'Vampire facial' spa in New Mexico may have exposed clients to HIV, hepatitis
[USAtoday] Health officials in New Mexico have urged clients of a spa performing services such as "vampire facials" to get tested for blood-borne infections such as HIV or hepatitis.

According to a statement from the New Mexico Department of Health, the VIP Spa in Albuquerque was shut down after health officials discovered practices identified at the spa could spread disease to clients.

The inspection was conducted after a client of the spa developed an infection officials believe originated from a spa treatment.

Officials are reaching out to people who had any injection-related service at the spa, including "vampire facials," a treatment where a person's blood is isolated to obtain platelet-rich plasma, then injected into that person's skin using a microneedling process.

Any one who received such treatment in May or June of this year is asked to visit the New Mexico Department of Health for free, confidential testing.

Climate Yo-Yos Yammer and Yell About Trump
[American Greatness] Perhaps, in the Headline Hall of Fame, alongside "Headless body in topless bar," we can add a new entry to display for generations to come. This week a Washington Post editorial declared: "Another hurricane is about to batter our coast. Trump is complicit."

The point was that hurricanes are caused or intensified by the man-made climate change that we’ve experienced in recent decades, and that Trump ignores that supposedly obvious fact, bringing about destruction. Never mind that, between Wilma in 2005 and Harvey in 2017, no major hurricane (Category 3 or higher) made landfall in the continental United States. That’s the longest such hiatus ever recorded.

Never mind that, according to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, 40 major hurricanes hit the United States in the 55-year period between 1906 and 1960. In the following 55 years, during the era of global warming, the number was 26. The number in the worst categories, Categories 4 and 5, fell from 12 to 5.

This week, California Governor Jerry Brown is hosting a conference of people involved in what’s called the Climate Resistance. As noted by the Washington Times, "The massive three-day bash hosted by Mr. Brown will feature top Democrats, liberal megadonors, Obama administration figures, international leaders, green energy, Silicon Valley, Hollywood celebrities, and Al Gore."

This follows state legislation signed by Brown requiring utilities to get all their electricity from "zero-carbon" sources by 2045. Massive expansions of hydropower and nuclear power are off the table, so that means relying mainly on intermittent sources like wind (which works only when the wind blows) and solar (which works only when the sun shines).

California officials claim the state currently gets about a third of its electricity from "renewable" sources. In June, the price of electricity in California was 65.3 percent higher than the national average. The difference would be greater except for the fact that some 41 other states have their own, smaller scams driving up electricity prices by requiring electricity consumers to buy expensive, unreliable wind and solar power.

Jerry Brown just wants to do to America and the world what he and his fellow environmentalists have already done to California.

It's Official: Google Is A Democratic Party Front [UPDATED]
[Powerline] Someone leaked to Breitbart an hour-long video of an "all hands" Google meeting that was held just after the 2016 election. The video features Google’s co-founder, Sergei Brin, its CEO, Sundar Pichai, and numerous other high-ranking "Googlers" speaking in turn about the election’s tragic outcome. It is stunning.

All of the speakers express grief over Donald Trump’s election. All of the speakers assume that every Google employee is a Democrat and is stunned and horrified that Hillary Clinton‐the worst and most corrupt presidential candidate in modern history‐lost. There is much discussion about what Google can do to reverse the benighted world-wide tide exemplified by Brexit and Trump’s election. The insane doctrine of "white privilege" rears its head.

You really have to see it to believe it. Having suffered through the hour-long cri de cœur‐OK, to be fair, there is a huge element of schadenfreude, too, and you will relish much of it‐you probably will have several reactions: 1) These people may have certain valuable technical skills, but they aren’t very bright and are unusually lacking in self-awareness. 2) It is remarkable that they can achieve such an extraordinary monoculture in an organization with thousands of employees. It must require vigorous enforcement of right-think. 3) It is easy to see how these uniformly left-wing robots/people seamlessly transitioned into Resisting the duly elected Trump administration.

Here is the video, then a final comment:

Nunes warns China, not Russia, is 'real threat'
h/t Instapundit
Democrats and their media allies seeking to advance a liberal political agenda corrupted the FBI and Justice Department in improperly spying on Donald Trump's presidential campaign, the chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence said this week.

Rep. Devin Nunes (R., Calif.), the intelligence panel head who has spearheaded an investigation into corruption at the FBI, also warned in a speech that China has emerged as the most serious strategic threat facing the United States.

U.S. Military's Worst-Case Scenario: Large Parts of Africa Seized By ISIS, Al Queda, and Boko Haram
[Intercept] WHAT KEEPS U.S. Africa Command chief Gen. Thomas Waldhauser up at night? That remains unknown, but the analysts under his command are worried about terrorist organizations like the Islamic State, Al Qaeda, and Boko Haram combining forces and destabilizing large swaths of the African continent.

Planning documents issued in October 2017 and classified by Waldhauser detail the worst-case scenarios imagined by the command. The forecasts, which are an update to AFRICOM’s Theater Campaign Plan and were obtained by The Intercept via a Freedom of Information Act request, center around potential gains by terrorist organizations in the north and west of the continent, specifically Libya, the Sahel, and the Lake Chad basin. They offer a nightmare vision of a destabilized, crisis-ridden region that could ‐ if the worst happens ‐ fall increasingly under the control of Al Qaeda, ISIS, and Boko Haram.

