[KhaamaPress] The Talibs killed or maimed at least 66 civilians in the first week of the holy month of Ramadan, the National Security Council said.
The Office of National Security Council in a statement said the Talibs killed 17 civilians and maimed at least 49 others during the same period.
The statement further added that the casualties were inflicted on civilians in 17 provinces of the country.
This comes as the United Nations ...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense... Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) last week released its latest report regarding the civilian casualties in Afghanistan which were inflicted in the first quarter of 2020.
"The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) documented a total of 1,293 civilian casualties (533 killed and 760 injured) in Afghanistan during the first three months of the year, underscoring the heavy toll the conflict continues to inflict on the civilian population," UNAMA said in a statement.
The report further added that the anti-Government Elements (AGEs) continued to be responsible for the majority of civilian casualties — 55 per cent — during the first quarter, causing 710 civilian casualties (282 killed and 428 injured). "UNAMA attributed 39 per cent to the Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... , 13 per cent to Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... of Iraq and the Levant—Khorasan Province (ISIS-KP) and the remainder to undetermined AGEs."
The number of civilian deaths attributed to AGEs — particularly the Taliban — increased by 22 per cent in the first quarter of 2020 as compared to the same period in 2019, mainly due to an increase in assassinations and summary executions, UNAMA added.
[KhaamaPess] The Afghan forces killed 8 Talibs including one of the commanders of the group during a clash in northern Faryab province.
The 209th Shaheen Corps in a statement said the Talibs attacked the security posts in Yangi Village of Qaisar district.
The statement further added that the security forces effectively responded to the attack, killing at least 8 Talibs including Mullah Ismail alias Hafiza, one of the commanders of the group.
The security forces also maimed 7 Talibs during the clash, the 209th Shaheen Corps said, adding that the security forces defused two improvised explosives which the Death Eaters had planted in the area.
The Taliban ...Arabic for students... group has not commented regarding the clash so far.
[KhaamaPress] The Afghan forces killed 16 Talibs during separate operations in northern Balkh province of Afghanistan, the Afghan military said.
The 209th Shaheen Corps in a statement said a group of Talibs ambushed a convoy of the Afghan forces between Zari district and Mazar-e Sharif city.
The statement further added the Afghan force carried out Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s in response to the attack, killing at least 14 faceless myrmidons and wounding 6 others.
The airstrikes also destroyed multiple weapons and vehicles of the Death Eaters, the statement added.
Meanwhile, ...back at the alley, Slats grabbed for his rosco... the 209th Shaheen Corps said the Afghan forces responded to another Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... attack in Chemtal district, killing at least 2 faceless myrmidons and wounding 4 others.
The Taliban group has not commented regarding the two incidents so far.
[KhaamaPress] The Afghan forces killed 5 Talibs and maimed at least 6 others during an operation in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan.
The 205th Atal Corps in a statement said a group of Talibs planned to launch attacks in Panjwai district.
However, alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk... the Atal Corps said the Afghan forces conducted in operation to thwart the attack plan and killed 5 Talibs during the operation.
The Afghan forces also maimed 6 other forces of Evil during the same raid, the 205th Atal Corps added in its statement.
Meanwhile, ...back at the Council of Boskone, Helmuth had turned a paler shade of blue. Star-A-Star had struck again... the Special Operations Corps in a statement said the Afghan Special Forces ...established in 2007 with the intent of taking one conventional infantry kandak (battalion) from each of the regional ANA corps, giving them special training and equipment, and reorganizing based on the U.S. Army Rangers. Each battalion is assigned to one of the six regional corps. The commandos comprise 7% of the Afghan National Security Forces but conduct 70% to 80% of the fighting... killed 3 Talibs during a similar raid in Nasi district of Badakhshan province.
The Taliban ...mindless ferocity in a turban... group has not commented in this regard so far.
This comes as Talibs are persistently attempting to intensify attacks against the Afghan forces despite ongoing efforts to end the violence through grinding of the peace processor.
[RADIOSHABELLE] An official says at least two people have been killed and several others maimed in a fresh battle erupted Sunday on the outskirts of Galkayo city, the regional capital of Mudug in central Somalia.
The skirmish flared up in Teegare area, which is located west side of Galkayo after a dispute between two clan militia turned into conflict, according to the official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Those injured in the inter-clan festivities were admitted to a local hospital with reports that the situation was calm on Sunday morning despite claims that both warring sides are gaining reinforcements.
It’s not yet clear what triggered the combat as both Puntland ...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion... and Galmudug ...a semiautonomous region in central Somalia, bordering Puntland on the north. Galmudug is not trying to obtain international recognition as a separate nation, but rather considers itself autonomous within the larger Somali federalism, for what that's worth... did not comment on the conflict. Local elders launched a mediation to halt the bloodshed and end the rift through dialogue.

