Pro-Sanctuary Maryland Officials Throw A Tantrum After State Becomes A Den Of Illegal Alien Rape
[Townhall] Tim and Guy have been covering this story for a bit now. Montgomery County, Maryland is a deep blue bastion. They like not working with immigration enforcement authorities. They’re pretty much a sanctuary county.

So, it really shouldn’t be a shocker that hordes of illegal alien rapistsare flocking to the region. There have been seven illegal alien rapistsapprehended by police since late July. One of which raped a 16-year-old after he climbed into her room and held her at knife point. Another had been molesting two children over the course of six months.

They’re animals. This is why we need Immigration and Customs Enforcement deporting this trash the hell out of our country, and the cases keep stacking up. You can read more, here, here, and hereabout how the collar counties around Baltimore have become havens for illegal alien sexual predators. Yet, as with illegal aliens who murder our citizens, the Democrats don’t care. They don’t. they see the overall end game: millions of new Democratic voters thanks to these illegals being granted amnesty and put on a path to citizenship.

Dead and raped Americans are worth this deluge of new voters for the Left. It’s about power. Now, with illegal alien rapists running wild and going through the area like the hordes of Genghis Khan, these Maryland officials have responded (via Fox5DC):

#2  Just wanted to point out the the Emancipation Proclamation only 'freed' slaves in states in rebellion. Now name that party involved in both.

Gertz: China Trying to Stop Trump Reelection, Dominate Militarily
[Free Beacon] Attempts to make China a 'benign, free-market, open system' have 'utterly failed'

Washington Free Beacon senior editor Bill Gertz said Friday that China is working against America ahead of the 2020 election because it wants "a different president."

"They are already working in the farm states," Gertz said Friday on Fox News Channel's Tucker Carlson Tonight. "They are working against the whiskey industry in the United States to undermine Trump. They want a different president."

Discussing his new book, Deceiving the Sky: Inside Communist China's Drive for Global Supremacy, Gertz explained that China poses a grave threat not just to American elections, but also to U.S. leadership around the globe. He argued Democratic presidential candidates were wrong to say climate change is the greatest "existential threat" to the United States when China is fast accumulating more military and economic power.

Blast wounds seven people at public market in southern Philippines
MANILA (Reuters) - An explosion at a public market in the southern Philippines wounded at least seven people early on Saturday, the fourth blast in that area in 13 months, the military said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast, but a militant group operating in the mostly Christian city of Isulan in the province of Sultan Kudarat was among the suspects, military said.

The latest blast comes at a time of heightened tensions in the volatile southern Philippines after three incidents in the past year authorities said were suicide bombings by militants linked to the Islamic State.

Video footage showed Saturday’s blast occurred in a parking space for motorcycles. A suspected improvised explosive device was placed beside a parked motorcycle, Major Arvin Encinas, a regional military spokesman, told reporters.

In April, a bombing by suspected members of a pro-Islamic State militant group injured at least 18 people in a restaurant in Sultan Kudarat in Mindanao region.

Mindanao is troubled by banditry and armed rebellions that keep large parts of the region mired in poverty and instability.

Islamist militants operate in the south of the predominantly Roman Catholic nation country and some are known to have links with groups abroad, including al Qaeda and Islamic State.

Los Angeles County resident dies of lung illness, fifth U.S. death possibly tied to vaping
(Reuters) - A Los Angeles County resident has died from a lung illness possibly tied to vaping, bringing the total number of such U.S. deaths to five, health officials said on Friday.

Officials are warning against e-cigarette use as the exact cause of any link between vaping and the lung condition remains unknown.

The unidentified person was described as an older adult who had chronic underlying health conditions and was one of 12 cases of people in Los Angeles County experiencing severe and sudden lung disease after a history of vaping, said Muntu Davis, the heath officer of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

"Our recommendation ... is that if you don’t have to vape, don’t do it right now. There really is a lot of unknowns. There is a lot of information that needs to be gathered," he said during a news conference.

Deaths have also been confirmed in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Oregon, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on Friday. In addition, the agency is probing 450 cases of lung illness that may have been caused by e-cigarette use around the country.

#3  ...And there's the distinct possibility that the one thing almost all of these cases have in common is that they involve vaping CBDs or other forms of marijuana.

