Woman Who Media Claims Created Black Hole Image Contributed 0.26% of Code
[BigLeaguePolitics] Meanwhile, the man (who wants you to know that he's gay) who wrote the bulk of the code is worried that she won't get sufficient credit now.

The world won't end with a bang or a whimper.

It will end with a soyboy's uptalking lisp.

#2  To be fair, the lines of code isn't necessarily a good measure. An analysis software stack consists of a lot of low-level stuff (usually fairly generic: e.g. CERN's "root" distribution), then a framework for the rest of the code to run in, then modules to unpack parts of the raw data, calibrate it, provide quality and other measures, and then comes the analysis-code proper. In ours, most of the heavy lifting is done with C++, and most of the analysis involves linking modules and processes the results with python.

I'm told that they put together 4 teams, each using a different analysis and simulation suite, that weren't supposed to confer with each other, so that they'd get some verification that the methods worked and they knew what they were doing.

I have a _lot_ of trouble believing that one man wrote 90% of the software. Installed it in github on behalf of the team, maybe.

All of that said, I don't know anybody in the group, and have no idea why she was selected.

Passenger sprays other passengers, jumps out of jet at Phoenix airport
PHOENIX (AP) ‐ Authorities say a man on a flight that had just landed in Phoenix sprayed other passengers with a liquid from a bottle and then opened one of the jet’s doors and jumped to the tarmac.

Phoenix police spokesman Tommy Thompson says the man randomly touched passengers’ faces and sprayed them after the American Airlines flight from Minneapolis arrived Friday morning at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

Thompson says the man was escorted to the front of the Boeing 737-800 but opened a service door and jumped out.

He fell about 10 feet (3 meters) and suffered minor injuries.
Cleared the door with small carry-on and executed a reasonably good 5 point landing.
Police said they do not know what was in the spray bottle.

Charges are pending against the man, who was not identified.

The flight was carrying 157 passengers.

Backers abandon 2019 Ohio push to bypass Electoral College
From a few days ago, but still interesting.
[ColumbiaDispatch] Barely a week after launching an effort to award Ohio’s electoral votes to the presidential candidate who receives the most popular votes nationally, supporters abandoned the quest for this year.

"Due to the time constraints and high number of signatures needed to place a proposed constitutional amendment on the ballot for 2019, it will not be possible to meet the deadline for this year," said a news release from the attorney handling the issue, longtime Democrat Don McTigue of Columbus.
If they couldn’t get the signatures, it seems unlikely they’d get enough votes.
"The committee, therefore, notified the Ohio secretary of state (Tuesday) that they are withdrawing the petition."

Before the withdrawal, Gov. Mike DeWine told news hounds, "Well, I’m against that, I think that’s a stupid idea, frankly. Why would Ohio voters give up their right to make decisions about who the next president of the United States is?"

If approved, the proposal would have bypassed the Electoral College. Thirteen states and the District of Columbia, with a combined 184 electoral votes, have enacted a similar popular-vote measure into law. States representing 86 more electoral votes would be needed to reach the majority of 270 Electoral College votes to guarantee that the winner of the popular vote nationally would become president. Ohio has 18.

...My concern now is that if that happens, you will see a serious call for the electors from those states to vote for the other guy, "because there's no possible way Trump could have won honestly." And THAT will be where the fighting starts.

#6  As the story mentions, only 13 states plus the district of Columbia have voted to bypass the electoral college. Together they have 184 EC votes. All 184 went to Hillary in 2016.

Ohio's EC votes went to Trump. That is why the anti-EC effort failed there.

Migrants break border gate, force their way into Mexico
MEXICO CITY (AP) ‐ Mexican authorities said a group of about 350 migrants broke the locks on a gate at the Guatemalan border Friday and forced their way into southern Mexico to join a larger group of migrants trying to make their way toward the United States.

The National Immigration Institute did not identify the nationalities of the migrants, but they are usually from Central America.
"No need to identify tus nom. All Vietnamese are enemy."
~ Unknown Humong mercenary.

A similar confrontation occurred on the same border bridge between Mexico and Guatemala last year.

The institute said the migrants were acting in a "hostile" and "aggressive" way, and accused them of also attacking local police in Metapa, a Mexican village that lies between the border and the nearby city of Tapachula.

The group of 350 pushed past police guarding the bridge and joined a larger group of about 2,000 migrants who are walking toward Tapachula in the latest caravan to enter Mexico.

Claudia Jaqueline Sandoval, 43, from El Progreso, Honduras, was walking toward Tapachula with her 6-year-old daughter. Another son and a daughter are already in the United States.

"I have been HIV positive for 16 years," said Sandoval, but her reason for going north was not just medical treatment. "It has been two years since I heard from my son" in the United States, and money is scarce, she said.

