North Carolina power substations taken out by gunfire: sheriff
[Fox News] Over 40,000 Moore County, North Carolina residents are without power, which may not be restored until Thursday.

Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields said in a Facebook post on Saturday that just after 7 p.m. on that night, several communities across the county began to experience power outages.

Duke Energy, which operates the power grid in the county, responded to at least two different substations and there was evidence of intentional vandalism at both, Fields said.

NORTH CAROLINA SHERIFF SAYS ‘INTENTIONAL VANDALISM’ AT SUBSTATIONS CAUSED POWER OUTAGES FOR 40K CUSTOMERS

"We faced something last night here in Moore County we have never faced before," Fields said during a Facebook Live press conference on Sunday afternoon.

The sheriff gave a few more details about the situation, saying there was extensive damage found at two substations caused by multiple gunshots, which caused power outages primarily in the central and northern portions of the county.

#2  News is saying that 'they knew what they were doing'.

I'll wait for the Duke Energy internal assessment as to what was actually damaged before corroborating that claim.

They may keep the actual components damaged under wraps as to not encourage copycats, though.

#3  I believe I've said it here before, but most 'targets' within a substation are fairly robust, but some are indeed fragile.

#7  If it is Antifa, I would recommend that they not knock out power in any section of NC once basketball season is in full swing. In general folks there have a lot of guns, can shoot them and have always considered utilizing the criminal justice system as purely optional. Also the drive fast cars recklessly and road maintenance is theoretical once you are off the highways.

#12  #8 The last round of substation attacks in CA were around 2013-2014. In one attack, the shooter(s) took out at least a dozen transformers. Perp was never caught. 1)They had skill 2)Had specific targets in mind to accomplish a specific goal 3)Knew how long they had to accomplish attack and skip before LE showed up. What can be gleaned is that whoever initiated this attack came away with some very important info.

#14  In doing single point of failure analysis, it is not usual to consider a strategic scale of impact for a local event. The substation gunfire attack in CA gave a certain cautionary warning regarding replacement of key substructure and replacement time/cost. Certain types of transformers on mainline grid transmission lines were/are manufactured exclusively overseas, and replacement units in CONUS are kept at low stockage rates because of cost. So routine maintenance/replacement is mostly conducted by energy utility companies like PG&E, SCE and SDGE, on a LIFO, one for one ordering system with the manufacturers. Widespread, simultaneous substation kinetic attacks, low tech and easily subcontracted to local criminal groups with no terrorism markers in national databases, would overwhelm the replacement systems and domestic stockpiles, effectively creating massive national security impacts akin to an EMP attack without an electronic fingerprint. Such an event would require weeks or even months to mitigate given the small manufacture rate of such units. Somewhere within DHS a critical infrastructure analysis threat assessment is gathering dust I suspect.

Daily Evacuation Brief December 5, 2022
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • JALALABAD BLAST CALLED ACT OF TERROR – Taliban security officials in Jalalabad have stated that the explosion reported in a Jalalabad commercial center on Saturday was a terrorist attack. They went on to say the blast was caused by an explosive device that had been hidden in a flower pot. 6 non-combatants were injured in the blast and several shops were damaged. One of the shops belonged to the city’s only Sikh resident, Gul Charan, but it was not immediately clear if he had been targeted. The attack has still not been claimed by any group.

  • PUBLIC FLOGGINGS CONTINUE – The latest was reported on Sunday in Ghor Province where 7 people were whipped for various moral offenses. Among those punished was 1 woman. The punishments were meted out at the soccer stadium in Firoz. The Taliban forbid spectators from filming/photographing the event. While this event is thought to be the fifth public flogging since the Supreme Leader issued his decree, there have been nearly fifty reports of smaller punishment ceremonies in rural areas.

