-Lurid Crime Tales-
After years of Trump's dire warnings, a ‘crisis' has hit the border but generates little urgency
[WAPO] In 2015, the year President Trump launched his White House bid with a promise to build a wall on the Mexico border, illegal migration to the United States plunged 31 percent, falling near its lowest level in 50 years.

Security experts saw a success, but Trump looked at the border and saw something ominous: "rapists," "criminals" and other predators lurking on the other side.

In 2017, Trump’s first year in office, he continued to insist on the urgent need for a border wall, even as illegal crossings dropped further.

With parts of the federal government shut down over what has morphed into the defining symbol of Trump’s presidency, administration officials are clamoring louder than ever. Only this time, they face a bona fide emergency on the border, and they’re struggling to make the case there’s truly a problem.

Record numbers of migrant families are streaming into the United States, overwhelming border agents and leaving holding cells dangerously overcrowded with children, many of whom are falling sick. Two Guatemalan children taken into U.S. custody died in December.

In a letter to lawmakers Friday, the White House and the Department of Homeland Security made a fresh appeal to amend immigration laws they denounce as "legal loopholes" and blame for creating a "border security and humanitarian crisis." But the chance of reaching consensus for such technical fixes to U.S. immigration statutes is growing more remote, buried by the pitched battle over a structure new House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) calls "immoral."

Europe
Racist or Islamist — lone-wolf attackers show similar patterns
[DW] There has been speculation as to what led a man to drive into a group of foreigners in Germany's Ruhr region. Criminologist Britta Bannenberg says murderous Moslems and those who run amok are similar, whatever their ideology.

A 50-year-old German man, Andreas N., deliberately drove his car into groups of foreign-looking people on New Year's Eve ‐ first in Bottrop and then in Essen ‐ before police could apprehend him. He injured eight people during the rampage. Currently, he is in police custody. Authorities assume his actions were racially motivated. Moreover, the welfare recipient and Essen resident is said to be mentally ill.

Deutsche Welle: Seemingly racially-motivated car attacks recently carried out by a 50-year-old German man in Bottrop and Essen have captured the attention of authorities and citizens alike. What might have driven the perpetrator to carry out his New Year's Eve attacks?

Is Germany Europe Capable of Protecting Its Jews?
From last April and long, but it holds up under the passage of time. The answer as things currently stand, in my opinion, is no — not just for Germany, but for all of Western Europe and Britain. And not just their Jews, because those with knives, bombs, and motor vehicles are not first checking to see if their male targets have — and their female targets have not — been circumcised. What they can and have been doing is guard Jewish synagogues, schools, and shops, but that only helps when they are there.
[The Atlantic] The nation’s recent intake of migrants from places where anti-Semitism is ubiquitous has produced a scary tension—and one that’s not easy to resolve.

#1  No support. The Turks did not support the U.S. going into Iraq, and have screwed us at every turn. They do not deserve anything from the U.S. other than a swift kick in the nuts.

And any support we give would allow them to divert resources toward their ethnic destruction of the Kurds.

Plus we are leaving, so screw them. The Turks want us out? Fine, it's your problem now Erdogan. Let your troops bleed and did against ISIS, the Kurds, and the Russian backed Assad Syrian Army. They all play as dirty as you do.

Home Front: Politix
Sanders and Biden: Too Old, Too White, Too Male
[NR] While assessing the 2016 Bernie Sanders campaign in its aftermath, Jeff Weaver, Sanders’s campaign manager, admitted that the operation was "too male" and "too white." Now, despite the success of the grass-roots revolt Sanders led against the Hillary Clinton juggernaut, both Weaver and Sanders are starting to realize that the continued health of their progressive insurgency is under threat for precisely those reasons.
A long-held progressive belief now breaking the surface and gaining acceptance.
As a front-page article in the New York Times this week illustrated, not even a left-wing icon such as Sanders is going to be given a pass for the culture of sexism that apparently pervaded his campaign. Sanders wasn’t accused of any personal misbehavior, but his reactions to the numerous incidences of sexual harassment, demeaning treatment of women, and gender-pay disparity in his campaign, as detailed by the Times, seemed very familiar to those who have been following the way large cultural institutions have dealt with #MeToo allegations.

As far as Sanders was concerned, poor "human resources" work was to blame. He offered the obligatory, unconvincing non-apology apology "to any woman who felt she was not treated appropriately" and promised to "do better the next time," but nevertheless claimed he should not be held responsible because he "was a little bit busy running around the country" while his campaign was devolving into a hotbed of malfeasance.

Sanders acted, in other words, as if the investigation of his last campaign were irrelevant to the question of whether he should run another one in 2020 ‐ a distraction from the Democrats’ singular focus on "resisting" President Donald Trump. But if he thinks this isn’t a serious obstacle to winning the nomination he came so close to securing in 2016 the next time around, he hasn’t been paying attention to what’s been going on in the country in the 15 months since the #MeToo movement began.

The same can be said for Joe Biden as he also ponders whether to enter the 2020 race. The increased focus on Biden’s role in the confirmation of Justice Clarence Thomas after charges of attempted sexual assault were made against Justice Brett Kavanaugh last fall should weigh on Democrats’ minds as they decide whether the former senator and vice president should be their party’s standard-bearer next year.

