Almost 530K residents in Donbass received Russian citizenship

[TASS] Almost 530 thousand residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics received Russian citizenship in a simplified manner in two years. TASS was informed about this in the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in response to a corresponding request from the agency.
"Since the beginning of the implementation of the presidential decree of April 24, 2019 <...> more than 527 thousand persons permanently residing in certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine have acquired Russian citizenship," the press center said.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, almost 2,000 residents of the DPR and LPR refused to acquire Russian citizenship. Thus, 40% of applications were rejected due to the fact that people had restrictions on entry to Russia due to administrative expulsion, deportation, readmission, or in connection with a decision made regarding them that they were undesirable to stay in the Russian Federation. A third of those who have been denied citizenship have an unexpunged or outstanding criminal record. A quarter of applicants for Russian citizenship were not given due to the fact that they advocated a violent change in the foundations of the constitutional system of Russia and pose a threat to security.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that the work on the admission of citizens of the DPR and LPR into the citizenship of the Russian Federation continues.
On April 24, 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree allowing residents of the DPR and LPR to obtain Russian citizenship in a simplified manner. Citizenship in a simplified manner will also be eligible for Ukrainians who lived not only in "certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine" (that is, in the Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics), but also residents of these regions as a whole. "