  • ISIS-K (DAESH) CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY FOR PAKISTAN EMBASSY ATTACK – ISIS-K began posting messages on its social media accounts that took credit for the attack on the Pakistani Charge d’Affaires. Most analysts and observers were surprised by the announcements as most had assumed the attacks were part of the TTPs new campaign against the government of Pakistan. Pakistan has undertaken its own independent investigation into the matter of who was responsible and has yet to accept the ISIS-K claims.

  • MINISTRY OF EDUCATION EXAMINES CURRICULUM OFFERINGS – The Ministry announced that it was nearing the end of a research project to streamline the educational offerings for University students. Significant cuts to current degree programs are expected and while no official word has yet been given, several programs generally chosen by women are expected to be done away with.

  • A TRUCK RUNS OVER PEDESTRIANS AT TORKHAM GATE – Yesterday, a large container truck plowed into a group of pedestrians and at least 20 casualties have been reported. It is not clear how many were killed in the incident. An investigation is underway and very few details have been released.

NEXT 24 HOURS
PAKISTAN EMBASSY ATTACK INVESTIGATION TO CONTINUE – Likely drawn from confessions under interrogation, the Ministry of the Interior has dispatched two additional search teams from Kabul. It is believed the GDI agents are heading to Badakhshan Province but may also meet with Pakistan ISI officials at the border to share information about the ISIS groups in Pakistan who claim to have masterminded the attacks. A source in the Police said that any additional suspects who may have participated in the attempted assassination had probably fled the city at this point. We do not assess any threat to at-risk Afghans that will result from the new operations.

Suicide bombers in women's veils - ISIS claims Pak embassy attack
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] There have been several explosions and shootings in Afghanistan in recent months.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced the assassination attempt on the Pakistani ambassador in Kabul and said he demanded "immediate investigation and arrest of those responsible for this heinous incident."

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attack on the embassy in Kabul and called for an "immediate and full investigation".

The Foreign Ministry called on the Taliban government to "immediately conduct a full investigation, arrest and prosecute those responsible for the attack, and take immediate measures to ensure the safety of diplomatic personnel and Pakistani citizens in Afghanistan."

During the incident, the ambassador's bodyguard was "seriously wounded".

The Taliban condemned the attack on the Pakistani embassy and said they would not allow “hostile individuals to encroach on the security of foreign missions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Taliban government (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation) said that an "immediate investigation" was launched into the attack.

Khalid Zadran, a spokesman for the Kabul police, tweeted that the Taliban had arrested a suspect in today's attack on the Pakistani embassy in Kabul.

Zadran wrote that after shooting “from the building” towards the Pakistani embassy in the Karte Parvan area, Taliban security forces (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation) “promptly” arrived in the area and “stopped further shooting, arrested the suspect and seized he has two weapons."

ATTACK ON HEKMATYAR
Also in Kabul, the office of the Islamic Party of Afghanistan (IPA), headed by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, was attacked.

Hekmatyar, a few hours after the attack, reported that the office of the party was attacked by two suicide bombers in women's veils.

He said that as a result of the shooting opened by the attackers, one person was killed and two wounded from among the people who dispersed after praying.

According to Hekmatyar, the suicide bombers were killed before they reached their target.

During Friday prayers, gunmen reportedly attacked a mosque located at the IPA headquarters in Dar ul-Aman, in the 6th security district of Kabul city.

According to sources, the attackers arrived in a car and opened fire on the believers.

The IPA released a statement saying that Hekmatyar and other members of the party's leadership were not injured in the attack.

So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

In recent months, there have been several explosions and shootings in Afghanistan, a number of which have been claimed by Velayat Khorasan (an organization banned in the Russian Federation) (an affiliate of IS in Afghanistan and Pakistan).
ANI adds:
The Khaama Press quoted the regional wing of the Islamic State (ISIS) as claiming credit for the attack on "the apostate Pak ambassador and his guards".

The statement was made public on Saturday, the Khaama informed.

Al Jazeera reported, citing a Pak embassy official, that the attacker "came behind the cover of houses and started firing" in the embassy compound.