North and West Africa have seen intense U.S. military engagement over the last decade. America has, as The Intercept reported earlier this year, conducted approximately 550 drone strikes in Libya since 2011 ‐ more than in Somalia, Yemen, or Pakistan. In July, Politico disclosed that for at least five years, Green Berets, Navy SEALs, and other commandos ‐ operating under a little-understood budgetary authority known as Section 127e ‐ have been involved in reconnaissance and "direct action" combat raids with local forces in Cameroon, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, and Tunisia. Between 2015 and 2017, there were also at least 10 previously unreported attacks on American troops in West Africa, the New York Times revealed in March. Last October, four U.S. troops were killed in an ISIS ambush in Niger. Two months later, Green Berets fighting alongside local forces in that same country reportedly killed 11 ISIS militants.

The disclosure comes as Waldhauser has submitted a proposal, in response to the Trump administration’s strategy to increasingly focus on threats from China and Russia, to drastically cut the number of U.S. commandos on the continent and shutter several bases, according to a recent report by the New York Times. AFRICOM did not respond to requests to interview Waldhauser.

The AFRICOM documents imagine a future in which the Islamic State consolidates control over eastern Libya ‐ a region destabilized by a 2011 NATO military intervention that overthrew autocrat Muammar Gaddafi. ISIS, in this scenario, would dominate major cities and develop close ties with local militias and "tribal elements." According to the files, ISIS could then use oil revenues to finance a wide-ranging terror campaign. "ISIS and their associated branches might then begin to plan and conduct large scale, high-impact attacks against Western targets in North Africa and Europe," according to the files.

'Containment' permits the threat to survive. The threat permits the military-industrial complex to flourish.

#4  It wasn't that long ago posters on this forum expressed concern about the spread of the wahhabi into the African continent.
For many reasons, the whahabi have morphed into IS, BH, and Al-Q. They are a force that has a nasty habit of killing Christians and nativists. There are large patches of civilization in Africa worth preserving.
The African continent is not the place to let this scum take control.
While I am not ready to put a standing army in Africa, I would support a decapitation campaign to make life tough for the bad guys.

#6  I have worked with many Africans in the oilfield. They are happy to get away from there, tired of the unending and constant corruption. They say they cannot trust anyone, even family many times. If Africa is as great as everyone keeps saying, then we should let Africa alone so it can be so awesome without any help from us.

What Caused Those Gas Explosions In Massachusetts? No One Seems To Know
[HOT AIR] When I wrote about this story Thursday afternoon, at least 70 homes had exploded and/or caught fire in the area of Lawrence, Massachusetts and authorities were scrambling to put out the fires and also to evacuate the area. It seemed obvious that there was some kind of problem with the gas lines but no one was too clear about what had started it. All anyone could point to was a notice posted on the gas company’s website Thursday morning which said they were going to be doing some work in the neighborhood.

Today, the Associated Press reports the cause of the incident is still an open question:

2) Possible shoddy workmanship in either maintence

3) Possible illegal tapping into the system by

4) Possible work done by incompetent homeowners or

gas in their homes.
5) As stated above, crappy components

Every so often with a natural gas system there will be accidents. Homes leveled by explosions or and fires. This goes beyond one home system though.

Why should President Trump listen to Jimmy Carter?
[American Thinker] I find it humorous and sad that some reporter at Huffington Post would think that President Trump, or anyone, should care what Jimmy Carter thinks of Trump's economic and other policies but somehow, that "news" organ thought otherwise as they sought to trash Trump on on their pages:

Former President Jimmy Carter clearly has no love or respect for the policies of President Donald Trump's administration. In fact, Carter said he would change "all of" them if he had his time in the White House again, per The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "If I were foolish enough to feel I could be president again, I think the first thing I would do would be to change all of the policies that President Trump has initiated," Carter told students at an Emory University event in Atlanta on Wednesday.

Haven't these journalists ever researched what kind of president Jimmy Carter was?

This article implies that Carter would have insight as to what good policies are, even after he handed off an economic disaster to his successor, Ronald Reagan. Thank goodness Carter was defeated in 1980 because our economy was collapsing.
absolutely true. The man was incompetent at best
In December 1980, the unemployment rate was 7.2%. Today it is 3.9%. In December 1980, black unemployment was 15.0%. Today it is 6.3%. In December 1980, Hispanic unemployment was 10.3%. Today it is 4.7%.

Inflation was in double digits through 1980, following four years of Carter, yet Carter inherited a 5.76% rate in 1976. The cost of everything was skyrocketing.

And interest rates were something else. On Jan. 5, 1981, at the end of Carter's term, the ten-year Treasury bond had a yield of 12.57%. Today it is 3%. Carter inherited a rate of 6.84% from Dec. 20, 1976. Think of the cost of a mortgage at that time and how unaffordable houses would be.

Think what would have happened if Reagan hadn't lowered taxes and allowed the Federal Reserve to wring inflation and high interest rates out of the economy.

