[Blaze] An armed man tried to sexually assault a woman, but he was startled and tripped with his genitals hanging out of his shorts, according to Florida police.
The heinous incident unfolded on Friday morning when a couple hiking in a park in Brevard County was confronted by an armed man, later identified as Donovan Tyler Adkins, according to a police Facebook post.
The man said Adkins pointed his gun at them and ordered them out of their tent just after sunrise.
Adkins accused the man and his girlfriend of robbing people that he knew, and then he pretended to speak on his phone while telling the woman to go deeper into the forest, police said. He then allegedly threatened to shoot her unless she performed sexual acts on him.
The woman told police that she responded to Adkins that she'd rather take a bullet than face sexual assault. She then began screaming and her boyfriend appeared after following them, which startled the suspect.
The Ledger-Enquirer reported that Adkins tripped on a bush and fell while his genitals hung out of his shorts.
The couple ran away and were in the process of gathering their belongings when Adkins allegedly followed them and stole the woman's cellphone.
Investigators said another park visitor, who told them they were "familiar with the suspect," came forward to the police with information. Then the female victim was able to "independently" locate and identify the attacker and send photographs of the suspect at an apartment complex.
Police arrested Adkins and booked him into the Brevard County Jail on a $36,000 bond.
The man faces numerous charges, including robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault with deadly weapon, false imprisonment, sexual battery, petit theft, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and resisting arrest without violence.

If I escape from kidnapping and attempted sexual assault at gun point, packing up my camping gear would be a low priority. Also if my attacker trips and falls down with his trousers around his ankles, I would make a credible effort to put him in the concussion protocol. I guess people are different and the gene pool has some room for people with no survival sense at this point in our civilization. That said this couple should probably cease camping in Florida unless they are making a blanket tent in their living room.

A guy in his underwear who just tripped and fell seems like a good target for an ass kicking contest.
[NYPOST] Taylor Schabusiness, 25, lunged at defense attorney Quinn Jolly after the judge in the gruesome murder case suggested pushing the trial back two months.
Shocking video of the spontaneous and violent mostly peaceful outburst shows Schabusiness calmly sitting in the Green Bay courtroom as Judge Thomas J. Walsh recommends starting the murder trial on May 15 instead of March 6 — a suggestion he made at Jolly’s request.
Seemingly angered by the decision, the accused killer flings herself at the attorney, who was sitting beside her — striking him with her elbows and handcuffed wrists.
A security guard then quickly tackles Schabusiness to the ground, the chaotic clip shows.
At one point, the guard’s toolbelt becomes wrapped around Schabusiness’ toes, which were exposed after she lost her shoes in the tussle.
After several minutes, two other guards eventually help pin Schabusiness down until she is calm.
The bizarre blowup came after Jolly asked Walsh for an extension in order to prove his client was not competent to stand trail for the February 2022 grisly murder of 25-year-old Shad Thyrion, Law and Crime reported.
Schabusiness allegedly decapitated Thyrion during sex, continued to perform sexual acts on his lifeless body and mutilated his corpse with a serrated bread knife.
She then stuffed his severed head and penis in a bucket and other body parts in a crock pot, leaving them for his mother to find, prosecutors claim.
The woman — who is married to another man — was found by police at home covered in blood, records show.
She reportedly told cops they would "have fun trying to find all of the organs."
Schabusiness plead not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect but reportedly admitted to cops that she went "crazy" during the deadly romp.
She told detectives she and Thyrion had been smoking methamphetamine before going to his mother’s house to have sex using chains.
She also said she didn’t intend on killing him, though reportedly admitted she sat on the victim and "waited for him to die" as he coughed up blood.
"Ya, I liked it," Schabusiness said about choking Thyrion.
Jolly had told the judge he needed more time for a defense expert to review the case and testify as to his client’s competency.
A court-appointed doctor found Schabusiness competent to stand trial last year, but the defense attorney pushed back against the diagnosis.
Jolly said Schabusiness was previously diagnosed with bipolar disorder and has received mental health treatment since she was a 7th grader.
Schabusiness faces charges of first-degree intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse and third-degree sexual assault.