Of course, that's not going to get attention because Weed Is Good(TM) and after decades of trying to get it legalized, nobody's going to let it slip back now.

#4  It's the vaporization of the oils in the CBD, pot, hash and other new vaping products being manufactured under the table. This oil vapor gets into the tiny nooks and crannies of the lungs and isn't easily expelled by the body, hence the infections.

I've vaped for years and the standard flavored nicotine products don't have oils in their ingredients.

Follow the money. The tobacco companies (and their proxies) have tried multiple ways to quash the vape industry, but have been unsuccessful up to now.

Iranian tanker previously detained in Gibraltar allegedly offloads oil in Syria
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Iranian oil tanker, ADRIAN DARYA (previously Grace 1), that was previously detained in Gibraltar has allegedly offloaded its cargo in Syria, the Middle East Eye reported.

According to the Middle East Eye, the ADRIAN DARYA offloaded at least 55 percent of its cargo, a similar claim made to al-Masdar from a Lebanese journalist that asked to remain anonymous.

The journalist added that the cargo on the ADRIAN DARYA oil tanker is worth approximately $130 million (U.S.).

At the same time, a Syrian source in Damascus told al-Masdar that the oil was delivered using several small ships. He said the ships later moved the oil to the Syrian port-city of Baniyas in the Tartous Governorate.

Earlier this week, the ADRIAN DARYA was tracked off the coast of Baniyas; however, its fate was unknown at that time, as there were reports that it was heading to both The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
and Leb.

Another Iranian ship named the SAVIOR was also tracked off the coast of Syria before it turned off its GPS. The vessel’s destination was supposed to be Port Said in Egypt.

Hong Kong protesters reject leader's concession with new rallies
[DAWN] Thousands of Hong Kongers held rallies on Friday night, rejecting calls by the city's pro-Beijing leader to end their movement as the finance hub braces for another weekend of clashes, including a plan to disrupt the airport.

Police fired brief volleys of tear gas and rubber bullets against a few hundred protesters who had gathered outside a police station in Mongkok district.

The demonstrators later blocked roads, set barricades on fire and faced off with riot police before dispersing without any major new clashes.

Portuguese ISIS commander that lived in UK has been captured in Syria
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested a senior member of the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) in the eastern region of Syria this week.

According to the Xeber 24 news site, the SDF arrested Niru Sariva during an operation inside the city of Baghouz in the Deir Ezzor Governorate.

Sariva, a Portuguese national, was reportedly a commander of one of the Islamic State’s foreign battalions in eastern Syria before his capture by the Syrian Democratic Forces.

Xeber 24 noted that Sariva was the commander of ISIS’ foreign militants’ battalion and was in charge of abducting and executing Westerners in Syria.

The 33-year-old Sariva who had been residing in London before joining the ISIS was also one of the most important elements of the ISIS in exercising the terrorist group’s forced recruitment plans.

The recent arrest of this terrorist commander comes at the same time the Syrian Democratic Forces continue their combing operations in the eastern region of the Euphrates River Valley.

Taliban attack third Afghan provincial capital in a week
[DAWN] An Afghan official says the Taliban have attacked a third provincial capital in less than a week, with an overnight assault on the western city of Farah.

Provincial Governor Mohammad Shoaib Sabet said there was no immediate word of casualties early on Friday and that airstrikes have been carried out against the militant group.

The growing violence comes as a US envoy said he and the militant group have reached a deal "in principle" on ending America's longest war.

CNN to Host LGBTQ Democratic Presidential Town Hall
[FREEBEACON] CNN and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation have partnered to host the next Democratic presidential town hall, focused on LGBTQ issues.

CNN host Don Lemon made the announcement after the seven-hour Democratic presidential climate town hall on Wednesday.

"CNN is partnering with the Human Rights Campaign Foundation for our next series of presidential town halls on issues that are important to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community," Lemon told viewers.

CNN's ratings remained behind competing news networks during Wednesday's highly promoted climate town hall, averaging 1.4 million viewers. MSNBC averaged 2.2 million and Fox News averaged 3.2 million viewers during the same hours.

The LGBTQ town hall is scheduled to take place at The Novo in Los Angeles on October 10. The candidates will appear consecutively, taking questions from the audience as well as CNN journalists.

