-Lurid Crime Tales-
CBP Seizes 6 Tons of Fentanyl in 2023, Nearly Matches 2022 Total
[Breitbart] U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than 12,000 pounds of fentanyl during the first four months of Fiscal Year 23. This nearly equals the nearly 12,500 pounds seized during the entire previous fiscal year.

Between October 1, 2022, and January 31, 2023, CBP officers assigned to ports of entry across the United States seized 12,017 pounds of fentanyl, according to the CBP Drug Seizures Report for January. This compares to 12,493 pounds of fentanyl seized during the entire Fiscal Year 22.

During the month of December 2012, CBP officers seized 6,200 pounds of the deadly drug. One year earlier, officers seized only 523 pounds.

The agency is on pace to shatter last year’s record for fentanyl seizures. The trend does not appear to be letting up. In February, CBP officers assigned to the Port of Nogales seized another 195,000 fentanyl pills and 2.03 pounds of fentanyl powder hidden in a vehicle crossing the border from Mexico.

A few days earlier, officers assigned to the Douglas Port of Entry found another smuggler attempting to enter the United States with 185 packages of blue pills that tested positive for fentanyl. Officials say this equates to approximately 180,000 pills.

#1  The government has been making busts like this for decades and always making a big deal about it for the media. The numbers are always so huge you just can't imagine how the cartels can keep making money. And yet there is no shortage of fentanyl on the streets and the cartels continue rake in billions. How can this be? Could it be that these huge busts are merely a tax on the cartels, mere drops in the river of drugs flowing into this country? Could it be these busts are nothing but a show the government puts on for the rubes?

Fentanyl is taking American lives at the same rate as World War 2. Where is the mobilization, the counter attack, the destruction of those that attack us?

Daily Evacuation Brief February 22-23, 2023: Mass Arrests in Panjshir

Daily Evacuation Brief | February 23, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • TORKHAM CROSSING TO REOPEN TODAY – The Ministry of Information announced that a compromise had been reached with Pakistan and the border crossing would reopen today. The truck drivers and pedestrians on both sides of the border have been described as being in a foul mood over the delay and there were some fights reported among truck drivers over who would be given priority to pass through this morning. Police had to intervene in two of the scuffles.

  • MASS ARRESTS IN PANJSHIR – The Taliban has been active in Dara District and 50 non-combatants were reportedly rounded up and taken into custody. Eyewitnesses say that only men and boys were arrested and a source in the Ministry of Defense stated the operation was a preemptive move to warn other Panjshiris about joining the NRF for the upcoming spring campaign season. The status of those arrested is currently unknown.

  • TALIBAN WORKING FORMALLY WITH RUSSIA AND IRAN TO SET UP INVESTMENT CONSORTIUM – The Minister of Commerce announced the formal signing of a memorandum of agreement between his office, 14 prominent Afghan businessmen, and a consortium of regional companies valued at over $1 billion dollars. Analysts raised concerns about the banking transfers and whether any may violate sanctions placed on Russia and Iran. Two of the bigger projects being discussed were infrastructure related. The first is a parallel tunnel through the Salang pass and the second was a major water canal that would divert rivers in Panjshir to Kabul.

  • CLERICAL COUNCILS FORMED IN 3 PROVINCES – After a decree by the Supreme Leader, Provincial leaders are rushing to form clerical councils to provide Sharia interpretations in civil and juridical matters. Badakhshan, Nangarhar, and Ghazni join 16 other provinces that have implemented Akhundzada’s will. The remaining provinces are in the process of establishing their ulemas.

CONFLICT TRACKER
Nangarhar: A three-man team ambushed 1 Talib security member in the Khogyano district, killing him in the process. The ALM has stepped up operations in several districts as of late.

NEXT 24 HOURS
  • TORKHAM TO REOPEN, TRAVELERS SHOULD REMAIN VIGILANT – Using the recent cross-border incidents at Spin Boldak-Chaman as a guide, we often see a ripple effect after a primary engagement which could mean more shooting today or in the days to come. In addition to the threat of cross-border gunfire, there are reports that many of the truck drivers were jostling to get through the border quickly and some fistfights had been reported along the queue throughout the night. At-risk Afghans planning on visiting Torkham should be aware of the potential for more shooting and there may be disturbances as trucks make a dash for the gate after it opens.

  • PASSPORT DIRECTORATE EXPECTED TO RELEASE A STATEMENT – Rumors that the Passport Directorate may finally be reopening have been rampant and an announcement should be released to the Bakhtar News Agency sometime over the next twenty-four hours.