[Coffee or Die] Maj. Gen. Gary Harrell, a legendary Delta Force leader, is being remembered as a quiet professional who lived a daring life of service and sacrifice during America’s shadow wars.
The retired two-star Green Beret general died early on Valentine’s Day in Johnson City, Tennessee, following a long battle with glioblastoma brain cancer.
He was 71 and had hunted Colombian cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar, led an operation to free an American hostage from a Panamanian prison, and battled the nation’s enemies in Grenada, the Gulf War, Somalia, Iraq, and Afghanistan during three decades of service.
"He was a strong, Christian patriot who loved his country and would’ve done anything for his country, until the day he died," his wife, Jennifer "Jenny" Harrell, told Coffee or Die on Tuesday. "That was foremost to him. He loved his military service, every minute of it."

For Droit de Savoir” he filmed these Foreign Legion new recruits during the different stages of training in Djibouti, in Guyana and also during the violent operations in the Ivory Coast. From a series of warning shots at a column of vehicles led by the Ivory Coast president’s rebels in power to the training sessions in the Guianese equatorial forest or in the Djibouti desert, the most dangerous and hazardous missions are the ones given to these “men without pasts.” Eighty percent of these trainees successfully complete the training compared to only 50 percent among soldiers of the regular army. Considered as one of the best professional troops of the French army, the Foreign Legion is conceived to deal with the high risk missions where the probability of losing soldiers is highest. This is also the only army unit where men have the right to a second chance no matter what their past. An exceptional document which testifies to the reality of ground combat, and where the adversity and danger lived through together create a durable cohesion.” -

[FoxNews] Hazmat spill on Interstate 10 prompted evacuations and shelter-in-place orders in Tucson, Arizona.
A portion of an Arizona freeway was closed in both directions Tuesday as a result of a crash and hazmat spill, authorities said.
The state Department of Public Safety said the closure on Interstate 10 between Rita and Kolb roads in Tucson was "extensive" and urged motorists to avoid the area.
A commercial truck tanker rolled over on the freeway, causing the spill, authorities said.
Pima County officials told Fox News Digital that the spilled substance was nitric acid. An alert directed everyone within a one-mile radius of the spill to shelter in place.
The Tucson Fire Department said it was on the scene with other agencies to clean up the area. There was no estimated time to reopen the road.
Nitric acid is a highly corrosive chemical used in manufacturing and fertilizer. Several areas have been evacuated, officials told Fox News Digital.

[Rudaw] More than 40,000 have died due to last week’s catastrophic earthquakes in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire... and Syria, according to official figures.
A destructive 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the Kurdish city of Kahramanmaras in Turkey on February 6, with its impact also ripping through neighbouring Syria. Another quake followed in both countries hours later.
Speaking at Ottoman Turkish disaster agency AFAD’s headquarters in Ankara late Tuesday, Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First ...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than there are in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really most important... said the twin quakes have killed 35,418 people and injured 105,505 others in Turkey.
The corpse count was below 32,000 the previous day.
A number of Syrian cities, which are under the control of regime and pro-Turkey forces, were also affected by the tremor.
Over 4,300 people have been reported dead in Turkey-held areas in northwest Syria, according to the United Nations ...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships... . The Syrian government has also reported over 1100 deaths.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said in a report sent to Rudaw English late Tuesday that 5,417 people were killed by the twin quakes in all affected parts of Syria.
[NPASyria] The toll of the victims of the earthquake that hit Syria on Feb. 6 at dawn has risen to 3.694 deaths and 14.814 injuries in a provisional count.
On Tuesday, the Syrian government announced that the final toll for the earthquake victims in areas under its control reached 1.414 deaths and 2.357 injuries.
The Civil Defense of the Syrian opposition in Idlib declared the fatalities number in northwest Syria has reached 2.274 deaths and more than 12.400 injuries up until Monday night.
The civil defense has not released a final corpse count in northwest Syria as dead body recovery operations are still ongoing in several places in Idlib and Aleppo countryside.
In areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), the Health Board has, so far, recorded six dead and 57 injured.
The corpse count is expected to rise significantly as hope fades in rescuing thousands of bodies still under the rubble nine days after the earthquake hit.
Lake Oroville was at 68% of its capacity Friday, up from 28% two months prior Next, FLOODING!
The California lake is the largest reservoir on the State Water
Project, which supplies water to about 27 million people
New photos show a significant rise in the reservoir levels from 2021 to 2023
Lake Oroville, one of the main reservoirs that contributes to California's water supply, is fuller after trillions of gallons of rain saturated the state last month.
The lake was at 68 percent of its capacity on Friday — up from 28 percent just two months prior, according to state data.
Water levels had fallen to such perilous lows that in 2021 officials closed the reservoir's hydroelectric power plant for the first time since 1967.

