Afghanistan
US ‘Does Not Support Organized Violent Opposition to the Taliban’
What utter asininity.
[ToloNews] The US Department of State said that Washington does "not support violent mostly peaceful opposition against the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
"We are monitoring the recent uptick in violence closely and call on all sides to exercise restraint and to engage. This is the only way that Afghanistan can confront its many challenges," a State Department spokesperson told The Foreign Desk as cited by the Long War Journal.

"We want to see the emergence of stable and sustainable political dispensation via peaceful means. We do not support organized violent mostly peaceful opposition to the Taliban, and we would discourage other powers from doing so as well," the US State Department representative said.

Analysts said the Islamic Emirate needs to form a policy through which it can alleviate the current challenges in Afghanistan.

"Diplomatic representatives are meeting the representatives of the Islamic Emirate. We call for a policy to rescue Afghanistan from the current situation," said Ahmad Khan Andar, a political analyst.

Meanwhile,
...back at the alley, Slats Chumbaloni was staring into a hole that was just .45 inch in diameter and was less than three feet from his heavily sweating face ...
the US Department of State in a separate statement expressed concerns over human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
abuses in Afghanistan.

"We are alarmed by human rights abuses in Afghanistan, often attributed to the Taliban, and are disturbed by the extensive restrictions on the enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms by Afghan women and girls. The resolution will enable Afghan civil society to address the HRC directly during its September session," the statement said.

"The concerns and resolutions have come from the international community but they have had no effect on the rights of girls and women in Afghanistan," said Beheshta Baluch, a women’s rights activist muppet.

Meanwhile,
...back at the alley, Slats Chumbaloni was staring into a hole that was just .45 inch in diameter and was less than three feet from his heavily sweating face ...
the Islamic Emirate denied any violations of human rights in Afghanistan and said that the rights of all citizens are ensured based on Islamic Sharia.

"The Islamic Emirate is committed to all the rights which are given by Islam to the people, and all their rights are ensured," said Bilal Karimi, deputy front man for the Islamic Emirate.

Earlier, the UN Human Rights Council issued a resolution expressing concerns over restrictions imposed by the Islamic Emirate on women.

The Taliban are objectively and deliberately evil in their own right, for which they receive no instruction whatsoever. They are directionally less evil than Al Qaeda and ISIS only because they don’t have the Arab kinks for slavery and public torture, preferring the simpler Pashtun pleasures of bacha boys and taking young wives from the daughters of their unable-to-protest neighbours. But they are equally totalitarian, if slicker about it because they ruled over the country once before, and have experience.

Kabul Asks Ex-ANDSF Soldiers Studying in India to Return
[ToloNews] Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior Affairs asked all military students who are in India and other countries to return to Afghanistan.

Abdul Nafi Takor, front man of the ministry, told TOLOnews that these students will be assigned to the country's security and defense institutions based on their expertise.

"Afghan soldiers in India are the assets of Afghanistan, we hope they return to the country; based on their expertise we will assign them to different security and defense institutions," Takor said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pound, the little lost dog backed into the corner and showed its teeth. And what big teeth they were!...
officials of the Afghanistan embassy in India said that military students have not decided yet to return to the country due to security threats.

"These students are afraid of returning to Afghanistan, because they have no assurances about their future," said Abdulhaq Azad, press director at the Afghanistan embassy in India.

But some military experts believe that for the return of soldiers from India, the Islamic Emirate should build trust.

"Most people think that these students who have studied in India are not committed to their country. This is not true, these are professional and patriotic people, trust should be built," said Assadullah Nadim, a military expert.

More than 200 military students have completed their studies in India during the past eleven months, and since 2005, India has provided educational opportunities for hundreds of Afghan soldiers.

Mali to suspend all new UN peacekeeping rotations
[AlAhram] Mali said Thursday it was suspending rotations of the UN's peacekeeping mission for "national security" reasons, in the latest complication in ties between the ruling junta and international partners.

Rotations of the MINUSMA mission are being suspended, including those that have already been scheduled, the foreign ministry in Bamako said.

The suspension will last until a meeting is held to "facilitate the coordination and regulation" of the rotation of contingents, it said in a statement.

The announcement did not expound on the reasons for the move.

But it came four days after Mali arrested 49 Ivorian soldiers it later described as "mercenaries" intent on toppling the country's military-led government.

Ivory Coast says the soldiers are so-called National Support Elements (NSE) -- a UN procedure allowing peacekeeping contingents to use outside contractors for logistical duties.

The soldiers, who were arrested after arriving at Bamako airport aboard a special flight, comprised the eighth rotation under this scheme, according to Ivory Coast.

