Clarence Thomas words of wisdom and comments on Booker as 'Spartacus'
[FOX] Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas poked Sen. Cory Booker over the New Jersey Democrat's much-mocked invocation of "Spartacus" during last week's confirmation hearings for Brett Kavanaugh.

Booker was roundly ridiculed after threatening to defy the Senate rules and release what he thought were confidential documents concerning Kavanaugh’s past, "This is about the closest I’ll probably ever have in my life to an ’I am Spartacus’ moment," said Booker.

Thomas, who called his own contentious confirmation hearing back in 1991 a "high-tech lynching," took a jab at Booker during a conversation with the Federalist Society that aired Wednesday on C-SPAN.

"Honorable ‐ if we could use that word about more people who are in public life, people who actually ask the questions at confirmation hearings, instead of 'Spartacus,'" Thomas said, prompting loud laughter in the audience.

Britain
Russians Surface: Men claiming to be Salisbury suspects say they were only visiting cathedral
[MSN] The two men identified as suspects in the Salisbury nerve agent attack appeared on Russia’s state-funded TV station RT on Thursday, claiming they had visited the "wonderful" English city as tourists to see its cathedral.

The pair, who said their names were Ruslan Boshirov and Alexander Petrov, appeared to resemble men shown in stills from CCTV cameras released by British police investigating the attempted murder of Sergei Skripal, a Russian ex-spy who passed information to the British.

British police say that the names used by the men are aliases and that there is evidence that they are Russian military intelligence agents.

In the interview the men said they had both been in Salisbury and were the people identified in the CCTV stills.

"Our friends had been suggesting for a long time that we visit this wonderful town," the man identified as Alexander Petrov said.

Boshirov added that the two had gone to visit Salisbury Cathedral, noting its high spire.

He said: "There’s the famous Salisbury Cathedral, famous not just in Europe, but in the whole world. It’s famous for its 123-metre spire, it’s famous for its clock, the first one [of its kind] ever created in the world, which is still working."

An anchor said the station would air more of the interview later during the show, but written highlights of the interview were posted online by RT before the video was released.
In the interview, Boshirov said that while they walked around Salisbury, the two men "maybe approached Skripal’s house, but we didn’t know where it was located".

The interview appeared to show that Russia was not planning to deny the veracity of video evidence released by Scotland Yard, but just to argue it had been misinterpreted.

On Wednesday, Vladimir Putin called for the two men to speak with the media during an economic conference in Vladivostok. He said the two men were innocent and "civilians", apparently contradicting accusations by Scotland Yard that they were agents of Russian military intelligence.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Are You Ready For The Michelle Obama Book Tour?
How many people will they have to pay to make the crowd size look good? No one reads these fucking books anyway...
[Yahoo News] - NEW YORK (AP) ‐ Michelle Obama will visit 10 cities to promote her memoir "Becoming," a tour featuring arenas and other performing centers to accommodate crowds far too big for any bookstore.

The former first lady will begin at the United Center in her native Chicago on Nov. 13, the book's release date. She will finish at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on Dec. 17, Live Nation and the Crown Publishing Group announced Wednesday. In between, appearances will include Barclays Center in New York City, the Pepsi Center Arena in Denver and The Forum in Los Angeles.
Hmmm... - Nov. 24th, the day after Thanksgiving (?), Boston's TD Garden, eh? I don't care how many people she pays off to show up, she's not filling even 1/4 of that place (17,565). $10 says they move it to the Orpheum (2,700) at the last minute. Ima hoping someone shows up in a wookie costume just to bust her chops.

Nearly 250,000 refugees have returned to Syria from abroad – Russia
[AlMasdar] Nearly 250,000 refugees have returned to Syria from abroad since the campaign for the return of refugees began, Head of the Russian National Defense Management Center Colonel General Mikhail Mizintsev said at a briefing on Wednesday.

"Thanks to the measures taken, a total of 1,472,637 Syrians have been able to return home," he said, adding that "1,230,342 internally displaced persons have returned and another 242,295 Syrian refugees have come back from abroad," the Russian general added.

He pointed out that more countries were joining the efforts aimed at facilitating the return of Syrian refugees. In particular, Morocco’s authorities have expressed readiness to pay the travel expenses of those willing to return to their home country and provide the refugees with the financial assistance of $150 per person.

Mizintsev also said that Armenia had been providing assistance to Syria on a regular basis, planning to carry out another humanitarian mission in the province of Aleppo in the near future.

The general pointed to the ongoing work to reconstruct Syria’s infrastructure facilities. "Over the past week, 143 residential dwellings, two schools, two medical facilities, two kindergartens, two bakeries, seven water supply stations, three power substations, three motor bridges and 14 industrial facilities were rebuilt," Mizintsev said. The reconstruction of schools, pre-school facilities and other infrastructure facilities continues in 160 Syrian settlements.

Attempts are being made to discourage refugees residing in Syria’s neighboring states from returning to their home country, he added.

According to him, special questionnaires allegedly sponsored by a United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
high commissioner are being used for that purpose.

"These questionnaires are aimed at raising doubts in the minds of Syrians who have decided to return home and make them eventually change their decision," the Russian general said.

"We do not rule out that these questionnaires are used by forces not linked to official United Nations agencies," he added.

Alexander Morozov, an academician with the International Academy of Psychological Sciences, in turn, said the list of questions proved that those compiling the questionnaires did not try to remain impartial and use neutral words but sought to exert psychological pressure on refugees.

[AlMasdar] The newly appointed U.S. special envoy for Syria, James Jeffrey, announced on Friday that his nation will not be pulling their forces from Syria this year.

In the video, the Syrian Arab Army spy tours another town in rural Idlib, despite ongoing efforts by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham to crackdown on these spies and government sympathizers.

The official media wing of the Tiger Forces released the video on their page with the message: “we will terrorize them in every city, town, village, and neighborhood.”

The Syrian Arab Army has been releasing these types of videos recently in an effort to pressure the jihadist rebels to surrender their positions in Idlib.

While the jihadist rebels have yet to surrender any areas, they have launched a security campaign to arrest these spies in the Idlib Governorate.

Sweida: failed ISIS breakout beaten back, video of kidnapped Yezidi
Several ISIS terrorists killed in failed attempt to breakout of besieged volcanic region

(AlMasdar] (10:00 A.M.) – Scores of Islamic State (ISIS) militants were killed in a new bid by the terrorist group to breakout of the besieged Al-Safa region last night.

The Islamic State began their attack last night in the Al-Safa region by storming the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions at the northeastern axis of this volcanic.

Following an intense battle with the Syrian Army at the northeastern axis of the mountain, the Islamic State terrorists were forced to fall back in order to avoid suffering anymore casualties.

According to a military source in the Sweida province, the Syrian Arab Army managed to kill at least seven Islamic State militants, including two snipers that were spotted behind enemy lines.

The Syrian Army would also destroy a technical vehicle that was used by the terrorist group during the short battle last night.

This breakout attempt by the Islamic State marks the second time in the last 24 hours that they have tried to flee the Al-Safa region.

Syrian Army liberates more territory in southern Syria

[AlMasdar] (11:00 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) resumed their offensive in southern Syria, today, after foiling a big attack by the Islamic State (ISIS) in the Al-Safa region last night.

Led by their 3rd and 10th divisions, the Syrian Arab Army struck the Islamic State’s defenses early this morning, forcing the latter to fall back after their front-lines were fractured.

With the Islamic State on the run, the Syrian Arab Army was able to sweep through the abandoned areas in the Al-Safa region and fully secure the territory before the terrorist group could regroup.

