Texas to re-patriate state-owned gold from NY & to build its own Fort Knox
12 June 2015: The governor of Texas signed House Bill 483 to establish a state gold bullion depository administered by the Office of the Comptroller. The law will repatriate $1 billion of gold bullion from the Federal Reserve in New York to Texas.
Gov's statement:
Today I signed HB 483 to provide a secure facility for the State of Texas, state agencies and Texas citizens to store gold bullion and other precious metals. With the passage of this bill, the Texas Bullion Depository will become the first state-level facility of its kind in the nation, increasing the security and stability of our gold reserves and keeping taxpayer funds from leaving Texas to pay for fees to store gold in facilities outside our state.

#3  First step to "Nationhood" ?

No...maybe the first step in insuring statehood. $1B USD in gold is still a LOT of gold, and Texas having it under their own lock and key instead of that of the Feds insures that they have the clout to say 'no' about some things:

"We're the Federal Government; do what we say or we cut off X amount of money."

Texas (after checking the vault): "Suck it."

#4  This is also local politics - keep Texas tax money in Texas (instead of paying it to NY bankers).

#5  I see this as not only a move to keep Texas money in Texas, but a hedge bet if the Union comes apart.

#6  also note: State of Texas, state agencies and Texas citizens to store gold bullion and other precious metal.

In case the feds try to revoke the ability to own gold again?

#7  I'm glad to see TEXAS taking such precautionary steps, espec given that the so-called "AMERICAN DREAM" of the last Century will very soon be the OWG GLOBALIST "NORTH AMERICAN/AMERIKAN DREAM" of the 21st Century, wid Mexico + Canada + Greenland all seemingly or ideally getting par responsibilities for NORAM Security + Econ Prosperity, etc. NOT JUST THE US.

Africa North
Chairman: Egypt's New Suez Canal will open on August 6
[Ynet] Egypt's New Suez Canal will open on August 6, the canal authority chairman said on Saturday.

Mohab Mameesh, Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority, also said that the digging and dredging works would conclude on July 15. The new canal will run alongside the existing 145-year-old waterway, part of a multi-billion-dollar project to expand trade along the fastest shipping route between Europe and Asia.
Wiki has a decent, if bland, summary of the project. Originally supposed to take six years (American time, or 60 years Egyptian time), Sisi ordered the project to be done in 1 year (I think that's Chinese time). It started in 2014 and is financed entirely by the Egyptians, who are hiring out the heavy work to furriners. There have been a few, ah, problems along the way. Who would have guessed...

#8  They could carry a fair sized crew beyond normal stations but the ones I saw may have been unpressurized. I almost got a ride out in one, but didn't have hypo qual. Long story, but got stuck on Wake when my CL-44 ride crash landed on landing on Wake (a mostly landing crash). They took pity but the hypo qual lack was a no go. Great people. Gave me great insight into Raf types. Uniforms made from used horse blankets as I recall tho. Saw maybe 12 (or more?) Vulcans land and pick up the other survivors. Beautiful sight. I had to hitch hike off Wake. Which took a while.

#6  Encryption is not magic. It is like a time delay. The better the encryption the more time it takes to get the information. The art of it is to match the appropriate level of difficulty to the importance of keeping the secret.

Since the statute of limitations on charges against Snowden are no where near expired, it looks like he screwed up when he chose his keys.

Sad for him. Worse for us.

China-Japan-Koreas
China conducts fourth test of Wu-14 nuke strike vehicle
China this week carried out the fourth test of an ultra high-speed nuclear delivery vehicle that conducted what intelligence officials say were extreme maneuvers.

The test of the Wu-14 hypersonic strike vehicle was carried out Sunday, launched atop a ballistic missile fired from a test facility in western China.

It was the fourth successful test of the Wu-14 in the past 18 months and the frequency of tests is being viewed by U.S. intelligence analysts as an indicator of the high priority placed on developing the weapon by the Chinese.

Earlier tests took place last year on Jan. 9, Aug. 7, and Dec. 2. The Washington Free Beacon first reported the tests.

The new strike vehicle is considered a high-technology strategic weapon capable of delivering nuclear or conventional warheads while traveling on the edge of space. One of its key features is the ability to maneuver to avoid U.S. missile defenses.

Suspect Killed After Attack On Dallas Police Headquarters
[HOSTED.AP.ORG] A man planted pipe bombs outside of Dallas' police headquarters early Saturday before opening fire on the building and officers who tried to stop him, spraying the building and a squad car with bullets during a wild street battle but injuring no one.

After cornering the fleeing suspect's van in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant in the suburb of Hutchins, a police sniper shot and killed him after it was determined he still posed enough of a threat, police Chief David Brown said.

Authorities said they wouldn't release his identity until a medical examiner had confirmed it. At a news conference before they confirmed his death, Brown said the gunman had identified himself as James Boulware and had said he blamed police for having lost custody of his son and for "accusing him of being a terrorist." He later cautioned that it was possible the suspect didn't give his real name.

Authorities said it was remarkable that no one else was killed or injured in the attack.

According to police, the suspect apparently opened fire on the building from his parked van. Bullets pierced the glass at the entrance and caused damage inside, including at the front desk, where the worker on duty had just gone to get a soft drink.

He also fired on officers who drove up to confront him, riddling squad cars with bullets but not actually hitting anyone. Cellphone video shot from a nearby balcony or roof showed the suspect's dark-colored van ram a squad car as gunshots rang out. The van then fled, eventually stopping in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant in the suburb of Hutchins, where the standoff ensued.

Investigators found a package of pipe bombs in the parking lot of the headquarters building and at least two more pipe bombs in the van, police said.

The suspect had told police negotiators that he had explosives in the van, and Brown said at a news conference that the department decided to shoot him because it felt he still posed enough of a threat. After the suspect was confirmed dead, the van caught fire due to the explosives inside, police said.

"When the negotiation was on, he became increasingly angry and threatening, such that we were not only concerned with our officers there trying to contain the scene being shot by him at a moment's notice," but also people nearby, Brown said.

Wary that the van may have been rigged with explosives, police used a camera-equipped robot to inspect it rather than have officers approach it immediately, which was why it took several hours to confirm he was dead.

The attack began at around 12:30 a.m., when several coppers were standing nearby. A popular bar across the street from the headquarters building was still open, and the neighborhood is also home to a boutique hotel and apartment buildings.

Many residents awoke to the sound of gunfire and sirens. In the early confusion, witnesses reported seeing as many as four attackers, including some who had taken high positions for better vantage points. Brown later said Sherlocks were confident the only attacker was the suspect police later killed.

Anita Grendahl was asleep in her seventh-floor apartment in a high-rise across from police headquarters when she heard gunshots loud enough to wake her up over a white noise machine in her room.

"We just woke up to a few pops and thought somebody was on my balcony, and then looked outside and saw the van crash into the car," she said.

Ladarrick Alexander and his fiancée, Laquita Davis, were driving back toward the cop shoppe to their nearby apartment when they heard 15 to 20 gunshots in quick succession.

Seconds later, police could be seen swarming an unmarked van that appeared to have crashed into a police car, they said.

They turned around and were parked outside the police perimeter about two blocks away, where they heard the sound of one detonation at about 4:30 am and smoke coming up in the air.