Nizamani travelled to Kabul last month to take up his position at one of the few embassies that has continued to function since the Taliban seized power in August 2021.
Dawn adds:
According to an official, Nizamani was walking in Pakistain mission’s lawn in Kabul’s Kart-e-Parwan neighbourhood when Death Eaters shot at him.

The shots hit a security guard, identified as Sepoy Israr Mohammad, who was "critically injured" while attempting to save Nizamani, according to the FO.

Mohammad, who was hit by two bullets, was shifted to a hospital and later moved to Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistain's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire...

SNA engaged in a heavy fighting with Al-Shabaab near Adan Yabaal
Watch out for tunnels, guys!
[ShabelleMedia] The reports from the Middle Shabelle region, southern Somalia indicate that heavy fighting broke out on Sunday morning in Juhay area near Adan Yabaal.

Sunday’s battle between Somali troops and local community fighters on one side and al-Shabaab
...... Somalia's version of the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...

began after an attack on the area, which is under the control of the murderous Moslems.

Some reports suggest that warplanes have taken part in the offensive against al-Shabaab that military officials said dealt a major blow to the murderous Moslem group.

The main aim of the ongoing battle is to push al-Shabaab out of Adan Yabaal, which is the final pocket of the snuffies in the Middle Shabelle region, where they held for 15 years.

The situation on the ground remains tense with both sides making military movements that could lead a full-blown war in the region, which borders the capital, Mogadishu.
Garowe adds:
Troops have reportedly seized Gulane, the home village of Hibaad Ali Dasar, the late leader of Ma’awisley, a clan-mobilized team that has been fighting alongside the Somali National Army, the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS], and the US Africa Command.

Experts say should the forces manage to secure the town from the hands of al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
, then it means it will take much less time than before to liberate most areas within Middle Shabelle. The al-Shabaab holy warriors are synonymous with the Middle Shabelle region which they have been controlling for the last couple of months.

The Somali National Army has made significant gains in the region as al-Shabaab continues to lose ground according to reports from the government. To fight back, the group has been waging retaliatory attacks mainly targeting innocent civilians, government officials, and security forces.

Arabia
Islah Party forces strike against southern Yemeni separatists in Hadhramaut
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] Forces of the First Military Region, a unit affiliated with the Islah party, have foiled a first offensive operation against its gunnies in the city of Seiyoun, the capital of Hadhramaut governorate, eastern Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
According to sources, Islah gunnies arrested a cell loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), which was in possession of a number of improvised bombs at the entrances to Seiyoun, during the search process.

Source confirmed that STC loyalists tried to bring bombs into the city during an event they tried to hold on Friday on the occasion of UAE National Day in the city.

On Saturday, the so-called Southern Resistance® in Hadhramaut called for armed struggle against the forces of the First Military Region in the region, because of their "barbaric repressive practices" against the people of the valley districts.

Iraq
Iraqi army fends off an ISIS attack in Makhmour
[Shafaq News] Iraq's military managed to fend off an attack waged by a group of ISIS snuffies on Makhmour's village of Azhi Kanz, the district commissioner Rizgar Mohammed reported on Sunday.

Mohammed said the Iraqi army's 14th division clashed with a group of ISIS snuffies near Mount Qara Gogh.

Mortar and heavy artillery were deployed by the Iraqi army, he added.

Early reports said a camp sheltering Ottoman Turkish Kurds in Makhmour was hit by an unknown drone. However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
it was later revealed that the earth-shattering kabooms resulted from the Iraqi army's artillery.

Turkish military base in northern Iraq came under fire, source says
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited
[RIA Novosti] A military base in northern Iraq, where Turkish troops are stationed, was hit by rocket fire on Sunday, there were no casualties in the incident, a source in the security forces told RIA Novosti.

"At least seven rockets fell near the location of the Zlikan military base, where Turkish troops are deployed, in northern Iraq. There were no casualties in the incident," he said.