I knew the Colonel Ashutosh Sharma, the battalion commander. Met him many times. Played a fine game of chess. Very committed individual. I got the impression of a psyche trying to negotiate the dichotomy of discipline and bravado; trying to do the right thing, and balancing machismo with it.
Very unfortunate.
This skew in the ratios of soldier to tango casualties in India, is a classic feature of the civil-bureaucratic and ministerial hold on the military's acquisitions and rules. It has always been like this. The higher Brass is appointed to preen for the politicals and the grunt has to die for lack of SOTA gear, stuff available even in shithole armouries around the world. Like everything else in India, the military is treated like an idol. It will be worshiped and given lip service, but it must keep its thoughts to itself.
Intense clashes between India and Pakistan armies still ongoing at several locations along LoC. Looks like that front will remain lit throughout the night. https://t.co/ELaZOrCEsQ
[Rudaw] The Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... terror group (ISIS) has carried out 85 attacks in disputed areas claimed by Erbil and Baghdad in the past four months, a top Peshmerga official said on Saturday.
"ISIS (ISIS) activities are on the rise day by day, in which they have carried out 85 terrorist activities in the past four months, killing 70 people and wounding 161 others," Jabar Yawar, chief of staff of the Peshmerga Affairs Ministry, told Rudaw on Saturday.
Yawar told Rudaw English that those killed include Kurdish Peshmerga forces, Iraqi Army soldiers, Shiite Hashd al-Shaabi or Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) as well as Iraqi Federal Police members.
The bad boy group kidnapped 41 other people for ransom during the period, he added.
"The bulk of those kidnapped are civilians from affluent families and [are] ambushed in remote areas by the bully boys," Yawar said.
He said that the majority of the attacks were launched in April.
"This is evidence that their activities increase month by month," he added.
According to Yawar, talks with the Iraqi Army to find a solution to fill the security void in large parts of the disputed territories "have not borne fruit".
"We have given them two suggestions; either we protect the security of these areas or we do it jointly with the Iraqi government," the chief of staff said, saying the Iraqi army has turned down both ideas.
"The Iraqi government is neither capable of protecting the security of the disputed areas nor do they let us do it," he added.
Between January 1 and April 15, the ISF carried out 1,060 operations and killed 135 ISIS targets, Iraqi defense ministry spokesperson Yehia Rasool said last week.

[SYRIAHR] Reliable sources have informed SOHR that HTS members stationed at a security checkpoint at the entrance of Kafr Takharim city in the north-western countryside of Idlib, inspect IDs and mobile phones of the civilians.
This development comes in the wake of the anti-HTS demonstration which went out in the city yesterday.
SOHR sources monitored last night several residents participating in demonstrations in Ariha and Kafr Takharim cities in rural Idlib, protesting the practices of Hayyaat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else ...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State... and its intention of opening a commercial crossing with areas under the control of the Syrian regime.

[IsraelTimes] Militants from the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... group rioted in a northeast Syrian prison on Sunday, a month after similar violence at the facility allowed four forces of Evil to escape, an opposition war monitor and a Kurdish activist collective says.
Kurdish forces sent reinforcements to the prison in the eastern Hassakeh province and US military helicopters flew overhead, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britannia-based war monitor, and North Press Agency, a media platform operating in the Kurdish-administered areas.
Kurdish authorities currently operate more than two dozen detention facilities scattered across northeastern Syria, holding about 10,000 IS fighters. Among the detainees are some 2,000 foreigners whose home countries have refused to repatriate them, including about 800 Europeans.
Further details were not immediately available on the size of the riot, and it was not clear if the unrest was triggered by concerns about the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague) ...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men... ’s potential spread in the prison.
[AlAhram] Imprisoned members of the Islamic State group rioted and took control of a prison in northeast Syria for several hours, until Kurdish-led authorities negotiated an end to the unrest Sunday.
The riot began Saturday at a prison in the city of Hassakeh, one of the largest facilities where IS members are held, and control was reestablished Sunday evening, said Kino Gabriel, a front man for the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces.
A two-day riot and takeover of the same prison in late March allowed four snuffies to escape, although they were caught a day later. It was one of the most serious uprisings by the prisoners since IS was defeated a year ago, when the SDF seized control of the last sliver of land controlled by the snuffies in eastern Syria.
Kurdish authorities currently operate more than two dozen detention facilities scattered across northeastern Syria, holding about 10,000 IS fighters. Among the detainees are some 2,000 foreigners whose home countries have refused to repatriate them, including about 800 Europeans.
Gabriel said SDF officials and members of the U.S.-led coalition had taken part in talks with the prisoners. At the height of the riots, he said Kurdish special forces and anti-terror units took part in the operations to try get the situation under control. He gave no further details, and did not say how many prisoners were involved or if there were any casualties.
U.S. military helicopters flew over the prison Sunday, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britannia-based war monitor, and North Press Agency, a media platform operating in the Kurdish-administered areas.
Gabriel said the U.S.-led coalition and the international community bear responsibility for finding solutions for IS detainees, and need to give more support to security and living conditions at the prisons.
A recent resurgence of IS attacks in both Syria and Iraq has raised concerns that the Death Eater group is taking advantage of governments absorbed in tackling the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague pandemic and the ensuing slide into economic chaos.
It was not immediately clear if Sunday's prison riot was triggered by concerns about the coronavirus's potential spread in the facility.
Last month, the U.S.-led coalition said it gave hygiene and medical supplies to detention facilities across northeastern Syria, including hand-washing stations, disinfectant wipes, face masks and examination gloves.
One coronavirus death was reported in Kurdish-held areas of Syria in April. The central government in Damascus has registered 43 cases and three deaths.