There are already several groups of migrants in the southern border state of Chiapas who have expressed frustration at Mexico’s policy of slowing or stopping the process of handing out humanitarian and exit visas at the border.

A group of several hundred Cuban, African and Central American migrants have been waiting at the immigration offices in Tapachula for documents that would allow them to travel to the U.S. border, where most plan to request asylum.

Some members of that group have scuffled with immigration authorities and broken windows at the offices in recent days, accusing officials of making them wait too long for papers.

And another group of an estimated 2,500 Central American and Cuban migrants have been stuck for at least a week further west in the Chiapas town of Mapastepec, also waiting for papers.

Sudan police: 16 killed by well placed stray bullets at protests and sit-ins
[Aljazeera] At least 16 people were killed and 20 others injured by stray bullets at protests and sit-ins on Thursday and Friday, a Sudanese police spokesman said in a statement on Saturday as the nation waited to hear from its newly appointed leader.

Government buildings and private property were also attacked, spokesman Hashem Ali added.

The release of the death toll comes hours after the Sudanese military replaced the country's transitional leader who had been in power only one day.

Thousands of jubilant protesters celebrated in the streets of Khartoum on Friday, after Defence Minister General Awad ibn Auf, announced he was stepping down as head of the ruling military council.

He had been named the de facto leader after President Omar al-Bashir was forced out of office on Thursday after 30 years of rule.

Ibn Auf said he would be replaced by General Abdel Fattah Burhan, general inspector of the armed forces, as head of the transitional council, which will rule the country for two years until elections.

"This is for the benefit of our nation ... This country has great people and a great army," Ibn Auf said in a brief TV statement, adding that he hoped the civilians and the military would work together.

Pope on multiculturalism: 'Migrants always bring riches'
[VOE] In a Q&A session Pope Francis told an audience of schoolchildren who had gathered in the Vatican that "migrants bring with them the wealth of a multicultural and multi-ethnic world".

"Let us thank God for a multi-ethnic and multicultural society", he said, "because dialogue among cultures, persons, and ethnicities is richness".

"Multi ethnicity" and "multiculturalism" are the water of life which, unlike distilled water, is tasty and quenches thirst."

"Migrants are not to be feared as if they were a plague. Migrants are not criminals, just as the mafia was not invented by the Nigerians."

"The mafia is ours, made in Italy: it is ours", the pope said, adding, "We all have the chance to be criminals."

"Migrants are those who always bring us riches. Europe itself was made by migrants! The barbarians, the Celts...", he continued.

"All these came from the north and brought their cultures with them. Europe grew in this way, with the contrast of cultures."

"But today", he lamented, "there is the temptation to a culture of walls, to raise walls, walls in the heart and on earth to prevent this encounter with other cultures, with other people."

"And whoever raises a wall, whoever builds a wall", he warned, "will end up as a slave inside the walls he has built, without horizons."

"If I have a racist heart", the pope urged, "I must examine myself why and convert."

He urged that migrants be received, accompanied and integrated because by welcoming them one becomes richer and grows.

Ohio Governor Signs Historical Pro-Life Bill
[Townhall] Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) gave a victory to the pro-life movement Thursday by signing one of the strictest pro-life bills in the nation.

"The essential function of government is to protect the most vulnerable among us," DeWine said before signing the bill. "Those who do not have a voice. Government’s role should be to protect life from the beginning to the end. To protect those who cannot protect themselves, such as the elderly, the unborn, those who are sick, those who have a disability, those who have a mental illness or an addiction. The signing of this bill today is consistent with that respect for life and the imperative to protect those who cannot protect themselves."

Kamala Harris Doesn't Hate Guns, She Carries One: She Just Doesn't Want You To Have One
[Red State] Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) used the tragedy of the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting to call for gun control back in January, saying that lawmakers would have greed on what to do about gun control following the 2012 massacre of 20 children and six adults if they had been forced into "a locked room, no press, no one, nobody else" and required to examine "the autopsy photographs of those babies."

"There is no reason why we cannot have reasonable gun safety laws in this country," she told a CNN Town Hall crowd in Iowa, who cheered and applauded.

Well now the good senator’s position on gun control is coming into focus as we learn she means gun control for people other than herself.
California Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris said she owns a gun for "personal safety" Thursday, adding she wants to protect the second amendment after leading efforts to ban assault weapons.

"I am a gun owner, and I own a gun for probably the reason a lot of people do ‐ for personal safety," Harris told reporters after attending a party with supporters in Des Moines, Iowa, according to Business Insider. "I was a career prosecutor."

You’re likely reading into that correctly. She packs for personal safety, she says. Because she had a job that demands such a thing. People like her ‐ powerful people ‐ have exerted their power in pursuit of truth and justice so they OF COURSE need firearms to protect themselves.

But you people? What have you possibly done in life ‐ certainly not become a lawyer and prosecuted bad people ‐ to warrant the perks of gun ownership?

