The directional antennae on the device scans a building or home for WiFi connections. Aircheck can tell if a network is open or password-protected, then pinpoint the person who handled the suspected
content. That way, police can confidently identify their suspects and make a quick arrest.
Officers with the Martinez Police Department in California say Aircheck makes all the difference.
"It provides us and additional layer of certainty that the person we are targeting is, in fact, the suspect that we are looking for," said Sgt. Dave Mathers. "We don't have to go in blindly anymore."
Prior to Aircheck, police struggled when anonymous users
piggy-backed on someone else's WiFi signal, making it hard to trace the crime. The device now gives investigators a way to sort through the variables, and hunt down the suspects.
"Police have found that they are able to pick this tool up, and within minutes, they know how to use it, and they know how to use it effectively," said Mark Bauman of Fluke Networks.
This device can also be used against unpopular crime #1, trendy crime #2 and even online annoying crime #3.
Edited to remove 5 different references to "Child Pr0n", that were obviously added to distract from the basic fact that this is warrantless, probably random, police monitoring of private, short range communications channels, most of which are intended for use within a single building. And no mention as to whether this will only be legal for sale to police organizations.
Someone has come up with a bit of kit (probably expensive) that does the same job of finding a wi-fi users MAC address (as a small PC with a packet sniffer).

After detecting others trying to access my home Wifi, I moved on to this system recommended by the Intaprof. It works for me and provides physical security against intrusion.

They probably spent millions for something I downloaded last year for free. It's called Backtrack. Also Cain and able - both do the same thing as aircheck.
I had the ability to do this a year ago. Makes me wonder how far behind LEO is with this stuff.

May I assume that if I'm using WPA2 with a robust password that my home WiFi network is secure?
I told a customer once that wireless networks are inherently insecure because the data packets being transmitted are over the airwaves, and anyone can grab them with the right equipment, and if they can grab your data, encrypted or not, they can crack it.
I bet what this Aircheck product does is just that: grabs the data being transmitted, cracks the data headers just enough to grab the gateway outbound interface IP and the NIC code of the interface, and then attempts to guess the inside gateway IP. From there it's a simple scan to map out the network...
[Daily Nation (Kenya)] An outspoken former Gambian ... The Gambia is actually surrounded by Senegal on all sides but its west coast. It has a population of about 1.7 million. The difference between the two is that in colonial days Senegal was ruled by La Belle France and The Gambia (so-called because there's only one of it, unlike Guinea) was ruled by Britannia... minister of information is being held in one of the country's jails after the police denied knowledge of his whereabouts in June.
Justice ministry officials have conceded that Mr Amadou Scattred Jannenh was being held in jail awaiting trial for treason and sedition.
The US-trained journalist was placed in long-term storage in June after President Yahya Jammeh sacked him from the ministerial post in 2006 after he formed the civil society movement he named 'Coalition for Change'.
Mr Janneh had insisted that the movement intends to pave the way for a political dialogue that could lead to democratic governance in the country.
The military-turned-civilian dictatorship of Jammeh which is known for its frequent abuse of human rights ...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions... rose against the movement and placed in long-term storage its leader since June.
Mr Janneh is being jugged along with an unspecified number of his stalwarts while several others including two journalists, Ndey Sosseh and Matthew Jallow have decamped the country and are being pursued.
While in prison, the former minister has been cross examined by the High Court in Banjul and sources say a judgment for the charges of treason and sedition has been adjourned to October this year.
The 48-year-old communication expert and who also holds an American nationality was reportedly seized by coppers in mufti and taken to an unknown destination.
During his tenure as minister, he was reputed for his public condemnation of the frequent disappearances of critics of the ruling regime.

From what i watched in UK the majority of roiters and looters in London and Birmingam were blacks with some whites involved in the looting.
In Manchester and Liverpool mixture of black and white youth. Both Blacks and Whites are from Council house estates and dont like pakis!

