[DAWN] The United States and the Taliban ...Arabic for students... officials resumed talks in Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi... on Thursday to firm up a deal enabling the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan in return for the Taliban security guarantees, the Taliban and senior US official said.
After 18 years of war and months of direct talks with the Taliban leaders, the US appears to be at the cusp of reaching a deal that could allow a pullout of foreign forces followed by a ceasefire between the warring sides.
Two Taliban spokesmen said the ninth round of talks between the US and the Taliban representatives started on Thursday evening, and a senior US official privy to the peace negotiations said the "crucial meeting iron out smaller details had begun" in Qatar's capital city, Doha.

They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there.... In an act of defiance against New Delhi's controversial decision to withdraw occupied Kashmir's special status and integrate it fully into India, Soura neighbourhood on the outskirts of Srinagar has sealed itself off from security forces.
Since early August, residents have erected ramshackle barricades of tin sheets, wooden logs, oil tanks and concrete pillars, and dug trenches to keep soldiers at bay amid daily protests against India.
"They can only enter Soura over our bodies. We won't give even an inch of land to India," Mufeed, a resident who volunteers to guard the neighbourhood at night, told AFP.
"Just like Gaza is resisting Israel, we will fight for our motherland with all our might," Mufeed added.

If I understand correctly when partition happened the leadership of Kashmir wanted India but the bulk of the population was/is Muslim. Is that correct? I favor India and think Kashmir is better off as part of India but it seems their claim isn't all that great.
Long ago India should have granted Kashmir and Punjab as independent/allies to act as buffer states between Pakistan and India.
If they did that Baluchistan would have wanted to join up as well and the Punjab in Pakistan might have preferred joining Punjab state. Pakistan would have spent all her time keeping things together and India would have had a number of small states on their border.
Of course the risk is that some other parts of India might have wanted to go independent as well but I *think* the rest of India is pretty solid.

Ruprecht, at the time of partition even Pakistan was 24% hindus. The kingdom of Kashmir, ruled by a hindu Rajah was never formally colonized and retained it's status. There were as many hindus in Kashmir as muslims. Besides, the culture of the region was more on the lines of the Sufi mysticism and a peaceful cohesion of hinduism and islam Yes. Unbelievable but it was just so.
During partition, most of the sunni muslims from northern Indian states (not Kashmir) were the ones who went and settled in Pakistain. There was a genocide and the exodus of millions of non-muslims from the new islamic republic.
Kashmir was yet independent and did not wish to cede to either nation, but Pakistain attacked them to annex it in the first Kashmir War . India had to assist and hold the bloody place without any final resolution until the tiresome king was dead. After that there were more hindus and sikhs in Kashmir than muslims for a while.
It wasn't until the late 70s and through the 80s that Pakistain, well funded and emboldened by the CIA's largesse during Op Cyclone a poorly written love affair which started with Carter began their adventure with supporting jihad outside their shithole. They began a bloodbath and covert replacement of the population of Kashmir, killing and chasing out hindus, christians and sikhs they infiltrated salafi muslims and militant clans in the valley.
By 1989, there were no more non-muslims in Kashmir. By the late 90s there were burnt christian schools, shariah enforcers, terror schools, the works. The aim of Pakistain was to try to destabilize and take India piecemeal, using means and resources achieved through the never-ending western aid supply. Lest you wonder what we were doing with our thumbs up our asses all this while, India was under weak leftist, liberal Govts all those years - the same jig of diversity, appeasement, corruption, incompetence.
So that's the concise history of the current demographic.

Glenmore, I believe the problem herein lies in the leftist liberal model of diplomacy and domestic power. It is not based on fraternity or global brotherhood or welcoming all or some shit like that. It's a lazy strategy of building supports by appeasing minorities like muslims. They think that the poor fucker from the third world can be always be controlled. Just why they were the party to feature black slavery.
To their way of thinking, these things can be weaponized, to wreak havoc on classical conservative edifices, for them to move in and change status quo on everything hard working people have worked for. A fresh start after sacking Alexandria by unleashing sasquatches on it. They partner up with such things only for convenience's sake. And good men and women have to pay the price for their follies. Islamic jihad wouldn't be jack-shit today if not for the American deepState actors repeatedly putting their trust behind such things. If it were not for traitors in exceedingly liberal societies, an idiot entity like islam wouldn't stand a chance in the modern world.

