News from the Other Side: Merkins run away from Spin Boldak
Source: Azzam
At least 400 U.S. troops have evacuated the border region of Spin Boldak and fled to their base in Kandahar on Friday and Saturday. These troops had been stationed in Spin Boldak and it is believed this move was because of increasing U.S. Military fears that another martyrdom operation would be carried out as was done to their base in Kandahar, which caused massive damage a few days back. It is believed that the U.S. troops had gathered in Spin Baldak, heavily equipped, apparently to launch a major operation against Al-Qaida Mujahideen in this area. A number of checkpoints and bunkers had been made over the past few weeks. However, the U.S. have now fled the region in fear of having a deadly martyrdom operation inflicted upon them.
"Oh, Lawsie! Help us! It's the al-Qaeda mujahideen!"
"Quick! Run away! Run away!"

Mullah Zaeef may not be as dead as they thought...
Abdul Salam Zaeef, former ambassador of Afghanistan in Islamabad and senior Taliban leader may be alive after all.
No! Y'don't say? But how could that be?
Earlier reports from the Balochistan Post said that he had been tortured to death during interrogation at the Camp X-Ray detention facility in Guantanamo, Cuba.
You can't get much more reliable than the Balochistan Post... I mean, he was dead, dammit! They were posing for pictures with his corpse in funny positions and everything...
According to sources a letter of Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef was delivered to his family in Pakistan through the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC). The letter written about a couple of weeks ago is said to show he is alive.
Never mind.
This report has not yet been confirmed.
Yeah. He could be dead, but lying about it...

Iran orders arrest of reformist journalist
The judiciary has ordered the arrest of reformist journalist Massoud Behnud, who traveled abroad after being sentenced to 19 months in jail for "actions against the security of the state", the governmental "Iran" newspaper reported Monday. Behnud, 52, left Iran legally in May after he was freed on bail, and is now in Canada. He will be arrested if he returns to Iran, the paper said, adding that the appeals court has upheld his prison term.
Perhaps it would be a good idea to remain in Calgary or Winnepeg or wherever he is...
He was jailed from August 2000 until February 2001 during a massive crackdown on the press and journalists.
Probably didn't like it that time, either...
Behnud, also a historian, had questioned sensitive issues of the Islamic republic, including the Islamic dress code that forces women to cover their hair and bodies in the presence of men. In December 2000, he appeared in court on charges of "action against the security of the state", "cooperation with foreign medias" and "insult to supreme leader" Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
We told him not to call the Ayatollah ugly, but he just wouldn't listen...
He was also accused of "consuming alcohol" and "keeping instruments for smoking opium", the conservative press reported then.
Between the opium and the gin, no one could understand him, anyway...

Ayatollahs recruiting Arab thugs...
Iranian opposition sources said the Islamic regime in Teheran has hired and equipped a range of Arab nationals to serve as riot police and break up student demonstrations around the country. The sources said the Arabs work for police and paramilitary special units and were identified as the most brutal elements in the crackdown against the growing reformist movement.
That should certainly make the Medes and Persians happy with their lot...
The Arabs are said to come from several areas and were hired amid dissatisfaction with the failure of Iranian officers to quell unrest. Some of the expatriates were identified as Shi'ites from Iraq. Others were said to have been Palestinians. Afghan nationals were also cited.
"Arab" Afghan nationals? Well, I guess they're not Iranians, so it's the same thing...
The sources said the Arabs were used in large numbers in anti-government protests at Teheran University in mid-July. They said the Arab security officers severely beat demonstrators and arrested hundreds of students.
Yeah. We heard about that...

#1  It's going on right this second, actually.

My own sources are breaking down, so the news out of the current demonstrations is getting fuzzy. I do now have multiple sources, though, confirming the SMCCDI report that many of the security forces battling with students in Tehran over the last few hours are communicating in Arabic.

My correspondents tend to refer to these foreign security forces as "Hezbollah". Who's surprised?