Candidates must qualify for the October Democratic presidential debate to participate in the town hall. Candidates must reach at least 2 percent in four DNC-approved national polls and meet the threshold of 130,000 unique donors. The polls considered will be those released between June 28 and September 25.

Kazakh president rejects calls for parliamentary republic
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Friday rejected calls for a switch to a parliamentary republic as he met opposition activists and public figures to discuss political reforms.

“I am convinced that Kazakhstan must remain a presidential republic, but the parliament will assume a worthy role in the political system,” he said.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Friday rejected calls for a switch to a parliamentary republic made by opposition activists at recent public protests, but promised to give the Central Asian nation’s parliament a greater role.

Tokayev took over the oil-rich former Soviet republic this year, when his predecessor Nursultan Nazarbayev resigned after nearly three decades in power, and some groups have urged him to dismantle the highly centralized political system.

“I am convinced that Kazakhstan must remain a presidential republic, but the parliament will assume a worthy role in the political system,” Tokayev said at a meeting with opposition activists and public figures picked by his government to join a newly-established National Council of Public Confidence.

Tokayev said he wanted to boost political competition by amending electoral laws and give the parliament a bigger say in major decisions.

The Nur Otan party led by Nazarbayev holds more than 80 seats in the 107-seat lower house of parliament, which mostly rubberstamps legislation drafted by the government. The next parliamentary election is due next year.

Nazarbayev’s daughter Dariga Nazarbayeva is the speaker of parliament’s upper house.

New Zealand officials find half ton of meth hidden in motors
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] New Zealand authorities say they found more than a half ton of methamphetamine hidden inside a shipment of 60 electric motors from Thailand.

Customs Investigations Manager Bruce Berry told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named on Friday they believe a sophisticated Canadian narco mob is behind the shipment. He said they have been tracking two Canadians for several months who they believe were sent separately to New Zealand to receive and sell the drugs.

Two Canadian men in their mid-20s and one New Zealand man have been arrested and charged with importing and possessing methamphetamine. They each face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment if convicted. Berry said international criminal organizations are looking for new markets and New Zealand has proved attractive to them.

It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
-Israel border on Friday, Paleostinian health officials said.

They named the dead as Khaled al-Rabai, 14, and Ali al-Ashqar, 17. Seventy protesters were maimed, 38 of them by live fire, medical officials said.

An Israeli military front man said that troops guarding the border were faced with more than 6,000 demonstrators at several points along the fence, some hurling bombs and Molotov cocktails.

He said that some briefly managed to cross the fence before returning to Gaza, and that Israeli forces responded with riot dispersal measures. The front man did not comment on the deaths.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Intense clashes breakout for second straight night in northern Syria
[ALMASDARNEWS] For the second night in a row, an intense firefight broke out between the Turkish-backed militants and Kurdish-led forces in the Aleppo countryside.

According to reports from northern Syria, a fierce clash broke out between the Turkish-backed National Liberation Front and Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) west of the strategic town of ‘Azaz in northern Aleppo.

No casualties or advances have been reported by either side.

On Thursday evening, a similar firefight took place between the NLF and YPG; it would end with both sides ceasing hostilities during the wee hours of the morning.

Despite the recent implementation of the safe zone agreement in northern Syria, there has been little peace between the Turkish-backed rebels and YPG in the Aleppo Governorate.

The Turkish authorities consider the YPG and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to be terrorist entities that are offshoots of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

The Turkish military and PKK were involved in a long war that eventually ended towards the end of the 20th Century.

Scandal: Head of UN Communications Incites Illegal Entry Into U.S. says ‘It’s Never a Crime”
[Sara Carter] “It is never a crime to seek asylum in another country even if one enters a country irregularly,” said Melissa Flemming, the Head of United Nations Communications.

Fleming continued to say in her Facebook post that “the right to seek asylum is enshrined in Article 14 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights & was made binding by the 1951 Refugee Convention.”

Fleming is an American, who last August was appointed by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres as the Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications.

Since 2009, Fleming has been Head of Global Communications and Spokesperson in the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Geneva. The same organization that Rep. Ilhan Omar invited last week to take over the management of United States’ southern border.

