Woman Who Media Claims Created Black Hole Image Contributed 0.26% of Code

[BigLeaguePolitics] Meanwhile, the man (who wants you to know that he's gay) who wrote the bulk of the code is worried that she won't get sufficient credit now.

The world won't end with a bang or a whimper.

It will end with a soyboy's uptalking lisp.

#2  To be fair, the lines of code isn't necessarily a good measure. An analysis software stack consists of a lot of low-level stuff (usually fairly generic: e.g. CERN's "root" distribution), then a framework for the rest of the code to run in, then modules to unpack parts of the raw data, calibrate it, provide quality and other measures, and then comes the analysis-code proper. In ours, most of the heavy lifting is done with C++, and most of the analysis involves linking modules and processes the results with python.

I'm told that they put together 4 teams, each using a different analysis and simulation suite, that weren't supposed to confer with each other, so that they'd get some verification that the methods worked and they knew what they were doing.

I have a _lot_ of trouble believing that one man wrote 90% of the software. Installed it in github on behalf of the team, maybe.

All of that said, I don't know anybody in the group, and have no idea why she was selected.

#1  To be fair, gay man sees black hole would appear to be satire.