It's only Pakistain that obsesses about India. It has no hopes of anything beyond savage survival and murdering Indians if it can. I believe we shall see the dissolution of Pakistain in our lifetimes now. It's nothing.
The real danger is the deeply infected EU islamists, salafists and anti-semites in the UN. And muslims in the US Government. Everybody knows if the US falls, everything else is easy from there.
[THEBAGHDADPOST] OPEC’s share of the global oil market has sunk to 30%, the lowest in years, as a result of supply restraint and involuntary losses in Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... and Venezuela ...a country in Central America that sits on an enormous pool of oil. Formerly the most prospereous country in the region, it became infested with Commies sniffing almost unlimited wealth. It turned out the wealth wasn't unlimited, the economy collapsed under the clownish Hugo Chavez, the murder rate exceeds places like Honduras and El Salvador, and a significant proportion of the populace as refugeed to Colombia and points south... , and there is little sign yet producers are wavering on their output-cut strategy.
Crude oil from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries made up 30% of world oil supply in July 2019, down from more than 34% a decade ago and a peak of 35% in 2012, according to OPEC data.
Despite OPEC-led supply cuts, oil LCOc1 has tumbled from April’s 2019 peak above $75 a barrel to $60, pressured by slowing economic activity amid concerns about the U.S.-China trade dispute and Brexit.
The decline in prices, should it persist, and erosion of market share could raise the question of whether continued supply restraint is serving producers’ best interests.
Not keen on being forced into a war with Israel, no doubt. See here for details.
[IsraelTimes] Head of Popular Mobilization Forces says his deputy was voicing his own opinion in blaming Jerusalem and DC for recent attacks on its bases.
The head of Iraq’s paramilitary Shiite forces, supported by Iran, appeared Thursday to walk back a statement made by his deputy, who blamed Israeli drones and said the US was responsible for a series of attacks on bases run by the militia.
Faleh al-Fayyadh said that the Wednesday statement by his deputy, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, didn’t represent the view of the mainly Shiite paramilitary group known as Popular Mobilization Forces ‐ or that of the Iraqi government.
Al-Fayyadh’s statement alleged the attacks on the bases over the past weeks "were the result of an act organized by a foreign side," without naming that side.
The statement highlighted divisions within the Popular Mobilization Forces, which is mostly run by the deputy, al-Muhandis, a military commander known for his anti-American sentiments.
The rare statement by al-Muhandis had said the group had accurate information showing the US brought in four Israeli drones this year to work as part of the US fleet in Iraq and target militia positions in Iraq.
"We announce that the United States is ultimately responsible for what happened and we will hold it responsible for what will happen as of today. We have no choice but to defend ourselves and our bases with the weapons at our disposal," said the statement.
The conflicting statements came after an Iraqi government report obtained by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named on Wednesday said a massive explosion at a munitions depot run by an Iranian-backed militia near Baghdad last week was caused by a dronezap. The report outlined the conclusions of a fact-finding committee ordered by the government to investigate the August 12 explosion at the al-Saqr military base.
It said the blast was caused by a dronezap that sparked a huge fire and ruled out earlier suggestions that it was caused by an electrical short circuit or faulty storage of munitions that allowed them to overheat in sweltering summer temperatures.
The blast at the al-Saqr, or "Falcon," base killed one civilian, maimed 28 and damaged nearby homes, echoing across Baghdad. The base houses a weapons depot for the Iraqi federal police and the mainly Shiite militias known as the Popular Mobilization Forces. The state-sanctioned militias, most of which receive backing from Iran, have fought alongside Iraq’s regular armed forces against the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... group.
The report did not say who the drone belonged to.
Al-Saqr was among a string of explosions that hit militia bases and munitions depots over the past several weeks. The deadliest, a July 19 blast, was blamed on a drone that hit a base in Amirli, northern Iraq, killing two Iranians and causing a huge fire. The most recent explosion came on Tuesday night, at a base north of Baghdad.
Speculation among media and officials as to who is behind the earth-shattering kabooms has ranged among a number of possible perpetrators, including Israel, the United States or rival Iraqi factions.
An American official said the US has no evidence or credible intelligence that Israel was behind the two most recent blasts ‐ on Tuesday or on August 12. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about the issue.
Faleh al-Fayyadh, who also serves as the government's national security adviser, issued the statement after an emergency meeting with Prime Minister Adel Abdel Mahdi late on Wednesday.
"Preliminary investigations" found the incidents were "an external, premeditated act," he said.
"The investigations will continue until the responsible entities are accurately identified to be able to take the appropriate stances."
Just hours earlier, the Hashed's deputy commander Abu Mehdi al-Muhandis, whose virulent anti-Americanism as a militia leader earned him a U.S. terror blacklisting, had been unequivocal in blaming Washington.
[IsraelTimes] An Israeli satellite imaging firm releases images of an Iraqi munitions depot that was targeted by a mystery explosion that was blamed on an Israel dronezap.
The before and after images analyzed and distributed by ImageSat International show heavy damage at the Balad airbase north of Baghdad.
ISI says the base appeared to have been targeted in an Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... , triggering a kaboom. A second blast was triggered when the munitions storage rooms caught on fire
We know that the US is planning new attacks on Iraqi bases by doing it themselves or by the Israelis. We warn them that all their bases are in the range of our rockets and all their bases and defenses will not be able to protect them
Principles are expensive. The PA, which doesn’t get donations from generous terror-supporting entities like Iran, simply can’t afford them anymore.
[IsraelTimes] PA to take in around NIS 2 billion in money from fuel taxes while Ramallah attempts to deal with shortfalls amid dispute over terror payouts.
The Paleostinian Authority, in deep financial trouble since February over a tax crisis, said Thursday it had accepted a partial payment of just over half a billion dollars after reaching an agreement with Israel.
"An agreement was reached a few days ago with the Israeli side for transferring duties on oil and fuel which the Paleostinian Authority bought in Israel to the amount of around two billion shekels ($568 million)," Civil Affairs Minister Hussein al-Sheikh told AFP.

