A stalker hid under a woman's bed for two days -- just for the chance to be alone with her. The disturbing video shows the convicted stalker carefully hiding his video camera on a desk in the victim's bedroom. When he hears the woman and her boyfriend come in the apartment, he disappears under her bed. Carlo Castellanos-Feria remained there for two days until he was discovered by the victim's boyfriend.
The nightmare started at Holy Cross Hospital where the victim met her stalker who was working as a parking valet. In court, the victim told the judge that the discovery of the valet in her bedroom was in her words -- a horrible experience. "Her life is dramatically changed. She is fearful when she hears strange noises she doesn't know where they are coming from. Her husband, who was her boyfriend at the time of the incident, now has to be careful not to approach her from behind because it just startles her," said Keri Barta, prosecutor.
Moments before he was sentenced, Castellanos-Feria apologized: "I fell madly in love and that blinded my judgment. I beg your forgiveness."
Court documents show the Hyattsville man had a change of clothes, condoms, a power cord and latex gloves with him under victims bed at the time of his arrest. He was a parking valet with an unnerving obsession. "He got access to her keys. He then took that opportunity to get those keys copied. That's something we should all think about next time we leave our keys somewhere," said Ken wainstein, U.S. attorney. When investigators searched Carlo Castellanos-Feria's home, they found vacation photos of his victim and a wedding video. Investigators later determined the items were stolen from her ex-husband's home.

Oh, great. This is the sort of thing I have nightmares about. I keep the space under the bed stuffed with junk, just as a precaution. Under the couch, too. Same thing for the closets: fully loaded.
The medicine cabinet's not full, but I feel fairly confident of being able to handle any stalker small enough to hide in there.

Condoms to rape her and "not leave dna", a cord to strangle her and gloves to "not leave prints". This nut is more than a "stalker" and she's lucky to be alive.
Just kidding. Guns don't piddle all over the landscape like dogs do, either. I'll be sure to get the rods, guns, motion sensors, and laser beams just as soon as I become a millionaire.
..especially if you insist on parading around exposing those nakid ear lobes!
You know, if I had pierced ears I could cover my lobes with a protective layer of diamonds.

Yes, sentencing is not given here (am I missing something?), but this really raises alarm here, I hope he was not judged as a "simple" stalker, but as a sex predator.

Let this be a lesson to all of you about keychains. I have a snap-release system that allows me to separate only my car's door and ignition key from all of the rest. If my mechanic or a valet needs to drive my car, they get those two keys and nothing else. Even the trunk key is separated.
The snap costs a buck and change, the security it brings is priceless.
BREMERTON, Wash. - A sheriff's deputy who was trying to get a man down from a tree shot and wounded him after mistakenly pulling a gun instead of a Taser, authorities say.
The deputy, a five-year veteran of the force whose name was not released, was placed on leave while Thursday's shooting is investigated.
Deputies carry both a Taser and a gun on their utility belts. The Taser, or stun gun, is similar in shape to the compact .40-caliber gun the deputy carried, sheriff's spokesman Scott Wilson said.
The victim was listed in satisfactory condition.
The man had been climbed a fig tree and stayed there for hours, talking to himself. Deputies were unsure whether he was intoxicated or psychotic, and they wanted to get him down before he hurt himself or others, Wilson said.
Deputies and rescue workers tried to coax him down for almost two hours, during which he became increasingly hostile, said David Blakeslee, an employee at an auto repair shop nearby.
Blakeslee said the man climbed down on his own after getting shot.

He didn't need a gun or a taser. Just fire up the ol' chain saw and head for the tree. That nutjob would have come down, one way or the other, and you can bet he wouldn't have wanted to mess with that saw when he got there.

Saw this on our local news last night--it seems the deputy was pretty distraught once the gun went off and she realized she had grabbed the wrong weapon. The story claimed the officers wear the Taser and their sidearm close together on the same side (makes sense--not too many ambidextrous officers I know). A side-by-side visual of the Taser and department's issued sidearm showed they look pretty similar in size and feel.
Purely an accident, but unfortunately it will probably cost the deputy more than the tree-climbing idiot who was the root cause.