Following the Syrian Arab Army’s advance, their air force unleashed a flurry of airstrikes over the Al-Safa region.

The Syrian Air Force launched at least ten airstrikes over the Islamic State’s positions, which caused significant damage to the terrorist group’s trenches and installations.

ISIS releases new video of kidnapped civilians from Sweida city

[AlMasdar] (8:00 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIS) sent a new video to the families of the kidnapped civilians from the Sweida Governorate this week.

The ISIS video showed several of the kidnapped civilians inside of a building in an undisclosed location that is controlled by the terrorist group.

What is bizarre about the home is the fact that there are no residential buildings in the Al-Safa region because it is primarily a volcanic area.

According to a military report from Sweida, the Islamic State managed to sneak the captives out of the Al-Safa region and moved them to the areas they control in the Deir Ezzor Governorate.

Jaish Islam denies preparing for new battle in Aleppo
[AlMasdar] Jaish al-Islam
...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism. The group claimed responsibility for carrying out the July 2012 Damascus bombing that killed Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Asef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. It was a driving force behind actions in the Damascus region. It cooperated and conducted joint operations with al-Nusra. In Sptember 2013 Saudi Arabia engineered Liwa al-Islam's merger with fifty other more or less Salafist groups as a counterweight to al-Nusra, which the Learned Elders of Islam considered was growing too powereful...
rebel group denied it is preparing for a new battle in northern Syria as the Syrian Army mulls full-scale offensive.

“The reports released by SOHR about going for a new battle in Aleppo are groundless”, Jaish al-Islam spokesman, Hamza Bayraqdar, said.

Bayraqdar added that the monitor group didn’t cited an official source from Jaish al-Islam, rather its reports were merely speculations.

“We just released footage for the group’s general commander, Issam Bwaidani, while touring our fighters’ positions in northern countryside of Aleppo”, he commented.

Last week, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claimed it had obtained ‘credible information’ about recently-made deployments for Jaish al-Islam fighters.

Thousands of the Saudi-backed militants were evacuated with their families to Syria’s north coming from East Ghouta region as per a deal with the Syrian government.

Britain
Skripal suspects: 'We were just tourists in Salisbury'
[BBC] Two men named as suspects in the poisoning of a Russian ex-spy in the UK have said they were merely tourists.

The men, named as Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov, told the RT channel that they went sightseeing in Salisbury but returned to London within an hour.

They are accused by the UK of trying to kill Russian ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in March.

The UK has described them as agents of Russia's military intelligence service, the GRU.

"The town was covered by this slush. We got wet, took the nearest train and came back" to London, they told RT, Russia's state-run international broadcaster.

Government
Special operations boom years may be coming to a close
[Yahoo] Congress and the Pentagon want to rein in and reorient America’s vaunted special operations forces, perhaps relegating them to the supporting roles they played before the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

For the past 17 years, special operations forces have been at the forefront of America’s military campaigns in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Africa. They took the lead in toppling the Taliban after the Sept. 11 attacks, reversing the gains of al-Qaida in Iraq, and capturing or killing thousands of militants, from Anwar al-Awlaki in Yemen to Osama bin Laden in Pakistan. During that period, their strength has grown from about 45,000 personnel in 2001 to roughly 70,000, and they are now leading the fight against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.

Yet they’ve also suffered setbacks recently, including reports of drug use, the ambush of a special forces team in Niger that raised questions about the scope of missions in that country, and the investigation of two Navy SEALs in connection with the death of a Special Forces soldier in Mali.

Now, Congress and the Pentagon are trying to bring more oversight to special operations forces while reorienting them away from combating militants and toward fighting more traditional nation-states.

Congress made its view clear in this year’s defense authorization bill, which President Trump signed into law on Aug. 13. The Pentagon’s 14-page unclassified summary of this year’s National Defense Strategy does not mention special operations, and says that "inter-state strategic competition, not terrorism, is now the primary concern in U.S. national security."

#1  Now, Congress and the Pentagon are trying to bring more oversight to special operations forces while reorienting them away from combating militants and toward fighting more traditional nation-states.

Congress sees it for what it has become, ie, a separately funded (separate from 'big Army') Klingon action arm.

#2  There are distinct philosophical questions:
"Do we really want to have a clandestine paramilitary force as a large fraction of our total military?
"Do we have that pressing a need for a 'Standing COIN Army'?"
"What keeps them from mutating into a (corrupt) Praetorian Guard?"

#3  There are distinct philosophical questions

Funding allocation is different than having a ready group of hard and highly trained soldiers that can be deployed anywhere, on short notice.

"Congress and the Pentagon are trying to bring more oversight to special operations forces while reorienting them away from combating militants and toward fighting more traditional nation-states."

Frightening keywords here are militants vs. nation-states. This does NOT say 'prep BIG army for international conflict'. It says dull the tools of today to fight a unlikely conflict between nations.

With Democratic Party politicians and press whipping their true believers into a frenzy, violent acts by liberals are becoming more common.

Home Depot Co-Founder Challenges Mueller ‐ ‘Come Out and Say What You've Got
[Daily Caller] Home Depot co-founder Ken Langone on Wednesday called for an end to the Mueller investigation and defended Donald Trump’s legitimacy as president.

Langone expressed skepticism when responding to Fox News host Neil Cavuto’s question about Bob Woodward’s book and the anonymous New York Times op-ed criticizing President Trump.

"I’m suspicious that we’re getting close to a mid-term election and this anonymous op-ed, Woodward’s book and I’m also intrigued by the number of people that he cites in the book that have come out vocally and passionately saying ’I didn’t say that.’ Come on."

"Forget about it," Langone said when asked about former President Obama’s recent return to the national stage as a Trump critic. "Obama ought to do what every other great president did. Go off into the sunset. Be the mother of the groom. Wear beige and keep your mouth shut."

"Give the guy credit," the Home Depot co-founder said, noting Trump’s accomplishments in negotiating with North Korea before calling for an end to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation as a hindrance to President Trump’s legitimacy.

Chemophobia: Origins and Legislated Existence

The origins of this post, at least, and the ones I have planned to follow on, stem in the recent decision by a court to fine the ever-livin’ daylights out of a company based not on science, but the science illiteracy of a judge and jury, and the politicization of science. I’m speaking, of course, of the ruling that accused Roundup of being a cancer-causing substance, . Science says it isn’t. The legal system says it is. Who is telling the truth, here?>

'Threats of Rape and Strangling' Force D.C. McAllister Into Hiding After Anti-Abortion Tweet
[PJ] Last week, PJ Media contributor and Fox News guest Denise McAllister sent out a powerful tweet denouncing the abortion movement. Little did she know, days later she would be in hiding, scared for her life. When she went public about receiving death and rape threats, pro-abortion Twitter users championed the threats against her.

"At the root of [abortion] hysteria is women’s unhinged desire for irresponsible sex. Sex is their god. Abortion is their sacrament," McAllister tweeted. "It’s abhorrent as women have flung themselves from the heights of being the world’s civilizing force to the muck and mire of dehumanizing depravity."

At the root of #abortion hysteria is women’s unhinged desire for irresponsible sex. Sex is their god. Abortion is their sacrament. It’s abhorrent as women have flung themselves from the heights of being the world’s civilizing force to the muck and mire of dehumanizing depravity.

As if to prove McAllister's point about depravity, abortion activists jumped on her case, calling her everything from crazy to misogynist to a supporter of "The Handmaid's Tale."