Iranian rioting...
These are the dispatches Mac was talking about, up until the time the mullahs pulled the plug. Items have minor editing and grammar corrections, and are presented in blog order. Servers are close to saturation, so be warned if you click through...
Regime restricts inbound-outbound calls
The Islamic regime has restricted most inbound-outband calls to-from Iran which is creating a lot of difficulties for a constant update and reports.
Violent crackdown in south Tehran
The Islamic regime forces have started a violent and bloody crackdown in the southern suburbs of Tehran... The regime's special and foreign units have made use of plastic bullets to overcome of the crowd... Many public materials have been destroyed and special Fire Trucks are used to clean streets and remains of tires put on fire to block the accesses of the regime's forces.
Regime forces open fire in Esfahan
The regime has made use of lethal weapons against groups of partisans who made several ambushes in the narrow streets of Esfahanm, throwing rocks and incendiary devices at their units and vehicles. Several partisans have been reported as wounded. Sources are reporting that these special forces were heard talking in Arabic These reports confirm the use of the Hezbollah mercenaries.
Tens of injured and hundreds of arrested in northern parts of Tehran
Tens of demonstrators have been injured and several of them seriously wounded by the Islamic regime's Special and Foreign brigades in the northern parts of the Capital. The regime forces attacked demonstrators by beating on whom ever was resisting their injunctions or caught shouting slogans or chanting the "Oh Iran! Oh Land of Jewels". In several areas masked demonstrators threw rocks and incendiary devises at the regime forces.
Clashes become more violent in Esfahan
Clashes are becoming more violent in Esfahan and numbers of masked youth are fighting with the regime's forces. Rocks and incendiary devises are thrown on regime's forces who have started to shoot plastic bullets.
Violent clashes rock the cities of Ghazvin and Gootchan
Violent clashes are rocking at this time, (21:00 IR local time), the cities of Ghazvin and Ghootchan, located 1500 KM apart. Thousands of local residents are clashing in the center of these cities with the regime's forces that had, on several occasion, to back off in order to come back with more forces. Numbers of people have been injured and an unconfirmed report is circulating about the lynching of a Lebanese Hezbollah member caught in Ghootchan with a walky talky and a gun.
Molotov Coktails and rocks used against the regime's forces in Kardaj
Violent clashes are rocking, at this time (20:40 IR local time) the Tehran suburb of Karadj, where hundreds of young are fighting with the regime. Molotov cocktails, rocks and paving stones are used against the regime's forces in Karadj. Several patrol cars have been destroyed so far but there's a huge number of injured.
Security forces attack demonstrators in "Baharestan"
Reports are stating brutal attacks of the regime's forces against demonstrators who have gathered in the historic "Baharestan" square of Tehran. Clubs are used to beat young and old, woman and man without any pity. Several young demonstrators who were caught while chanting the "Oh Iran! Oh Land of jewels!" and shouted slogans against the regime or tried to intervene to defend others were seen beaten and arrested. Clashes have spread to areas around "Baharestan" as the neighboring areas are full of demonstrators who echoed the banned National Anthem and have started to shout slogans.
Sporadic clashes rock Esfahan on "1906 Constitutional Revolution"'s commemoration
Sporadic clashes are rocking several areas of Tehran following altercations between the Islamic regime's Security forces and young Freedom lovers who are, often, resisting by ignoring the injunctions to leave the gathering areas of the "N. Tchahr Bagh" and "Tchizar". Several young men and even women, who came to defend them have been beaten so far and arrested. But more and more Freedom Lovers are finding their ways and getting to these areas.
Thousands of Tehranis reach the "Baharestan" square
Thousands of Tehranis have gathered, at less than half an hour of the deadline, in the historic square of "Baharestan" by ignoring the presence of hundreds of the regime's forces and the ban on the commemoration of the 1906 Constitutional Revolution.
This sounds much more like 1956 Budapest than something that'll turn into a successful revolution, but we can always hope and wish them the best...

IRNA's got zippo on this. Likewise Teheran Times. Mac's got much more on his site. Pulling the plug and not a word on the wires — not even to claim that small, insignificant, infinitesmal demonstrations were the work of foreign agents provocateurs, indicates that things are somewhat serious. If the Iranians are really lucky — which I hasten to suggest we shouldn't count on by a long shot — the ayatollahs and their spearholders are lining up to board those getaway planes Joe was talking about a month ago.

#1  The key difference being that in 1956, the Hungarian communist despots standing on the necks of the freedom fighters could count on support in the form of tanks from the soviet union, who had a real army and a burning desire to use it.

Just who can the iranian despots count on to back them up? Iraq? Saudi arabia? my guess is all of the 'cousins' are a bit busy right now with their own problems.