Hey, it was an honest mistake. I used the Brylcreem instead of toothpaste one time. I didn't launch a product liability suit.
XIKU the chain-smoking chimpanzee has almost kicked his deadly habit thanks to the efforts of zoo keepers in China, but it has taken a beer or two to help get him through detox.
Xiku became addicted to smoking while mimicking the habits of humans during a career as a circus performer, the state-run Xinhua news agency said.
By the time he was sent to a zoo in Urumqi, the capital of China's northwest Xinjiang region, in 2002, Xiku was already smoking 10 cigarettes a day.
That number doubled as visitors threw him cigarettes for amusement, but he is now down to smoking four a day after some unorthodox efforts from zoo keepers, Xinhua said.
"At the beginning, he became irascible when he wanted to smoke, jolting windows and doors," Xinhua quoted one of the keepers as saying.
"We sometimes gave him some sunflower seeds or a bottle of beer to help him shake off the addiction and visitors are no longer allowed to throw him cigarettes.'"

A couple of points. John Howard has just refused to subsidize taking vines out of production in Oz where there is a similar over production problem.
The real reason behind Europe's anti-GM stance is it will make Europe's agricultural over-production much worse and likely bankrupt the CAP.

Phil, where is Spain in the list? I remember wine being delivered to tapa bars in tanker trucks and the Navy guys I was with doing their best to raise the per capita numbers.

...Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia (and other former Yugo states), Hungary, Czech Republic are too missing, in that order, because as we move north, beer consumption becomes more prominent.

For wine lovers, the EU response is horrible news. They're pushing the commodified crap model (which, mind you, beats the un-commodified crap many make now) of the New World instead of the artisinal wine-crafting that a free market would encourage.

I'll have to start drinking some more wine! Perhaps some world-class Napa / Sonoma and a few select Australian Chardonays. Accompanied with some nice soft brie - from Wisconsin.

I will stick with good California and Aussie wines.
But me heart is forever in the tankard with a good ale. When I was down in Homer this week I picked up a growler each of Red knot Scottish Ale and China Point Porter from the Homer Brewing Company. Ima happy mon, mon. Let 'em drown in a Euro lake debating their Mega-minutae issues. I like the simple life of high quality living.

I was talking about wine with a Master Sommelier just the other day. We should all be very glad that America's wine industry is not so fettered with archaic production and distribution laws. As a result, we produce some of the world's best wines, bar none. If you must go overseas, I recommend Australia. They have done all of their homework in advance and are now producing some exceptional wines at excellent prices.
Be sure that France still makes some magnificent vintages, but not sending them any of my money just feels so right at the present moment.
Finally, I urge all of you wine drinkers to please, please by a case of wine you that enjoy and lay some of it down for a few extra years. Get advice from your local wine authority as to which vintages will age well, identify one that you enjoy and then cellar it for a few extra years. The improvement is nothing short of profound.
A revolting statistic is that 90% of all wine is consumed within 48 hours of purchase. This fact has forced vintners to bottle wine for immediate consumption. Such constraints prohibit them from making wines that will age particularly gracefully.
I took a simple $6.00 Loius Martini red and aged for another three years and the results were spectacular. Now imagine what happened when I aged a Silver Oak (excellent label) Zinfandel for 20 years. It was like drinking fruit flavored rain water, softer than a baby's @ss and an aftertaste like the dust from a grape. I'm still holding back with a Charles Krug 1972 Cabernet. That one is either over the hill or a complete and total monster. I may open it this year.
Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan dropped out of the race for governor [of Maryland] today, saying he has been diagnosed with clinical depression. "It's time for me to focus on my health," Duncan said at an afternoon news conference at the Executive Office Building in Rockville.
Drat. I was looking forward to focusing on a nice bruising Donk primary battle between Duncan and Baltimore mayor Martin O'Malley. The fireworks would have been spectacular.
Duncan announced his decision with his wife, Barbara; son, John; and running mate, Stu Simms,
Never heard of him
at his side. Upon entering the conference room, he received a standing ovation from the county employees and teary-eyed campaign workers in the audience.
Prolly a few misty GOP operatives as well.
Duncan, who has been Montgomery's county executive for 12 years, faced stiff competition for the Democratic nomination from Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley. Duncan's was the underdog campaign: He had raised less money than his opponents and trailed them in the polls. But that had only driven Duncan to more aggressively pursue his main opponent, often attacking O'Malley's record on crime and education. His withdrawal means that O'Malley and the Democratic party can now focus their energy and money on toppling Republican Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.
Ratz. My mom and I were speculating that he got a call from Donk HQ: "Get out, and get out now. O'Malley's our man; we won't forget you once he's in office." A banged-up and weakened O'Malley would be a less formidable opponent to Gov. Ehrlich, who has been largely ineffective as governor. Mind you, this is pure speculation. I don't particularly like Doug Duncan all that much, but my brother used to rent him videos back in the day. That's got to count for something, right?
Oh well. We'll just have to settle for the Kweisi Mfume/ Ben Cardin /Lt. Gov. Michael Steele cage match for Paul Sarbanes' Senate seat.