Some clarity is critical in this case.
The "blacks" are Caribbean, not African, blacks. The "Asian" rioters are almost exclusively Pakistani. And the vast majority of "white" rioters are several generation welfare roll, what in the US would be called "trailer trash", with a smattering of disaffected middle and even upper class yobs.
Likewise, it's important to distinguish those who fought *against* the rioters, when the police failed to do so.
These groups included Indian Sikhs, defending their temple, Turkish Muslims, defending their mosque, and orderly groups of Hindus and whites defending their property as well as the English Defense League, who defended any good citizens against rioters, but got zero positive mention by the British press.
The best statement was from an EDL leader, who said, "The police were unable, and the government was unwilling to control the rioters."

Most of the 15 photos at the link are of burning buildings. Only two show rioters, and only one shows a recognizable rioter.

I understand your thought "Caribbean" blacks originally came from?". When it is to their advantage they are African. To many you have insulted them should you refer to them as African.
It would be like calling a Spaniard Latino. I would never ever suggest to my Puerto Rico friend that he was African. I wanted to put another ever in that. Media has painted a fine picture but the truth you learn among people.

BEIJING - The country's first aircraft carrier finished its maiden sea trial on Sunday and returned to port in Dalian, Northeast China's Liaoning province, domestic media reported.
At about 10:30 am, the carrier, which was known as the "Varyag" when at the Black Sea Shipyard in Ukraine, broke through a thick fog and appeared about 3 kilometers east of the docks of the Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co Ltd, which refitted the giant ship, according to the Beijing-based Mirror Evening News. At least seven tugboats guided the vessel to the dock, the report said.
Naval officers on the deck were seen "leisurely strolling", it added. The aircraft carrier sounded its horn three times as it approached the shipyard, exactly as it did when departing on Wednesday.
Early media reports cited unidentified military sources as saying that the vessel is supposed to be handed over to the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy around Aug 1 next year, which will be the PLA's 85th anniversary.

While I shutter to think of a Chine with a carrier, I don't think they are quite ready for operations. It's not a plug-n-play, it takes a while to train up the crew and especially the pilots.
#3
Don't discount them. They have a strategy and they are executing it. Getting the Varyag and an air wing operational is just another milestone in the strategy.
The Chinese have all sorts of problems and disadvantages: their economy is built on sand, they have demographic stresses, and of course, their leaders are a bunch of corrupt commies. But for all their problems, I'm betting that most Chinese citizens support the overall strategy.
China plans to be the pre-eminent world power of the 21st century in the way the U.S. was in the 20th and Britain was in the 19th. That's the strategy.

I have to give China + PLA credit - as per ASYMMETRIC WARFARE, espec "BATTLESPACE MGT" + "MOTHERSHIPS", they're trying to see iff the VARYAG CVT = FUTURE CARRIER FORCE can possess powerful LR land-attack, naval attack, + BMD capabilities, etc. that normally would be on non-Carrier Surface Warfare units.
PLA ARSENAL/FIRE SHIPS WID SU-33'S + J10's.
The Russians likely have the same idea but under their proposal earlier this year to refurbish the KIROVS = COLD WAR "KIROV"-CLASS BATTLECRUISERS [Helos, VTOL] - IIRC, it was VLAD PUTIN that called for the construction of 2-4 new KIROVS???
No, really. He uses as an example a pending alien invasion, and all of the government spending that would be needed to counter the threat. The kicker: If the threat doesnt materialize, all of the wasted money on the alien invasion will somehow be good for the economy. So Bushs borrowing to fight wars in Iraq and Afghanistan caused the mess, but a fake military buildup will get us out?
Greetings, Earth-humans. Take us to your Federal Reserve Board, or we will disintegrate you.

If aliens attacked [see Independence Day], I don't see a national government too worried about Social Security, Medicare, Departments of Education, the Environmental Protection Agency, etc, etc, etc. Seems most of the government spending and debt problems will disappear except in the one Department, the likes of which Mr Krugman's fellow travelers always cut, Defense.