But there’s an even deeper message here, and she’s sending it out not to "average" people she might sway to vote for her. No, the more subliminal message is going straight out to the powerful people behind the progressive regime that tends to give Kamala Harris and politicians like her money to stay in the game.

And that message is this: we get the guns, we get the power.

Venezuela's ex-spy chief arrested in Madrid on US warrant
[Aljazeera] Hugo Carvajal, who had advised Hugo Chavez, recently became the biggest military figure to declare loyalty to Guaido.

Venezuela's longtime spy chief was arrested Friday in Madrid by Spanish police acting on a United States warrant for allegedly trafficking tons of cocaine.

Hugo Carvajal, who for more than a decade advised late Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez and headed the country's security apparatus, recently became the most influential military figure to declare his loyalty to opposition leader Juan Guaido.

The opposition saw Carvajal's criticism of Venezuela's current government as a possible stimulus to prod other military figures to defect, but the country's armed forces have remained largely loyal to current President Nicolas Maduro.

Friday's arrest is a result of a 2014 indictment by the Southern District of New York in which the US Attorney's Office accuses Carvajal of having "coordinated the transportation of approximately 5,600 kilograms of cocaine from Venezuela to Mexico" in 2006.

A spokeswoman with Spain's National Court, which handles extradition cases, said that Carvajal would testify on Saturday before Judge Alejandro Abascal in Madrid. He can either accept the extradition to the United States or fight it before the court, explained the official, who wasn't authorised to be identified by name in media reports.

#1  Tell us what you know Hugo my friend, and all of these ridiculous drug charges will vanish. By the way, welcome to the United States.

Carvajal, head of military intelligence from 2004 to 2008, denounced Chavez’ successor Maduro in February and gave his support to Juan Guaido, who in January invoked the constitution to become Venezuela’s interim president.

Guaido was later recognized by the United States and dozens of governments, but Maduro remains in office with support of the military and has denounced Guaido as a U.S. puppet.

Guaido has offered amnesty to military leaders who took his side.

Carvajal recently said on Twitter that he would relay all the information he knows to the appropriate authorities, the senior U.S. administration official said.

“We look forward to receiving that information and to learning everything he knows … about how Maduro and his mafia operate,” the official said.

Washington expects to learn more about Maduro’s ties to Cuba, Lebanon’s Hezbollah, and Colombia’s National Liberation Army (ELN) and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the official said.

Palestinians say 15-year-old killed in Gaza border riot
Damn the negotiations, full riot ahead!
[IsraelTimes] Some 7,000 gather for protest with some throwing rocks and fire bombs at troops who respond with tear gas and occasional live fire; IDF nabs armed man at fence.

Paleostinians said a 15-year-old was shot and killed during weekly riots along the Gazoo Strip border on Friday as rioters threw rocks and fire bombs at IDF troops who responded with tear gas and live fire.

Some 7,400 Paleostinians gathered for the weekly protests at several sites along the border.

The Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,-run Gazoo health ministry said the youth, identified as Maysara Abu Shaloof, was shot in the stomach by live fire. It also said 17 other Paleostinians were maimed, but it was not clear how many of them were hit by live fire.

The army did not immediately comment on the death, but said that troops had apprehended a Paleostinian armed with a gun "near the fence in the northern Gazoo Strip." He was taken for questioning by security services, the IDF said.

The army put the number of protesters at 7,400, saying that it had also identified several attempts to approach the border. "The army responded with riot dispersal means and live fire in accordance with the rules of engagement."

Numbers at the protest were down from last week when 10,000 participated and the week before, the one-year anniversary of the start of the marches, which drew over 40,000.
The Jerusalem Post adds:
A 15-year-old boy was shot in the stomach during festivities with IDF forces east of the Jabaliya refugee camp, according to the Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, Health Ministry on Friday.

According to the report, two other people were maimed by gunfire in festivities with IDF forces east of Gazoo City, when 9,000 demonstrators protested in five locations along the Gazoo border.

According to the sources, all the 14 members of Taliban’s political office in Qatar, including Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, head of Qatar office and deputy leader of the group, have been removed from the UN blacklist for nine months.

, Amir Khan Muttaqi, Qari Din Mohammad, Zahidullah Ahmadzai and Mawlawi Ziaurrahman Madani are also among those who have been removed from the UN blacklist, the sources said.

"This issue (removing names from UN blacklist) was discussed in the first meeting as well, but the Americans were making the excuse that for removing the names, the agreement of the Afghan government is needed. But this time, it is clear that the Americans have made the move, after their 16-day meeting (in Qatar), to reach an agreement," said Nazar Mohammad Mutmaen, a political analyst familiar with Qatar talks.

The Afghan government and the UN have not commented on the report.

Iqbal Khyber, head of People’s Peace Movement said that lifting sanctions on the Taliban’s senior members will help the peace talks.

