Russia, Tajikistan troops hold joint drills near Afghanistan's border
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Russian and Tajik troops conducted joint drills Friday near Tajikistan's border with Afghanistan, as part of efforts to prepare for possible security threats issuing from Afghanistan.

The exercises at the Momirak firing range about 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of the Afghan border involved armored vehicles and helicopter gunships. It was part of weeklong war games that brought together about 5,000 troops and over 700 armored vehicles from Russia, Tajikistan and several other ex-Soviet nations, which are members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, a Moscow-dominated security pact.

Tajik Defense Minister Sherali Mirzo said the drills were decided amid the "catastrophic changes after the withdrawal of the international coalition" from Afghanistan.

"Terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan ... have obtained many modern weapons, significantly improved their positions and using the current situation create conditions for its transformation into a foothold for further destructive actions in the region," Mirzo added.

Russian officials said they trusted the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
’s pledge that they wouldn’t threaten neighboring countries, but noted that the ISIS group, al-Qaeda and other Lions of Islam in northern Afghanistan could try to destabilize the neighboring ex-Soviet Central Asian nations. They also said drug trafficking from Afghanistan will continue to present a challenge.

Moscow has vowed to provide military assistance to its ex-Soviet allies in Central Asia to help counter possible threats and held a series of joint drills in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, which neighbor Afghanistan.

Russia has a military base in Tajikistan, its largest military outpost in the former Soviet Union. It also maintains an air base in Kyrgyzstan, and jets based there took part in this week’s war games.

Lt. Gen. Yevgeniy Poplavsky, deputy commander of the Russian armed forces’ Central Military District who oversaw the drills, described them as part of training to counter possible security challenges.

The fighting between the Taliban and the ISIS in northern Afghanistan raised fears of ISIS fighters and other Lions of Islam flowing into Central Asian nations.

"(The Taliban) will try to push all pro-ISIS military groups out its territory or to destroy them and to become the only one (in power)," Poplavsky said. "That’s why we don’t exclude the option that they will push them to Tajikistan’s territory."

The Soviet Union fought a 10-year war in Afghanistan that ended with its troops withdrawing in 1989. In recent years, Russia has made a strong diplomatic comeback as an influential power broker on Afghanistan, hosting several rounds of talks with various Afghan factions.

Russia had worked for years to establish contacts with the Taliban, even though it designated the group a terror organization in 2003 and never took it off the list, unlike many other countries, it hasn’t evacuated its embassy in Kabul after they took over the Afghan capital in August.

On Wednesday, Russia hosted another round of talks that involved the Taliban along with senior diplomats from China, Pakistain, Iran, India and the former Soviet nations in Central Asia.

Speaking during a panel with international foreign policy experts on Thursday, Russian President Vladmir Putin said that the international community "is getting close" to officially recognizing the Taliban as the new rulers of Afghanistan, saying the decision must be made by the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
. He emphasized the need for the Taliban to recognize the interests of all Afghan ethnic groups and respect human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
, but noted its efforts to combat the ISIS group and other krazed killers.

Russian Duma prepares to put the wood to Big IT
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] In Russia, the regulatory framework for digital platforms wishing to take over the functions of the state has already been prepared, said State Duma Deputy Anton Gorelkin (United Russia), commenting on the speech of Russian President Vladimir Putin .

"The President is right: attempts by digital platforms to take over the functions of the state, to influence political life in different countries will be severely suppressed. Each state will find its own way to put global Internet companies in their place, to force them to conduct a civilized dialogue - and not to dictate conditions. In Russia, the necessary regulatory framework has already been prepared and can be used at any time," Gorelkin said in the Telegram channel.

The parliamentarian still hopes that there will be no reason to turn on these mechanisms at full capacity.

"Compulsion to dialogue is not Russian know-how, and Vladimir Vladimirovich (Putin) also spoke about this yesterday. I do not think that digital giants will organize their activities in our country in any special way, and I hope that the joint efforts of states will lead to a radical rethinking of their role in this world by bigtech, ”he said.

#1  Russia is a troubled society that nonetheless continues to move upward.