Daily Evacuation Brief | February 22, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • BLAST IN KABUL, NO CASUALTIES REPORTED – A magnetic mine damaged a vehicle in Police District 2 yesterday morning near the shrine of Abu Fazl. No casualties had been observed or reported as a result of the blast. It is not clear who may have triggered the explosive device and no group has claimed credit.

  • RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS HAVE DOUBLED IN CHILDREN – Medical professionals blame the severe winter weather and likely nutritional deficiencies brought on by the economic crisis for the problem. Hospitals are facing a lack of beds, pediatric specialists, and medicines to treat the ailment.

  • KAM AIR SAID IT PLANS TO RETRIEVE THE REMAINS OF THE 18 AFGHANS WHO DIED IN BULGARIA – The victims were discovered in a truck with scores of other Afghans in what authorities have called a ‘human smuggling’ operation gone awry.

  • TALIBAN WILL CREATE 27 NEW DISTRICTS – The new districts will be located in Helmand, Farah, Baghlan, Faryab, Sar-e-pul, Ghor, Badghis, Paktika, Zabul, Nuristan, and Kandahar. It has been rumored the additions serve no purpose other than to create employment for the Taliban loyalists.

  • TORKHAM GATE NEGOTIATIONS ONGOING, TRUCKS LINED UP FOR MILES – Local estimates say as many as 6,000 trucks are stacked up behind the border waiting for the crossing to be reopened. Negotiations continued but it was not clear what was holding an agreement up. Pakistani officials attempted to divert some of the cargo traffic to smaller border crossings but drivers feared taking the detour over fears of banditry along the roads.

NEXT 24 HOURS
TORKHAM GATE SECURITY CONCERNS TO LINGER – Even though negotiations have continued, local eyewitnesses say that border forces on the opposing sides have continued to make threatening and aggressive gestures at each other. A late report yesterday said an additional Pakistani checkpoint had been fired on in a neighboring Province but no proof was provided. Still, the crossing could easily devolve into violence. Exacerbating the tensions, many transport drivers who are facing significant losses as their loads of vegetables and perishables expire may choose to demonstrate and cause a commotion on either side of the border. Such actions have notably fomented cross-border altercations on three occasions in 2022. At-risk Afghans are once again advised to remain away from the area until traffic and border operations return to normal.

peacekeepers serving in Mali were killed, and five others seriously injured, when their vehicle hit an bomb

The incident took place that morning near the village of Songobia, in central Mali, as their supply convoy was heading to its base in Sévaré.

El-Ghassim Wane, the head of MINUSMA, condemned the attack and offered his deepest condolences to the families and colleagues of the dear departed peacekeepers.

"This is another tragic illustration of the complexity of our operational environment and the sacrifices made by the international community for peace in Mali," he said.

MINUSMA is one of the most dangerous peace operations for "blue helmets". Since its establishment in 2013, 168 peacekeepers have bit the dust in hostile acts.

While renewing MINUSMA's commitment to work for peace in Mali, Mr. Wane recalled that attacks on peacekeepers can constitute war crimes under International Law.

He stressed "the need to do everything possible to identify and bring to justice the perpetrators of hostile acts against MINUSMA".

The UN Security Council condemned the attack in the strongest terms. The Council issued a statement calling on the transitional authorities in Mali to swiftly investigate the attack with the support of MINUSMA, and promote accountability by bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Members reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.

They also underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of terrorism to justice.

Islamic State accountant detained in Azerbaijan
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] The special services of Azerbaijan reported on the detention of an accountant of the Islamic State, who had been hiding in different countries for a long time.

The State Security Service of Azerbaijan announced the arrest of a man who is an accountant of the Islamic State* terrorist organization on February 21.

According to the State Security Service, the detainee was hiding for a long time in different countries, informs APA.

On this fact, large-scale operational and investigative measures are underway, writes oxu.az.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" wrote that citizens of the country suspected of involvement in terrorism are regularly arrested in Azerbaijan. So, in October 2019, Bahram Gulaliyev, known as Abu Ibrahim Dagestani, was extradited to Azerbaijan from Pakistan. According to the State Security Service of Azerbaijan, he was engaged in the manufacture of explosive devices and trained other militants in Afghanistan in this, and was also engaged in the recruitment of Azerbaijani citizens.

In September 2020, a court in Baku found Gulaliev guilty of teaching militants how to make bombs. Together with him, three more accused of involvement in a terrorist organization were arrested. On August 9, the court upheld the verdict on Azerbaijani citizens sentenced to terms ranging from two and a half to eight years in prison.

In September 2021, Azerbaijani special services detained Mansur Dzhumaev and Nasir Jahangirov on suspicion of involvement in militants .