“So we have to bring in the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees (UNHCR) – an agency that has the expertise and the training to handle massive flows of refugees humanely,” said Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) to a Minneapolis audience this week referring to the situation in our southern border.

A$AP Rocky's Swedish lawyer is 'shot in the head and chest' in Stockholm as police question female lawyer banned from contact
[Daily Mail] A prominent Swedish lawyer who represented A$AP Rocky in his Stockholm assault case has been shot in the head and chest in an 'ambush attack'.

Henrik Olsson Lilja was leaving his apartment building in downtown Stockholm shortly before nine this morning when a gunman approached and shot him.

Neighbors saw a person wrestle the lawyer in a stairwell, before the shooting and gave Olsson Lilja a phone to call the police, who have since arrested several suspects.

A woman, also a senior lawyer, who was previously banned from contacting Olsson Lilja is among those arrested, but the shooter has been identified as a man.

'One person has been arrested as a suspect for the attempted murder attempt' a spokesperson for the prosecutor's office said.

The gunman swiftly jumped into a waiting SUV and sped off and the lawyer's condition is unknown. He is still at large.

Olsson Lilja first represented Rocky when he was first taken into custody after assaulting a man who was harassing him and his team on the street, but he was replaced before the trial began.

It is not known if the shooting had any relation to the US rapper's case.

Six suspected extremists killed in Egypt, says ministry
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Six suspected holy warriors were killed on Thursday in a shootout with police near the Bahariya oasis southwest of the Egyptian capital, the interior ministry said.

Police carried out a dawn raid against "terrorist elements" in a desert area near Bahariya, roughly 300 kilometers (190 miles) southwest of Cairo, the ministry said in a statement.

A shootout led to the death of six suspects, the ministry said, adding that a number of hunting rifles and four assault rifles were found at the site.

Extremists have launched several attacks in the vast desert area west of the Nile.

In November 2018, an ISIS

attack killed six Copts and an Anglican after they left the Saint Samuel monastery west of the Nile in Minya province.

ISIS carried out another attack nearby in May 2017, killing 29 Coptic pilgrims, many of them children.

Tourists have also been killed in attacks, but the violence has mostly targeted police and soldiers.

In February 2018, the army launched a nationwide offensive against krazed killers, focused mainly on North Sinai, where the ISIS has a significant presence.

Lebanese President warns Israel would bear consequences of any attack
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Leb's President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
warned on Friday that Israel would bear the results of any attack on his country, days after a flare-up at the border between Israel and Hezbollah.
"Please don't kill us!"
"Any attack on Leb's illusory sovereignty ... will be met with legitimate self-defense which Israel will bear all the consequences of," Aoun's office cited him as saying in a meeting with the UN Special Coordinator for Leb.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week warned Leb and Leb’s Hezbollah to "be careful what you say and more careful what you do."

Leb’s Prime Minister Saad Hariri
...Second son of Rafik Hariri, the Leb PM who was assassinated in 2005. He has was prime minister in his own right from 2009 through early 2011. He was born in Riyadh to an Iraqi mother and graduated from Georgetown University. He managed his father's business interests in Riyadh until his father's assassination. When his father died he inherited a fortune of some $4.1 billion, which won't do him much good if Hizbullah has him bumped off, too....
responded in a CNBC interview saying that Israel wants to make Leb look responsible for the recent tensions.

"Israel wants to have this scenario that Leb is responsible, with what Netanyahu says, and if you want to buy it, buy it. But he knows and the international community knows that this is not true," said Hariri.

‘End charade, dismantle Iran nuclear deal completely,’ says Sen.Ted Cruz
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Ted Cruz, Republican Senator from Texas, said that "it’s time to end the charade and dismantle the Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
nuclear deal completely."

Senator Cruz issued the statement on Friday in response to reports that Iran will expand violation of the Obama-era nuclear deal by building prohibited centrifuges in which he noted: "Unfortunately, the international community seems loathe to respond. The deal was built to enable undetected Iranian cheating while incentivizing Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
to ignore whatever violations were found, and that’s exactly what happened."

"The Nuclear Archives seized by Israel show that the Ayatollahs have always been cheating by secretly maintaining a warehouse filled with nuclear equipment and radioactive material. Just this week we learned Iran is refusing to answer the United Nation’s questions about that warehouse," he added.