Trump Derangement Syndrome update: Sociology professor shoots himself to ‘protest Trump'
[American Thinker] Trump Derangement Syndrome is now a public health issue, with sufferers of this new form of mass hysteria manifesting both a danger to society with violent aggression and extreme self-destructive behavior.

Yesterday, we noted the alleged attempted assassination of GOP congressional candidate Rudy Peters by a man named Farzad Fazeli, who behaved in a deranged manner with an inept and disorganized assassination attempt:

According to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, 35-year old Castro Valley resident Farzad Fazeli walked past Peters info booth making disparaging and profanity laden political remarks about Donald Trump. Fazeli then became aggressive and reached for a concealed switchblade to stab Peters while making threats.

Now, details are emerging about sociology professor emeritus Mark J. Bird, who shot himself on August 28 in a bathroom at the College of Southern Nevada, on the first day of class at that community college. Rob Lacanlale of the Las Vegas Review-Journal revealed that Professor Bird:

Anti-Kremlin Pussy Riot activist seriously ill in hospital: colleagues
MOSCOW (Reuters) - Prominent anti-Kremlin activist Pyotr Verzilov is seriously ill and in hospital, members of the Pussy Riot protest band with whom he collaborated said late on Wednesday, suggesting he may have been poisoned.

Verzilov, 30, staged a brief pitch invasion during the soccer World Cup final in Moscow in July along with three women affiliated to the anti-Kremlin punk band and is the publisher of Mediazona, a Russian online news outlet which focuses on human rights violations inside Russia’s penal system.

"Our friend, brother, comrade Petr Verzilov is in reanimation. His life is in danger. We think that he was poisoned," Pussy Riot said on its official Twitter feed.

Sergei Smirnov, editor-in-chief of Mediazona, struck a more cautious note however, confirming on social media that Verzilov was in hospital but saying nobody knew his diagnosis, making it difficult to understand what was going on.

Online news portal Meduza cited Veronika Nikulshina, who it said was Verzilov’s girlfriend, describing how he had been rushed to hospital on Tuesday night after he started to lose his eyesight and ability to talk and walk.

Dem Candidate Received State Tax Credits While Living in South Africa
[Free Beacon] Democratic congressional candidate Scott Wallace's taxes suggest he was out of the country for more than two years while receiving tax credits in Maryland that require residency in the state for at least six months out of the year.

Wallace, a wealthy progressive philanthropist, is challenging first-term Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick in Pennsylvania's 1st Congressional District. Before moving back to the district to run for office, Wallace spent time in Maryland and South Africa running the Wallace Global Fund, his family's foundation, which has given millions to radical left-wing groups.

Wallace was hit with a $70,000 tax lien in Maryland, which the Congressional Leadership Fund, a group backed by House Majority Leader Paul Ryan (R., Wis.), has hammered the Democrat for. Wallace countered the group by releasing an advertisement and his campaign said that he had paid his taxes in full upon seeing his bills.

Kerry: ‘We Knew That Assad Had Kept Some' Chemical Weapons
[Free Beacon] Former Secretary of State John Kerry said Wednesday that the Obama administration knew that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad kept some of his chemical weapons despite an international agreement brokered to remove the entire stockpile by mid-2014.

"We said we got a hundred percent of the declared weapons out, which is what the Organization for the [Prohibition] of Chemical Weapons was able to track," Kerry said on Fox News. "We knew that Assad had kept some, and we tried to go to the [United Nations] Security Council, and, unfortunately, Russia played games and we didn't get there."

In 2013, the United States and Russia struck a deal to remove Syria's entire arsenal of chemical weapons from the country by the middle of 2014. Kerry and other Obama administration officials publicly touted the deal as a major success.

"We struck a deal where we got 100 percent of the chemical weapons out," Kerry said on NBC's "Meet the Press" in 2014.

President Obama, on Aug. 18, 2014: "Today we mark an important achievement in our ongoing effort to counter the spread of weapons of mass destruction by eliminating Syria's declared chemical weapons stockpile."

Kerry on Oct. 31, 2014: "We ... cut the deal that got 100 percent of the declared chemical weapons out of Syria, and people nevertheless have been critical -- of one day of bombing versus the virtue of getting 100 percent of the chemical weapons out of Syria."

Kerry reiterated the accomplishment on Feb. 24, 2015, telling the Senate Foreign Relations Committee: "We got, as you know, last year, all the chemical weapons out of Syria."

True, Bloomberg reported on May 13, 2015: "The U.S. government was informed months ago that an international monitoring body found traces of chemical weapons that President Bashar al-Assad had promised to turn over, including sarin gas -- a clear violation of the deal he struck with President Obama after crossing the administration's 'red line' two years ago.

Six dead, including gunman and his wife, in Bakersfield shooting rampage
[LA Times] A gunman killed five people in back-to-back shootings in Bakersfield on Wednesday evening before turning the gun on himself when he was confronted by a deputy, authorities said.

The violence began about 5:20 p.m., when the man showed up to a trucking business with his wife and confronted another man, Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood told reporters. The husband shot and killed his wife and the man.

When a third man showed up, the gunman chased him to the nearby Bear Mountain Sports shop and fatally shot him. The gunman, who was not identified, then went to a home nearby and shot and killed two more people.

Youngblood said the gunman then carjacked a woman who had a child in her vehicle. Both victims were able to escape as the gunman drove to Edison Highway, where he was spotted by a deputy.

The man pulled into a lot and when the deputy approached, the man shot himself in the chest.

Evergreen State sees 'catastrophic' drop in enrollment after social justice meltdown

[FoxNews] Evergreen State College enrollment plummeted after fallout from the controversial "Day of Absence" in May 2017 when all white people were asked to leave the campus.

The publicly funded college – committed to social justice – became the poster child of a campus overrun by hyper-political correctness when students shut down the campus and shouted down then-evolutionary biology professor Bret Weinstein for merely questioning the event kicking white people off campus.

Weinstein, who describes himself as "deeply progressive," ultimately lost his job and was labeled a "racist" and "white supremacist."

Although just estimates, a representative from Evergreen said they expect around 350 freshman this fall, with a total of 3,000-3,100 total enrollment, both of which "do represent significant decreases as compared to before the 2017 unrest."

US-backed forces enter strategic town in Euphrates Valley – map
[AlMasdar] (7:00 P.M.) ‐ The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) scored a new advance in the Euphrates River Valley, today, after another fierce battle with the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) terror organization.

Backed by US and French Arclight airstrikes, the Syrian Democratic Forces were able to break into the strategic town of Baghouz Fouqani after advancing from the Baghouz Tahtani axis in southeast Deir Ezzor.

According to the SDF’s official media wing, their troops managed to advance into Baghouz Fouqani, seizing the local council building and Sheikh Hamad Primary School after overrunning the Islamic State’s positions.

The Syrian Democratic Forces are now attempting to seize all of Baghouz Fouqani in a bid to fully secure the Iraqi border.

State Dept. Email: Bob Woodward ‐ Who Just Published Anti-Trump Book ‐ Has Been FBI Asset Since 1970s
[GP] Woodward paints a portrayal of the Trump White House as having a "nervous breakdown" and an "administrative coup d’etat".

The book was meant as a hit piece on President Trump and his administration. What comes across is what Trump supporters already know about Trump: He relies on his instincts, he is learning as he goes and has been beset by disloyal operatives determined to preserve the ways of Washington, D.C., and prevent him from ’draining the swamp.’

Several top Trump officials have already disputed Woodward’s facts as complete rubbish.