It should be reminded that the orientalists previously interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" stated that many militants of the "Islamic State"*, including natives of Azerbaijan, moved to Afghanistan after the defeat of the group of militants in Syria and Iraq, but the flow of volunteers recruited by the militants from Azerbaijan itself has already dried up.

The Israel Defense Forces said troops had entered Nablus to arrest Isleem, a senior member of the Lion’s Den terror group, who was allegedly the third member of a cell that killed Staff Sgt. Ido Baruch during a shooting attack in October. The other two were detained last week.

A military source told The Times of Israel that soldiers surrounded a home where three suspects, all members of the Lion’s Den terror group, were holed up, demanding they turn themselves in. Officers of the elite police Yamam unit fired missiles at the building, to flush the men out in a technique known as "pressure cooker."

Two of the suspects were killed inside the building, while the third was rubbed out while he tried to escape.

Soldiers later found two firearms and ammunition in the building, the IDF said.

The IDF named the other two Lion’s Den members as Fattah and Dkhail. The military said Fattah was also affiliated with the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
, and all three men had participated in shooting attacks against Israeli forces in the northern West Bank.

Lion’s Den and the Islamic Jihad later claimed six of the fatalities as members.

Clashes erupted elsewhere in the city. The IDF said troops came under "massive gunfire," and responded with live fire at button men.

The IDF was anticipating a response to the deadly raid, a senior military official told news hounds.

"The resistance in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
is watching the enemy’s escalating crimes against our people," Abu Obeida, front man of the Gaza-ruling Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, terror group’s military wing, said in a statement.

No Israeli troops were hurt in Wednesday’s raid, which came after a similar daytime operation in Jenin last month when ten Paleostinians, including an elderly woman, were killed amid fierce festivities between Israeli troops and button men.

That raid was met with international expressions of concern and Paleostinian calls for outside intervention. A day later, seven people were rubbed out in Jerusalem’s Neve Yaakov neighborhood in the deadliest Paleostinian terror attack since 2008.

Ex-Member Of Opposition Killed In Syria’s Daraa
[NPASyria] On Wednesday, an ex-member in the Syrian opposition factions was killed by unidentified button men in the western countryside of Daraa, a governorate south Syria.

A local source told North Press that Khaled al-Taani was rubbed out by armed individuals riding a cycle of violence in the town of Sahem al-Golan in Daraa countryside.

Al-Taani had joined opposition factions after defecting from Syrian government forces a year after protests broke out in the governorate in 2011, the source added.

In July 2018, opposition factions and Syrian government forces reached an agreement, mediated by Russia, for the opposition-held areas of Daraa. According to the deal, opposition turbans who agreed to hand over heavy weapons, were handed special cards to protect them from prosecution, and allowed to stay in Daraa. Those opposed to the agreement were forced to leave for Idlib, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else

The victim had obtained a settlement card after government forces entered Daraa in 2018 and had not joined military forces affiliated with the Syrian army, according to the source.

Last week, Daraa and its countryside witnessed sporadic attacks by unknown button men leading to the death of four people in various areas of the Governorate.

Turkey carries out another deadly drone attack in Rojava despite quakes: Spox
[Rudaw] A Ottoman Turkish drone on Wednesday targeted a vehicle in the Kurdish city of Qamishli in northeast Syria (Rojava) while dealing with a catastrophic natural disaster at home, according to a spokesperson for Kurdish forces. A civilian was killed and a member of the local security forces was injured, reported a war monitor.

A destructive 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the Kurdish city of Kahramanmaras in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
on February 6, with its impact also ripping through neighboring Syria. Several other quakes and thousands of aftershocks have occurred since then, killing nearly 50,000 in both countries.

However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
the humanitarian crisis at home and in Syria has not prevented Turkey from attacking Syrian Kurds. Less than a week after the initial tremors, a Ottoman Turkish drone targeted a vehicle in Rojava’s Kobane city, killing many people.

Farhad Shami, head of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said in a tweet on Wednesday that "in a time when the world is busy helping those affected by earthquake[s] in Turkey & Syria, the Ottoman Turkish occupation is escalating against our region."

"Today, a Ottoman Turkish UAV targeted a car east of Qamishlo [Qamishli]. The criminal mentality of [the] Ottoman Turkish regime is more dangerous than the earthquake," he added.

The suspected Ottoman Turkish drone targeted a civilian vehicle, killing a civilian and wounding a commander of the Kurdish internal security forces (Asayish), according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

Ankara considers the People’s Protection Units (YPG), backbone of the SDF, as the Syrian offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) - gang struggling for the greater rights of Kurds in Turkey.

Ankara has listed both PKK and YPG as terrorist organizations.