"This will not only facilitate the peace talks but will also create trust between the two sides," said Khyber.

This comes as the US Special Envoy for Afghan peace Zalmay Khalilzad and his team are expected to start a new round of talks with the Taliban in Qatar later this month. Khalilzad so far has held five rounds of talks with the Taliban which according to him, these meetings have been "productive".

leadership and member of the newly-established Reconciliation Leadership Council, said the working committees of the council have not reached an agreement about the members of the delegation that will attend the Qatar meeting ‐ scheduled for April 19.

"So far, they have not agreed on a list. The government was trying to have more delegates (in the team), but the politicians were not accepting it," Khan said.

The intra-Afghan talks, between the Afghan government, Afghan politicians and the Taliban, is scheduled for April 19 to 21. Initially, the talks were scheduled for April 14, but the Reconciliation Leadership Council on Wednesday said the meeting has been postponed.

This comes as the Taliban announced their spring offensive on Friday morning which is entitled Operation al-Fatha - which means "victory" in Arabic. The group said in a statement that the offensive will be conducted across Afghanistan with the aim of "eradicating occupation" and "cleansing our Moslem homeland from invasion and corruption".

Hours after Taliban announced their so-called spring offensive, a front man of the Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan, Dave Butler, said the coalition forces will continue to support the Afghan forces in the fight against the Taliban as the group has chosen violence despite a "tremendous" opportunity for peace.

in northern Balkh province.

In a report released in February, the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
said the organization has documented 3,804 civilian deaths, including 927 children, in 2018.

In total, UNAMA documented 10,993 civilian casualties (3,804 deaths and 7,189) maimed), representing a five percent increase in overall civilian casualties and an 11 percent increase in civilian deaths compared with 2017.

In this report, UNAMA attributes the majority of civilian casualties ‐ 63 percent ‐ to anti-government elements (37 percent to Taliban, 20 percent to ISIS, and 6 percent to undetermined anti-government elements).

According to the report, pro-government forces caused 24 percent civilian deaths (14 percent by Afghan national security forces, six percent by international military forces, and four percent by other pro-government gangs and forces).

The report says that key factors contributing to the significant increase in civilian casualties were a spike in suicide kabooms by anti-government elements, mainly ISIS, as well as increased harm to civilians from aerial and search operations by pro-government forces.

The report says that 2018 witnessed the highest number of civilian casualties ever recorded from suicide attacks and aerial operations.

Israel claims Iranian missile fired into Golan Heights violated international law
[ALMASDARNEWS] Israel is claiming that the Iranian missile fired into the occupied Golan Heights earlier this year had violated international law.

The missile used was a "medium-range surface-to-surface missile" that was allegedly transferred from Iran to Syria after January 2016; this is a violation of Annex B of the UN Security Council Resolution 2231, the Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said on April 4th, as reported by IHS Janes.

According to Danon, the Iranian missile allegedly "flew no less than 60 km" and was equipped with a "precise warhead".

"The [Security] Council must take responsibility for stopping these activities that continue to jeopardize the safety and security of our region," Danon said in the letter.

As stipulated in UN Resolution 2231, Iran is prohibited from transferring any military equipment to a foreign country.

The attack that took place on January 20th was carried out by the Syrian Arab Army in retaliation for an Israeli projectile that targeted the western part of the country.

jihadis kidnapped two Cuban doctors Friday and killed their police protection officer in northeastern Kenya, police sources said.

They said the two doctors and their guard were on the way to work in the town of Mandera when they were attacked.

"It just happened this morning. The police officer is dead but the two doctors were taken away," a police brass hat, who asked not to be named, told AFP.

"From the modus operandi and the fact that they went towards the Somalia border, we have reasons to believe that the kidnappers are al-shabaab."

The two doctors are part of a group of about 100 Cubans who came to Kenya last year to help boost health services.

According to reports from northern Yemen, the Saudi Navy fired a number of missiles towards the Houthi defenses in the town of Mahatrah, which is located inside the contested Abs region of Hajjah.

The Saudi missile strikes were accompanied by a powerful ground assault by the pro-government tribal forces and Yemeni Army in the Abs region.

For several days now, the Saudi Coalition has been hammering this part of the Hajjah Governorate in a bid to weaken the Houthi resolve and help push the pro-government troops towards the bucolic provincial capital.

Despite these attacks, the pro-government gains have been limited, thanks in large part to the rugged terrain which has helped the Houthi forces greatly in the Abs region.

Russian Air Force unleashes heavy airstrikes over eastern Syria

’s (ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) positions near the town of Harbisha in southwestern Deir Ezzor.

Tonight’s attack on the Islamic State’s positions in southwestern Deir Ezzor comes just 48 hours after a Syrian military convoy disappeared along the Palmyra-Deir Ezzor Highway.