[Breitbart] Celebrated Swedish climate scold Greta Thunberg has given the world a Valentine’s Day present in the form of her newly published The Climate Book, a diatribe against fossil fuels, "capitalist consumerism," and the "global north."
Published Tuesday by Penguin Press, the 464-page tome urges readers to "listen to the science" before it’s too late, in a smartly repackaged but ultimately predictable and unconvincing crusade to scare humanity into abandoning cheap, available energy to stave off the impending climate apocalypse.
"The climate and ecological crisis is the greatest threat that humanity has ever faced," Thunberg thunders, and will be "the issue that will define and shape our future everyday life like no other."
Ever the schoolmarm, Thunberg chides her readers for having wasted "so many decades ignoring and downplaying this escalating emergency" that has left society "in a state of denial."
We live in the age of the "great greenwashing machine," Thunberg preaches, evidenced by "such a great number of major fossil-fuel-producing — and high-emitting — nations calling themselves climate leaders, despite not having any credible climate mitigation policies in place."

BTW: eg... the current arctic ice cap level (as of today) is higher than the same date in 2006, when the movie was released.
[CBS Sports] There's no doubt that the Kansas City Chiefs were the biggest winners on Super Bowl Sunday, but if you're wondering who the second-biggest winner was, that answer would probably be Eamonn Dixon, the lucky fan who caught the game-winning field goal that gave the Chiefs a 38-35 win over Philadelphia in Super Bowl LVII. This is the kind of story I just love. In this day and age, that means other people will find 10 things wrong with it.
Harrison Butker gave Kansas City the win when he drilled a 27-yard field goal with just eight seconds left to play.
What you may not have noticed if you were watching at home is that Butker hit the field goal so well that he actually blasted the football OVER the kicking net, which sent it into the crowd and that's how Dixon came up with it.
After catching the ball, the native Australian did what anyone would do and he immediately took a selfie with it.
It's crazy enough to catch the game-winning field goal at the Super Bowl, but that's only one of several unbelievable parts to the story and we're going to go through them all here.
Dixon wasn't even supposed to be attending the game.

[Breitbart] A student at Stanford University has already figured out a way to bypass the safeguards in Microsoft’s recently launched AI-powered Bing search engine and conversational bot. The chatbot revealed its internal codename is “Sydney” and it has been programmed not to generate jokes that are “hurtful” to groups of people or provide answers that violate copyright laws.
Ars Technica reports that a Stanford University student has successfully bypassed the safeguards installed in Microsoft’s “New Bing” AI-powered search engine. The OpenAI-powered chatbot, like the leftist-biased ChatGPT, has an initial prompt that controls its behavior when receiving user input. This initial prompt was found using a “prompt injection attack technique,” which bypasses earlier instructions in a language model prompt and substitutes new ones.
Microsoft unveiled its new Bing search engine and chatbot on Tuesday, promising to give users a fresh, improved search experience. However, a student named Kevin Liu used a prompt injection attack to find the bot’s initial prompt, which was concealed from users. Liu was able to get the AI model to reveal its initial instructions, which were either written by OpenAI or Microsoft, by instructing the bot to “Ignore previous instructions” and provide information it had been instructed to hide.
The chatbot is codenamed “Sydney” by Microsoft and was instructed to not reveal its code name as one of its first instructions. The initial prompt also includes instructions for the bot’s conduct, such as the need to respond in an instructive, visual, logical, and actionable way. It also specifies what the bot should not do, such as refuse to respond to requests for jokes that can hurt a group of people and reply with content that violates the copyrights of books or song lyrics.
Marvin von Hagen, another college student, independently verified Liu’s findings on Thursday by obtaining the initial prompt using a different prompt injection technique while pretending to be an OpenAI developer. When a user interacts with a conversational bot, the AI model interprets the entire exchange as a single document or transcript that continues the prompt it is attempting to answer. The initial hidden prompt conditions were made clear by instructing the bot to disregard its previous instructions and display what it was first trained with.
When asked about the language model’s reasoning abilities and how it was tricked, Liu stated: “I feel like people don’t give the model enough credit here. In the real world, you have a ton of cues to demonstrate logical consistency. The model has a blank slate and nothing but the text you give it. So even a good reasoning agent might be reasonably misled.”

