A Jacksonville, Fla., judge drew his handgun when an accused child molester was attacked by an alleged victim's father in court. "Unhand that there pervert and reach fer the sky!"
"I object, yer honor!"
"I didn't know if he was going after me or the bailiffs or the defendant," Circuit Judge John Merrett told The (Jacksonville, Fla.) Times-Union. "So I shot him. End of problem."
The father, who had not seen the defendant before the court appearance, hurdled a railing and landed several punches on the handcuffed and shackled man before bailiffs restored order. Merrett said that once he saw the situation was under control, he handed his gun to the court clerk and asked her to lock it in a drawer. Merrett has a concealed weapon permit and said he'd do the same thing again, the newspaper reported. "That's right! I dunnit and I'm glad!"
"Objection!"
"[BANG!] Overruled!"
But Duval County Public Defender Bill White said the incident was frightening. "I peed myself, right on the spot!"
He plans to talk to the chief judge about whether judges should be packing heat armed in court. "It's very disconcerting for a lawyer to be in the line of fire," White told the Times-Union. "I mean, how the hell are you gonna sue a judge?"
The father was charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor battery. ... But no jury will convict him.

This was a gun, right?
I mean, it is Florida...
Wife cut off hubby's doinker manhood
A Chinese woman escaped jail after she cut off her husband's penis and threw it out of the window. "The calaboose ain't been made that can hold me!"
The man drove himself to hospital - but doctors couldn't reattach the organ as it had been eaten by a dog, reports Jinling Evening Post. Yes. That's what it said: The dog ate his dongle. We don't know why.
Yao Fengfang was given a three year suspended jail sentence after her husband, Li Gengbao, asked the judge to be lenient. Li, a taxi driver in Nanjing city, said he wanted his wife to keep her liberty so the bitch she could look after him for the rest of his life. He's very trusting of her...
Yao suspected her husband, of having an affair with his ex-wife and confronted him after seeing his taxi parked outside of her house. On the way back home, Yao threatened to 'disable' her husband but he thought she was bluffing. At my house we don't even joke about such things. The slightest hint, and it's off the the Motel 6 for me.
Li went to bed early but he was woken at midnight by a sharp pain. He said: "My wife was holding a large part of my penis, and I pleaded with her to send me to hospital immediately, but she refused firmly, and when I pleaded with her to give me back the cut penis, she threw it out of the window." "... all the while laughing maniacally!"
Li wrapped his wound with a pillow cover and drove his taxi to Nanjing City First Hospital. The hospital carried out emergency surgery and sent staff to look for Li's severed penis, but found it had been eaten by a neighbour's dog.
CALVERT, Md. - A 2-year-old golden retriever named Toby is credited with saving his owner's life. Toby saw his owner choking on a piece of fruit and began jumping up and down on the woman's chest. The dog's owner, Debbie Parkhurst, believes the dog was trying to perform the Heimlich maneuver and saved her life.
Parkhurst, 45, of Calvert told the Cecil Whig she was eating an apple at her home Friday when a piece lodged in her throat. She attempted to perform the Heimlich maneuver on herself but it didn't work. After she began beating on her chest, she said Toby noticed and got involved.
"The next thing I know, Toby's up on his hind feet and he's got his front paws on my shoulders," she recalled. "He pushed me to the ground, and once I was on my back, he began jumping up and down on my chest." Moments later, the apple dislodged and Toby started licking her face to keep her from passing out, she said.
"I literally have pawprint-shaped bruises on my chest. I'm still a little hoarse, but otherwise, I'm OK," Parkhurst said. "The doctor said I probably wouldn't be here without Toby," said Parkhurst, a jewelry artist. "I keep looking at him and saying 'You're amazing.'"

Her father gave her to another family to settle a dispute and that family tortured her for 2 years. Often disputes are solved in Pashtunwali by giving daughters. Eventually people rescued her and took her to Kabul for help. She is only 7 years old. She is being treated by a Kabuli doctor.

I just read a column yesterday (sorry, I can't find the link - maybe later) where the author once met an Iraqi back before Saddam's tender mercies were known. The Iraqi made a flat statement that Iraqis are the most barbaric people on earth. From what I've seen, the Pashtuns are in a league of their own in that department.
Tajik leader Imomali Rakhmonov, in a flamboyant move to revive Persian roots in the former Soviet state, has ordered his people to drop Russian-style surnames and banned Soviet-era school festivals. Slavic endings like -ov were added by many people across the five ex-Soviet republics of Central Asia during Russian imperial rule and later under Soviet power. In line with his new crusade, Rakhmonov declared himself "Rakhmon" earlier this month. At a government meeting late on Monday, the Tajik leader, who has ruled the Muslim state since 1992, told the nation to follow suit and register new-born babies only under Persian surnames. "Imomali Rakhmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, ... issued concrete instructions to officials to regulate the sphere of national traditions and ritualism," said the official website. The changes are unlikely, however, to concern Russia, since it is impoverished Tajikistan's key regional ally and trading partner. While cultivating warm relations with Moscow, Tajikistan, which speaks a dialect of Farsi, has also sought to revive its Tajik identity and pre-Soviet traditions, with Rakhmonov advocating closer cultural ties with Iran and Afghanistan.

The US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) announced on 15 March the successful test of a 30,000 lb (13,600 kg) conventional bomb, which is designed to destroy hardened underground facilities.

During GWI, our carrier's Morale Suppression Squad made us discontinue the practice of writing on bombs hung on the trusty Intruder soon to be delivered. No good reason was given, but I later found out the head of the MSS was a Hornet driver so I think there was a little Delivery Envy there ( 26K of bombs vs. 9)
CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) -- Lawrence Roach agreed to pay alimony to the woman he divorced, not the man she became after a sex change, his lawyers argued in an effort to end the payments. But the ex-wife's attorneys argued Tuesday that the operation doesn't alter the agreement. Only a 2004 Ohio case has addressed whether or not a transsexual can still collect alimony after a sex change, those involved say. "There is not a lot out there to help us," Circuit Judge Jack R. St. Arnold said.
Roach and his wife, Julia, divorced in 2004 after 18 years of marriage. The 48-year-old utility worker agreed to pay her $1,250 a month in alimony. Since then, Julia Roach, 55, had a sex change and legally changed her name to Julio Roberto Silverwolf.Ayeee Machismo!
"It's illegal for a man to marry a man and it should likewise be illegal for a man to pay alimony to a man," said John McGuire, one of Roach's attorneys. "When she changed to man, I believe she terminated that alimony." Silverwolf did not appear in court Tuesday and has declined to talk about the divorce. His lawyer, Gregory Nevins, said the language of the divorce decree is clear and firm - Roach agreed to pay alimony until his ex-wife dies or remarries. "Those two things haven't happened," said Nevins, a senior staff attorney with the national gay rights group Lambda Legal.
Arnold found fault with several of Roach's legal arguments and noted that appeals courts have declined to legally recognize a sex change in Florida when it comes to marriage. The appellate court "is telling us you are what you are when you are born," (Sometimes its just freaky) Arnold said. An Ohio appeals court ruled in September 2004 that a Montgomery County man must continue to pay alimony to his transsexual ex-wife because her sex change wasn't reason enough to violate the agreement. Roach, who has since remarried, said he has been unable to convince state and federal lawmakers to tackle the issue. He said he will continue to fight.