Since November 20, Turkey has been conducting an air operation against the Syrian wing of the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in northern Syria - strikes were reported on the city of Kobani, as well as in northern Iraq.
Shafaq News adds:
Eight rockets fired by an unknown group targeted the Ottoman Turkish Zelikan military base in Nineveh's disputed district of Bashiqa, a local official reported. No group has grabbed credit for the attack.

The administrator of the Zelikan sub-district, Mohammad Amin, said that the rockets did not make it past the mountain that separates the Bashiqa district and the military base.

Yesterday, the base was targeted by four rockets; only two of which landed in its vicinity. An armed faction named "The Islamic Resistance®-Ahar al-Iraq ("Freemen of Iraq") grabbed credit for the attack in a statement issued shortly after.

Hamas posts video of its members firing missiles at Israeli fighter jets
[IsraelTimes] The Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, terror group posts footage of its members launching anti-aircraft missiles at Israeli fighter jets over the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip early this morning.

The missile fire came as the Israeli Air Force launched strikes against Hamas in response to an earlier rocket attack on southern Israel.

The Israeli jets were not damaged by the missiles, but still targeted a Hamas post in response.

According to experts, the missile-launching system Hamas is using against the Israeli fighter jets is highly unlikely to be successful.

Officers seize M-16 rifle from suspect at Shuafat crossing in Jerusalem
[IsraelTimes] Border Police troops and Military Police soldiers seize an M-16 rifle from a suspect at the Shuafat checkpoint in East Jerusalem, a police front man says.

According to police, officers and soldiers searched a car that arrived at the checkpoint, and found the assault rifle in the trunk. The driver, a 21-year-old resident of the Shuafat refugee camp, has been arrested.

The Military Police’s Erez Battalion is due to leave the checkpoint permanently tonight, after a deadly shooting attack occurred there in October.

The probe of the attack pointed to a series of failures and shortcomings that led to a soldier being killed, with the military and police agreeing to pull the battalion from the checkpoint.

Border Police chief Amir Cohen says he praises the battalion for its "professional" work over the years.

"Today, about five minutes before the end of the battalion’s deployment at the Shuafat crossing, a soldier seized an M-16 weapon that could have reached terrorist or criminal elements," Cohen adds.

In a bid to quell protests, Syrian gov’t forces deploy mass troops to Suwayda after 2 killed in protests
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

Military vehicles with soldiers onboard headed from Daraa towards Suwayda, south Syria, in line with protests sweeping the governorate.

A local source told North Press he "saw military reinforcements heading from Brigade 12 located in the town of Izraa, north Daraa, towards the governorate of Suwayda."

According to the source, such reinforcement were sent following the recent popular protests in the city.

Today morning, tens of locals in Suwayda organized a protest in front of the governorate building that was met with fire in which a young man was killed and five others were maimed.

Reinforcement included military vehicles onboard tens of soldiers and four-wheel-drive vehicles installed with anti-aircraft heavy machine guns.

Brigade 12, which is nearly a 14 km distance from the city of Suwayda, is a biggest force within the Fifth Division. It is home to a mass number of military personnel and vehicles.

Two dead as protesters, police clash in southern Syria
Something in Syria unconnected to the War on Terror.
[Rudaw] A protester and a policeman were killed Sunday in Syria's southern city of Sweida as security forces cracked down on a rare demonstration by hundreds against deteriorating living conditions.

Tensions were high in the regime-held city after protesters threw rocks at a government building and stormed it, removing a large picture of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Leveler of Latakia...
from its facade, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

"At least one protester and one police officer were killed," Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

The protester was rubbed out when security forces opened fire after demonstrators entered the building, he said, adding that government forces have fanned out in the city, dispersing protesters.

Local news outlet Suwayda24 confirmed the two deaths and said four others were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds in the Druze-majority city.

The Sweida region south of Damascus is the heartland of the Druze, who made up less than three percent of Syria's pre-war population and have largely kept out of the country's civil war.

That war has killed nearly half a million people since it began in 2011 with the brutal repression of anti-government protests, fragmenting the country and causing economic collapse.