Why would anyone think that advice about policies from Jimmy Carter would be valuable to Trump ... or anyone?

Evelyn Rodriquez struck by car and killed at candlelight vigil for daughter
[NYP] The grieving mother of a young girl killed by MS-13 gang members on Long Island was fatally struck by a car on Friday while preparing for a candlelight vigil at her daughter’s memorial, cops said.

Evelyn Rodriguez ‐ who attended President Trump’s State of the Union Address to shed light on the brutal slaying of 16-year-old Kayla Cuevas ‐ was struck by a vehicle in Brentwood at around 4 p.m. ‐ two years to the day her daughter’s body was found in a wooded area off the same block, according to police.

"My thoughts and prayers are with Evelyn Rodriguez this evening, along with her family and friends. #RIPEvelyn," Trump tweeted Friday.

Rodriguez, 50, was on Ray Court ‐ near where the remains of Kayla and her best friend Nisa Mickens, 15, were found. The two had been beaten with baseball bats and hacked with a machete by MS-13 gang members.

The mom was preparing for the vigil when she and a woman driving a white 2016 Nissan Rogue got into a heated altercation over a memorial for the two girls that had been dismantled in front of a house on the block, cops said.

The woman was a relative of someone who lived at the home, according to police.

In video footage posted on Long Island News 12’s Web site, Rodriguez and a man can be seen confronting the driver.

That’s when the SUV driver accelerated and fatally struck Rodriguez, cops said. The network did not air that part of the footage.

Doesn't look like an accident.

Those Who Walked Away From Sanity
h/t Instapundit
[PJMedia] You’re walking down a foggy road, it’s twilight. You’re thinking about how divided this country is and feeling rather gloomy.

There’s a smell of sulfur in the air. And you think here, finally, is the answer to your worries. As a gentleman with horns and forked tail comes out of the fog, you slap your forehead and realize there is a reason the left is going completely insane and can’t leave anyone alone.

You slap your forehead, tell the guy that it’s early for Halloween costumes and walk on.

...The problem is this: the deals with the devil people make ‐ the real ones, which apply whether one believes in the devil or not ‐ are not the kind made at twilight at a crossroads with a being of distinctly evil shape, and imbued with a suspicious smell.

Instead, they’re made in nice rooms, in meeting rooms, at conferences, with well-dressed people who are so benign, so kind, so full of wish to help us. And also, inevitably, powerful and full of the aroma of success.

...Is this a sin only of the left? I don’t know. For my entire life, the half century or so I’ve been cognizant of such things, the people in control, the people who were rich, famous, well put together, were leftist.

And the problem with deals with the devil is that they sound so plausible: after all, sure, I hated communism, but these people, so smart, so successful, seemed to think that this time they could do it right. I was always contrary. What if it were I who was wrong? What if I had lacked the knowledge they had? Before the internet, who did you know who agreed with you? Some friends, sure, but you ‐ loving them madly ‐ could also justify their opinion. They were contrary. They were rebels. That was probably it.

...again and again, in academia, in the media, in writing, in the arts, you wanted to get in, you wanted to advance, you wanted access to the public. And it was clear they wouldn’t let you in if they knew you were one of those: unwashed, stupid, or evil. Those people who stood outside the magical circle cast by the words "one of the good ones." (Yes, I heard them used often, back and forth, as sign and counter sign. Not, note, about me.)

...It’s funny that the left who coined the term "sell out" and who reviled Pope Benedict for his stint in the Hitler Youth, despite his pointing out everyone did it then, to survive, to pass unremarked, is composed of a large number of people who "sold out".

...The thing is that the left, in control of various institutions as they’ve been for seventy years, are losing their grip.

Part of this is because three generations of being hired for ideology is enough to create a generation too stupid to pour p*ss out of their boots with the instructions written on the heel.

...So the wheels of the industries the left controlled started coming off and other things arose to replace them. Certainly true of the media and writing. Or people stopped paying attention, which seems to be the case with the visual arts.

...And now the worm is turning. The ground is shifting under their feet. People are going around them, not making obeisance. The industries are shrinking. There is less power, less money, less adulation in the path they chose than they thought there would be.

But that’s where they are.

A lot of the unhinged rage from the left is the rage of the dupe who finds out exactly how the devil swindled them.

Sure, they’ll never admit it. A lot of them will cling to the crazy left harder than ever, rather than admit what they did.

#1  A lot of the unhinged rage from the left is the rage of the dupe who finds out exactly how the devil swindled them.

A great line but I think it is deeper than just being swindled by the left. Many have been swindled by someone and it does not unleash such unrestrained rage, craziness and dangerous behavior. Why don't we see such behavior on the right when things don't go as they wish?

Economy
Boom times: 72% blue collar are ‘optimistic about future,' 67% ‘happy'
[Washington Examiner] That recession driven grimness hanging over the workplace has lifted and now workers of all shades are feeling good about their future.

A new survey provided to Secrets said that 72 percent of blue collar workers and 76 percent of white collar workers are optimistic about their future.

What’s more, half feel that it would be easy to find another job if they needed or wanted to.