The Syrian high command believes this Syrian Army convoy was attacked by the Islamic State and the soldiers were taken hostage by the terrorist group.

The Russian Air Force typically targets the jihadist rebels in northwestern Syria; however, with the frequent Islamic State ambushes in the Deir Ezzor and Homs governorates, they have switched their attention to this desert front.

Syrian Army launches large attack overnight in northwestern Syria
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a heavy attack across southern Idlib, southwestern Aleppo, and northern Hama last night.

Using a mixture of surface-to-surface missiles and artillery shells, the Syrian Arab Army began their assault by launching a number of projectiles towards Jaish al-Izza’s positions near the Ottoman Turkish observation post in Morek.

The Syrian Arab Army would then follow up this attack by launching simultaneous strikes on the jihadist positions in the southwestern Aleppo town of Khan al-Assal and southern idlib town of Khan Sheikhoun.

This prompted a heavy response from Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
, who also fired a number of missiles and artillery shells towards the government’s positions in the northern countryside of the Hama Governorate.

Over the last few weeks, the fighting in northwestern Syria has intensified to the point that the Russian and Ottoman Turkish armed forces have had to intervene in order to stop the spread of violence.

However,
denial ain't just a river in Egypt...
a source from the Syrian Arab Army told al-Masdar that the likelihood of decreased hostilities in northwestern Syria is very slim because their high command believes Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and their jihadist allies are seeking to expand in southern Idlib and northern Hama.

Ocasio-Cortez Appears On 'The Price Is Right,' Guesses Everything Is Free
[Babylon Bee) Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was pumped to attend a taping of The Price Is Right in Hollywood this week. The special guest introduced herself as a U.S. representative and rising star of the Democratic Party. Things got interesting when the game began and every time it was her turn to estimate the price of an item her answer was "free."

Items included a set of Italian leather handbags, an all expenses paid trip to the Bahamas, and a brand new 2019 BMW 330i, at all of which Ocasio-Cortez shouted, "FREE!"

When host Drew Carey asked if Ocasio-Cortez understood the game's rules, she told Carey not to cat-call her and then responded, "Don't hate me cause you ain't me."

She went on to guess that diamond earrings, a set of jet skis, and even a giant pile of cash were all free. Carey unveiled a package containing world-class healthcare and she said, "Definitely free." She was at one point puzzled by a stack of croissants but eventually guessed that they also were free.

Cortez was never able to advance to the game proper, and as the credits rolled she appeared visibly upset. A hot mic picked up comments she made in frustration, claiming that the game was rigged by capitalism and that "everybody knows giant piles of money are free, that's like basic economics 101"

US announces sanctions against four companies and nine ships linked to Venezuela
[ELUNIVERSAL] The US Treasury Department sanctioned four companies and nine ships on Friday, including some that transported oil from Venezuela to Cuba, as part of the efforts of the Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
government to isolate President Nicolás Maduro.

"We continue to sanction companies that transport Venezuelan oil to Cuba, because they are benefiting while the Maduro regime loots natural resources," Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a statement, reported AFP.

"Venezuelan oil belongs to the Venezuelan people and should not be used as a bargaining tool to support dictators and prolong oppression," he added.

So far, the United States has revoked the visas of 718 Maduro associates and has issued sanctions against more than 150 people and entities.

Despite the sanctions, Maduro clings to power with the help of Russia, China and Cuba. The international coalition that has supported the opposition has 54 countries, although some old US allies have refused to recognize opposition politician Juan Guaidó as legitimate president, which the Trump government has done.

The sanctioned companies are Jennifer Navigation Limited, Lima Shipping Corp. and Large Range Limited, all based in Monrovia, Liberia, and three of their vessels that are presumed to have taken Venezuelan crude to Cuba this year.

In addition, the Treasury sanctioned a PB oil SPA, headquartered in Italia, and six of its oil tankers, including one of the Venezuelan oil derivatives in Cuba.

formally announced the withdrawal of the country from the Union of South American Nations (Unasur), of which it had not participated since last year.

Through a statement it was explained that the crisis that afflicts the body, the prevalence of ideologies and other aspects were the causes of the decision, AFP reported.

"This decision was made in the context of the crisis that afflicts that body, manifested in the general secretariat's accretion for more than two years, as well as an agenda with high ideological content and very far from its initial objectives and administrative disorder. that prevailed in the organization in recent times, "says the letter.

Turkish minister, French lawmaker clash over Armenia ‘genocide’ day
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Ottoman Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu clashed on Friday with a French politician over the commemoration of the "Armenian genocide" in a heated exchange that prompted the French delegation to walk out.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and Armenia are at odds over how to describe treatment of Armenians during the Ottoman era in WWI, with Turkey denying massacres and forced deportations amounted to a genocide.

French President Emmanuel Macron in February announced La Belle France would hold a national day on April 24 to commemorate the "Armenian genocide", drawing criticism from Ankara.