Senator Cruz said President Trump should order his administration "to stop issuing civil nuclear waivers, which allow Iran to build up its nuclear program, including at their Fordow nuclear bunker, which they dug out of the side of a mountain to build nuclear weapons."

Senator Cruz also urged Washington to go to the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
and "invoke our unilateral right to snap back from the deal and re-impose United Nations sanctions."

"Otherwise, we will very soon face a reality in which all international sanctions have been permanently lifted against Iran, which would be a disaster for the security of Americans and our allies."

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Six Illegal Aliens Accused of Stabbing 21-Year-Old Man to Death in Maryland
[BREITBART] Seven individuals have been charged with murdering a 21-year-old man to death in Maryland, six of whom are illegal aliens who have been living in the United States.
MS-13, Pelosi: "They're not animals", “there is a spark of divinity among every person on earth, and we all have to recognize that as we respect the dignity and worth of every person.”
This week, prosecutors charged seven individuals, six of whom are illegal aliens, with first-degree murder after 21-year-old Daniel Alejandro Alvarado Cuellar was found stabbed to death, his body left near an apartment complex in Baltimore County, Maryland in July.

The seven individuals charged with murder include:

20-year-old Jonathan Escobar-Hernandez
20-year-old Marlon Leonardo Fabian-Flores
18-year-old Edwin Edgardo Garcia-Martir
31-year-old Hugo Portillo-Chavez
19-year-old Jose Fausto Rivera-Coreas
20-year-old Odaliz Rosas-Yanez
16-year-old Leonel Alexander Velasquez-Hernadez

Conservative Review’s Daniel Horowitz confirmed with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency that Fabian-Flores, Garcia-Martir, Portillo-Chavez, Rivera-Coreas, Rosas-Yanez, and Velasquez-Hernadez are all illegal aliens who have been living in the U.S. Five of the illegal aliens are from El Salvador and one is from Mexico.

ICE officials confirmed that they have issued detainers on each of these six illegal aliens, requesting that should any of them be released from prison, they be turned over to federal immigration officials for arrest and deportation.

Esc0bar-Hernandez, the only individual not with an ICE detainer, "may or may not have gotten some sort of legal status," according to Horowitz.

Prosecutors said the six illegal aliens and Escobar-Hernandez are facing life in prison if convicted for the murder, and other individuals may have been involved.

Algerians protest over plan for swift elections
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Tens of thousands of protesters piled once again onto the streets of the Algerian capital and other cities Friday with many rejecting the army chief’s call for presidential elections before the end of the year.

This week’s pro-democracy protest, the 29th in a row, is seen as a test of the continued strength of the movement and a way to gauge the temperature of Gen. Ahmed Gaid Salah’s call this week to set a date by September 15 for presidential elections. That would mean voting would be held by law 90 days later - in mid-December.

Algeria has been without an elected president since protesters, helped by the army chief, forced Abdelaziz Bouteflika
...10th president-for-life of Algeria. He was elected in 1999 and served on his third or four terms. When he announced for the fifth, or maybe it was the sixth, visibly doddering, a grateful nation rose up in its wrath and threw him out...
to resign in early April.

Nationwide demonstrations started on February 22 to protest plans by Bouteflika, who was rarely seen in public since a 2013 stroke, to seek a fifth mandate. His administration was mired in corruption and top figures have since been imprisoned, along with leading industrialists.

Protesters now seek a democratic government and want a say in how to achieve that goal. Many opposition politicians are withholding judgment on Gaid Salah’s call for quick elections while others fear that he is seeking a return of a system they reject.

In the absence of an elected president, Gaid Salah has positioned himself as the country’s main authority figure, and sends out messages to Algerians via his numerous speeches to soldiers during visits to barracks.

Many Algerians want a transition period to work out how to proceed, while others want elections but with conditions.

Hundreds of police were posted, like each week, around downtown Algiers on Friday.

Chants included "We refuse to be led by Gaid Salah" and "We’re sick of generals."

Demonstrations were also held in a number of other cities, including the Kabyle capital of blood-soaked Tizi Ouzou, east of Algiers. And demonstrators demanded "a civilian and democratic nation" in the port city of Oran.