But in its survey of 1,001 employed workers, Porch, a free online network that links homeowners and repair, renovation and cleaning professionals, found that there is concern about robots and automation.

For example, 29 percent of blue collar workers are worried that their jobs will soon be automated. But for white collar workers it was just 24 percent.

The survey also found that most blue collar and white collar workers are happy, feel respected, and like each other.

Olde Tyme Religion
Babylon Bee: Missions Trip Successfully Converts Entire Village Into Republicans
UNDISCLOSED‐A missions trip to a remote tribe in an undisclosed closed country has successfully converted the entire village into conservative Republicans, sources from the missions team confirmed Friday.

After contextualizing the basics of right-wing beliefs to the culture of the tribe for several months, the missionaries finally made a breakthrough as they communicated to the group their need for conservative political philosophy to save them from their sins. Finally, missionaries gave a moving altar call Thursday evening, and the village elders responded in faith, accepting Republicanism as Lord of their life.

The rest of the village soon followed.

"When the people saw the glory of our savior Donald Trump, they erupted into spontaneous celebration," one of the American missionaries said in an emotional video uploaded to Facebook. "It was so great to see these people finally abandon their un-American culture and embrace the gospel of the United States, forever changing their eternity."

At publishing time, missionaries had confirmed there was still much work to do, such as converting the village into middle-class white people.

[AnNahar] A man drove into a crowd of patrons gathered outside a bar in the southern city of Nimes early Friday, slightly wounding two before hitting a security barrier and being enjugged

The 32-year-old suspect, believed to be a local, sped towards a crowd of about 50 outside the bar at around 1:00 am (2300 GMT Thursday), witnesses at the scene told AFP.

However his white Peugeot ran into barriers set up for a popular weekend festival featuring bull-fighting which attracts thousands of people each year.

Several witnesses told AFP that the man shouted "Allahu Akbar" (God is Greatest) during the incident.

A source close to the investigation said the man was not known to police for suspected radicalisation.

The region's public prosecutor Eric Maurel said the suspect tried to flee but was caught and roughed up by the crowd.

He was in a state of "mental confusion" during his arrest and has been hospitalised, Maurel added.

An investigation has been opened into attempted murder.

11 die as driver rams car into crowd in China
[DAWN] Two more people have died after a driver ploughed into a crowded Chinese public square, bringing the corpse count to 11, local officials said on Thursday.

The incident on Wednesday evening injured another 44 people, according to officials from Hengdong city in central Hunan province.

Police have taken the driver ‐ a man in his 40s surnamed Yang ‐ into custody, describing him as a "vengeful repeat offender".

"He drove the car by himself into the crowd at Yujiang Square that night and had with him shovels and daggers to attack the crowd, intending to cause serious damage," a Thursday police statement said.

Yang’s previous offences included drug charges, theft and intentionally causing hurt, according to the statement. Pictures reportedly from the scene and shared on social media showed a red SUV with a crushed bumper.

Videos of the incident circulated briefly on social media, but were quickly removed by censors.

Violent crime has risen in China in recent decades as the country’s economic boom has widened the gap between rich and poor. Police have also previously blamed such attacks on murderous Moslem separatists.

US foreign-born population swells to highest in over a century
[DAWN] The number of foreign-born people in the United States grew last year to its highest share in over a century, according to Census Bureau data published on Thursday.

The increase took the number of foreign-born residents to 44.5 million in 2017, up 1.8 per cent from a year earlier.

The administration has said it wants to restrict legal immigration, and has stepped up efforts as well to detain and deport immigrants colonists in the country illegally since President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
took office in January 2017.

But so far, said Randy Capps, a demographer at the Migration Policy Institute, the government hasn’t restricted legal immigration much and America’s strong job market likely fuelled part of last year’s increase in the foreign-born population. "The economy’s definitely a factor in this, not just in more people coming but in more people staying," Capps said.

Foreign-born residents made up 13.7 per cent of the US population in 2017, up from 13.5 per cent in 2016, according to the Census Bureau’s estimates. That put the proportion of immigrants colonists in the United States last year at the highest since 1910, when they made up 14.7 per cent of the population.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
SAA reconquest of Idlib: no plan to attack Idlib city, Russia to target drone factories

Syrian Army has no offensive planned for Idlib city

[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) upcoming offensive in the Idlib Governorate will be limited to only certain parts of the province, a military source in Damascus told Al-Masdar News this weekend.

According to the source, the Syrian Army has offensives planned in northern Latakia, northern Hama, southeast Idlib, and southwest Idlib.

The source said that the offensives in Idlib will be limited to the Al-Ghaab Plain (SW Idlib), Jisr Al-Shughour (SW Idlib), and Abu Dhuhour area (SE Idlib).

He would add that the Syrian Army may push towards the outskirts of Saraqib and Ma’arat Nu’man, but this is still being discussed among the commanders of the Syrian Army and Russian military.

There has been much speculation recently that the Syrian Army would attempt to capture the entire Idlib Governorate; however, the military source said the army has not made these plans.

It appears that the main objective of these offensives is to seal the entire Idlib Governorare border with the Hama and Latakia governorates.