Record Numbers of Americans Want to Leave the U.S..... but still don't
[Gallup] WASHINGTON, D.C. -- While Donald Trump has spent much of his presidency focused on the number of people who want to get into the U.S., since he took office, record numbers of Americans have wanted to get out.

Though relatively average by global standards, the 16% of Americans overall who said in 2017 and again in 2018 that they would like to permanently move to another country -- if they could -- is higher than the average levels during either the George W. Bush (11%) or Barack Obama administration (10%).

While Gallup's World Poll does not ask people about their political leanings, most of the recent surge in Americans' desire to migrate has come among groups that typically lean Democratic and that have disapproved of Trump's job performance so far in his presidency: women, young Americans and people in lower-income groups.

During the first two years of the Trump administration, a record-high one in five U.S. women (20%) said they would like to move to another country permanently if they could. This is twice the average for women during the Obama (10%) or Bush years (11%) and almost twice the level among men (13%) under Trump. Before the Trump years, there was no difference between men's and women's desires to move.

#6  I have two clients from Argentina, married couple. During Obama's reign, we know that question was asked on our side, so I asked him if he ever considered moving back there.

"Raj, I don't care how fucking bad things ever got here, it will always be better than down in that shithole."

"What about Brazil?" He just laughed and gave me the 'what the fuck' stare, which is what I was looking for, and that made me start laughing too.

Follower Of Joseph Smith Urges Nation To Reject Morally Flawed Leaders
Satire, or is it ?
[Babylon Bee] SALT LAKE CITY, UT‐Mitt Romney, incoming senator for Utah and follower of Joseph Smith, lectured the nation in an op-ed Tuesday on the need to reject morally flawed leaders.

The man who has devoted his life to the teachings of a con artist encouraged the nation to examine its leaders to see whether they are worthy of our devotion and respect.

"A president should demonstrate the essential qualities of honesty and integrity, and elevate the national discourse with comity and mutual respect," wrote the man who follows Joseph Smith, a false prophet, notorious polygamist, and scam artist. He pointed out that the president hasn't shown himself to be honest or forthcoming in his dealings with opponents and other countries, while Joseph Smith's own prophecies failed to come true over and over again, and while the Mormon Church continues to deceive its members by covering up its past.

Romney took Trump to task for his immoral lifestyle, slamming him for being divisive, destructive, and sexist, though the first prophet of his church consolidated power throughout his life in order to marry more women and eventually deceive millions into believing a false gospel.

To close his opinion piece, Romney urged the president to live a morally upstanding lifestyle, "and maybe look for wisdom to lead the nation by staring at stones in a hat."

OOPS!! Democrat ADMITS Trump DOES have the power to build the wall – WITHOUT Congress!!
[Rightscoop] Well this is interesting ‐ while libs are freaking out that Trump said earlier today that he has the power to build the border wall without Congress, one Democrat admitted that yes, he can do that.

Seems POTUS has broad authority under the National Emergencies Act to undertake military construction projects if a national emergency is declared. So the question is not whether he is in possession of this power but rather whether it ought to be used this way.

‐ Brian Schatz (@brianschatz) January 4, 2019
I know this isn’t the main thing but this doesn’t sound "conservative" or like "small government." https://t.co/oaGFnkTTIk

‐ Brian Schatz (@brianschatz) January 4, 2019

This is what Trump is best at ‐ figuring out how to ignore traditions and assumptions that keep others from pushing their political imprint. He does it all the time. What’s odd about this one is that he seemed like he got the idea from the reporter who asked him!! But, some might argue, that spending $5 billion might be beyond the scope of what emergency powers were intended. I’m sure they’ll say that. And he won’t care.

Either way, libs are freaking the eff out at the very thought of it:

Probably it is better to get a Congressional agreement to show the agreement is non-partisan and that they can play nice together and maybe in the future as well. His unilateral action under the NEA would end up in SCOTUS which is still somewhat a gamble.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Caroline Glick: The Next Stop On My Zionist Journey
I normally try to avoid Israeli politics, except inasmuch as it impacts their actions in the War on Terror. But as a commenter Caroline Glick generally sees deeper into the stone than most, as she does in the first six paragraphs below. The remaining paragraphs exerpted from her much longer piece explain why she won’t be writing as much in the near future. I wish her well — the Knesset could use her perspicacity and willingness to speak bluntly.
[Jpost] The job of a commentator is to interpret reality. The media’s habit of simplifying issues by treating everything as an either-or proposition is disastrous for formulating policy. Israel’s options are rarely binary. On almost all issues, Israel has a full spectrum of options. Yet, due to media pressure, our leaders often miss them.

To advance its interests in the international arena, for instance, Israel doesn’t need to bow before foreign powers. It needs to show foreign powers that they want what Israel has to offer and that it is in their interest to work with Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is the only prime minister Israel has had that fully understands and implements this basic truth.
This may explain why the voters keep returning him and his party to office, despite the loathing he is held in by Israel’s elites and news media.
The same is the case with the Paleostinians. Israel has nothing to fear in its dealing with the Paleostinians. The choice we were presented with for more than a generation ‐ either peace with a Paleostinian state or war without one ‐ was a false and destructive conceit. It was based on a wide array of lies and delusions. I devoted hundreds of columns and my book, The Israeli Solution, to expose them.