In Algiers, some carried signs bearing the portraits of people imprisoned for "political opinions," including Lakhdar Bouregaa, 86, a veteran of Algeria’s independence war against La Belle France, who had joined protesters.

"Today, the crowd is bigger than recent Fridays ... It’s a response to the discourse of Gaid Salah," Zine Cherfaoui, a commentator with the daily El Watan, said in an interview.

Kashmiri activist booked for sedition over statements against Indian army
[DAWN] Indian authorities booked a political leader and activist from occupied Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
, Shehla Rashid, under sedition charges over her tweets in which she had said that Indian armed forces tortured civilians and ransacked houses in the disputed territory after its special status was revoked, The Wire reported on Friday.

Rashid, a leader of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement, called the charges "frivolous, politically motivated and a pathetic attempt to silence" her.

The activist had been a prominent student leader in the Jawaharlal Nehru University and had served as the vice-president of the students’ union there.

She was also charged for spreading "fake news" with the intention to "malign the image of Indian Army", police told PTI on Friday.

Last month, Rashid took to Twitter and in a series of tweets alleged that Indian armed forces entered houses in Indian Kashmire at night and "ransacked" them. She also alleged that they "interrogated" four Kashmiri people in a camp in Shopian.

Britain
Second court rules in favor of Boris Johnson's suspension of Parliament
[THEHILL] A panel of three judges dismissed a case brought by Britain's former Prime Minister John Major and businesswoman Gina Miller arguing that current Prime Minister Boris Johnson's attempt to suspend Parliament through prorogation is an abuse of power, Bloomberg reported Friday.

The case will be appealed to the U.K.'s highest court, handing Johnson a second legal victory and setting up a final battle over Parliament and likely the fate of the U.K.'s exit from the European Union (EU) in the Supreme Court.

Miller slammed the ruling in a press conference Friday, according to Bloomberg, and vowed to continue the battle before the nation's highest court.

“Today we stand for everyone, we stand for future generations, and we stand for representative democracy,” she reportedly said. “To give up now would be a dereliction of our responsibilities.”

“As disappointed with the result as Mrs. Miller will be, we will go to the Supreme Court,” her attorney reportedly added.

Johnson has attempted to suspend British Parliament over its so-far successful efforts to block a "no-deal Brexit," or a departure from the EU without a formal trading agreement and provisions to ensure free passage in and out of the U.K., particularly on the border of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The U.K. is set to leave the EU on Oct. 31, which currently sits as the deadline for passing an agreement on border protections and trade.

#2  The Backstop problem: Feel free to offer a solution. I'm sure Boris would be happy.

The backstop is an emergency solution, which the EU and Great Britain have agreed on in the Brexit treaty, so that in the future it is guaranteed that this border will remain open. This is the only way for both sides to fulfill the requirements of the peace treaty of 10 April 1998, which stipulates that the border must not impede the coexistence of the Irish through any border controls.

As long as the UK - and thus Northern Ireland - was a member of the EU, the problem did not arise. However, this changes with the UK's withdrawal from the EU Customs Union and the internal market, because at the same time the line between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland suddenly turns into the EU's external border. This means that customs controls, product origin, quality controls and veterinary inspections of livestock must be carried out automatically.

The border problem will be solved once the UK and the EU have agreed on a permanent free trade agreement. But this may take years. Britain and the EU have agreed on a two-year transitional period after the Brexit agreement in March 2019. This transitional period can actually be extended one more time.

But if the negotiations take longer or both sides cannot agree, Brussels will make sure that the backstop comes into play. This emergency solution for the border means that Great Britain will continue to form a customs union with the EU, so that customs controls at the Irish border can be dispensed with. At the same time, Northern Ireland is to remain in the EU's single market for freight traffic, making border controls superfluous with regard to freight traffic and veterinary controls.

At the same time, the sea between Northern Ireland and the "mainland" Britain will become an imaginary border of the EU internal market and quality controls in the ports will become necessary. English livestock brought from England to Northern Ireland, for example, must then be inspected in the ports of Northern Ireland. This agreement is being met with resistance in the British Parliament.

The Northern Ireland DUP party does not accept that Northern Ireland should be treated differently from the rest of the UK in the case of Backstop. For the DUP, the United Kingdom must not be divided, not even by different quality rules. Hence the DUP's categorical no to the backstop in the withdrawal contract.