For Russia, retaking Jisr Al-Shughour is their primary objective, as it is the main launching point for the jihadist missiles and drones on the Hmeymim Airbase in southwest Latakia.

Russia vows to wipe out terrorist-run drone assembly workshops in Idlib

[AlMasdar] Russia has information where the terrorists assemble drones in Idlib and it will be eliminating these underground workshops, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a meeting of the German-Russian forum on Friday.

“We have intelligence information where drones are assembled in Idlib from components smuggled there,” he said. “As soon as we get such information, we will be eliminating such underground workshops that make lethal weapons.”

“What some describe as the beginning of a Russia-supported offensive by the Syrian army is malicious distortion of facts. Both the Syrian forces and we merely react to hit-and-run raids from Idlib,” Lavrov said. “It is very hard to detect drones with ordinary air defense weapons. Many of them are made of wood and cannot be seen on radar screens.”

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on September 5 that two Russian frontline bombers Sukhoi-34 wiped out a Jabhat al-Nusra (outlawed in Russia) workshop in Idlib, where militants assembled attack drones and kept in store ammunition for them.

In the early hours of September 4, air defense systems of the Hmeimim air base shot down two drones the militants hand launched. Both drones were eliminated far away from the base. Over the past month 47 drones have been shot down or neutralized in the area of the Russian base.

Syrian Army nearly splits ISIL’s Deir Ezzor pocket in half – map
[AlMasdar] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) is in serious trouble in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor, as they find themselves under a heavy attack from the Syrian military and Russian forces.

Led by their Elite Republican Guard, the Syrian Arab Army has managed to liberate a large chunk of the Islamic State-occupied pocket in western Deir Ezzor after launching this surprise operation earlier this week.

With help from the Russian Air Force, the Syrian Arab Army has liberated several points from the Islamic State this week, forcing them to fall back towards the T-3 Pumping Station near the Homs provincial border.

As a result of this advance, the Syrian Arab Army has nearly split the Islamic State’s pocket in half, while also shrinking it considerably over the last 72 hours.

According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army should be able to clear this entire pocket within a week, as the Islamic State continues to fall back in the Badiya al-Sham region.

Russian Air Force swarms ISIS-occupied areas in Suweida Governate in east Syria
[AlMasdar] The Russian Air Force has completely shifted their attention from the Idlib Governorate to eastern Syria.

Led by the Sukhoi jets, the Russian Air Force has been hammering the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) in eastern Syria for 72 hours straight.

These Russian airstrikes in the Al-Safa and Badiya Al-Sham regions have paved the way for the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their allies to advance through the Islamic State’s well-fortified defenses.

With the uncertainty surrounding the Idlib offensive, the Russian Air Force has spent the last few days launching airstrikes across the vast desert region of Syria.

This desert region is filled with Islamic State terrorists that escaped the Deir Ezzor, Homs, Al-Raqqa, and Al-Sweida governorates.

College student abducted and gang-raped in India's Haryana state
[DAWN] A college student was kidnapped and raped by three men in India's northern Haryana state while on her way home from a tuition class, the latest sexual attack to shock the country.

While no video footage was released to corroborate these claims, if it does indeed prove true, then the Saudi-backed forces will have scored an important advance that could elevate their assault in Hodeidah.

Hodeidah is the last major port that is under the control of the Houthi forces in western Yemen; if lost, the entire northern part of the country will be under a land, air, and sea siege.

Exciting Times: Radioactive material goes missing from truck in Malaysia prompting fears of militants building a dirty bomb
[Independent] The iridium was part of an industrial radiography device which disappeared while being carried on a pickup truck.

Two drivers were arrested but later released because of insufficient evidence, the New Straits Times reports.

The 23kg instrument was lost somewhere between the country’s capital Kuala Lumpur and the town of Seremban, some 37 miles away, on 10 August.

It is reported to belong to a company offering inspection services to the oil and gas industry.

It is unknown exactly how much iridium was in the device but the UN atomic agency has warned any loss or theft of radioactive material could put it in the hands of militants who might try to build a crude nuclear device.

Chelsea Hubbell Clinton: 'It's Un-Christian' to Oppose Abortion
[CNS] "It's un-Christian" to oppose the abortion of unborn children, former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton declared this week at a SiriusXM Town Hall.

Discussing the threat to the Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion posed by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Clinton said:

"When I think about all of the statistics that are painful, of what women are confronting today in our country, and what even more women confronted pre-Roe, and how many women died, and how many more women were maimed because of unsafe abortion practices ‐ we just can’t go back to that. That’s unconscionable to me.

"And, also--and I’m sure this will unleash another wave of hate in my direction--but: As a deeply religious person, it’s also un-Christian, to me."
How do you define deeply religious, my dear, and how do you define Christian? Do you apply both terms to yourself? Would those more conventionally viewed as religious Christians agree with both your definitions and your self-description?

Afghanistan
China, Pakistan To Extend Economic Corridor Towards Afghanistan
[ToloNews] Senior Chinese and Pak officials in a meeting in Islamabad decided to accelerate and extend the $50 billion China-Pakistain Economic Corridor towards Afghanistan, Indian media reported on Monday.

The meeting was held between China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi's and Pak officials in Islamabad this week, the report said.