Anyone got a shortwave? This could get good!

#2  It's reporting today that Iran has unrestricted the calls again.
One thing I found interesting in the reports was that at least some of the security forces were talking in Arabic. That implies that the Iranian regime doesn't trust it's army and police?

#3  There's always the chance that significant numbers will go over to the students' side. But they probably also thought they need reinforcements.

Caucasus
Commander, 10 Chechens, doorknob dead in attack...
Representative of the Military Committee of State Defense Committee, Majlis al-Shura of Chechen Republic of Ichkeria (CRI) reported to a correspondent of Kavkaz Center that Chechen Mujahideen lost ten soldiers during the latest combat with the invaders' forces in Argun Gorge (Shatoi and Itum-Kali Districts of the country). Two others were captured by the enemy.
They usually report their own casualties low and the enemy's high, so it was probably worse than that. No word on how many were shot to shreds without being quite room temperatured yet, f'instance...
At the same time, over 50 invaders were killed, a large quantity of captured weapons was taken as booty, one helicopter was brought down, and several units of the enemy's military vehicles were burned.
Beat the hell out of 'em, huh?
A representative of Military Committee reported that Chechen Commander Amir Hussein Esabayev, who was in charge of the special operation of Chechen Mujahideen in this region, became Shaheed in the combat with the enemy.
That means he's toes-up and busy decomposing...
According to Kavkaz-Center sources, Hussein Esabayev, with the exclamation "Allah Akbar" (God is Great!), made the Mujahideen follow him, and knocked the enemy out of fortified positions during a fierce hand-to-hand combat with commandos of the aggressors and he sacrificed his own life in one of the critical moments of the battle for a dominating height.
Greased him and the guys who followed him, huh?
The Chechen side again flatly denied the allegations made by Russian invaders' command that units of the Mujahideen attacked forces of the aggressors from the territory of Georgia. The Chechen side stated that first stage of the special operation of the Mujahideen in this region was successfully accomplished. According to the Representative of Military Committee, the combat operations in Argun Gorge will be continued.
Soon as they can find somebody else willing to holler "Allahu Akbar" and get shot to pieces...
General Hussein Esabayev was an active participant in the combat operations against Russian invaders since 1994 till 2002.
At which time he ceased all activity at all...
He headed the units of the Mujahideen at the South-western front. He participated in famous battles for the village of Goiskey in Urus-Martan District of CRI, as well as in protecting and liberating the Chechen capital. He was honored with the highest government award. By the Decree issued by the President of CRI, he was given the rank of a General of Armed Forces of Chechen Republic of Ichkeria.
You may send flowers and donations of arms and ammunition to your local mosque...

East/Subsaharan Africa
LRA overruns refugee camp in Uganda...
Rebels overran a camp for Sudanese refugees in northern Uganda on Monday, killing an undetermined number of people and destroying equipment and supplies. The U.N.-run refugee camp in Acholipii, about 185 miles north of Kampala, houses 24,000 Sudanese refugees who have fled fighting near their homes in southern Sudan, said Bushra Malik, spokeswoman in Uganda for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees. She said it was too early to know how many refugees were killed.
Probably lots of them, since the LRA seems to be made up of pseudo-Christian lunatix...
Fighters from the Lord's Resistance Army attacked the camp early Monday morning, driving away 100 Ugandan soldiers and looting the camp for valuables and setting fire to anything they couldn't carry away, she said. "There was extensive, large scale damage to property, wide scale looting of equipment and supplies," Malik said, adding that the rebels stayed in the camp for two hours. "We are deeply concerned about the incident and we are working closely with the government to address the situation."
Does that mean they're going to send troops to hunt those orifices down and kill them? Or are they going to Hold Discussions™?

Europe
Car bomb kills little girl in Spain...
A little girl was reportedly killed and police said several others were injured when a car bomb exploded in front of a military police barracks in southeastern Spain Sunday. Police sources said the car bomb exploded shortly after 8:30 pm. in the town of Santa Pola. Witnesses and officials said several people who were waiting at a nearby bus stop were treated for injuries and taken to the hospital. Police cordoned off surrounding streets for fear there was another car bomb in the area. Santa Pola is a tourist resort town located on Spain's southeastern coast some 252 miles from Madrid and is packed with tourists in the month of August.
Lotsa people to kill, from all over Europe. A veritable terrorist's feast!
Although the cause of the blast had still to be confirmed, the Basque separatist group ETA has frequently used car bombs as part of its 32-year-old campaign for Basque independence. Some 800 people have been killed in their campaign.
Other suspect groups include... ummmm...