During a meeting of the NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Originally it was a mutual defense pact directed against an expansionist Soviet Union. In later years it evolved into a mechanism for picking the American pocket while criticizing the cut of the American pants...
parliamentary assembly in Antalya in southern Turkey on Friday, Ottoman Turkish parliament chief Mustafa Sentop lashed out at La Belle France’s decree to establish the commemorative day, accusing Gay Paree of "manipulating history."

He also referenced massacres committed in Algeria when it was still a French colony and in Rwanda whose government accuses Gay Paree of being complicit in the 1994 slaughter there.

Attending the meeting, French politician Sonia Krimi, from Macron’s LREM party, criticized Ottoman Turkish comments saying she was shocked. But that provoked a sharp response from Cavusoglu.

"In terms of genocide and history, La Belle France is the last country to be giving lectures to Turkey, and we have not forgotten what happened in Rwanda and Algeria," the minister said.

"You can keep trying to look down on us, but we will keep putting you in your place."

Krimi and the French delegation left the room in protest over Cavusoglu’s remarks.

"When the arrogant @MevlutCavusolgu gives you lessons on arrogance and politeness, arrogantly and without any respect," she wrote on Twitter referring to the incident.

Turkey’s presidential front man Ibrahim Kalin hit back posting on Twitter a story from state news agency Anadolu about "dark stains in French history."

"Neither their colonial past nor their self-centred present guarantees their moral superiority," he wrote.

Two Salu students disappear amid free-will rumours
[DAWN] The disappearance of two students of Shah Abdul Latif University (Salu) here on Thursday sparked rumours of yet another case of a free-will marriage in making as one person appeared to be a Hindu girl and the other a Moslem man.

The family members of the girl, a BS third-year student, approached the A-Section cop shoppe to lodge her missing report as she did not return home from the university at the routine time. They apprehended that she might have been kidnapped and named the suspected man, who appeared to be her class fellow.

The police raided the suspect’s home to arrest him but came to know that he also did not return from the university by the evening.

The police said they were making all-out efforts to locate both the ’missing’ persons.

#1  You have to understand that life in a hindu home in porkistan is shit. And life as a hindu female is lesser than shit. If these girls are refusing to live in these conditions and running away with mochmeds, it's self preservation disguised as a romantic decision. It's more of a socio-economic phenomenon.

#2  Except that kidnapping dhimmi girls for forced conversion and marriage is a regular activity in the Land of the Pure. And seduction of dhimmi girls for willing conversion and marriage without her parents’ permission is also, though in neither case does the Moslem boy truly love her. Free will marriages do happen, including between religions, but the two predatory situations appear to be more common.

Algerian police fire water cannon at protesters
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Algerian police are firing water cannon at protesters in the capital as tensions mount on the eighth week of protests against the country’s leadership.

The protest movement has been overwhelmingly peaceful but police were out in larger than usual numbers Friday.

Reporters from The News Agency that Dare Not be Named saw police spraying water repeatedly on a huge crowd on Didouche Mourad Street in Algiers, on the route toward the central post office that has become a symbol of the movement.

It was unclear whether something prompted the police to act.
Maybe they just needed a shower?
The street was packed with protesters waving Algerian flags. Protesters shouted "Authorities - Assassins!" and surrounded the water cannon truck, with some appearing to hit it.

The protesters pushed out longtime President Abdelaziz Bouteflika
... 10th president-for-life of Algeria. He was elected in 1999 and is currently on his third or fourth term. Maybe it's the fifth....
last week but now want other brass hats to step down too.

Anger is mounting over military chief Gen. Ahmed Gaid Salah, who was instrumental in Bouteflika’s departure but then threw his support behind interim President Abdelkader Bensalah, seen as part of the old regime.

Bensalah was named interim president this week and announced new elections for July 4.

Protest appeals online call for both Bensalah and the military chief to step down.

on Friday.

Ibn Auf said: "I, the head of the military council, announce I am giving up the post," he said, adding he took the decision to preserve the unity of the armed forces.

He also said Chief of Staff Kamal Abdelmarouf al-Mahi was relieved of his position as deputy head of the transitional military council.

Tens of thousands of Sudanese protesters have been rallying in front of the military headquarters in Khartoum, against the military takeover of power after ousting longtime ruler Omar al-Bashir on Thursday.

The Sudanese group spearheading a nationwide protest movement described a decision by the head of a newly formed military council to step down on Friday as a "victory" for the people.

"The stepping down of General Awad Ibn Ouf is a victory of the people’s will," the Sudanese Professionals Association said.

Jubilation erupted across the capital in response to the resignation.

Ibn Auf was sworn in as de facto ruler late Thursday after leading the ouster of al-Bashir following months of protests.

Ibn Auf had been defense minister since 2015 before al-Bashir promoted him to first vice president in February as protests against him intensified.