Never the less, Woodward is out making the rounds on the liberal media trashing President Trump and his historically successful administration.

But here is something that is not being reported. It is clear today that the top levels of the FBI and DOJ were actively working to sabotage the Trump campaign and the Trump administration. This is the largest political scandal in US history that is not being reported on by the liberal mainstream media.

Now this...

According to a State Department email from Sid Blumenthal to Hillary Clinton Bob Woodward has been an FBI asset ever since his Deep Throat days.

Obama-Hillary Fired Benghazi Heroes When they Got to Germany – Made Them Find Their Own Way Back to US (VIDEO)
[GP] FOX News Special Report said the president knew about the attacks three hours after they began.

Obama went to bed.

US military contractors battled Islamist extremists for 13 hours while Obama slept.

Today is the sixth anniversary of the Islamist attacks on the US consulate in Benghazi.

On Tuesday former Congressman Jason Chaffetz told Sean Hannity the rest of the story.

Chaffetz was the first US lawmaker to arrive in Benghazi after the attacks.

Tonight Chaffetz told Sean Hannity that the Benghazi heroes were fired after the arrived in Germany after the attacks.

Obama-Hillary fired them and they had to find their own way back to America.

And then the Obama admin took away their security clearances so they could no longer get work inside the government.

Ad Exposes Minnesota Democrat’s Brushes with Law
[BREITBART] A brutal new ad will hit Democrat Joe Radinovich in Minnesota over his history with criminal convictions, license suspensions, and having been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, Breitbart News has learned.

The ad, from the House GOP leadership-backed Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF), is perhaps one of the most brutal this cycle. It literally shows an illegal aluminum foil drug-smoking device to illustrate how Radinovich was charged by police back on Feb. 4, 2005, with possession of drug paraphernalia.

But that’s not all: The ad counts off Radinovich’s 18 various criminal charges, dozens of traffic violations, multiple driver’s license suspensions, and argues that this Democrat is not fit to serve in Congress due to his record.

"Joe Radinovich wants to go to Congress to make laws, but he’s spent his life running from the law," CLF front man Michael Byerly said in a statement accompanying the ad. "Radinovich’s run-ins with the law include 18 different crimes, five drivers’ license suspensions, even a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Joe Radinovich isn’t fit to serve in Congress. Minnesota families deserve better."

Court records obtained by Breitbart News show that Radinovich was charged on Feb. 4, 2005, with possession of prohibited drug paraphernalia and he pled "not guilty" on March 21, 2005. The case went to trial on July 6, 2005, and Radinovich received what is known as a "continued for dismissal" disposition on the drug paraphernalia charge.

In Minnesota, prosecuting attorneys will sometimes offer a continuance for dismissal on charges pending compliance by the defendant with certain terms for a period of time when the case is later dismissed. Per the court records, Radinovich agreed to comply with random drug testing at his own expense. But those records also show Radinovich‐a month after receiving the continuance‐received a delinquent payment notice.

Two months after the continuance on the drug charge, Radinovich’s driver’s license was suspended. In December 2005, Radinovich was found guilty of driving without a license‐while it was suspended. Later, in 2006 and 2007, he was convicted and found guilty of driving with a revoked or suspended driver’s license in two separate incidents.

Pakistani militants among 35 killed in Paktia operations: Officials
[KhaamaPress] The local authorities in southeastern Paktia province are saying at least 35 gunnies including a number of Pak gunnies have been killed during the operations in this province.

The operations are being conducted as part of Thunder-2 operations and the casualties on the gunnies were inflicted in Zurmat and in the outskirts of Gardez city.

The Commander of Thunder Corps Rohullah Khalil Oghli said at least 35 gunnies have been killed and at least 50 others have sustained injuries during the operations.

He said the operations are being conducted with the support of airpower and artillery strikes.

Oghli further added that the Afghan forces have the capabilities to eliminate the Afghan and foreign gunnies and the latest casualties inflicted on the gunnies is an example of the growing capabilities of the armed forces.

In the meantime, the provincial government in a statement said scores of gunnies have been killed or maimed during the operations in the past two months.

The statement further added that more than twenty bases and outposts have been established along the Zurmat route and Gardez-Zurmat highway.

Pat Robertson Casts ‘Shield Of Protection' Ahead Of Hurricane Florence
Ohfergawdsake.
In a clip posted online by Right Wing Watch, he asked followers to “put a hand out toward the Atlantic” and repeat an incantation.

“In the name of Jesus, you Hurricane Florence, we speak to you in the name of Jesus, and we command the storm to cease its forward motion and go harmlessly into the Atlantic. Go up north away from land and veer off in the name of Jesus. We declare in the name of the lord that you shall go no farther, you shall do no damage in this area.”

He also declared a “shield of protection” over the Virginia area in which he was speaking and around “innocent people” in the storm’s path.
The old charlatan never hesitates to make himself look foolish. The shade of Simon Magus is please. My apologies to anyone who takes him seriously (Pat Robertson, not Simon Magus).

Alamo Heros Will Stay But Moses May Have to Go From Texas History Textbooks
[DallasNews] "GREAT NEWS," he tweeted. "State Board signals it will keep reference to 'heroic' Alamo defenders in Texas history curriculum. They died fighting for Texas independence. That is the epitome of heroic. Thanks to all Texas patriots who weighed in."

Commissioner Bush balked at the possibility that he overestimated the issue's importance.

"I hardly think that the Commissioner, as Guardian of the Alamo, has overblown the issue," Texas General Land Office press secretary Karina Erickson told The News. "Bush's quote speaks best: 'The Alamo defenders and their highest values must stay in the Texas history curriculum. Period.' "

MOSES AND MORE
While the Alamo and Travis letter took up much of the debate Tuesday, members of the public also weighed in on the thousands of other proposed changes to the state's social studies standards.

The State Board of Education last updated the standards in 2010, approving several requirements pushed by the board's most conservative members, including teaching Texas high schoolers that Moses "informed the American founding documents."

The board also decided that students should have to "compare and contrast" the First Amendment clause barring establishment of a state religion with the doctrine of the separation of church and state.

Now, the board will consider axing the 2010 standards and amending several others, like moving "slavery" to the head of a list of the causes of the Civil War. Currently, slavery comes in the middle of a the list that also includes states' rights, sectionalism and protective tariffs.

"I appreciate history is complicated," Emile Lester, a political science professor from the University of Mary Washington, told the board when he spoke in favor of removing the reference to Moses. "But sometimes right is right and wrong is wrong."

Over 50 casualties in two bomb blasts in Salahuddin
Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) Over forty people were killed and injured, as a result of an kaboom that targeted a restaurant, south of Biji town in Salahuddin province, the Iraqi Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

"The corpse count of the blast that hit al-Qalaa restaurant in al-Hajjaj region, north of Tikrity, reached up to seven people, while 42 others were maimed," the ministry’s spokesperson Saif al-Badr told AlSumaria News.

A brief statement by the Security Media Center said earlier that " a terrorist attack, carried out by a booby-trapped vehicle, that was parked outside one of the restaurants on the main road of Biji-Tikrit took place."

In related news, the source said "a bomb kaboom targeted a vehicle in Qunitera village, in the western side of Shirqat town, leaving a civilian killed and two others injured."
Rudaw adds:
A vehicle packed with explosives blew up on a bus in front of a restaurant in the town of Hajaj near Tikrit killing 6 and wounding 11 others, Jamal I'kab, head of Saladin province's media office said.
"The restaurant lies on the Baghdad-djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
road and travelers usually stop there to rest." L'kab said.

