Abbott: Enhanced Inspections Have Forced Multiple Mexican States to Negotiate on Border Security, We'll Keep Inspections if They Don't
[Breitbart] On Thursday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) stated that the enhanced safety inspections of commercial vehicles coming into Texas from Mexico have predictably resulted in the governors of multiple Mexican states demanding relief from the traffic slowdowns caused by the inspections, and that as those states demand relief, “we are demanding that they implement security measures that will reduce illegal immigration coming across the border.”

He added that the governors of several Mexican states have either reached an agreement or are in talks with Texas to implement security measures. Abbott also vowed that if Mexican states won’t bolster security, “we are going to continue with our right to inspect every single vehicle coming across that bridge into the state of Texas, regardless of the economic consequences it poses to Mexico.”

Abbott said the inspections “had the predictable result, and that is it snarled traffic for miles…basically crashing economic conditions in these states as well as in the country of Mexico and having severe economic consequences for businesses in Mexico. And the predictable result is that these governors of states that are connected to the state of Texas would be knocking on our door begging for relief. And as they beg for relief, we are demanding that they implement security measures that will reduce illegal immigration coming across the border.”

He continued, “There are different standards that we will be applying to different states that are connected to the state of Texas. Yesterday, we announced an agreement with the governor of Nuevo Leon. Today, we are hammering out details with two more states that are adjacent to Texas, they have border crossings in Texas, that will have some different measures that enhance security, that [stop] the flow of illegal immigrants from their states to the state of Texas, and then there will be one more state governor that we are dealing with tomorrow to try to hammer out details with him. Altogether, we expect and we demand that, on the Mexican side, they finally step up and stop these low-water crossings and other actions that are allowing these illegal immigrants to cross the border. If they fail to do that, we are going to continue with our right to inspect every single vehicle coming across that bridge into the state of Texas, regardless of the economic consequences it poses to Mexico.”

Abbott added that “you may see heightened migration attempts in other states like New Mexico and California where they are being less resistant as Texas is.”

Mexican Cartel Gunmen Torch Trucks at Border Port to Protest New Texas Checkpoints
[Breitbart] Cartel gunmen set fire to three tractor-trailers outside an international port of entry Wednesday to protest Texas’ rollout of new border enforcement programs ahead of Title 42’s cancellation. The torching comes at a time when truckers and politicians on both sides of the border oppose additional vehicle inspections ordered by Governor Greg Abbott.

The case took place on Wednesday afternoon in Reynosa, near the Pharr International Port of Entry. The Tamaulipas government disclosed that a group of men riding in SUVs set fire to three tractor-trailers waiting at the port. State police forces were able to track the men using surveillance cameras. Authorities managed to arrest three men suspected of being part of the Reynosa faction of the Gulf Cartel and seized two vehicles. It remains unclear if more gunmen took part. Inside one of the vehicles, authorities found a container of gasoline.

The three men are in police custody undergoing questioning.

Texas DPS Border Inspections Take 1K Dangerous Commercial Trucks, 84 Drivers Off U.S. Roadways
[Breitbart] Texas Department of Public Safety troopers conducting safety inspections of commercial vehicles at ports of entry stopped nearly 1,000 trucks with “serious safety violations” from driving into the state. The increased inspections are being carried out under an order from Governor Greg Abbott as part of a response to the growing border crisis.

Troopers took nearly 25 percent of the 4,133 commercial vehicles inspected during the first six days following the governor’s announcement off the roadways for “serious safety violations,” according to a statement provided by DPS officials. Troopers placed 973 commercial vehicles out of service following the inspections. These safety violations included defective brakes, defective tires, and defective lighting. Troopers also placed 84 drivers out of service for violations of state or federal regulations.

Abbott, Mexican governor reach agreement to secure part of Texas-Mexico border
[Breitbart] Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and the governor of the Mexican state of Nuevo León signed a memorandum of understanding Wednesday expressing their shared commitment to increase security along their shared border.

Abbott and Gov. Samuel García signed the agreement at a news conference in Laredo, Texas. They reached the agreement after Abbott expanded border security measures through Operation Lone Star, directing Texas Department of Public Safety officers to perform enhanced security checks of commercial trucks at ports of entry. This led to protests and major jams, halting international commerce at at least three major ports of entry on Monday and Tuesday.

Garcia began implementing security measures on the Rio Grande River and at ports of entry in Nuevo León on Tuesday, he said.

Nuevo León, located in the northeast region of Mexico, shares a 14-kilometer border with Texas. The Laredo-Columbia Solidarity International Bridge, which saw backlogs as a result of Abbott’s new policy, connects Laredo, Texas, to Colombia in Anáhuac, Nuevo León.

Abbott also announced that crossing the Laredo-Columbia Bridge “will return to normal effective immediately” and remain that way “as long as Nuevo León executes this historic agreement.

“Since Nuevo León has increased security on its side of the border,” Abbott said, Texas DPS was returning to its previous policy of randomly stopping vehicles crossing the bridge into Texas instead of performing enhanced checks.

Through OLS, Texas law enforcement officers have apprehended known convicted murderers, previously convicted child rapists, kidnappers, drug traffickers, MS-13 gang members and cartel members who’ve entered Texas illegally from Mexico, and seized enough fentanyl “to kill every man, woman, and child in the U.S.,” Abbott said.

“Texas is apprehending people crossing our borders illegally from countries like China, Iran, Russia, Iraq and more than 150 countries,” he added. “It’s time for the Biden administration to stop it.

“Until he does, Texas will continue to use its own strategies and work with Mexico to secure the border.”

#1 Comment from Breitbart on the "dangerous commercial trucks" issue:
“These unnecessary inspections are occurring when vehicles exit U.S. ports of entry within the El Paso and Laredo areas of operation after being comprehensively inspected and cleared to enter the United States by CBP,” the statement reads. Absolute 100% BULL SCHIFF. The CBP DOES NOT do safety inspections. Full stop. End of lie. They inspect for illegal material/contraband and that is ALL. They do not do DOT type safety inspections on the drivers or the equipment.
