[Jpost] The city has not had a formal mosque since 200 years ago.
After years of delays caused by red tape, cutbacks and opposition from religious and political factions, the first government-funded mosque in Athens since 1833 opened its doors to worshippers on Friday.
Hundreds of thousands of Moslems from countries including Pakistain, Syria, Afghanistan and Bangladesh live in Athens but the city has not had a formal mosque since it forced occupying Ottomans to leave nearly 200 years ago.
Plans to build a mosque in Athens began in 1890 but it took decades for them to materialize due to opposition from a predominantly Christian Orthodox population and nationalists, sluggish bureaucracy but most recently a decade-long financial crisis.
Amid a coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague) ...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men... outbreak, only a limited number of worshippers, wearing masks and sitting at a distance from each other due to COVID-19 restrictions, attended prayers.
"It is a historic moment for the Moslem community living in Athens, we have been waiting for this mosque for so long," said Heider Ashir, a member of the mosque's governing council. "Thanks to God, finally, we have a mosque which is open and we can pray here freely."
But other Moslems were unhappy with the mosque's appearance. A grey, rectangular structure with no dome or minaret, has no resemblance to other graceful, ornate mosques in Europe.
"It does not at all look like a place of worship, it is a small, square, miserable building," said Naim El Ghandour, head of the Moslem Association of Greece. "We thank them very much for the offer, but we will fight to reach it to the level that we deserve."
Under a lockdown to curb a surge in COVID infections, gatherings for formal worshipping will be banned from Saturday until Nov. 30.
"We will pray at home, and as soon as the lockdown is over the mosque will again be open for the worshippers," Ashir said.

[DAILYTIMES.PK] Police in Uttar Pradesh’s famous city of Mathura has started the paperwork but haven't done much else against four members of Delhi-based origination "Khudai Khidmatgar", a well-known organization working for communal harmony, and arrested its leader Faisal Khan.
Faisal Khan has been charged with spreading hatred among various groups on religious grounds, desecrating the temple and misbehaving with the people.
Police registered case against him for offering ’Namaz’ inside Temple without permission.
Four members of the Khudai Khidmatgar organization, Faisal Khan, Chand Mohammad, Alok Ratan, and Nilesh Gupta set out on a long bicycle journey with a message of love and brotherhood to teach sectarian harmony in temples and mosques.
He paid his obeisance there. That was the time of his afternoon prayers, so he asked for a suitable place. The people who were there in the temple allowed him to offer prayers in the temple compound itself by saying that you are already in the home of God so why do you need to go anywhere else. Hearing it, Faisal Khan completed his prayers. After it, he and other members stayed in the Temple for some more time and they had their lunch in the same temple, Gupta added.
"Everything was fine. On October 29 the Yatra was completed and he returned to Delhi with all. After 3 days he got the information from some local media people that there are some people who are not happy with the incidents, which took place on 29th October and they are going to complain with the police, "he added.
The trial and arrest came after a complaint was lodged by a temple priest a day earlier.
Among the four members of Khudai Khidmatgar, who cycled with the message of sectarian harmony, were two Hindus and two Moslems.
Temple members say the prayers have polluted the temple, for which preparations are being made to clean the entire temple and premises with the holy water of the Ganga.

[Jpost] "Unlike this chamber which is detached from reality, a growing number of nations are acknowledging Jerusalem," said Gilad Erdan.
Even if Gropey Joe briefly lives in the White House, President Trump has permanently changed the world.
Some 138 United Nations ...boodling on the grand scale... countries approved a draft resolution that spoke of the Temple Mount solely as an Islamic holy site, by referencing it only by its Moslem name of al-Haram al-Sharif.

U.N. Resolution Labels Jerusalem's Temple Mount as "Haram Al-Sharif" (video)
[Watchman] Host Erick Stakelbeck breaks down this week’s seven anti-Israel resolutions passed by the United Nations, including one in particular that refers to Jerusalem’s Temple Mount—the place where the First and Second Jewish Temples once stood—only by its Muslim name, "Haram al-Sharif." Erick discusses which nations opposed this dubious resolution, and which ones supported it.