- 'PURSUE THE OUTLAWS' -
Suwayda24 posted images on social media earlier in the day that showed protesters calling for the fall of the regime as security forces stood guard outside the building.

Other images showed a military vehicle on fire and burning tyres on main streets of the city. Gunshots could be heard in some of the footage.

Syria's interior ministry said a "group of outlaws" killed one policeman while they tried to storm police headquarters.

Some protesters carried weapons, the ministry said.

"We will pursue the outlaws, and take legal measures against anyone who tries to tamper with the security and stability of the Sweida governorate and the safety of its citizens," the ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

State television said "lawbreakers" had stormed the provincial government building and "set fire to official documents and files".

Syria's economy has been pummelled by both its long-running civil war and Western sanctions against Damascus, and the value of the local currency has plummeted.

Ninety percent of the population now lives below the poverty line and 12.4 million people are food insecure, according to the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
Sweida and other cities have been hit hard by nationwide electricity rationing and chronic fuel shortages that severely hamper daily life.
It’s a worldwide problem, guys, thanks to certain really stupid decisions made by presidents Putin and Biden, not to mention a good many others around the world. I wish y’all were special, because that would mean dear Dr. Bashir Assad would be able to make it all better with the wave of his hand, but your aren’t and he can’t.
The government in recent days announced further austerity measures, including more electricity rationing.

In February, hundreds erupted into the streets in Sweida to demand better living conditions and democratic rule, the Observatory said at the time. Smaller protests were held there in 2020.
The Times of Israel adds:
Protests in Syria’s Druze-majority Sweida province turn violent mostly peaceful, leading to the deaths of a protester and a police officer, and wounding seven others.

Anti-government demonstrations are rare in Syria where Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

stamped out a pro-democracy uprising over a decade ago. Assad survived the resulting civil war but the conflict has plunged Syria into poverty, coupled with a food security and energy crisis.

Though Sweida has generally been spared from the civil war, anti-corruption protests have occurred in the Druze-majority province over the past few years, with tensions simmering between residents and the Syrian government led by Assad.

Dozens of residents gather by the Sweida governorate building, decrying the dire economic situation and chanting anti-government slogans before some break into the building.
Dozens? That’s not very big. The Rudaw article above makes it sound like furious crowds were rampaging across the city.
The Syrian Interior Minister in a statement says that the people who raided the building were armed, and destroyed furniture, smashed windows, and looted files. The statement adds that a police officer was killed after protesters attacked a cop shoppe.

Iran says it has executed 4 alleged Mossad agents accused of spying for Israel
[IsraelTimes] Another 3 people given prison time for allegedly being members of network accused of destroying property, kidnapping individuals for interrogation

Iranian authorities executed four people Sunday accused of working for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, the state-run IRNA news agency said. Three others received lengthy prison sentences.

"This morning, the sentences of four main members of the gang of mobsters related to the Zionist intelligence service were executed," the judiciary’s Mizan Online website reported.

IRNA said the country’s powerful Revolutionary Guard announced the arrests of a network of people linked to the Israeli agency. It said the members had previous criminal records and tried to disrupt the country’s security.

Israel and Iran
...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979...
are regional arch-enemies and Iran occasionally announces the detention of people it says are spying for foreign countries, including the United States and Israel. Iran does not recognize Israel and supports anti-Israeli terror groups across the region, such as Hezbollah and Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw,.

Network members allegedly stole and destroyed private and public property and kidnapped individuals and interrogated them, according to the report. It said the alleged spies had weapons and received wages from Mossad in the form of cryptocurrency.

IRNA identified the executed prisoners as Hossein Ordoukhanzadeh, Shahin Imani Mahmoudabadi, Milad Ashrafi, and Manouchehr Shahbandi. Three other members of the group received sentences of five to 10 years in prison, according to the news agency, but they were not identified.

Reports did not say how the executions were carried out.