“They aren’t going to pay us what they owe anyway, so let’s call it goodwill.”
[IsraelTimes] Israel and the Paleostinian Authority agreed to exempt the Paleostinians from paying taxes on fuel, senior PA official Hussein al-Sheikh tweets.
The agreement, if implemented, is likely to give the PA considerable economic relief as it confronts a major financial crisis.
Sheikh, however, says that the deal does not mark the conclusion of the PA’s current financial woes.
"This does not mean the financial crisis is over. Billions that belong to us are still being held by Israel," Sheikh says.
[DAWN] Iran's president struck a muscular tone on dealings with the US, saying Thursday that "talks are useless" as Tehran's nuclear deal with world powers crumbles further.
President Hassan Rouhani ...Iran's moderate president, which he is, relative to his predecessor, which doesn't mean he's anything but a puppet of the nearest holy man... made the comment in a speech in Tehran during the unveiling of the Bavar-373, a long-range surface-to-air missile system that he described as an improvement to the Russian S-300.
"Now that our enemies do not accept logic, we cannot respond with logic," Rouhani said in the televised speech.
He added: "When the enemy launches a missile against us, we cannot give a speech and say: 'Mr. Rocket, please do not hit our country and our innocent people. Rocket-launching sir, if you can please hit a button and self-destroy the missile in the air.'"
On Wednesday, Iran's state TV reported that the Bavar-373 is able to recognise up to 100 targets at a same time and confront them with six different weapons.