Fifth Column
MP Says U.K. Planning ''Crusader Invasion'' of Iraq
U.K. Labor MP George Galloway, who was traveling to Baghdad on Sunday, August 4, for talks with members of the Iraqi administration, criticized the upcoming war against Iraq saying that a “quarter-million man crusader invasion” of Iraq is being planned just because a “particular dictator doesn’t obey our orders”.
"Crusader invasion"... Hmmm... Crusaders... Where have we heard that before? Thanks for yore support, Mr Galloway...
“We have a political dispute with the Iraqi leadership and we have killed one million of their children under sanctions. I just think that is completely immoral. I think it stinks,” he told BBC’s Radio 4.
Is this guy angling for a job with the UN when he leaves Parliament? Or just in Brussels?

India-Pakistan
Islamic heroes shoot up Christian school near Islamabad...
Five unidentified gunmen stormed the gates of a Christian school in a popular mountain resort Monday, killing at least six people and wounding two others before escaping. The attack occurred at the Murree Christian School in Murree Hills, about 35 miles north of Islamabad in the Himalayan foothills. The school was founded in 1956 to train the children of missionaries here and in neighboring countries. A statement by the school said there had been "several deaths and injuries" but all students and expatriate staff were safe. One female missionary suffered an injury to her hand, the school said.
Sounds like the security guards/coppers are the ones who took it tough. Attacks on Christians — and anyone else who's not a Wahhabi or a Deobandi are getting pretty common in Pakland. That's a combination of xenophobia, political and religious fanaticism, and planning on the part of... who? My guess would be Qazi and/or Fazl, working hand in glove with the (more) extreme regligious lunatic parties.
Police official Mohammed Maqbool said officers exchanged fire with the attackers for about 20 minutes before the gunmen fled. Witnesses said they later saw bodies being taken from the scene. Federal officials in Islamabad said they did not know the identities or the motive of the attackers. The dead were identified as two security guards, two school employees, one unknown person and a retired teacher who was at the school to collect his pension.
The attack kinda screams either Sipah-i-Sahaba or Lashkar-i-Jhangvi — not that there's a difference...
It was the third fatal attack against Christian institutions in this predominantly Muslim country since President Pervez Musharraf joined the U.S.-led war against terrorism last year.

U.S. consulate in Karachi closed...
The United States has closed its consulate in Karachi because of security threats. "The consulate general has been closed for security reasons," said a spokeswoman at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad. She would not say if the closure was permanent or give further details. Consulate staff were sent home Monday morning and told to wait for instructions, said a consulate official in Karachi. Karachi city police chief Asad Jahangir told The Associated Press he had not heard of any specific threats to the heavily guarded consulate building. Islamic militants have threatened to strike against American interests in Pakistan in retaliation for Pakistan's support for the U.S.-led war against terror and its ongoing crackdown on Muslim extremists.
The trial of the goobers who bombed it last time is due to start on August 10th. I'd guess that may have something to do with it — there are enough nut cases running around Pakland who'd be happy to finish the job.

Perv sez he doesn't think Binny planned 9-11...
Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf said in an interview he does not believe that Osama bin Laden planned the Sept. 11 attacks against the United States. "I didn't think it is possible that Osama sitting up there in the mountains could do it," Musharraf told The New Yorker magazine. Musharraf said in the interview: "He was perhaps the sponsor, the financier, the motivating force. But those who executed it were much more modern. "They knew the U.S., they knew aviation. I don't think he has the intelligence or the minute planning. The planner was someone else." Musharraf does not say who he thinks was behind the attacks.
Did that statement make any sense? Didn't think so...

