[NYPOST] Embattled FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh is quitting her $243,171-a-year post, she told The Post Saturday.
The stunning development comes amid a slew of controversies that left some members of Mayor Adams’ administration questioning her ability to lead the country’s largest fire department.
Kavanagh, who Adams tapped as the city’s first female fire commissioner in 2022, said in an email to The Post she feels it’s "time for me to pass the torch" and explore other career opportunities. She plans to stay on the job for now and help pick a replacement, Kavanagh wrote.
"My dedication to the FDNY has never and will never waver," she wrote. "It has been the honor of a lifetime to devote the last 10 years — five as first deputy commissioner and more than two as commissioner — to advocating for the men and women of the FDNY.

Priorities: Kavanagh, who began her career working campaigns for ex-President Barack Obama, ex-Mayor Bill de Blasio and other Democrats, has dealt with a series of public relations nightmares since Adams named her commissioner, in part to tackle the department’s longtime struggle to diversify.

[JustTheNews] A now-deleted Facebook post by a staffer of Mississippi's lone Democrat congressman appeared to support the attempted liquidation of former President Donald Trump ...His ancestors didn't own any slaves... on Saturday.
The deleted post by Jacqueline Marsaw, a field director for U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Mississippi, said "I don't condone violence but please get you some shooting lessons so you don't miss next time ooops [sic] that wasn't me talking."
Personnel is policy. And some people like that kind of attitude in their staffers.
The Mississippi Republican Party's X account said Thompson should "FIRE his field director for condoning the attempted liquidation of President @realDonaldTrump !!!" The post also said state Democrats ...every time you hear the phrase white people, white supremacy, white anything but paint, you're listening to a Democrat. Ask him/her/it to reimagine something for you; they do that a lot, though not well. They can hear a dog whistle a mile or two away. They invented the spoils system and Tammany Hall, and inspired the addition of the word (Thomas) Nasty to the English language. They want to stop continental drift and repeal the law of unintended side effects... "must repudiate these despicable statements."
Trump was maimed in the ear and rushed off the stage Saturday at a rally in Butler, Pa. by U.S. Secret Service agents and other law enforcement officers.
In a post to X after the shooting, Thompson said "There is no room in American democracy for political violence. I am grateful for law enforcement’s fast response to this incident. I am glad the former President is safe, and my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved."
Thompson is the author of the Denying Infinite Security and Government Resources Allocated toward Convicted and Extremely Dishonorable Former Protectees Act. House Resolution 8081 would strip Secret Service protection for anyone convicted of a state or federal crime and sentenced to a year or more in prison.

I listened to the Biden address after the assassination- yes it was an assassination not an attempt unless we plan to spoon the brains back into the innocent bystander and are really good at resurrection prayers. Biden said THE IDEA about ten times in a row again like his needle was stuck in a scratch. It reminded me of the time that he told us that ANTIFA was not real and just an IDEA. I wonder if this guy was ever sprung from jail by Kamala’s ANTIFA defense fund.

[Breitbart] Saturday, during CNN’s coverage of an attempt to take the life of former President Donald Trump, CNN contributor Scott Jennings
…Republican strategist and conservative voice on CNN…
told his colleagues the hyperbole from media and Democrats about a potential second presidency has consequences.
“Think about what you just said — we are one inch, one inch from something far more terrible tonight,” Jennings said. “I mean, the country is already shocked, and we are in bad need of healing and unity in this country, but we were one inch from something far worse. Republicans, I’m hearing from tonight, are shocked. They are worried about our country. They are worried about Donald Trump. They’re worried about the rhetoric around Donald Trump. I mean, I hate to say it, but the rhetoric around him over the last few weeks that if he wins an election, our country will end, our democracy will end, it’s the last election that we’ll ever have. These things have consequences, OK?”
“I don’t know what the motivations of the shooter are,” he continued. “I don’t know any of the details, but I know the rhetoric around Trump has grown really extreme. You mentioned some other violence. You didn’t mention the Supreme Court attempted murder of a Supreme Court justice or the congressional baseball game where Steve Scalise was nearly murdered—one a conservative, the other a Republican. But we have people in this country who are dedicated to telling half the country that if Donald Trump wins an election, the country will end, the Constitution will go away and so on and so forth. What I want to hear from all elected officials is this kind of hyperbolic extremism has consequences, and it must end. Yes, we are all shocked. And yes, political violence has no place. Where does it come from? It’s got to stop.”

Yes, the truth has consequences. It’s not a game show. My patience for the CNN folks and the 40 percent of Americans who are leftist morons and support ANTIFA is exhausted. Have whatever federal law enforcement agency that doesn’t report to Wray or Garland sweep up all the ANTIFA militants and put them on ice for 3 years until we figure out what to charge them for.

“The most terrifying force of death comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. The moment the Men who wanted to be left alone are forced to fight back, it is a form of suicide. They are literally killing off who they used to be. Which is why, when forced to take up violence, these Men who wanted to be left alone, fight with unholy vengeance against those who murdered their former lives. They fight with raw hate, and a drive that cannot be fathomed by those who are merely play-acting at politics and terror. TRUE TERROR will arrive at these people’s door, and they will cry, scream, and beg for mercy… but it will fall upon the deaf ears of the Men who just wanted to be left alone.” - Author Unknown.
Sadly, I feel that we are very close to this point.
[IsraelTimes] Meta says it’s rolling back some restrictions that had applied to former US President Donald Trump ...Oh, noze! Not him!... ’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.
The social media company indefinitely suspended Trump’s accounts following his praise of people who stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. The company then reinstated his accounts in early 2023, saying it would monitor Trump’s posts for further violations that could result in another suspension of between one month and two years.
Trump, who is running against US President Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S. I'm not working for you. Don't be such a horse's ass.... , will no longer be subject to the additional monitoring, Meta says.
"In assessing our responsibility to allow political expression, we believe that the American people should be able to hear from the nominees for president on the same basis," Meta says in an updated blog post.
Some social media experts have long criticized Meta and other platforms for failing to moderate political content, including from political candidates.
Trump was also banned from Twitter, now called X, in 2021. Billionaire Elon Musk restored the account shortly after acquiring the company in 2022, though Trump has only posted once since then.

Too little too late. Whatever government entity is dictating censorship needs to be disbanded and all the perps charged with Civil Rights violations.

[National Mining Association, May 16, 2024] The National Mining Association (NMA) today issued the following comments from Rich Nolan, NMA president and CEO, on the U.S. Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) decision to ban new coal leasing in the Powder River Basin. Wyoming, produced over 200 million tons of coal in 2022, almost all used to generate electricity.
"At a time of deteriorating grid reliability, soaring electricity demand and ongoing concern about global energy shocks, proposing a plan of no new coal leasing in the Powder River Basin is outrageous. This damages American energy security and affordability and is a severe economic blow to mining states and communities. The NMA strongly opposes this political move, not only because it ignores the nation’s continued need for federal coal but because it also fails to acknowledge BLM’s multiple use mandate under the Federal Land Policy and Management Act." So it's probably illegal, as well as stoopid. How ya gonna power all those charging stations, Pete?

A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