He blamed ISIS for the attack.

Ex-NSA Director Disputes Report That Trump Asked Him To Push Back On Collusion Probe
[DailyCaller] Former National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers on Tuesday disputed a report published in May 2017 alleging that President Donald Trump asked him to push back against the FBI's collusion investigation.

"I've never had a discussion with collusion with the president of the United States," Rogers said at an event held at George Mason University, according to CBS News.

"I've never been directed to do anything, coerced ‐ any time I had a discussion I felt I was able to say, ‘Hey, here's my view on that.'"

The Washington Post reported May 22, 2017, that Trump separately asked Rogers and Dan Coates, the director of the office of national intelligence, to push back against the FBI's investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian government.

The alleged request came after then-FBI Director James Comey testified that the bureau was investigating whether members of the Trump team conspired with the Kremlin to influence the 2016 presidential election.

Citing multiple anonymous sources, WaPo reported that Rogers refused to comply with Trump's request. The newspaper also reported that a senior NSA official wrote a memo detailing the interaction between Trump and Rogers. (RELATED: Senate Intel Chairman Says He Has Not Seen Evidence Of Collusion)

"I was never asked that," Rogers said Tuesday in regard to whether Trump made the request.

When asked why he did not publicly rebut the story after it was published, Rogers said that if he spent time shooting down inaccurate media reports, "I'd never get anything done."

Foreign Fighters in Syria's Idlib Face Last Stand
Can’t know the players without a program, so here it is. Published just before the fight began.
[AnNahar] Hailing from far and wide, they flocked to Syria to wage "holy war". Now foreign jihadists face a fight to the last to hold onto Idlib, their final bastion.

Syrian troops, backed by Russia and Iran, have massed around the northwestern province ahead of an expected onslaught against the largest rebel-held zone left in the country.

Since 2015, Idlib has been home to a complex array of anti-regime forces: secular rebels, Islamists, Syrian jihadists with ties to al-Qaeda -- and their foreign counterparts.

Iran has 3,000-4,000 working centrifuges
[Ynet] Iran has between 3,000 and 4,000 active centrifuges, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said Wednesday, according to the Tasnim news agency‐still within the limit allowed under its troubled nuclear deal with world powers.

The rare announcement of specific data on the nuclear programme came days after Iran's nuclear chief said it had completed a facility to build advanced centrifuges‐Tehran has said it will increase its capacity to enrich uranium if the nuclear pact collapses following Washington's withdrawal in May.

[News24] The British owners of the Nieuwe Sion farm, David and Elaine Potter, recently astounded their 150 farmworkers when they handed over keys ‐ and title deeds ‐ to a R30m architect-designed village, complete with a crèche, aftercare and entertainment centre in the Western Cape.

The 22 state-of-the-art homes sit on four hectares of farmland and include modern finishes and features.

"For us as farmworkers, it's not possible to own a house so we are very thankful to the owner of the farm for this initiative," Hennie Lekay told News24.

Study Claims Gifted Math Classes Promote 'Academic Apartheid'
[PJ] A math education professor is arguing that gifted math classes cause "academic apartheid" among students, claiming that the practice is rooted in "capitalist exploitations and settler colonialism."

The study, "Understanding Issues Associated With Tracking Students in Mathematics Education," was published in the new issue of the the Columbia University journal Mathematics Education by Cacey Wells, a professor at the University of Oklahoma.

In his article ‐ which relies heavily upon social justice math theory ‐ Wells takes aim at what teachers call "academic tracking," which is the practice of placing students in different math classes (such as pre-algebra or gifted classes) depending on test scores.

Under the tracking system, for example, a student who scores in the top 10 percent of his peers may be placed into a precalculus course. On the other hand, a student who scores in the lowest 10 percent may be placed into a remedial math class, or perhaps pre-algebra.

While this practice is fairly common in high school, it has come under criticism by teachers who worry about the impact of the practice on the lower performing students. The confidence of some students may suffer at the expense of others, especially minorities, it is argued.

Arabia
Saudi airstrike kills 15 civilians in western Yemen
[AlMasdar] The Saudi Coalition carried out a new round of Arclight airstrikes over the Hodeidah Governorate this week, a local human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
group reported on Wednesday.
Have you noticed that Saudi airstrikes only kill civilians?
According to their report, at least 15 non-combatants were killed in the Kilo area of the Hodeidah Governorate after the Saudi Coalition heavily bombarded this part of the province.
You'd think that for the sake of verisimilitude they'd include an occasional Houthi combatant now and then, perhaps bravely defending the late lamented civilians...
This latest bombing the Saudi Coalition comes as the Gulf-backed forces resume their large-scale offensive inside the Hodeidah Governorate.
But Medes and/or Persians lack the imagination for that sort of thing.
Since restarting this offensive, the Gulf-backed forces have failed to capture any significant areas, despite the heavy festivities with the Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...

Egypt Security Forces Kill 11 Suspected Jihadists in Sinai
[AnNahar] Egyptian security forces have killed 11 suspected jihadists in the Sinai Peninsula as they press a campaign against Islamist Death Eaters in the area, a security source said Monday.

The military launched a sweeping operation in February focused on the Sinai in eastern Egypt aimed at wiping out jihadists, including from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group, who have been waging a bloody insurgency.

"Eleven terrorist elements were killed in an exchange of fire" with security forces in El-Arish, the capital of North Sinai province, the security source said.

The jihadists were in an abandoned petrol station "preparing terrorist acts" against security forces, the source added.

Jihadists launched an insurgency in Egypt after the 2013 ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi, forced out by the military in the face of mass protests against his rule.

Hundreds of police and soldiers have since been killed in jihadist attacks.

The military says around 300 suspected jihadists and at least 35 soldiers have been killed since the February launch of the "Sinai 2018" operation.

The press is not allowed to travel freely in the area although the military organised a rare visit to El-Arish for foreign media in July.

Rights groups have repeatedly warned of the dangers the Sinai campaign poses for the area's civilian population.

Human Rights Watch said in an April report the military push had left "up to 420,000 people in four cities in the northeast" of the peninsula in "urgent" need of humanitarian assistance.

The army insists the local population supports the campaign and receives adequate humanitarian assistance.

Drugs Ruled Out in Paris Knife Rampage
[AnNahar] A man being held after a knife attack that injured seven people along a canal in Gay Paree was not under the influence of drugs at the time, a legal source told AFP on Tuesday.

The suspect, believed to be an Afghan citizen in his 30s, was described by witnesses as acting drugged when he began striking people with a knife and iron bar on the Canal de l'Ourcq late Sunday.

Two British tourists and an Egyptian visitor were among those injured, and three people were still in hospital as of Monday evening, including one at death's door, a source close to the inquiry said.

The attacker was finally overpowered by bystanders, some of whom tried to stop him by throwing petanque balls.

"He seemed to be on something. He definitely didn't seem normal. He had a blank look... He didn't say anything. Even when we hit him, he didn't shout," one witness, Hamani Bouadjema, told AFP.

But blood tests of the suspect, who was still in hospital as of Tuesday, did not reveal any traces of drug use, the legal source said.

Although tourists were among the targets, "nothing at this stage suggests a terrorist attack," another source said.

Afghanistan
Afghan Air Force receives new MD-530F Cayuse Warrior helicopters
New toys for the boys. :-)
[KhaamaPress] The Afghan Air Force has received five new MD-530F Cayuse Warrior helicopters as efforts are underway to boost the fighting capabilities of the Afghan armed forces.