Syria says Israeli aircraft strike military post in western Hama province
[IsraelTimes] State media claims jets fire missiles from Lebanese airspace, destroying several buildings and injuring three.

Syrian state media said that Israeli aircraft had carried out a strike on military targets near the city of Masyaf in western Hama province overnight Friday.

Syria’s official state news agency SANA said the Israeli Air Force had fired missiles from Lebanese air space and said that several buildings had been destroyed and three people injured.

The report claimed that Syrian air defenses had shot down several missiles.

Earlier, the news agency had reported kabooms in the area’s countryside.

Three Syrian soldiers wounded after Israeli attack on Masyaf

[AlMasdar] (4:45 A.M.) – A little before 3:00 A.M. (local time) this morning, the Israeli Air Force struck the city of Masyaf in the western countryside of Hama.

The Israeli airstrikes struck the Syrian military’s positions around the Masyaf National Hospital; this would result in several explosions that could be heard throughout the Hama countryside.

A source in Masyaf said the Syrian military managed to shoot down some of the Israeli missiles; however, the latter would eventually overwhelm their targets.

At least three soldiers were wounded during the attack; they have been transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment, the source added.

Israeli warplanes strike key Syrian city near new S-300 system

[AlMasdar] (4:05 A.M.) – Earlier this morning, the Israeli Air Force launched several airstrikes on the key Syrian city of Masyaf in the Hama Governorate.

According to a military source near the scene of the airstrikes, the Israeli warplanes hit a number of sites near the Masyaf National Hospital.

The source said the Israeli airstrikes targeted some of the military storages in Masyaf; this resulted in several loud explosions that could be heard as far east as Hama city.
Ooooohhhh — secondaries!
He added that the S-300 system was not in use during the Israeli attack.
Again? Why spend so much money on a defence system that’s never turned on?
Masyaf is an important city because it is considered headquarters of the Tiger Forces and several other military units.

The S-300 system has also been installed around the city.
Really, it doesn’t work unless you turn it on, guys.

Georgia Ethics Chief to Subpoena Stacey Abrams' Gubernatorial Campaign
[Breitbart] Georgia’s newly minted director of the state ethics commission said Thursday his agency will subpoena the bank records of failed Democrat gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams and groups that assisted her with raising campaign funds.

David Emadi, a former Douglas County prosecutor who started Monday as head of the ethics commission, announced plans to look into the Abrams campaign during a press conference on general agency business with reporters.

He did not provide specifics on what kind of possible wrongdoing officials are looking into.

"What I can say about the investigation into the Abrams campaign is, in the relatively near future, I expect we will be issuing subpoenas for bank and finance records of both Miss Abrams and various PACs and special-interest groups that were affiliated with her campaign," said Emadi.

Lauren Groh-Wargo, who served as Abrams campaign manager, said of the imminent inquiry in a statement: "The Abrams campaign worked diligently to ensure compliance throughout the election and, had we been notified of any irregularities, would have immediately taken action to rectify them."

Groh-Wargo continued: "The new ethics chief ― a Kemp donor and former Republican Party leader ― is using his power to threaten and lob baseless partisan accusations at the former Abrams campaign when they should be focused on real problems like the unethical ties between the governor’s office and voting machine lobbyists instead."

How utterly adorable — he’s trying to be a tough negotiator.
[PRESSTV] North Korean leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
says the United States has raised the risk of returning to past tensions after the collapse of his second summit with President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
, stressing that yet another meeting between the two leaders is only possible if Washington comes with the right attitude.
Welp, alrighty then. No soup summit for you!
The North's official KCNA news agency on Saturday quoted Kim as making the remarks, two days after Trump floated the idea of holding a potential third nuclear summit with the North’s leader.

"What is needed is for the US to stop its current way of calculation, and come to us with a new calculation," Kim was quoted as saying in a speech to the Supreme People’s Assembly on Friday.

He also said that he would wait "until the end of this year" for Washington to decide.

Back in late February, Trump and Kim reached an impasse at their second face-to-face denuclearization talks in the Vietnamese capital Hanoi, with Washington demanding full disarmament and Pyongyang demanding economic incentives through partial lifting harsh sanctions.

The second summit in fact did collapse when the American president abruptly walked away from the talks without reaching a deal or even issuing a final statement.

Trump claimed that he quit the talks because Kim demanded to lift all economic sanctions as a prerequisite to denuclearization.

However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable...
Pyongyang quickly responded that it had never asked for the removal of all sanctions, but only the partial removal of them.
"Only the effective ones"

This long-running soap opera is fascinating, but other than Pudge and the guys on our side, it's hard to know anything about the players. But the idea that Trump is going to get rolled in the negotiations is laughable. After dealing with assorted villains, mooks, thugs, grifters, and legislators as a New York real estate developer, this is just another day at the office for Trump - although on a larger scale and with more aircraft carriers.