This strikes me as a not very intelligent way to get out of running. Despite all the explanations that depression is due simply to brain chemical imbalances, people don't like to vote for someone who is, or has been, "nuts". Mr. Duncan may have ruined his career, despite promises of a quid pro quo.
#3
Why be a such girly-man and "admit" to a personal weakness, if you don't have to? Michael Steele is such a "Man's man", that he probably doesn't care one way or the other about the "competition's" hang-ups. Too busy keeping his eye on the prize to get sentimental and stuff. He's cool. Later Doug!

Forced by a religious leader, a Muslim-dominated village in Bihar has asked a rape victim to leave the place after calling her 'napak' (impure) for giving birth to a child. The husband has also deserted Sabia, a mute woman in her 20s and mother of two, following pressures from the leaders, the woman's distraught father Samsher Ali said.
The woman, who was raped last year by a neighbour, Mustafa, now lives with her parents in their thatched hut in the same village, Chandkiwari, in Muzaffarpur district, about 70 km from here. Mustafa is on the run.
Sabia's parents are facing the ire of the villagers for giving shelter to their "impure" daughter. "No one talks to us; we have no social life. We are treated like animals for no fault of ours," Samsher Ali lamented.
Says Sabia's mother: "I fail to understand why my mute daughter was punished when she did not commit any crime. She was rather a victim of the heinous crime of rape. But these people do not realise it."
Maulana Abdul Haleem, a Muslim leader of the village, however said that as per Islamic law Sabia had become impure due to the rape and the "illegitimate" child. "We have instructed the villagers to boycott her," he said without mincing words.
The villagers are following his instruction. "We are bound by the decision to boycott her," said Pir Mohammad, a villager. He added: "This is not an individual decision. It was taken by the community."
Lalan Pandey, in-charge of the local police station, said Sabia or her parents had not filed a police complaint. "If they lodge a complaint, we will try to end the social boycott," he said. Sabia's desperate parents are planning to seek the help of an NGO.

Two illegal immigrants were busted in Colorado Springs with 20 pounds of methamphetamine stashed inside a Jeep, federal agents said Thursday.
The estimated $3.6 million worth of crystal ice a pure, smokable form of methamphetamine was smuggled across the Mexican border, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. The drugs were to be sold in Colorado Springs, the DEA said. The quantity involved made it the biggest speed bust in Colorado Springs in recent memory.
Its a significant bust, said Gray Hildreth, agent in charge of the DEAs Colorado Springs office.
Drugs often pass through the
city because Interstate 25 is a major route for Mexican drug traffickers, he said.
In Wednesdays bust, Manuel Hernandez-Martinez, 34, and Juan Manuel Quintero-Lopez, 20, were arrested on suspicion of drug possession and conspiracy to distribute drugs.
Also arrested was Gonzalo Lemos-Sepulveda, 23, the alleged recipient of the meth.
The suspects, all Mexican nationals, were being held Thursday night at the El Paso County jail.
The arrests were made by DEAs Colorado Springs task force, which includes city police, the Colorado State Patrol, the 4th Judicial District Attorneys Office and Pueblo police.
The task force Wednesday conducted surveillance on the Jeep Cherokee that traveled from Arizona, arriving in Colorado Springs about noon.
The two men in the Jeep met with the third suspect, Hildreth said.
Agents pulled the Jeep over about 1:30 p.m. on the citys southeast side.
The DEA wouldnt say what tipped agents off to the Jeep.
Lemos-Sepulveda was arrested later during a traffic stop near Fort Carson.
Packages of meth wrapped in duct tape were found hidden throughout the Jeep, Hildreth said.
This is another success story in a string of recent investigations targeting Mexican organizations trafficking large quantities of methamphetamine in the Colorado Springs area, Hildreth said.

Are we now to believe this meth will be destroyed? Or used as evidence, misplaced, and back on the streets again at a lower cost basis to the new distributers?