We were a largely peaceful and prosperous society that is now swiftly declining in nearly every aspect of governance and social cohesion.

Russian longevity and fertility are increasing. Ours are declining. The Russian military is getting stronger and Russia's influence in the world is steadily increasing. Our military is increasingly hollowed out by political virtue signaling and careerism, and our influence in Asia and Europe is now waning.

We're going down. They're going up.
Perhaps we and Russia will meet in the middle at some point.

#3  At some point the flow of talented scientists, expert mathematicians and engineers from places like Russia to the US will dry up.

Why take a $300k a year job in Silicon Valley if more than half is commandeered by an incompetent and corrupt political elite that funds illegals, tells your kids they're racist deplorables, subjects them to Tranny story hour and Heather Has 17 Genders, unleashes dudes-in-a-dress invading and committing rapes in the little girls' bathroom -- and then denies them admission to top universities ten years later in favor of Wakandan and other favored race-spawn whose math and writing skills are below those of a Russian 12 year-old?

We got lucky. Our tech and economic prowess was built with the help of brilliant Jewish and other immigrants fleeing their homelands' devastation in the last century.

This century we won't be so lucky.

Well, we had a good run, didn't we?

Putin said the Bolsheviks were destroying values. But who raised the winners?
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

If you read the Russian literature for WWII you will note one of the great overarching themes was the promises, made by the Communist Party of the Soviet Union through the political instructors, of the granting of freedom following the war.

Not more Bolshevik bullshit, but freedom. That promise made at the front will cause any man to reexamine what his current society is and what it promises. Decisions good and bad can spring from those promises.

And the political instructors may have promised freedom, what soldiers got were promises that their family would suffer at the hands of the state as well as they, should run afoul of the state, headed by Bolsheviks.

My fictional reading of WWII Russian literature is limited to Vasily Grossman, who was a loyal correspondent for the soviet Communists.

[REGNUM] The main burden of the Great Patriotic War was borne by the generations born in 1905 to 1925, and this could not have happened if they had been brought up in an unhealthy society, noted REGNUM columnist Mikhail Demurin on Friday, October 22, commenting on the statements of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

As previously reported, during his speech at a meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club, Putin said that the West is now experiencing the same thing that Russia went through 100 years ago .

"The Bolsheviks after the 1917 revolution, relying on the dogmas of Marx and Engels, also announced that they would change the entire customary way, not only political and economic, but also the very idea of what human morality is, the foundations of a healthy society. The destruction of age-old values, faith, relations between people up to the complete rejection of the family - this was the case - the imposition and encouragement of denunciations to loved ones - all this was declared a step of progress and, by the way, in the world it was widely supported then and was fashionable, just like and today," said Putin .

"The history of our country in the first third of the XX century, especially the period after 1917, requires deep comprehension and understanding, free anti-communist opportunism. Vladimir Putin says that the Bolsheviks declared that 'they will change the whole habitual way, not only political and economic, but also the very idea of what human morality is, the foundations of a healthy existence of society.'

According to him, values and faith were destroyed in the USSR of the first post-revolutionary decade.

In this regard, I will ask a few questions. Was this Russian society at the turn of the 20th century healthy? Was it Anna Karenina's 'healthy family?' Or most of Chekhov's heroes?

Maxim Gorky showed us many completely unhealthy Russian families ... And the presence of harems among Russian landowners before the reform - did the reforms of the 1860s immediately improve their morals? The position of women in peasant families of that period is not just prosperous - it is difficult to call it bearable - read Leskov!

Or, for example, the memories of his childhood, Marshal Zhukov.

This is what the Bolsheviks wanted to change and they did change! They put both a Russian woman, and even more so women on the national outskirts of Russia, on a worthy place in society. And, accordingly, they improved the family.

By the way, it's worth thinking about this. The main burden of the Great Patriotic War was borne by the generations born in 1905-1925. A huge number of them gave their lives for their homeland, massively showed heroism and self-sacrifice.

If they were brought up in an unhealthy society, a society in which values are destroyed, there is no faith, relations between people are undermined, how could this be? Is that how they would behave at the front and in the rear?" Mikhail Demurin noted.