President Trump has permanently changed the world.
How so?
If Harris/Biden together with the other UN great powers threaten to impose crippling sanctions on nations deviating from UN orthodoxy, the Jerusalem recognition will have only been a brief mirage.
Also Iran will now be a US backed reinvigorated local (soon nuclear) hegemon with the proven ability to project asymmetrical force globally.
No one will provoke a dangerous Iran and risk sanctions just to make a symbolic point about Israel.

No one will provoke a dangerous Iran and risk sanctions just to make a symbolic point about Israel.
All those European countries that go on about Israel in public have been quietly seeking trade deals with her in private, because the so-called Innovation Nation has products and businesses they want to buy. China and the other Asian tigers, too.
Also, if Biden/Harris’s America does throw their weight behind Iran and against Israel, Israel will be the only protection against Iran that the Sunni oil nations have. As is now coming out, they have been quietly dealing directly with Israel for a decade.
And while right now the Sunni oil countries are struggling because of low oil prices, if Biden/Harris fulfill their promise to roll back American fracking, oil orices will go back up and the Sunni oil countries will have even more money to pay for Israel’s military help.
[IsraelTimes] New measures hit Gebran Bassil, a politician who leads the largest bloc in parliament and a son-in-law of President Michel Aoun ...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah... , accusing him of corruption
The US Treasury on Friday slapped sanctions on Leb ...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers... ’s former foreign minister and a leading Christian political ally of the Hezbollah terror group, singling him out for what it said was his role in corruption.
Gebran Bassil, a politician who leads the largest bloc in parliament and a son-in-law of President Michel Aoun, has emerged as a major target of Lebanese protesters who thronged streets in an uprising last year over endemic corruption and state mismanagement.
The Treasury designation did not mention Bassil’s alliance or links to Hezbollah, but the sanctions targeting him appeared to be part of the Trump administration’s maximum pressure campaign against Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... and its allies in the region.
The United States has been sanctioning Hezbollah officials for years, and recently began targeting politicians close to the group. In September, the Treasury imposed sanctions on two former Lebanese cabinet ministers allied with the terror group in a strong message to Hezbollah and its allies who control majority seats in the parliament.
Friday’s announcement is a major expansion of the scope of sanctions targeting Hezbollah’s political partners in Lebanon.
"The systemic corruption in Lebanon’s political system exemplified by Bassil has helped to erode the foundation of an effective government that serves the Lebanese people," said US Secretary Steve Mnuchin.
Immediately after the designation, Bassil tweeted that the sanctions do not frighten him. "I have gotten used to injustice and learned from our history: It is our fate in this Orient to carry our cross every day ... in order to survive," he tweeted.
The announcement came as the world anxiously awaited the result of US elections and Donald Trump ...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons...... ’s pathway to reelection appeared to shrink.
It also comes as former prime minister Saad Hariri ...Second son of Rafik Hariri, the Leb PM who was assassinated in 2005. He has was prime minister in his own right from 2009 through early 2011. He was born in Riyadh to an Iraqi mother and graduated from Georgetown University. He managed his father's business interests in Riyadh until his father's assassination. When his father died he inherited a fortune of some $4.1 billion, which won't do him much good if Hizbullah has him bumped off, too.... is struggling to form a new government in Lebanon, which has been hit by the worst economic and financial crisis in its modern history.
Bassil has held several high-level posts in the Lebanese government, serving as the minister of telecommunications, energy and water and as foreign minister at various intervals over the past two decades. He also heads the Free Patriotic Movement Despite its name a Christian party allied with Hizbullah, neither free nor particularly patriotic... , the Christian party founded by Aoun.
The Treasury designation described him as being "at the forefront of corruption" in Lebanon, accusing him of being involved in approving several projects that would have steered Lebanese government funds to individuals close to him through a group of front companies, while minister of energy in 2014.
Bassil was targeted under the Magnitsky Act, passed by Congress in 2012 initially in response to the death of Russian lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, who died in prison after exposing a tax fraud scheme involving Russian officials. The law named after him was expanded and allows the US to target any foreigner accused of human rights One man's rights are another man's existential threat. violations.