MD Helicopters, Inc. (MDHI) announced today the delivery of the first five (5) MD 530F Cayuse Warrior helicopters to the Afghan Air Force in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Delivered in less than 10 months from the September 2017 contract award, the first five aircraft reached Kandahar on August 8, 2018, and were readied for active service in less than 10 days, a statement by MD Helicopters stated.

The statement further added that the aircraft are the first of a new generation of MD 530F Cayuse Warriors with improved systems and equipment.

This comes as efforts are underway by the Afghan government and the international allies of Afghanistan to boost the capabilities of the Afghan national defense and security forces, specifically the Afghan Air Force.

The coalition forces officials in Afghanistan had earlier said that the size of the Afghan Air Force will be tripled over the next five years with the addition of new equipment and aircraft.

On the other Pentagon announced last week that a new contract worth $1.8 billion has been awarded to Sierra Nevada Corporation in support of the Afghan Air Force.

"Sierra Nevada Corp., Centennial, Colorado, has been awarded a ceiling $1,808,000,000 indefinite-delivery/indefinite quantity contract for potential procurement, sustainment, modifications, ferry, and related equipment for the A-29," Pentagon said in a statement.

The statement further added "Work will be performed at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia; and Kabul, Kandahar, and Mazari Sharif Air Bases, Afghanistan. Work is expected to be completed by Dec. 31, 2024. This contract involves foreign military sales to Afghanistan."

and other bully boyz often use IED as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces and government but in majority of such attacks ordinary civilians are targeted, besides such attacks often claims the lives of the bully boyz as well.

The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in its latest report stated that 1,692 non-combatants were killed in the first six months of 2018.

According to UNAMA, the use of improvised bombs (IEDs) in attacks by Anti-Government Elements remained the leading cause of civilian casualties.

"The combined use of suicide and non-suicide IEDs caused nearly half of all civilian casualties. Continuing trends first documented last year by UNAMA, the majority of IED casualties were caused by suicide and complex attacks, which again were responsible for record high civilian casualties, resulting in 1,413 civilian casualties (427 deaths and 986 injured), a 22 per cent increase," UNAMA said.

Shuttered National Solar Observatory update - Includes Black Helicopters
[The Mail] A solar observatory in New Mexico was mysteriously evacuated last week and remains shut down until further notice, even as a geomagnetic storm bears down on Earth’s atmosphere.

According to local media, the National Solar Observatory in Sunspot, NM has been closed since last Thursday, along with the nearby post office, and employees affected have no idea why.

The FBI has since showed up to the site and Blackhawk helicopters have been seen circling overhead, but officials remain tight-lipped as to what’s going on, saying only that they are ’addressing a security issue.’

The mysterious activity has sparked conspiracy theories across the internet given its alignment with with this week's solar storm.

The facility is managed by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA), and has been vacant since September 6.

It’s been nearly a week since the initial evacuation, but no details have been released.

Last week, a spokesperson for AURA told the Alamogordo Daily News that they evacuated as a ’precautionary measure.’

Otero County Sheriff Benny House revealed that even local law enforcement has been kept in the dark, despite being told to stand by.

’The FBI is refusing to tell us what’s going on,’ House told Alamogordo Daily News.

Gunmen open fire on Iranian Kurdish party office in Sulaimani city
[Rudaw] Unknown shooters targeted an office belonging to the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan in Sulaimani city on Tuesday.

"A number of unknown button men attacked Bakraju neighborhood in Sulaimani where our relations and diplomacy offices are based and civilians reside at 1 a.m. am on Tuesday, using a vehicle," said Dara Qorayshi, the head of Komala’s security committee.

Iranian operatives under Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani
are known to be active in the Kurdistan Region and across the Middle East.

"Islamic Theocratic Republic and its affiliates could be behind this in order to wage a psychological war against Kurdish parties," added Qorayshi.

There were no causalities reported by the armed Kurdish party on Tuesday. Their joint coordination center with KDP-I and PDKI in Koya was struck by seven Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) surface-to-surface missiles on Saturday.

Iran also has set up an artillery base at Maidan Valley off-and-on targeting Kurdish farm land near the border, under the pretext of the presence of armed Kurdish opposition parties holed up in the Kurdistan Region.

"Iran has been bombarding Barbazin village heights on an almost daily basis in the past 10 days, resulting in the burning of lands and displacement of nearly 200 families, and the region has been economically harmed," Ihsan Chalabi mayor of Sidakan confirmed on Tuesday.

Seventeen people have died in the attacks in Koya on Saturday, including several politicians, and 46 were maimed, according to figures from the health department. Since 1992, due to Iranian and Ottoman Turkish border bombardments, an estimated 650 villages have been emptied in Erbil and Duhok.

All major parties in the Kurdistan Region condemned the strikes, calling them a violation of territorial illusory sovereignty.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Maj. Gen. Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said on Tuesday that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) or Government of Iraq "should expel" the Iranian Kurdish parties "if they cannot extradite them," Fars news agency reported.

"We hope that God willing we won't need to do it again," he said.

US Vice President Mike Pence called the strikes an attempt to destabilize the region during a telephone call with KRG Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani on Monday.

"Vice President Pence condemned Iran’s recent rocket attacks into the Kurdistan Region as an effort to threaten and destabilize its closest neighbor," read a White House statement.

Five Iranian Kurdish parties including Komala issued a joint statement on Sunday condemning Tehran’s missile strike and called for a general strike in Rojhelat (Eastern Kurdistan).

Blombos Cave yields 73,000 year old hunter-gatherer 'hashtag'
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A small stone flake marked with intersecting lines of red ochre pigment some 73,000 years ago that was found in a cave on South Africa’s southern coast represents what archaeologists on Wednesday called the oldest-known example of human drawing.

The abstract design, vaguely resembling a hashtag, was drawn by hunter-gatherers who periodically dwelled in Blombos Cave overlooking the Indian Ocean, roughly 190 miles (300 km) east of Cape Town, the researchers said. It predates the previous oldest-known drawings by at least 30,000 years.

While the design appears rudimentary, the fact that it was sketched so long ago is significant, suggesting the existence of modern cognitive abilities in our species, Homo sapiens, during a time known as the Middle Stone Age, the researchers said.

Swedish court nixes deportation of Palestinian who tried to torch synagogue
[IsraelTimes] A Swedish court of appeals overturns a deportation order against a Paleostinian man who Molotov cocktailed a synagogue, saying he’d be in danger from Israel because of his crime if sent to the Paleostinian Authority.

The Wednesday ruling by the Court of Appeals for Western Sweden is on a motion filed by one of three men who in June were convicted of the attempted arson of a synagogue in Gothenburg in December, hours after locals marched in the southern city against the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

The appellant, who was not named in the Swedish media, was sentenced in June to two years in prison and ordered to be deported after serving that term. But whereas the appeals court kept in place the conviction, it overturned the deportation order citing Israel, the SVT broadcaster reports.

Since the man committed a crime that "could be perceived as a threat to other Jews," and Israel "might be interested in the matter," the appeals court ruled that one "cannot safeguard the man’s fundamental human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
if he is deported to Paleostine," the broadcaster quotes the judge as writing in his opinion.

The three Arabs who were convicted of trying to torch the synagogue were part of a group of more than a dozen men who hurled Molotov cocktails at the building. Teens from the local Jewish community were attending a party inside the synagogue complex at the time.