Mali's statement on Thursday did not refer to the Ivorians' arrest, nor did it give a date for talks to discuss MINUSMA rotations.

But it assured the UN mission that Mali would "work diligently to create conditions conducive to the lifting of this suspension of rotation, which is an essential step in enabling the deployed contingents to ensure the proper implementation of MINUSMA's mandate."

UN MISSION
MINUSMA -- the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali -- was launched in 2013 to help one of the world's poorest countries cope with a bloody jihadist campaign.

It is one of the UN's biggest peacekeeping operations, with around 12,200 soldiers and 1,700 police sent by some 50 countries.

Its mandate was renewed for one year on June 29, despite Mali's "firmly opposing" requests to allow freedom of movement for human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
Sherlocks with the mission.

On July 7, MINUSMA head El-Ghassim Wane told a news conference that the mission needed the "support and cooperation of the Malian authorities", calling for "constant dialogue" to overcome "misunderstandings".

In mid-January, Mali suspended MINUSMA air operations for several days following what it said was a reorganization of the process for approving flights over conflict zones.

The suspension was lifted after "fruitful discussions", authorities said.

MINUSMA operates regular flights between Mali and neighbouring countries for supply missions and to evacuate maimed fighters.

FRENCH PULLOUT
Meanwhile,
...back at the shootout, Butch clutched at his shoulder. Ow! he exclaimed, with feeling......
La Belle France's Barkhane anti-jihadist mission is expected to complete its pullout from Mali in the coming weeks after relations between Gay Paree and Bamako are foundered.

The junta has brought in Russians that it says are military advisers but which La Belle France says are paramilitaries of the controversial Wagner group.

In April, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said around 300 civilians had been massacred in central Mali the previous month by Malian forces and suspected Russian fighters.

Mali's military regime also spent the first half of 2022 under economic sanctions by its West African neighbours over its failure to respect its timetable for restoring civilian rule.

Mali underwent coups in August 2020 and May 2021, creating a political crisis that coincides with an ongoing security crisis.

Jihadists joined a regional insurgency in northern Mali in 2012 and then extended their campaign to the centre of the country and neighbouring Burkina Faso

and Niger.

Thousands of civilians have died, more than two million have fled their homes, and economic damage to countries that are among the poorest in the world has been severe.

Egyptian, Iranian officials met secretly in Muscat
[Jpost] Cairo assured Tehran Negev Summit not aimed against the Islamic Republic, sources say.

Senior Iranian and Egyptian officials held a secret meeting in Oman on June 27, during Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s visit to the sultanate, informed sources tell The Media Line.

“Egypt assured Iran during the meeting that the Negev Summit is not directed against Iran and will not include any military moves against it. The meeting discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip, the Syrian issue, and other files in the Middle East, and opened the door to relations between the two countries,” the sources added.

The Negev Summit, which first met in Israel in March, is a discussion group that aims to promote economic and security cooperation between Israel and its Arab allies.

Iran’s Mehr News Agency confirmed the existence of the meeting in Oman, but it did not specify the issues that were discussed between Cairo and Tehran. Egyptian and Gulf news agencies and newspapers did not report any news about the meeting.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian did say on July 3 that “Egypt is an important country in the Islamic world,” but indicated that there were no direct discussions between the two countries.

‘Defund the Cartels' ‐ Rep. Mayra Flores Talks Border Crisis in Exclusive Interview
[Breitbart] A newly-elected Texas Congresswoman is calling for the defunding of the Mexican cartels effectively in control of the U.S. southwestern border.

“We need to defund the cartels,” U.S. Congresswoman Mayra Flores said during an exclusive interview in Spanish with Breitbart News, where she talked about how criminal organizations from Mexico are the only ones benefiting from the current border crisis.

Flores made history in June when she became the first Mexican-born female to be elected to the House of Representatives. She flipped Texas Congressional District 34, which was historically a Democrat stronghold.

“Unfortunately, we have a border that is in control of criminal organizations,” Flores said, referring to the operational control along the border by the Gulf Cartel and the Cartel Del Noreste faction of Los Zetas. Currently, the Gulf Cartel operates one of the most active human and drug trafficking corridors in Flores’s district. “It is a sad reality, but no one can cross the border into this country without having to pay thousands of dollars to criminal organizations.”

The issue which has been largely ignored by most politicians in Washington and helped create a cycle of violence and abuse where women and children suffer unspeakable horrors at the hands of cartel-connected smugglers, she said.

In many cases, victims suffer sexual and physical abuse. In other instances, victims are kidnapped and held for ransom. “It is something that is happening that in reality, it embarrasses me that it is happening in this country because we are better than that,” Flores added.

According to Flores, securing the border and creating a streamlined process for legal immigration would help to defund cartels.