Inquiry begins into banned groups' finances
The Federal Investigation Agency is learnt to have initiated a thorough investigation into the financial affairs of all banned organisations and the Taliban across the country. Sources in the interior ministry told Dawn that while other intelligence agencies were already gathering the details of bank accounts of the banned sectarian and Jihadi organisations, the FIA was assigned to locate and identify the financiers and donors of these organisations. They said the FIA had started gathering details of the accounts maintained by Lashkar-i-Taiba, Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan, Harkatul Mujahideen, Al-Rashid Trust, Al-Badar, Saif-ul-Mujahideen, Tehreek-i-Jafferia Pakistan and Jaish Mohammed. The sources said each proscribed organisation had been maintaining several local and foreign currencies accounts with different nationalised and commercial banks, including Habib Bank, National Bank, Allied Bank, Muslim Commercial Bank and Faysal Bank.
Muslim Commercial Bank is mostly owned by the Government of Pakistan. Habib Bank has 35 branches internationally, and is headed by Reza Habib. Chairman of the Board of Faysal Bank is H.R.H Prince Mohamed Al Faisal Al Saud. National Bank is a Pakistani financial institution, headed by Ali Reza. Probably the banks involved have no significance, as the Bad Guys likely dummy up their accounts in a most confusing manner. What will be significant is the amount of cooperation the PakFeds get from the banks...

Euros denying visas for Soddy preachers...
A number of European embassies, including Belgium and Spain, are either delaying or rejecting visas for Saudi preachers intending to visit European countries during summer holidays to preach to the Muslim communities, an Arab daily reported Monday.
Don't want the rabble roused, huh?
Daily al-Sharq al-Awsat, published from London, quoted sources close to the Saudi dawa delegations that are organized by the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs expressing their regret and disgust over the behaviour of the European embassies in Riyadh. According to the Arab paper, some African embassies in Riyadh also, like the Ugandan embassy, are demanding that Saudi preachers undergo an interview with the ambassador to verify the purpose of their visits. Forty Saudi subversives preachers were expected to visit 80 European, Asian and African countries this summer to preach.
Ahhh... Europe in the summer time! How I miss it! The cool, deep greens of the Black Forest... Copenhagen on an August evening... wall-to-wall pretty girls on the Costa Brava... the howling mobs of Brussels...

Middle East
Work accident splatters one Paleo, perforates another...
Hours after the army announced the ban, a car exploded in northern Israel, killing one passenger and wounding another, apparently both Palestinian militants on their way to carry out an attack. Rescue officials called the explosion, at a road junction outside the Arab Israeli town of Umm el-Fahm, a "work accident" - a term used when a militant's bomb explodes prematurely. Israel's Channel Two television said the two were both militants.
"Mahmoud, this road's pretty bumpy! Waht if this thing goes off?"
"Don't worry, Aziz. I've got another one in the trunk!"

Israeli troops on Monday arrested Mazen Foqha, a senior Hamas activist, on suspicion that he supplied the explosives for Sunday's bus attack. Palestinians said Fokha headed the Hamas military wing in the West Bank's Jenin district.

Mubarak invites Sharon to meet with Yasser...
Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres made his first visit to Egypt - a key mediator in the conflict - in more than year, and he and his Egyptian counterpart, Ahmed Maher, showed sharp differences over how to end the deadlock. During talks with Peres, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak invited Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to meet at a Sinai resort. There was no immediate response from either side to the offer, but a source in Sharon's office suggested no meeting was possible as long as violence continued. "Our position has always been that we will negotiate with someone who's a partner for peace, not someone who shoots at you," the source said.
Ummm... Don't think that answer was definite enough. I assume it was generated by Peres. Sharon should respond, "Yasser who?" and whack that camel real hard, right on the nose.

Tanks cut off Rafah, in Gaza Strip...
In Gaza, about 25 tanks took up positions on the main north-south road, cutting off the southern town of Rafah, a flashpoint of violence, and an adjacent refugee camp from the rest of the strip.
Rantissi was just hopping around, making faces, and double-daring the Israelis to invade Gaza. I really do think they should do it. The cannon fodder's on the West Bank, but the brains planners are in Gaza...

Travel restrictions on West Bank Paleos...
Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer announced a "total closure" in the northern West Bank and vowed further travel restrictions. Troops are planning operations to "maintain a much bigger closure than what we are doing now," he said. Under the new ban, Palestinians will not be able to drive in the northern West Bank, between the towns of Nablus, Jenin, Qalqiliya, Tulkarem and Ramallah, the army said. Some movement will be permitted in the southern West Bank, including the towns of Hebron, Bethlehem and Jericho. Stringent restrictions on Palestinian travel have been in place since the outbreak of fighting in September 2000, with Palestinians confined to their communities for extended periods as Israeli troops try to prevent terror attacks. Palestinians trying to get to jobs and schools often use dirt roads to evade military checkpoints. The military said blockades would be strictly enforced, with exceptions made for humanitarian cases.
Not being acquainted with cause and effect, the Paleos will decry the unfairness of it all — and probably kill somebody in revenge. Then they'll get all indignant about the next set of restrictions...