Antisemitism definition sparks backlash on U.S. Left
IN WHICH President Trump continues to help the Democratic party specifically, and Progressives in general, to define themselves as being vehemently against all that is right and good. And at each step more voters are peeled away from the Democrats, even if they don’t actually go all the way over to the Republicans.
[Jpost] The matter in question is whether opposing Jewish self-determination in the ancestral Jewish homeland of Israel, a political movement known as Zionism, should be considered antisemitic.

A debate over the definition of antisemitism that has paralyzed Britannia’s Labour Party made its way across the Atlantic this week, amid news that the Trump administration would apply a similar standard on discrimination toward Jews under scrutiny there at the US Department of Education.

The matter in question is whether opposing Jewish self-determination in the ancestral Jewish homeland of Israel, a political movement known as Zionism, should be considered antisemitic. Several Western government agencies, including the foreign and justice ministries of the US, Britannia and Germany, have policies that deem anti-Zionism a discriminatory practice that uniquely denies Jews the right to govern themselves.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Author of 'How to Murder Your Husband' arrested for murdering her husband
[NYDAILYNEWS] In a twist of irony so devious it would have turned Agatha Christie green with envy, Oregon chef Daniel Brophy was found shot to death nearly seven years after his wife of 27 years penned an essay titled "How to Murder Your Husband."

Nancy Crampton-Brophy, the writer of sensuous mysteries such as "Hell on the Heart" and "The Wrong Husband," was tossed in the clink
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
for murder on Sept. 5 ‐ more than three months after the death of her spouse.

"Dan was one of the very few people I’ve known that knew exactly what he wanted in life and loved doing it," she said at a candlelight vigil two days after Daniel’s demise.
Fox4now adds:
Police responded to a shooting at the Oregon Culinary Institute, Brophy's place of employment, June 2. Students were just beginning to arrive when they found the 63-year-old chef bleeding in the kitchen, according to KATU2 news. Brophy died at the scene.

His wife, Crampton-Brophy, is a self-published author of several books, including "The Wrong Husband" and "The Girl Most Likely To." She also penned a blog post entitled "How To Murder Your Husband" in November 2011. The blog has since been made private.

In "How to Murder Your Husband," Crampton-Brophy described motives and possible murder weapons she would choose from if her character were to kill a husband in a romance novel, according to The Washington Post. She even offered advice to readers, such as not using a hitman or poison to commit the murder.

Her other works also dealt with murder. In "The Wrong Husband," a woman tries to leave an abusive spouse by faking her death and in "The Wrong Cop" she wrote about a woman who “spent every day of her marriage fantasizing about killing” her husband.

The Grand Turk
Turkey Captures 2013 Border Bombing Suspect in Syria Operation
[AnNahar] The Ottoman Turkish secret service has captured in Syria and brought back to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
the chief suspect in a 2013 bombing on the border with its conflict-torn neighbour that left over 50 dead, state media said Wednesday.

Ottoman Turkish citizen Yusuf Nazik, who is accused of planning the May 2013 Reyhanli bombing, was apprehended in an operation by the National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) in the Syrian city of Latakia and brought to Turkey, the Anadolu news agency said.

Turkey at the time blamed the bombing -- one of the deadliest in its modern history -- on the regime of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
One of the last of the old-fashioned hereditary iron-fisted fascist dictators...
and allied groups. But the Syrian government rejected the charges.

Anadolu also published a video of Nazik, dressed in a tracksuit top and jeans and standing by a Ottoman Turkish flag, giving what it described as a "confession", saying he was behind the attack and it had been ordered by the Syrian regime.

He said a man "working for Syrian intelligence" had given the order for the bombing and called on others in Syria to "return before it is too late", saying Turkey will "look after us".

Nazik said he was from the Ottoman Turkish southern city of Antakya and was 34 years old.

Turkey has been an implacable foe of Assad throughout the Syrian conflict and has repeatedly called for his ouster.

Yet Ankara has also been working in recent months more intensely with its main allies Russia and Iran on ending the conflict. Attention is now focused on Turkey's reaction should the regime go ahead with a planned assault on the last rebel stronghold of Idlib.

The operation to capture Nazik which took place in Latakia is significant as the city has been a regime stronghold throughout the civil war and is seen as the heartland of support for Assad.

There were no further details on the nature of the operation and if it had been carried out with or without the knowledge of the Syrian authorities or Russian forces who are present in the area. No date was given for Nazik's capture.

The operation is the latest in a series of high-profile swoops by the MIT.

It has brought back to Turkey in recent weeks suspects accused of links to preacher Fethullah Gülen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
, the accused criminal mastermind of the 2016 failed coup seeking to topple President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
, from several countries including Kosovo, Gabon, Moldova and Ukraine.

International-UN-NGOs
US threatens to arrest ICC judges who probe war crimes
[AlAhram] The United States threatened Monday to arrest and sanction judges and other officials of the International Criminal Court if it moves to charge any American who served in Afghanistan with war crimes.

White House National Security Advisor John Bolton called the Hague-based rights body "unaccountable" and "outright dangerous" to the United States, Israel and other allies, and said any probe of US service members would be "an utterly unfounded, unjustifiable investigation."

"If the court comes after us, Israel or other US allies, we will not sit quietly," Bolton said.

He said the US was prepared to slap financial sanctions and criminal charges on officials of the court if they proceed against any Americans.

"We will ban its judges and prosecutors from entering the United States. We will sanction their funds in the US financial system, and we will prosecute them in the US criminal system," Bolton said.

"We will do the same for any company or state that assists an ICC investigation of Americans."

Bolton made the comments in a speech in Washington to the Federalist Society, a powerful association of legal conservatives.

Bolton pointed to an ICC prosecutor's request in November 2017 to open an investigation into alleged war crimes committed by the US military and intelligence officials in Afghanistan, especially over the abuse of detainees.

Neither Afghanistan nor any other government party to the ICC's Rome Statute has requested an investigation, Bolton said.

He said the ICC could formally open the investigation "any day now."

He also cited a recent move by Paleostinian leaders to have Israeli officials prosecuted at the ICC for human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
violations.

"The United States will use any means necessary to protect our citizens and those of our allies from unjust prosecution by this illegitimate court," Bolton said.

"We will not cooperate with the ICC. We will provide no assistance to the ICC. We certainly will not join the ICC. We will let the ICC die on its own."

The ICC defended itself, noting it has the support of 123 member states and that even the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
Security Council has found it valuable, asking it in 2005 to investigate genocide in Darfur, Sudan.

"The ICC, as a judicial institution, acts strictly within the legal framework of the Rome Statute and is committed to the independent and impartial exercise of its mandate," it said in a statement.

Bolton said the main objection of President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's administration is to the idea that the ICC could have higher authority than the US Constitution and US illusory sovereignty.

"In secular terms, we don't recognize any higher authority than the US Constitution," he said.

"This president will not allow American citizens to be prosecuted by foreign babus bureaucrats, and he will not allow other nations to dictate our means of self-defense."

He also condemned the court's record since it formally started up in 2002, and argued that most major nations had not joined.

He said it had attained just eight convictions despite spending more than $1.5 billion, and said that had not stemmed atrocities around the world.

"In fact, despite ongoing ICC investigations, atrocities continue to occur in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
, Sudan, Libya, Syria, and many other nations." he added.

Bolton was strongly criticized by rights groups. Liz Evenson, associate international justice director at Human Rights Watch, said Bolton's threats "show callous disregard for victims of atrocity crimes."

"The slaughter of civilians in Syria, Myanmar and elsewhere shows the ICC is needed more than ever to act where it can," Evenson added.