Wang visited Pakistain from September 7 to 9 and held talks with Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who is the lightweight's lightweight...
’s cabinet members.

"Our bilateral cooperation to get off under the new circumstances," said Geng Shuang, Chinese Foreign Ministry front man, as quoted in a report by India’s The Economic Times.

He said China and Pakistain have agreed to extend the China-Pakistain Economic Corridor (CPEC) towards west to enable more people to benefit from it.

"The two sides will advance the CPEC in the light of Pakistain’s economic and social development and people's needs," Geng said. "We will identify the pathways and cooperation for the CPEC. We will accelerate the industrial cooperation and the projects of the people’s livelihoods and extend the CPEC to the western area and make the people gets benefits from it."

According to the report, India has India has protested over the economic corridor, a flagship project of China's Belt and Road Initiative as it traversed through the Pakistain-Indian Kashmiree (PoK).

Wang in April announced plans to extend it towards Afghanistan during the first trilateral foreign ministers meeting held in India.

The CPEC was originally conceived to be a strategic link with highways, rail and pipeline links between China's Xinjiang and Pakistain's Gwadar port.

But several projects have been extended to different provinces following allegations that all the main projects are garnered by Pakistain's dominant Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

province, the Economic Times reported.

Pakistain Prime Minister Imran Khan in the past had accused the previous Pak government of depriving other provinces, specially Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on the western borders with Afghanistan.

"During the (Wang's) visit, we have reached consensus on advancing the CPEC... The key is to accelerate industrial cooperation and the projects related with people's livelihoods. To extend the CPEC to the western areas and make the people get benefits from these project," Geng said.

During his visit to Pakistain, Wang said there were currently 22 cooperation projects in Pakistain within the framework of the CPEC of which nine have been completed and 13 are under construction.

The total investment of the projects was to the tune of $19 billion and they have created 70,000 new jobs, he was quoted as saying by the state-run Xinhua news agency.

Chinese officials said it is not the practice to announce any economic packages during China’sforeign minister's visit.

The new government of Pakistain said it will regard its ties with China as a cornerstone of its foreign policy.

UK legislators’ team rejects plea for Ishaq Dar’s deportation
[DAWN] A British parliamentary team has rejected a lobby petition demanding a parliamentary debate on the issue of deportation of former Pak finance minister Ishaq Dar, describing its contents as "libellous".

The petition started by an activist from the UK about a month ago has so far gathered around 82,000 signatures.

Under the UK parliamentary system, an individual or a group can highlight an issue of public importance through a lobby petition and get signatures to gather support for the cause. Once the petition gets over 100,000 signatures, the issue involved is debated in the House of Commons, the lower house of British parliament.

[REGNUM] Facebook will begin to check the authenticity of photographs and videos published by users. The verification of the facts stated in them will be carried out by 27 third-party companies from 17 countries. Thus, the company will struggle with a lot of misinformation.

Among the methods for identifying false information is the analysis of image metadata and search for previous publications on the Internet. Recognized by social networks, questionable photos and videos will be sent to Facebook partners for verification.

Russian users were skeptical of this innovation, based on the Wall Street Journal's information that it is aimed at fighting "Russian propagandists" who allegedly spread fake news.

In Sahiwal, headmistress critically injures minor for ‘using her toilet’
[DAWN] SAHIWAL: A public school headmistress tortured a Class II student for allegedly using her toilet in an emergency.

The incident happened at the Government Girls Middle School in village 2/10-L near Harappa city on Thursday noon.

Iram Shahzadi was so critically injured that she received 10 stitches to her private organs. Dr Zahid confirmed to Dawn over phone that the child’s private organs were maimed. She was admitted to the DHQ Hospital in a critical condition.

The girl’s family claimed when they submitted an application for registration of a case, Harappa police not only allegedly refused to register it, but also discouraged the girl’s father from moving against headmistress Farkhanda Batool.

The parents claimed that the police also refused to issue them a medical docket.

Sources said that on Friday Shahzadi’s parents succeeded in getting a medical docket from Harappa area magistrate Tajammul.

Shahzadi’s mother Sakeena Bibi told Dawn that the medical superintendent of DHQ teaching hospital conducted a medical examination of her daughter that confirmed critical injuries to her private parts. The parents demanded a departmental inquiry from the education chief executive officer and registration of a criminal case against the headmistress.

Iram Shahzadi, 6, is a resident of village 2/10-L. On Thursday morning at school, she wanted to use a toilet and in the urgency she used the headmistress’s toilet as the other washrooms were non-functional. When she came out, the headmistress saw her and started slapping Shahzadi.

Witnesses said the headmistress pushed and shoved the girl, who hit a cement wall and steps and started bleeding from her private parts. On seeing the blood, the headmistress took the girl to her room and locked the school’s main gate.

A witness said that later headmistress Batool took Shahzadi to her cousin’s house in the village and attempted to stop the bleeding. When the girl’s parents found out about the incident after two hours, they took their daughter to a private hospital where doctors examined her and gave her 10 stitches.

Sakeena told Dawn that the headmistress’s family, instead of apologising to them, were pressurising them against reporting the incident to the authorities.