Iran and Israel have long accused each other of spying. Israel views Iran as its greatest threat and has repeatedly threatened to take military action to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Iran denies seeking such weapons and has vowed a harsh response to any Israeli aggression.
Rudaw adds:
Iranian state media reported that Hossein Ordukhanzadeh, Shahin Imani Mahmudabad, Milad Ashrafi, and Manochehr Shahbandi Bejandi were hanged for allegedly cooperating with Israeli intelligence (Mossad).

Three other people were sentenced to between five and 10 years in prison for possession of weapons and crimes against Iran’s national security, the website added.

In July, the judiciary had announced the arrest of a number of suspects it claimed were working with the Mossad. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced in October it had arrested an individual it accused of being a spy for Israel in the southeastern city of Kerman.

#1  I salute the simplicity of the enemies list of the Iranian totalitarian regime. The Mossad and the CIA are like Vanilla and Chocolate of their political saga. The Strawberry of the Kurds probably complete their Neapolitan hate universe.

Iran demolishes family home of climber who competed without a hijab
[IsraelTimes] Undated video shows brother of Elnaz Rekabi sobbing next to ruins of house; anti-government activist muppets claim it was punitive action, authorities say it didn’t have proper permits.

Iranian state media announced Saturday that the family home of Elnaz Rekabi, an Iranian female rock climber who competed abroad with her hair uncovered, had been demolished.

Rekabi became a symbol of the anti-government movement in October after competing in a rock climbing competition in South Korea without wearing a mandatory headscarf required of female athletes from the Islamic Theocratic Republic. In an Instagram post the following day, Rekabi described not wearing a hijab as "unintentional," but it remains unclear whether she wrote the post herself and if she did, what condition she was in at the time.

Rekabi was later placed under house arrest and according to reports, her brother was also detained for a period of time. The BBC has cited unnamed sources saying that her apology was forced.

Iran’s official judiciary news agency, Mizan, said the destruction of the home was due to its "unauthorized construction and use of land," adding that the demolition had taken place months before Rekabi competed.

Anti-government activist muppets have disputed this, arguing that it was a targeted demolition.

A video circulating on social media last week showed ruins of a house with medals on the ground. Rekabi’s brother, Davood — himself a medal-winning competitive climber — was seen crying in the footage. It was not clear when the video was taken.

Since September, Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites....
has been roiled by nationwide protests that have come to mark one of the greatest challenges to its theocracy since the chaotic years after its 1979 Islamic Revolution. The protests were sparked when Mahsa Amini, 22, died in jug September 16, three days after her arrest by the morality police for violating the Islamic Theocratic Republic’s strict dress code for women. Iran’s government insists Amini was not mistreated, but her family says her body showed bruises and other signs of beating.

In a statement issued by the state-run IRNA news agency Saturday, the country’s national security council announced that some 200 people have been killed during the protests, the body’s first official word on the casualties. Last week, Iranian general Amir Ali Hajizadeh tallied the corpse count at more than 300.

The contradictory tolls are lower than the toll reported by Human Rights Activists in Iran, a US-based organization that has been closely monitoring the protest since the outbreak. In its most recent update, the group says that 469 people have been killed and 18,210 others detained in the protests and the violent mostly peaceful security force crackdown that followed.

Since September, there has been a reported decline in the number of morality coppers across Iranian cities. The group was established in 2005 with the task of arresting people who violate the country’s Islamic dress code.

In a report published late Saturday by IRNA, Iran’s prosecutor general, Mohammed Jafar Montazeri, said the morality police had been ’’closed.’’ He provided no further details about the state of the force, or if its closure was widespread and permanent.

"The judiciary continues to monitor behavioral actions at the community level," Montazeri added.

#1  So they have benevolently dismantled the morality squad or they may not have, but they are keeping their house destruction bulldozer idling like an I-80 snowplow. Way to send a schizophrenic signal of hypocrisy and tyrannical cruelty spiced with a sprinkle of weak capitulation. The entire regime is toast.