The British Parliament opposes the fact that the backstop forces the UK into a customs union with the EU. This makes it more difficult to negotiate free trade agreements with third countries. It is also completely unacceptable for many Brexiteers that the UK cannot get out of Backstop alone. The EU must agree to this.

The backstop shows the deep mistrust that exists between both sides. The British fear that the EU will be able to blackmail the UK: Either you accept our proposal of a future free trade agreement - or we won't let you out of the backstop, keep you in a customs union and Northern Ireland in the EU internal market.

The EU, for its part, fears that the British will simply rely on the EU to waive all border controls anyway in order not to endanger the Irish peace. But this would not be allowed under WTO rules. A country violates the principle of equal treatment when it freely imports goods from a neighboring country - Northern Ireland, for example - but controls trade from other countries. That is why the EU is adamant about the backstop.

The backstop is part of the legally binding withdrawal agreement, which the EU no longer wants to change. British demands that the backstop be dropped are therefore unrealistic.

So, what do you propose?

#9  This means that customs controls, product origin, quality controls and veterinary inspections of livestock must be carried out automatically.

What if the Irish Republic continues to agree - in principle - but refuses to observe these requirements in practice?

Will the EU then punish Ireland? Careful: the English could tell you a thing or two about how the Irish respond when their back's to the wall. (They aren't called "fighting Irish" for nothing.)

In all seriousness, why is this such a big issue? Friendly neighbors dispense with petty customs requirements all the time. In reality, nothing - absolutely nothing - has changed with regard to English products' ability to meet or surpass "product origin, quality controls and veterinary inspections of livestock."

Do you really believe that Orish consumers are risking ha if Ireland does not "automatically" start performing redundant and ridiculous inspections that is has not been performing since the Good Friday accords?

Really?

The fact that you harp on such a redundant, unnecessary bureaucratic standard in the face of a perfectly acceptable reality is a perfect example of why the EU is such a heavy-handed and oppressive joke.

#11  EC, the essence of this argument is that many of the world's political problems are perfectly solvable through non-legal, non-bureaucratic means.

Not every issue involving social, commercial etc relations between civilized peoples requires 500 pages of legal code and armies of judges and trade etc legal specialists for it to be resolved in a workable manner.

What you are failing to see, in your (in my view) extreme attachment to bureaucratic trade law mechanisms, is that Brexit is ultimately about CILTURE, not trade.

The Anglo-American tradition of common law - and the English way of government ever since 1689 - is above all NON-BUREAUCRATIC, pragmatic, and reasonable.

The Napoleonic system never took hold in our culture.

The accession of the U.K. into the EU is a mortal threat to the foundational values embedded in those core traditions of Parliamentary sovereignty and common law. The people rule: not bureaucrats, not trade lawyers, not "human rights lawyers," not Eurocrats. No: the people - the British people shall rule Britain.

This is not about trade. If Britain were to continue sliding into the morass of rule-by-Eurocrat & EU legalisms, then Britain would cease to be Britain. A 300 year-old tradition - arguably the greatest (or 2nd-greatest, after the American) political tradition on earth - would disappear.

Is that worth saving £8,000 on a BMW?

Don't you find it ironic that Europeans whose forbears bitterly criticized Albion as "a nation of shopkeepers" are now asking the British to act like ... grubby greedy shopkeepers?

#13  Yes the EU is largely about trade, and secondarily about preventing a reprise of European militarism and aggressive national expansion.

No the great democracy that is Britain is NOT about trade.

Brexit will temporarily hurt British trade.
Brexit will restore British parliamentary sovereignty, and restore the sense of meaningful difference to British citizenship.
Posted by: Lex || 09/07/2019 23:01 Comments || Top||

#14  Parliamentary sovereignty has never been in doubt.

Quite the contrary. Outside the EU the UK will still have to follow (most) EU rules if it wants to trade, but it will have no influence on the rules anymore.

Afghan president postpones US trip to discuss Taliban deal
[DAWN] Afghanistan's president has postponed a planned visit to Washington early next week where he was to discuss the US-Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...

The development emerged after the US envoy negotiating with the Taliban, Zalmay Khalilzad, abruptly returned to Qatar

's approval, Khalilzad said on Monday.