Hardliners on both sides, no surprise talks are fruitless. US wants regime change in Iran, which will surely fix the problem. Just like it did when the US endorsed regime change in 1979, and the CIA coup that overthrew Iran's democratic government in the 1950s. One more regime change will surely do it!

[THEBAGHDADPOST] The Appeals Court has upheld a preliminary court verdict against a former supporter of the Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for disseminating dissident information.
Based on the new ruling, the civil activist and retired university lecturer in the city of Mashhad, Kamal Jafari Yazdi, should serve a minimum of ten years of his thirteen-year sentence.
A judge in the northeastern city of Mashhad had initially sentenced Jafari Yazdi in April to ten years in prison for "forming an illegal group against national security," two years for "insulting the Supreme Leader," and one year for "propaganda against the regime."
In an interview with radio Farda August 20, Mr. Yazdi confirmed the Appeals Court decision about his sentence. He read out the charges that include interviews with foreign based "hostile media". This term applies to Persian-language broadcasters such as Radio Farda and the BBC.
In July, Jafari Yazdi joined thirteen other Iranian activists who signed a letter calling on Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to step down and pave the way for a new political order to replace Iran.
On August 10 the co-signatories of the letter showed up at the court in Mashhad to express solidarity with Yazdi and they were arrested. There are now on hunger strike.
Iranian law allows courts to sentence citizens to prison for the simple act of creating online groups, pages or channels, as well as for their personal online posts.

Based on the "double-urgency" motion, all immediate relatives of the Iranian officials residing abroad, including their spouses and children, should return to Iran, the front man of parliament’s influential Commission for National Security and Foreign policy, Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said.
"Iranian officials with family abroad will be given three months to bring back their immediate relatives to the country. Otherwise, they should step down from their positions," the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)-run Tasnim news agency cited Naqavi Hosseini as saying on Sunday, August 18.
Meanwhile, ...back at the alley, Slats grabbed for his rosco... according to Naqavi Hosseini, the students and university lecturers with the Ministry of Science scholarship, as well as foreign-based babus government employees will be excluded from the new restriction.
The case of top Iranian managers with dual citizenship and their immediate relatives living abroad initially emerged in 2011 when the Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of Bank Melli, Mahmoud Reza Khavari fled Iran after being allegedly involved in a $2.6 billion embezzlement scandal. Khavari joined his family, who were already living in Canada.
Furthermore, the chairman of the Nuclear Subcommittee of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of parliament, Mojtaba Zonnour claimed in July 2018 that President Hassan Rouhani's son had British and Canadian nationality. A Rouhani aide immediately dismissed the claim as unfounded and "disgraceful."
[IsraelTimes] Mark Esper confirms reports the late Osama bin Laden ...... who is now neither a strong horse nor a weak horse, but a dead horse...... ’s 15th son and heir as head of jihadist group was killed in the past two years in US-aided operation.
US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper has confirmed the death of Hamza bin Laden, the son and designated heir of al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden.
"That’s my understanding," Esper said in an interview late Wednesday with Fox News, when asked if Hamza bin Laden was dead.
"I don’t have the details on that. And if I did I’m not sure how much I could share with you," he added.
A pretty tepid confirmation...
US media reported at the beginning of August that bin Laden was killed during the last two years in an operation that involved the United States, citing US intelligence officials.
But US President Donald Trump ...The tack in the backside of the Democratic Party... and other bigwigs have refused to confirm or deny it publicly.
"I don’t want to comment on it," Trump told news hounds when asked.
The 15th of Osama bin Laden’s 20 children and a son of his third wife, Hamza, thought to be about 30 years old, was "emerging as a leader in the al-Qaeda franchise," the State Department has said.
Sometimes dubbed the "crown prince of jihad," he had put out audio and video messages calling for attacks on the United States and other countries, especially to avenge his father’s killing by US forces in Pakistain in May 2011, the department has said.
That work made him important in attracting a new generation of followers to the hard boy group which carried out the September 11, 2001 attacks on the US which left some 3,000 dead.