Israelis nab nine intended boomers...
Officials said Israel captured nine Palestinian suicide bombers last week. A tenth bomber was killed.
They mean intended suicide boomers...
So far, officials said, Israel has detained 129 Palestinians accused of intending to carry out suicide attacks.
129 boomers... Assuming an average of 150 pounds per boomer, that's 19,350 pounds of flying meat... Yuck.
Over the weekend, Israeli authorities destroyed the homes of nine suicide bombers in the West Bank. Officials said the homes were destroyed after the government concluded that several Palestinians prepared for suicide attacks but withdrew from their plans in fear of retaliation against their families.
"Dear Mom and Dad,
"Sorry about the house. I'll have my virgins make it up to you in Paradise.
"With hatred toward the Zionists,
"Abdul"

MK sez Sharon should resign and find an old folks' home...
MK Avigdor Lieberman, co-leader of the ultra-nationalist National Union-Yisrael Beiteinu bloc, called Monday, August 5, on Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to resign, advising him to take Foreign Minister Shimon Peres with him to a “suitable old-age home,” the Israeli newspaper, Ha’aretz, reported.
Glad to see we're pulling together in this thing, Avigdor...
“He has utterly failed. Before the elections, the man promised peace and security. There is no peace, there is no security,” Lieberman, who served Sharon as national infrastructure minister before resigning in protest at what the rightist party called inaction in taking sanctions against Palestinian Presient Yasser Arafat, told Israeli Army Radio in a blast at the prime minister.
Sharon sometimes resembles the cartoon version of the little Dutch boy with his finger in the dyke — he sticks a finger in the hole to plug it, another opens and he sticks a finger of the other hand in; another one opens and he kicks his shoe off and uses his toe; then the other foot; and finally he's going after another hole with his tongue... Avigdor doesn't see it that way, for some reason. Maybe he never saw the cartoon?
“There is no path, no diplomatic goals. The man is fighting for the closest public opinion poll to appear in the newspaper,” he added.
"Yeah. He should be catchin' every boomer that comes close to Israeli territory. He should be catchin' 'em before they even think about it..."
“Therefore, from my standpoint, the man should take Peres with him, walk hand in hand, find an appropriate old age home and remove themselves as fast as possible.”
Sure is easy to criticize if you're not the one making the decisions, isn't it?

Islamist shoot each other up at Ain el-Hilweh...
Four people were shot and wounded overnight as members of Islamist groups in Lebanon's Ain el-Hilweh refugee camp clashed over the handover of a suspected militant to Lebanon's army. They gunmen from a splinter faction of the obscure Islamist group Osbat al-Ansar opened fire late on Sunday on members of Hamas whom they suspected of helping Lebanese authorities arrest a man accused of killing three security officers last month.
Think about the statement. That's one hell of a neighborhood, where Hamas represents the forces of lawnorder...
The four were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Palestinian factions handed over Badie Hamadeh, whom Lebanese officials accused of links to Osbat al-Ansar, after he hid in the camp following the death of security officers during an attempt to arrest him in the southern port city of Sidon.
This was three weeks ago. They're still shooting each other up.

I've thought about Bigwig's suggestion for resettling the Paleostinians. I'd say no, thank you. We don't need this kind of stuff.

IDF strikes Gaza weapons factory...
Israeli helicopters struck a suspected weapons factory in Gaza City Monday night following a weekend of terror attacks that killed 13 Israelis. The Israel Defense Forces said its forces attacked a steel works used to manufacture weapons. "The IDF will continue to attack and destroy the terrorist infrastructure in Gaza Strip and in every place where there is terrorist activity against Israeli citizens," the IDF said. One explosion lit up the nighttime sky with a bright blue flash. Moments later electricity went out in parts of the city. CNN crews said at least three rockets were fired. They said ambulances were moving throughout the city and there were no signs of Israeli troops moving on the ground. Palestinian sources said four people were lightly wounded.
That's too bad (he said, ambiguously).