She said a move to block the complaints against US soldiers in Afghanistan and against Israel would show the US "more concerned with coddling serial rights abusers... than supporting impartial justice."

ICC Says 'Undeterred' after U.S. Sanctions Threat

[AnNahar] The International Criminal Court on Tuesday said it would continue its work "undeterred" after Washington threatened to prosecute its officials if they charge Americans with war crimes committed in Afghanistan.

"The ICC, as a court of law, will continue to do its work undeterred, in accordance with those principles and the overarching idea of the rule of law," the court said in a statement.

In the field of Pharmacology there is the adage that: "All medicines are Poisons." The ICC is either irrelevant normally or toxic in its side effects...
I also remember reading about some of the Polynesian miniature (quote) countries (un-quote) included in that grandiose 123 member states that were bribed into joining the ICC by generous offers of aid from the European Union. It all makes sense if the ICC is considered a method of waging lawfare on the US by the EU...

No Bias here: Google Top Dawgs discuss their sorrow at 2016 election
Nothing like creating a hostile work environment for the political dissenters, who have since openly complained about harassment and intimidation from management and colleagues alike...
[Breitbart] A video recorded by Google shortly after the 2016 presidential election reveals an atmosphere of panic and dismay amongst the tech giant’s leadership, coupled with a determination to thwart both the Trump agenda and the broader populist movement emerging around the globe.

The video is a full recording of Google’s first all-hands meeting following the 2016 election (these weekly meetings are known inside the company as “TGIF” or “Thank God It’s Friday” meetings). Sent to Breitbart News by an anonymous source, it features co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, VPs Kent Walker and Eileen Naughton, CFO Ruth Porat, and CEO Sundar Pichai. It can be watched in full above. It can and should be watched in full above in order to get the full context of the meeting and the statements made.

It was reported earlier this week that Google tried to boost turnout among the Latino population to help Hillary Clinton, only to be dismayed as the usually solid Democratic voting bloc switched to the GOP in record numbers. This video shows a similar level of dismay among Google’s most high-profile figures.

These individuals, who preside over a company with unrivaled influence over the flow of information, can be seen disparaging the motivations of Trump voters and plotting ways to use their vast resources to thwart the Trump agenda.

Co-founder Sergey Brin can be heard comparing Trump supporters to fascists and extremists. Brin argues that like other extremists, Trump voters were motivated by “boredom,” which he says in the past led to fascism and communism.

The Google co-founder then asks his company to consider what it can do to ensure a “better quality of governance and decision-making.”

VP for Global Affairs Kent Walker argues that supporters of populist causes like the Trump campaign are motivated by “fear, xenophobia, hatred, and a desire for answers that may or may not be there.”

Later, Walker says that Google should fight to ensure the populist movement – not just in the U.S. but around the world – is merely a “blip” and a “hiccup” in a historical arc that “bends toward progress.”

CEO Sundar Pichai states that the company will develop machine learning and A.I. to combat what an employee described as “misinformation” shared by “low-information voters.”

#4  a New York University psychologist, Jonathan Haidt, was formulating a theory about why liberals and conservatives have such a hard time productively conversing.

After mucking around in a lot of survey data, he came up with this basic idea: Liberals and people of the left underpin their politics with moral concerns about harm and fairness; they are driven by the imperative to help the vulnerable and see justice done. Conservatives and people of the right value these things as well but have several additional moral touchstones — loyalty, respect and sanctity. They value in-group solidarity, deference to authority, and the protection of purity in mind and body. To liberals, those sincerely held values can look a lot like, in Dr. Haidt's words, "xenophobia, authoritarianism and Puritanism." This asymmetry is the fountainhead of mutual incomprehension and disdain.

Haidt has done good work on the psychology of political persuasion. He's a self-described liberal who discovered some of the personality traits that correlate with political belief. One of the most telling discoveries was that conservatives tend to be curious about what liberals think and why, while liberals see conservatives as inferior "other," inherently incapable of thought.

When faced with questions such as "One of the worst things a person could do is hurt a defenseless animal" or "Justice is the most important requirement for a society," liberals assumed that conservatives would disagree.

http://theindependentwhig.com/haidt-passages/haidt/conservatives-understand-liberals-better-than-liberals-understand-conservatives/

Jonathan Haidt's experiments ask liberals and conservatives to fill out questionnaires about their values, then to predict how someone from the opposite tribe would fill out the questionnaire. He finds that conservatives are able to predict liberals' answers just fine and seem to have a pretty good understanding of their worldviews, but that liberals have *no idea* how conservatives think or what they value.

#11  Maybe I won't read the book. Here is the last part of a lengthy critical review -

I don't actually disagree with any of Haidt's psychological studies. I just come to entirely different conclusion. When Haidt finds ignorance and prejudice, he wants to build a code of ethics out of it. Where I find ignorance and prejudice, I want to educate people and help them to understand the points of views of others. How can this come about? Well, first one must accept that there is a real, physical reality out there, and that certain actions make sense in the real world and others don't. If you compare today's political discussion with that of previous generations, you can see how far we've fallen. For example, read "The Federalist Papers" and compare that to any modern day politician's anti-intellectualism, and you can realize how much America has lost since our founding in terms of critical thinking and honest debate.

The Enlightenment-style system of individual rights has advanced society enormously. Unfortunately, there are still pseudo-intellectuals like Haidt who want to drag us back into the stone age, or worse, towards fascism, religious fundamentalism, or communism. I find this book disturbing and could go on and on about problems I have with it, however I think I've said enough to get my point across.

#13  The left has built up thick walls around their echo-chambers for the last decade or so. If on the military could build tanks and warships out of such strong material as liberal bullheadishness.

Psycho NYU feminist prof might have her works removed for sexual harassment
I don't get why this psychopath's work would be removed, but not her, but then I'm no egghead.
Paper is more easily dealt with than tenure.
[Breitbart] New York University Professor Avital Ronell, who been accused of inappropriate sexual behavior with young men on more than one occasion, is now facing a backlash against her scholarly work.

Ronell is the recent subject of a Title IX investigation at NYU after a former student accused her of inappropriate behavior. The student, Nimrod Reitman, gave investigators dozens of emails that revealed Ronell’s injection of romance into their scholarly relationship. She referred to Reitman, a gay man, by pet names like “baby love,” “my sacred,” and “most honey bunny.” Reitman also claimed that he had been subjected to unwanted kissing and touching.

This wasn’t the first accusation of inappropriate sexual misconduct against Ronell. In a passage from the authoritative biography on famous postmodern philosopher Jacques Derrida, Ronell, who claims to be gay, is said to have engaged in a romantic relationship with the philosopher’s underage son. At the time, Ronell was 27 and the young Derrida was only 16.

Now, instructors around the country are considering whether or not they should drop Ronell’s work from their syllabi. And her loudest critics don’t want to stop there. Mount Allison University sociologist Ardath Whynacht has started a campaign to remove the works of Ronell’s supporters from syllabi. This would include the works of famed feminists like Judith Butler, who is often featured in liberal arts classes around the country. Butler led a campaign in defense of Ronell. Her main defense of Ronell focused on features of her identity, such as the fact that she’s a woman and a feminist.
Leaving out the sexual predator part.
A longer exposition on Ronell can be found here

Following the pattern of their beloved Soviet Union, all who blaspheme will be blotted out.

#1  Feminists are outraged that Title IX, a weapon they designed for their own use, is being used against them. It is sacrilege.

#2  Being an authority on Derrida should excuse anything. People who have read Derrida know what I mean.