"The headmistress’s relatives threatened us to be silent when we decided to move an application to Harappa cop shoppe," her husband, Riaz, added.

VDH - Demonization of Nunes Is a Window Into Our Times
[Real Clear Politics] Much of what we now know about the unethical and often illegal behavior of the FBI, CIA, National Security Agency and Department of Justice emerged due to the efforts of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Its chairman during its stunning disclosures has been Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), who in turn has been constantly demonized for his efforts.

Yet without the committee's digging, Americans would not have known that Hillary Clinton's campaign and the Democratic National Committee paid for an unsubstantiated 2016 dossier on Donald Trump compiled by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele.

Prior to the committee's work, we did not know that the FBI and Justice Department used unverified information from the Steele dossier to obtain a warrant from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court allowing for the surveillance of former Trump campaign aide Carter Page.

Without the committee's disclosures, Americans would not have had any idea that Bruce Ohr, who once ranked fourth in the Department of Justice hierarchy, coordinated opposition research on Trump with Steele, the FBI and Fusion GPS. Ohr took this unethical step because his wife was working for Fusion GPS -- a fact that was withheld on federal disclosure forms.

The Nunes-led committee also uncovered the names of prominent FBI and DOJ officials -- including James Comey, Andrew McCabe, Rod Rosenstein and Sally Yates -- who had approved FISA court warrant applications that were based on the largely discredited Steele dossier.

Most dramatically, we learned that members of the Obama administration had unmasked the names of U.S. citizens swept up in government surveillance. Many of those names were illegally leaked to the press. This disclosure forced former U.N. Ambassador Samantha Power and former National Security Adviser Susan Rice to confess that they had requested most of the unmaskings. Rice had previously denied it.

The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence also confirmed that FBI agents had interviewed former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and did not think he had lied to them concerning his contact with a top Russian diplomat.

No one so far has refuted the committee's findings. Yet Chairman Nunes has become the subject of unprecedented venom, largely because a spate of further embarrassing scandals at the FBI, DOJ and CIA have resulted from his committee's findings.

#5  More on that Innovation board. From wiki:

The Defense Innovation Board is an organization set up in 2016 to bring the technological innovation and best practice of Silicon Valley to the U.S. Military.[2] The board will have up to a dozen members selected by the chair (Eric Schmidt) in consultation with the US Secretary of Defense.[3]

Ash Carter, US Secretary of Defense, announced that the board, modeled on the Defense Business Board would facilitate the Pentagon becoming more innovative and adaptive.[2]

Joshua Marcuse is the inaugural and current Executive Director of the Defense Innovation Board.

The board traveled throughout the world during 2016 seeking innovative ideas from the servicemen involved in military operations to improve processes in use in all theaters of operation.

Yah, I'm sure they did, with open minds and hearts. Another Obama landmine.

#6  If you examine carefully Trump's tweets that so many pundits find objectionable and disgraceful, you will discover that he is answering even worse comments about him by the alleged victims of those tweets. He refuses to be insulted without retaliating, and that is what irks.
In the past republicans rarely commented upon being reviled and constant slander against them gave hostile politicians and their toadies in the press and entertainment world great influence on the gullible.
Think of Harry Reid repeating dozens of times that Romney didn't pay taxes.
Trump knows that it is the last and most publicized comment that people remember, and the press amplifying and repeating his tweets actually makes the tweets more influential and causes us to forget the original insult entirely, instead of being influenced by it.
Thus the press, in its hatred of Trump becomes his best propagandist.
Only his worst enemies care about his tweets and the rest of us have come to find them amusing and harmless.

#8  An arm of the Democrat Party:

McRaven becomes the third of the original announced members of the board to drop off. Amazon head Jeff Bezos, a frequent target from Trump, was announced as part of the DIB when it launched. However, the Post reported earlier this year that Bezos never actually took a seat on the board. And Cass Sunstein, a top adviser to President Barack Obama who had attended several meetings of the board early on, is also no long listed as part of the group on its website.

Science & Technology
Claim: Proxima B exoplanet might have an ocean
A nearby exoplanet orbiting within the habitable zone of a star just 4.2 light-years from Earth may be home to a vast ocean, boosting its chances of supporting life.

Since its discovery, questions about the conditions at the surface of Proxima b have been swirling; the planet’s mass is just about 1.3 times that of Earth’s, and the red dwarf star it circles is similar in age to our sun.

Studies over the last few years, however, have both bolstered hopes of its habitability and shot them down.

Now, a new study has once again raised the possibility that Proxima b could support life, suggesting that under the right conditions, the exoplanet could sustain liquid water.

Pipe bomb thrown at IDF troops on Gaza fence; soldiers respond with fire
[IsraelTimes] Three Paleostinians were spotted crawling towards the Gazoo border fence in the early hours of Friday morning before they threw a pipe bomb at soldiers patrolling the area, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

The troops, who were not hit by the bomb and sustained no injuries, responded by firing at the Paleostinians, the army said in a statement.

There were no reports of Paleostinian injuries.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
British Lawmaker Worries You're Using Hate Speech
[Reason] U.K. Parliament member Lucy Powell of the Labour Party wants to use her government authority to ban your private online group discussions.