After all, the Koran does theologically affirm from the very mouth of the Prophet (PBUH) himself that all Jews are cursed apes and pigs.
Ever notice that Moslems like to get old people who are unarmed social workers when they can? Mostly they stay away from the US Marines. Fallujah was full of Moslems who rotted in the patios or bloated half out the second story window so they necessitated being collected and thrown in the basement over on Zarquawi street until there was a fly problem with all the dead shahids down there. So finally the Marines just bulldozed the whole place over and smoothed it all out after a ton of Lye was dumped in there first ( to hasten things along)....and then they let in the Press who said the war couldnt be won.
What was the score for Shahids against Marines in Fallujah. You dont hear much about Fallujah anymore in the news do you?( for some reason).
Dont tell me that killing people doesnt settle things. The graveyards in Stuttgart should have taught you that.
Moslems just love to find an 80 year old ( preferably in a wheelchair) unarmed Jew.
Makes their day. Its about the Moslem speed to get old unarmed jews but stay away from USMarines.

Potentially important to the US: Ms. Gandhi is the leader of the Congress Party in India and thus a very influential stateswoman. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi was on Friday recovering in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a US hospital where she underwent successful surgery for an undisclosed ailment.
The party today issued a brief statement that 64-year-old Gandhi underwent a surgery on August 4 and the surgeon has indicated that the surgery has been successful. At present, Gandhi is in ICU, a statement by Congress general secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said.
However, the statement did not disclose what was the surgery and the hospital and the country where it was performed.
Gandhi is reportedly in the US for the surgery. Children Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and son-in-law Robert Vadra are with Gandhi, the party said.
Gandhi had decided that in her absence a group comprising Rahul Gandhi and senior leaders AK Antony, Ahmed Patel and Dwivedi will look after party affairs. Significance is attached to the fact that Rahul will form part of the of the committee that has only one senior minister of the government and two leaders from the organisation.
Asked to explain the absence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and finance minister Pranab Mukherjee from the group, Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari had said on Thursday they (the Prime Minister and finance minister) are senior members who have been active in the organisation for long.

ABOARD THE USS GEORGE WASHINGTON: Less than a week after China launched its first aircraft carrier, the US has showed off its own big-boy supercarrier to former enemy Vietnam. The visit comes as smaller Asian nations become more jittery amid Beijings burgeoning maritime ambitions.
Rather amazing when you think about it. Nothing like a nasty neighbor to make a country to turn to a former enemy. Too bad Kissinger never thought to try this.
A delegation of Vietnamese military and government officials was treated to a tour aboard the USS George Washington nuclear carrier this weekend. They flew out to the vessel, which was off the coast of southern Vietnam once home to the US-backed capital of South Vietnam during the brutal Vietnam War.
Its the second such visit to the US Navys carrier in as many years and a symbol of the former foes warming military ties. But Saturdays visit also came amid heated tensions between China and its Asian neighbors.

I remember reading some of the Navy carrier pilot POWs commenting that their interrogators usually demanded to know where all the livestock were kept on the carriers.
Wonder if they went looking around for them?
#2
I think they have good reason. The Chinese have been eyeing Vietnam for history, they tout a major win back in the days of swords and most recently in the late 70's when, IIUC correctly in a nutshell, the Chinese thought Vietnam owed them something and the Vietnamese told them to piss off.
I'm sure if the olde guard, if they would speak in honest, would point out in general the firepower, spirit, and humanity of the US forces.
I guess the Vietnamese are Vietnamese before they are communists. Bit of a thumb in the eye of internationalist theory IMHO.
#3
Almost all of Vietnam north of the old DMZ was part of a Chinese-led kingdom several hundred years ago, and the Chinese have been making noises about that sector being part of the 'lost' sections of China like they did with Hong Kong, Macau, Tibet, the chunk of India that they took, and Taiwan. Plus, the Chinese are claiming all of the Spratley Islands, including those that traditionally have been considered Vietnamese. The reason for the Islands' claim is that there is the possibility of an oil field larger than that in the North Sea under them.

Chimericawar.org argues that Vietnam will be objective number 1 in China's drive to regain its historical boundaries.
Note that when I say "objective number 1", I don't mean "most important objective". What I mean is that for political and tactical reasons, Vietnam is merely the first item on a long checklist.

Cam Rahn Bay would be useful now that Subic Bay is gone; and the Vietnamese are exporting everything they can to the US, and inviting back all of the Vietnamese that left the country when the Communists took over. Plus, since the area that the Vietnamese will most likely be fighting the Chinese in is mainly jungle-covered mountains and the open bay next to Hanoi, the Vietnamese could be sold a lot of the older US military surplus and it would work well in those conditions.
