards had been wounded. The new shooting appears to have increased tension around Abkhazia's de facto border since Russian forces pulled back to within the rebel region this month, following a five-day war with Georgia in August.
"The heightened activity of Georgian subversive groups in Abkhazia, these frequent shootings and killings, are a consequence of the absence of Russian peacekeepers in the conflict zone and the inaction of EU monitors," Russia's RIA news agency quoted an unidentified senior Abkhaz security official as saying.
The Abkhaz leader, Sergei Bagapsh, held an emergency meeting of the separatist security council. "Georgia is launching a large-scale terrorist action on the territory of the Republic of Abkhazia," Bagapsh told the meeting, as televised on Russia's Vesti-24 state channel. "I repeat: Shooting at any post from Georgian territory will be punished by retaliatory fire from all weapons we have at our disposal," he said. "If there is a need to bring in armor - let's say, more or less combat-ready tanks - do it."
And they just happen to have a bunch of T-72s, freshly repainted. Even the tank crews have been repainted ...
Video taken after the explosion at the border checkpoint shows several people lying wounded on the ground and villagers screaming and fleeing down a dirt road.
EU observers, in the area to investigate overnight shelling, were just 100 meters away when the blast hit, said a spokesman for the mission. Despite their proximity to the blast, the monitors were unable to determine its origin, the spokesman said.
Tbilisi said the situation in western Georgia was calm. "But Abkhaz separatists, supported by Russian troops, are trying to whip up tension," said the Georgian Interior Ministry spokesman, Shota Utiashvili. "Such statements are intended to destabilize the situation and again introduce extra troops in the parts of Georgia from where they had been pulled back," he continued, referring to Russian troops.
"There has not been a single case of shooting from our side."
A 225-soldier EU mission is monitoring the cease-fire in both de facto border zones.

A yes, I remember EU monitors of the Israeli-Paleo agreements.
Premier Wen Jiabao announced Saturday that China will take steps to improve its food safety, saying that tainted milk products believed to have killed four babies and sickened thousands of children represented a failure of regulation. Anything better than actively getting worse is an improvement, isn't it?

If they just improve the accuracy of the package labeling would be a plus:
Example:
"Lead, may contain milk components."
Good to know there's someone who doesn't qualify ...
British insurance companies will not be bailed out by the United States,The Times has learnt. It is understood that, although Henry Paulson, the US Treasury Secretary, was prepared to listen to appeals for cash from British and American insurers, he is adamant that US bailout funds will go only to federally regulated financial institutions that lend money.
This excludes insurers such as Prudential, Friends Provident, Standard Life and Aviva, which have all suffered steep falls in their share prices this month despite giving reassurances about their capital strength.
British insurers have been under scrutiny by the Financial Services Authority, which believes they are paying too little consideration to an increased risk of corporate bond defaults. Traders are fearful of insurers exposure to companies failing to meet obligations.
Although Aviva and Prudential have formally denied any need to carry out a rights issue or raise fresh capital from existing shareholders, news that British insurers have sought US federal assistance is expected to undermine confidence in the insurance sector further.
The US Treasury is understood to have told UK and American insurers that there will be no plans to expand its capital purchase programme, under which international banks can apply to sell troubled assets and an equity stake to Washington.
Although Mr Paulson nationalised AIG, the worlds biggest insurer, last month at a cost of $84 billion (£53 billion) to the US taxpayer, he is understood to be at pains to emphasise that this bailout was an exception and that it did not open the door for other insurers to beg for rescue funds.

I wouldn't get to comfortable yet. In about 1 week the possiblity might be that Obama and his illuminati crew will be bailing out the rest of the world. Of course only the top 5% tax payers will be paying for the bill.

There are no "Obama 2008" buttons, banners or T-shirts visible here at U.N. headquarters, but it might be difficult to find a sliver of territory in the United States more enthusiastic over the prospect of the Illinois senator winning the White House. Birds of a feather, etc. Wonder if Kojo's going to find a place in the new administration?

Barack Obama's Global Poverty Act would "re-distribute" 845 billion of our dollars (0.7% of our annual wealth) to the United Nations. The bill, which has the support of many liberal religious groups, makes levels of U.S. foreign aid spending subservient to the dictates of the United Nations. No wonder they want him to be President. This would create a pipeline for graft and corruption directly from Washington to New York with no stops in between.
Leaders from Asia and Europe on Saturday called for new rules for and stronger regulation of the global monetary and financial system at the close of a two-day summit in Beijing as China assumed a leadership role in the crisis. Shooting, hanging, or really significant jug time for the Malefactors of Great Wealth would do wonders.

Any day now somebody will remember that money represents available goods & services.
For the first time, astronomers think that they've found evidence of an alien solar system around a star close enough to Earth to be visible to the naked eye. They say that at least one and probably three or more planets are orbiting the star Epsilon Eridani, 10.5 light-years about 63 trillion miles from Earth. Only eight stars are closer. ...

As shock waves from the credit crisis began to spread around the world last month, China scrambled to protect itself. Among the most extreme measures it took was to impose new export taxes to keep critical supplies such as grains and fertilizer from leaving the country. The reason food is being exported is because Chinese farmers have had price controls slapped on them. Many are barely making money. At the same time, China won't allow foreign food to be imported without 100% tariffs. There is no food crisis - the Chinese government is only having problems enforcing its edicts.
#4
The contrast between the rapid-fire reaction by Western authorities to the financial crisis and their comparatively modest response to soaring food prices earlier this year has triggered anger among aid and farming groups.
"The amount of money used for the bailouts in the U.S. and Europe -- people here are saying that money is enough to feed the poor in Africa for the next three years," said Muchiri, head of the Eastern Africa Farmers Federation.
Is it my imagination, or is this guy feeling just a little too entitled?
#5
To reply to Zhang Fei: Not Just That, but if they actually developed Africa's production capability, it would have more food available and more employment.
----------------------------------------
INTERESTING bit:
China scrambled to protect itself. Among the most extreme measures it took was to impose new export taxes to keep critical supplies such as grains and fertilizer from leaving the country.
OK, fertilizer in most of the world are nitrogen compounds directly derived from natural gas and should track the price of natural gas very closely.
The only way Chinese fertilizer is going to be cheaper than everyone else's is if the producers are paying less for natural gas than everyone else.
I've been saying for a while that part of the way China keeps its whole deal going is partly by sweetheart deals giving it cheaper access to raw materials, and partly by subsidizing the raw materials costs of its manufacturers. (These can be done by 'loans' that never get paid back, for example).
#7
Yes, China deeply subsidizes the cost of raw materials for its key industries. And yes, that deeply distorts their price structure and the value of their currency.
#8
"'that money is enough to feed the poor in Africa for the next three years,' said Muchiri, head of the Eastern Africa Farmers Federation"
That ain't our goddam job, asshole. Feed your own damn selves.
Which you could if you weren't too busy playing communist, stealing land from those who know how to farm it and giving it to those who don't.
Hope you're the second to starve, Muchiri - right behind Mugabe. In a just world, you'd both have been dispatched to Hell years ago. Along with the others of your ilk.

A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