I'm not exaggerating here. Powell introduced legislation in the House of Commons this week that would ban secret, private, invite-only groups on Facebook. It would go so far as to hold moderators legally responsible for hate speech or defamation on the forums.

Powell believes that secret online groups are responsible for radicalization (rather than the more logical likelihood that radicalization prompts people to seek out private online outlets). And she has this strange idea that outrageous ideas presented on social media outlets simply don't get challenged. She writes in The Guardian:

Online echo chambers are normalising and allowing extremist views to go viral unchallenged. These views are spread as the cheap thrill of racking up Facebook likes drives behaviour and reinforces a binary worldview. Some people are being groomed unwittingly as unacceptable language is treated as the norm. Others have a more sinister motive.

While in the real world, alternative views would be challenged by voices of decency in the classroom, staffroom, or around the dining-room table, there are no societal norms in the dark crevices of the online world. The impact of these bubbles of hate can be seen, in extreme cases, in terror attacks from radicalised individuals. But we can also see it in the rise of the far right, with Tommy Robinson supporters rampaging through the streets this summer, or in increasing Islamophobia and antisemitism.

In fact, extremist views get challenged all the time, online and elsewhere, by people like Powell and by many, many others. But she doesn't really mean that these views aren't being "challenged." What she means is that these radical views aren't being punished.

Powell notes that allowing private groups to exist "locks out the police, intelligence services and charities that could otherwise engage with the groups and correct disinformation." By "correct disinformation" she actually means "prosecute people." She doesn't say as much in her Guardian column, but her motion for consideration of the bill explicitly says that too few people have been prosecuted under the United Kingdom's Communications Act, which criminalizes online hate speech. She makes it clear that she doesn't think enough people are being punished by the government for saying bad things. This is not about correcting disinformation at all:

German spy scandal exposes deep divisions in Merkel government
[Rooters] A scandal over migrants colonists being chased through the streets has exposed a rift between Angela Merkel
...chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom. Now they make faces at her for inundating the country with Moslems ..
and Germany’s security establishment that is dividing her coalition and hindering efforts to contain the fall-out from her "open door" refugee policy.

The crisis blew up when Hans-Georg Maassen, chief of the BfV intelligence agency, said he was not convinced far-right bully boyz had attacked migrants colonists in the eastern city of Chemnitz last month and a video said to show the violence may be fake.

Afghanistan
President Ghani Insists Trump’s Taliban Strategy Is Working
[ToloNews] As insecurity grows in parts of the country along with political issues around elections and the grinding of the peace processor, President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
says the US strategy to win the war against the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
is working.

"For the first time, the possibility of peace is really at hand," President Ghani said in an interview with VICE News on September 13.

But the country’s security situation offers little to be hopeful about. The number of civilians killed in Afghanistan reached a record high in the first half of the year according to a UN report in July.

The report said the covering period, 1 January to 30 June 2018, findings include the killing of more civilians in the first six months of this year ‐ 1,692 deaths ‐ than at any comparable time over the last ten years since records have been kept.

Deaths rose 1 percent to 1,692, although injuries dropped 5 percent to 3,430, the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
Assistance Mission in Afghanistan said in its latest civilian casualty report. Overall civilian casualties were down 3 percent.

Many areas in the country are either under Taliban’s control or have remain contested between government forces and bully boys, according to security officials. Over 200 people have been killed since mid-August in deadly incidents in Kabul and Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
Despite all these challenges, talking to the VICE News, President Ghani insisted that there is reason to believe that this time will be different. He pointed to the Eid al-Fitr ceasefire between government forces and Taliban as a proof that the country is moving forward towards peace.

"The ceasefire showed that this country is ready for reconciliation," Ghani said in the interview. "We are offering to overcome the past grievances and move forward and this I think is genuine because if they insist on a military victory that’s something the Afghans will not accept."

This comes after President Ghani at a gathering in Kabul on Thursday talked in favor of the US’s South Asia Strategy for Afghanistan and said "Afghans waited for the US’s South Asia Strategy for the past 40 years".

"The US strategy for Afghanistan and the South Asia strategy is a thing for which the people of Afghanistan were waiting for forty years," said Ghani.

Caribbean-Latin America
Exciting Times: Mexico on HIGH ALERT after dangerous radioactive material stolen from Mexico City truck
[Express] They said the substance presents a “low risk” to the public, but could cause cancer or other long term problems to people who are in contact with it “for a few hours”.

The material contains Iridium - 192, a radioactive isotope used in construction and manufacturing.

According to local media, the container belonged to a radiography company.

It was made of stainless steel and was covered in radioactive hazard markings.

The employee left the truck unattended in the Alvaro Obregon area of Mexico City last week.

When he returned and saw the vehicle had disappeared, he contacted the authorities.

There have been several incidents of missing or stolen radioactive material in Mexico in recent months.

In February, thieves targeted a vehicle in the city of Leon, taking a nuclear densometer, a device used in geotechnical engineering to measure density.

Other material was reported stolen in April.

Authorities warned people not to go near the container and establish a safety perimeter of at least 30 metres if it is found.