“I believe that we need to secure our border and to help good people come here legally,” she said. “Where there is a safe process also where people can come without having to go through, like I said before, without having to go through hell.”

#2  The cartels are pretty careful about not provoking a US response by plugging ranchers or otherwise creating American martyrs. I think they should be designated as terrorists, but they aren’t on the radar of most Americans. If they kill a beautiful young Congresswoman, there will not be much political will to derail designating them as terrorists. People will be faced with the reality of the number of Americans that they are killing with fentanyl. Only Planned Parenthood and Toni Fauci kill more Americans.

#4  I think they should be designated as terrorists, but they aren’t on the radar of most Americans.

Narco cartel doings are filed under War on Terror here, originally because of the longstanding connections between various cartels in Latin America and various jihadi groups, including Iran’s IRGC.

Yasin Malik seeks physical appearance in court

Chief of banned JKLF Yasin Malik
...chairman of one of the two factions of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front. JKLF is a Kashmiri nationalist organization founded in Birmingham, UK in 1977. Branches weren't actually established in Kashmir for another ten years. It has the usual demands for separation of J&K from secular India so it can become an independent Islamic rathole. It seems to have no interest in Pak Kashmir breaking away to join it. In 1994 Malik renounced violence after he was released from jail and from that point he and his organization pursued peaceful means to impose their will on the region...
on Wednesday requested a special court here for physical appearance in a case related to the kidnapping of former chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed’s daughter Rubaiya, failing which he would sit on an indefinite hunger strike, officials said.

They said that Malik, who is undergoing a life sentence in a terror-funding case, appeared before the court through video conference.

Malik said he has written to the government for a physical appearance before the court.

He also informed the court that he has requested for cross examination of witnesses himself and said he would sit on hunger strike if his request was not accepted by the government.

The case pertains to the kidnapping of Rubaiya Sayeed on December 8, 1989. She was freed from captivity five days later on December 13 after the then V P Singh government, supported by the BJP at the Centre, released five Death Eaters from the Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
Liberation Front (JKLF) in exchange.

The case had gone into virtual cold storage and was revived after Malik was picked up by the National Investigation Agency in 2019 on charges of terror funding.

In January last year, the CBI, with help from special public prosecutors Monika Kohli and S K Bhat, framed charges against 10 people, including Malik, in the Rubaiya kidnapping case that turned out to be a turning point in the Valley’s volatile history.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
What's on Biden's schedule on his last day in Israel?
[Jpost] President Biden will travel to Bethlehem to meet with Mahmoud Abbas, Chairman of the Palestinian Authority.

US President Joe Biden will depart Israel Friday afternoon, on a direct flight from Tel Aviv to Saudi Arabia.

Much of his last day will focus on the Palestinian Authority, as he expected to announce that the US will contribute $100 million for the east Jerusalem hospital network. According to a senior administration official, the network provides services to 50,000 patients from east Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza annually.

MEETING WITH ABBAS
After visiting the Augusta Victoria hospital – without being accompanied by Israeli officials – he will travel to Bethlehem where he will meet with Mahmoud Abbas, Chairman of the Palestinian Authority.

“At the meeting, President Biden will underscore his commitment to a two-state solution which President Biden and Prime Minister Lapid both affirm their support for at the press conference,” the official said.

President Biden will announce an additional $201 million for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), the official said. “It has been a priority for President Biden to rebuild ties with the Palestinians that were severed by the previous administration.”

Biden will also announce that Israel and the Palestinian Authority will relaunch Israeli Palestinian economic discussions by reconvening the Joint Economic Committee that last met all the way back in 2009, the official added, saying this is “a long-awaited step.”

Later, he will visit the Church of the Nativity, “to underscore support for Christians who face challenges in the region, the official continued. “

FLIGHT TO SAUDI ARABIA
After that, he will become the first American President to fly directly from Israel to Saudi Arabia, where he will carry a message encouraging peace, stability, and an integrated, more interconnected region.

”After landing in Jeddah, President Biden will have bilateral meetings with Saudi leaders including the King, the Crown Prince, and ministers from across the Saudi government together with his team," said the official.

Speaking about Biden’s visit to Saudi Arabia, the official said that Biden is “committed to ensuring that the United States will not leave a vacuum in the Middle East to be filled by China, Russia or others.”

“That would be a great danger to the Middle East, to the people of the Middle East, and ultimately to the United States of America,” the official said. “So for Putin to be visiting Tehran at this moment in history, and we know that he is hoping to receive a significant number of drones and UAVs from Iran to fight his illegal war on aggression in Ukraine - that speaks for itself. Putin is making a bet on Iran, we’re making a bet on a stable, more integrated, more prosperous, more secure, Middle East.”