I do hope we can get Dennis Rodman back into the mix. Maybe as ambassador to NKor. Or did he go back to his home-world?

Ecuador holding Swedish programmer linked to Assange in custody
[Jpost] Ecuador said on Friday it is holding a programmer linked to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in jug pending possible charges of interfering in private communications, a day after ending Assange's seven-year asylum in its London embassy.

Interior Minister Maria Paula Romo said prosecutors could file charges against Ola Bini, who she said lives in Ecuador and had visited Assange in the London embassy a dozen times.

President Lenin Moreno in recent weeks had accused WikiLeaks and Assange of violating his privacy by publishing family photos of him. WikiLeaks denies the accusation, and says Moreno was trying to stifle reporting of corruption allegations against him.

"He is detained for the purposes of investigation. This is a detention that took place in recent hours, ordered by judges of course, and requested by state prosecutors," Romo said in televised comments. "This person is very close to WikiLeaks."

Romo, who on Thursday had announced the detention of an unidentified individual, did not provide further details.

On his website, Bini describes himself as a software developer who works for the Quito-based Center for Digital Autonomy, which focuses on digital privacy and security. The site does not mention WikiLeaks.

Bini and the Center for Digital Autonomy did not immediately respond to emails seeking comment.

Romo said the government had information that Bini had traveled on several occasions with Ricardo Patino, who was Ecuador Foreign Minister when Assange was granted asylum in 2012 during the government of former President Rafael Correa.

Patino via Twitter said he does not know Bini.

Romo said two Russian citizens were also under investigation but had not been tossed in the slammer

Morocco sentences Swiss man to 10 years in jail for ‘terrorism’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A Moroccan court has sentenced a Swiss citizen tossed in the clink
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
in connection with the murder of two Scandinavian hikers to 10 years in prison on terrorism charges, his lawyer said Friday.

Kahlil Idriss said the man, identified only as Nicolas P., 33, was convicted on Thursday in the city of Sale, near Rabat, in a case unrelated to the double murder.

A dual Swiss-Spanish citizen was among more than 20 people arrested after Danish student Louisa Vesterager Jespersen, 24, and 28-year-old Norwegian Maren Ueland were found beheaded on December 17 in the High Atlas mountains south of Marrakesh.

Nicolas P. was arrested in January for having had contact with the Swiss-Spanish national as well as compatriots with ties to Syria, Idriss said.

He was found guilty of "forming a terrorist group".

The lawyer said he has filed an appeal on the basis that his client had signed a police report in Arabic without having read it.
So he's guilty of Felony Stupidity as well
The accused told the court he had been paid by Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
’s secret services for making contact with Swiss terror suspects.

Moroccan authorities allege the four main suspects in the hikers’ murders were sympathizers of the ISIS group but not in direct contact with ISIS members in Iraq or Syria.
The Jerusalem Post adds:
The 33-year-old man sentenced on Thursday was identified by Moroccan media only as Nicolas P. Media said he also holds British citizenship.

Arrested on Dec. 29 in Marrakech, he was tried on charges of "forming a gang to plot and commit terrorist acts aiming at seriously undermining state security, intentionally helping the perpetrators of terrorist acts, training people to join terrorist organizations and apologia for terrorism," MAP said.

The first instance verdict, which will likely be followed by an appeal, was separate from the case of a Swiss-Spanish national, identified by media as Kevin P. His lawyer, Saad Salhi, told Rooters his trial, as part of a group of 25 other suspects in the double murder, had not begun yet.

Four main suspects pledged allegiance to Islamic State

Defense chief says Pentagon likely to send more troops to border soon
[The Hill] Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan said Friday that he expects the Pentagon will soon send additional troops to the border, though the Defense Department (DOD) has yet to receive a formal request for such support.

"It shouldn't come as a surprise that we'll provide more support to the border," Shanahan told reporters prior to meeting with German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen at the Pentagon.

"Our support is very elastic, and given the deterioration there at the border, you would expect that we would provide more support," he said.

Asked if troops would be involved in detaining migrants in any way, he said "we haven't received any details on that, but I expect an increase in support will occur."

President Trump earlier this week said he may send more troops to the U.S.-Mexico border to deal with the spike in migrant families entering the country.

"I’m going to have to call up more military," Trump said Wednesday.

NBC News reported that Shanahan was among the top national security advisers who gathered at the White House Tuesday night to discuss whether the military could build tent city detention camps for migrants and whether it could legally run the camps.

There are roughly 3,000 active-duty service members at the southern border after Trump first deployed troops there in the fall to assist in addressing a migrant caravan traveling from Central America.

The troops are in addition to about 2,000 National Guard members ordered there in April 2018 to assist in border security.

Guess war would need to be declared, then the mine fields would slow the delivery of Biden's cocaine.