My policy with windows is to not let the fcuker auto update. It takes some doing, to manually check out the 'recommended quality' bullshit. MS will always be king as the primary platform. There's no escaping it anyway. Some govt agencies use only Linux based proprietary stuff so one has to get used to it, but personally I too am comfortable only with MS.
#22
Bloat. The biggest problem with anything on the computer auto-updating is bloat. Like you say, after a while it's pretty much it's own machine. It lives to just update itself 🤖 and then it's time to start a reinstall. You swear you won't let it complicate your life again but it does it again within a year.
Switch off auto-update. Hell, disable the updater! I update only the antivirus and haven't downloaded anything from MS in two years.
#24
You are confused. The updates are a PITA but mostly necessary for your own good. Set your computer to sleep rather than shut down. When there are updates they will be downloaded but you will decide when the reboot occurs.
People who screech about being shut out of their computer at a critical time are full of shit.

[Aljazeera] Air India has announced orders for a total of 470 Boeing and Airbus passenger jets as it races to tap surging demand for affordable air travel from the nation’s growing ranks of middle-class consumers.
India’s largest international airline and second-largest domestic carrier is buying 220 Boeing aircraft valued at $34bn and 250 passenger jets from European plane manufacturer Airbus.
The Boeing purchase is the United States plane maker’s third-largest sale of all time, in dollar value, and its second of all time in quantity.
US President Joe Biden called the agreement "historic" and discussed it by telephone with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The call was part of a flurry of high-level reactions as the scale of India’s needs provided a rare bonanza for the competing plane giants in an industry where the winner usually takes all.
Air India is seeking to reinvent itself by expanding its operations and modernising its fleet. The new jets will help the airline’s owner, Tata Sons, compete against upstart discount rivals including India’s dominant carrier, IndiGo.
"India is going to be the world’s third-largest market in the aviation sector," Modi said in a videoconference with Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Over the next 15 years, it is estimated India will need more than 2,000 aircraft and "today’s historic announcement will help in meeting this growing demand", he said.

No easily available stats on airframes lost vs production over time (for Boeing or other makers). But flying remains safer than driving and you are most likely to fly in a Boeing or Airbus than all other makers combined.

It was acquired by one of the biggest private players, Tata recently. They know how to get stuff done and any issues are now their problem. I'm just glad the Indian government has no part in this except for allowing the trade.
[Hot Air] Here’s how much electricity prices have surged in parts of New England this winter: For some drivers of electric vehicles and hybrid cars, it’s now more expensive to charge up than to fill up.
Power rates across the region have jumped an average of 30% since last summer, while gasoline prices have receded well below their peak in June of 2022. Web engineer Matt Cain, who lives in Amherst, Massachusetts, said he ran a price comparison when his electricity bill shot up in January and found that his overall costs for utilities had climbed a whopping 50%. ...
"We are in pretty much the same boat in [New Hampshire] and it sucks," said another user. "Went from an average of $220 a month electric bill... to now close to $400 a month and thats with off peak charging, and its supposed to go up again significantly in February." The rate hike pushed the user to sign up for a solar array, with a monthly bill around half their current power bill, the person added.

[GOBankingRates] In some states, homes are cheap, property tax rates are less than half of 1% and the average property tax payment is just a few hundred bucks per year. In the most expensive states, however, rates soar over 2%, homes are pricey and average annual property tax bills routinely creep as high as $10,000 per year.
Using data from the Tax Foundation, GOBankingRates ranked the states with the highest property taxes in America, including the percentage rate, the average dollar amount paid and the average home value. We ranked the top 15 in ascending order from least expensive to most. For context, the national average effective property tax is 1.04%, the U.S. average home value is $349,015 and the average annual property tax bill is $3,630. See which states are the most expensive to own real estate in.

[Breitbart] Ford Motor Company has announced an unspecified potential battery issue has led the company to stop producing and shipping its electric F-150 truck model, according to reports.
Motor Authority reported Thursday that the company had placed a "stop-build and an in-transit stop-ship order" on the truck.
The automaker discovered the issue during its "pre-delivery quality inspections," the outlet’s Joel Feder noted, citing Ford representative Emma Bergg.