It was not immediately clear why President Ashraf Ghani

He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. 's visit was postponed. The person who spoke to The News Agency that Dare Not be Named was not authorised to talk to news hounds and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Since Khalilzad's announcement, two horrific Taliban boom-mobileings in the Afghan capital, Kabul, one of which killed a US service member and objections to the deal from the Afghan government and several former US ambassadors to Afghanistan have put pressure on Khalilzad as many wonder whether a deal will truly bring peace.

African Union lifts suspension of Sudan’ membership
[Sudan Tribune] The African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
has lifted Sudan’s suspension from the regional body after the formation of the civilian government, the regional body said in a statement on Friday.

On 6 June 2019, The African Union suspended Sudan despite a delay it had given to the military junta after a brutal raid on a pro-democracy sit-in in Khartoum that resulted in the death of over a hundred people.

At the time, the AU Peace and Security Council said the suspension would remain until the effective establishment of a Civilian-led Transitional Authority, and tasked the Æthiopian Prime Minister with a mediation to restore democracy in Sudan.

In a meeting held on Friday on the situation in Sudan, the African Union’s Pece and Security Council welcomed the appointment of the Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok and the formation of his cabinet on Thursday 5 September.

The transitional government will lead Sudan for 39 months before to run the first free general elections after the fall of the al-Bashir regime as a result of more than four months of popular protests.

The Sudanese prime minister will work to draw international support to the country which had been ruined by the 30-year rule of the Islamist and pariah regime. Also, his government has to sign a peace agreement with gangs that waged war against the former regime.

The Council decided "to lift the suspension of the participation of Sudan in the AU’s activities," said a statement extended to Sudan Tribune after the meeting

The statement further called for the lift of economic and financial sanctions on Sudan ", including removing Sudan from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism". It stressed that the removal will " enhance the economic activities of the country and encourage foreign investments".

The 15-member regional body called for the broader international community to support the efforts of the AU to this end.

Hafizabad police rescue woman held captive for 10 years by brothers over inheritance dispute
[DAWN] Hafizabad police on Friday rescued a 50-year-old woman who was held captive in a room by her own brothers for 10 years.

According to police spokesperson Ahmad Jamal, officials of the department acting on an anonymous tip-off on the telephone raided the house where the woman was being held captive. The woman was allegedly locked away over an inheritance dispute.

According to the first investigation report (FIR) registered against the two men, the person who tipped the police off said that the woman's shrieks did not let neighbours sleep all night and it sounded like she was close to death. The informant said that the woman should be rescued on a humanitarian basis.

According to the FIR, a police team was dispatched to the address, only to find the house locked from outside. While the police tried to find a way inside the premises, a number of neighbours gathered in the street with them. Soon after, one of the brothers returned home and "threatened to kill" the police officials present at the scene.

Upon the man's refusal to let the police enter the house, officials broke the padlock. Once inside, the officials found a semi-conscious woman locked up inside a room. The woman was found in her own excrement.

The neighbours identified the woman as the two men's sister.

After the police managed to bring the woman out of the room, a neighbour gave her a bath and changed her clothes before she was sent to the Rescue 1122 Trauma Centre.

The police then arrested the two men and registered an FIR against them under sections 344, 346, 498A, 506, 186 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Punjab Minister for Human Rights Ijaz Alam was also present at the time of the raid. He assured that the woman would be provided the best possible care while the culprits of the heinous act would be given exemplary punishment.

Bahamas fears severe Dorian death toll, as storm lashes North Carolina
[DAWN] The final death toll from Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas could be “staggering,” a government minister has said as the storm lashed North Carolina in the US on Friday with torrential rain and fierce wind.

Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Minnis told CNN on Thursday that at least 30 people were killed in the storm, which caused what he called “generational devastation.”

Extra morticians and refrigerated coolers to store bodies were being sent to the region to help authorities cope with the deadly impact, Health Minister Duane Sands told local media.

Of the final number killed, he declared: “Let me say that I believe the number will be staggering.”

An AFP team in the town of Marsh Harbour on Great Abaco on Thursday saw scenes of catastrophic damage with homes reduced to matchsticks, overturned cars, fields of jumbled debris, widespread flooding and beached boats.
